Today...
I was definitely feverish last night. I don't need a thermometer to tell me that. Hot, cold, toss, turn, asleep, awake...last night was a thin slice of hell. Fortunately, the fever seems to have broken by this morning so I was able to get some real sleep today. Of course, I'm sure the NyQuil I bought didn't hurt any. ;) What kind of hat is it to go for so much money? Is it rare or autographed or something?

School shooting in CT on 14-12-2012
Nyoshut, I have no problem with someone owning guns (although, why anyone would need or even want more than one is beyond me) or teaching their children how to handle or shoot them. Education removes the mystery and lessens the chance of accidents. It's how she handled the rest of his life that became the problem. The issue here isn't gun control or even survival nuts who think society is going to collapse any minute (seriously, who keeps enough food to last longer than between paychecks? who can afford to?), the issue is this guy's mental state and how it was (mis)handled by his mother. When things like this happen, it's very easy to point a finger and say that "it's because we don't have enough gun control laws" or "it's because he played violent video games", but the simple truth is he had mental issues that were not properly treated by his parents and this was the end result. But that's not what people want to hear, because that means it's somebody's fault, and if it's somebody's fault then it could have been prevented, and people just can't accept the fact that something like this could have been prevented but wasn't so they look for something else to blame. People don't want to point to a person, they want to point to some big, bad intangible boogieman so that it's not anyone's fault but society's for not taking care of them. It's like the Columbine shootings all over again, that was everyone's fault (gun laws, music, video games, etc..) but the parents. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to downplay how horrible and tragic this was. What I'm saying is that trying to legislate everything that might possibly have some remote kind of bad influence on children is not the way to prevent it. After all, the government is not there to swaddle you in cotton from cradle to grave. What we need to do is create more awareness and acceptance for people with mental and emotional issues (hell, it's more acceptable to be a drug addict than have mental issues, and guess which one you have a choice over?), have more support systems in place for teenagers and their parents who have these issues, and try to head things like this off before the idea to shoot up a school pops into their heads.

School shooting in CT on 14-12-2012
From today's Daily Mail online: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2249185/Nancy-Lanza-Did-paranoid-gun-crazed-mother-trigger-Sandy-Hook-Connecticut-killing-spree.html?ICO=most_read_module Apparently, this guy's mother wasn't a teacher at the school like originally reported. She was a paranoid survivalist who stockpiled food and supplies and had taught her son how to shoot (this answers the question as to where he got all the guns from, they were already in his house). She also kept him isolated from everyone she could, homeschooling him for his last years of high school and not letting people in the house. Apparently, he shot her in the head several times, possibly while she slept, before going on his rampage at the school. He also had "hundreds" of rounds left when he killed himself, so this whole thing could have been much, much worse.

Today...
Oh good, I'm not the only one feeling sick today. I've got this woozy, dizzy kind of feeling in my head I generally only get when I have a fever, and I keep getting flashes of feeling hot and cold. I can't for the life of me find my thermometer, nor can I remember if I've used it since my ex-girlfriend came and took all her stuff. I guess there's nothing to do but wait it out for tonight and go to the pharmacy in the morning to buy a new one.

No. The only way to lift this restriction is to purchase membership. After that, there are no restrictions even if the membership lapses. If I remember correctly, this was implemented shortly after the Nuke.

So because the total amount of F2P players is going down, RuneScape's life is gonna end? Ok. No, not necessarily. I was simply reflecting on the fact that there seem to be about 1/5 as many people in free worlds as member worlds, when it used to be the other way around. That, and the total number of players in general is much lower than it used to be. Honestly, I hope it's simply because the trial is working and people are getting membership much sooner. I have no desire for night to fall over the land of Gelienor. I'm wondering that as well. World 1 has long been a major trading point for F2P'ers, going all the way back to pre-G.E. times. Everything seems to have moved to w3 now, but why didn't they make w3 P2P instead?

11-Dec-2012 - Player-Owned Ports
I've been reading this whole thing from the beginning, and it's good to see how much everyone is enjoying this update and how little criticism there is. If this is the kind of update that Solomon and the SoF have been paying for, then perhaps they're not so bad after all. :)

Trial members have the trade restrictions, but they are removed once you purchase membership. I had no idea the F2P population had declined so badly. I mean, I knew a lot of people in game were bots before the Nuke (and, in fairness, a lot of P2P were bots as well) and the number of "people" online had dropped precipitously after the Nuke but I had no idea it had gotten so bad. In that case, changing some of the servers to P2P makes a lot more sense. Perhaps it's not that Jagex is trying to kill off F2P as people are suggesting, perhaps, as sad as it is to consider, we're simply starting to reach the inevitable conclusion of RuneScape's lifespan. :(

Things that annoy the HELL out of you.
In that particular case, it would be the person's choice to remain ignorant that annoyed me.

Isn't carrying a concealed weapon illegal, with the exception of law enforcement officials, in public buildings like schools anyway?

What book are you currently reading?
That's because nonfiction tends to be fairly dull and tedious. Real life doesn't have near enough dragon attacks or zombie plagues.

His mother's classroom was one of the first hit? And he killed his father as well? That guy had some serious family issues. This kind of thing is why I try to talk with my children as much as possible and try to teach them constructive ways of dealing with their emotions. I have no illusions that I always succeed, but hopefully it will make them more likely to talk with me as they get older, and less likely to express pain and frustration in ways like this. Gun control really doesn't stop things like this from happening, btw. We have crazy gun laws here in Canada, and even we get nutjobs shooting up schools every so often. Why people think killing children will make things better is beyond me though.
