Today...
I finally figured out a workaround for the software upgrades we've been doing that have been deleting the IP information from the units and then not letting us back in again to correct it. And it only took 4 hours of searching through every command in every .xml file in the upgrade loader. :wall: I don't see why the manufacturer couldn't have figured this out and released a service notice. After all, it only required modifying three lines. Knowing which three lines and which file to look in would have made the whole thing so much easier on everyone. Figuring this out is going to make the whole project run a lot smoother now, but this really shouldn't have been necessary. I'm a pump mechanic dammit, not a software developer. <_<

Runescape F2p - Mining & Alching Efficiency
Why wouldn't people be able to high alch while mining, especially iron? They're one-tick actions. You do one and then the other. Seems perfectly legal to me.

I really need your help!!
To be honest it sounds like you were hacked. First, you should change your password and bank PIN and activate JAG (I'm assuming you haven't). Then run a check on your computer for keyloggers and the like.

What a *bleep* of a day.
Today was very frustrating, and I need to vent a bit. I initially went to post this in "Today..." in the Off Topic section, but it came out kind of long so here it is as a blog post you lucky readers. :) I spent the day holding another tech's hand (not literally of course :P) and trying to show him how to upgrade the software in the new payment hardware we've been installing for the last few months, but some of the first sites were installed incorrectly due to a mistake in the instructions from the manufacturer. Guess where we were at today? One of those first sites, you say? Excellent! You're not only good looking, but you're smart too. ;) For the technically minded of you, the system uses a conversion module to simulate network communication over a 2-wire run and the module has both a standard CAT5 connection and a 24VDC RS-232 connection. The instructions say to connect both to the main board, so that's what we did...only to find out a month later that just the CAT5 was supposed to be hooked up, but it was too late. :ohnoes: The engineer in charge of the upgrade assured us that the worst it would do is cause intermittent communication issues, but it appears to have done worse that that. We can load the main part of the upgrade (the OS, if you will), which has its own boot loader, but can't load the new firmware (drivers) or reenter the IP information (which gets deleted during the process), both of which use the onboard boot loader. So what happens is that instead of updating, the system just keeps rebooting over and over again without loading any of the new information. Fortunately, it still reboots and works properly if we're not connected to it. Thank God for small miracles. I also figured out a way to test if it will take the upgrades or not pretty quickly during the first one (I only ended up with two units completely offline because I couldn't put the IP information back in afterwards). It's a bit time consuming, but it leaves the units online while we wait for replacement CPU boards. Since the only way I've found to correct this problem is to replace the CPU board, I think the improper communications hookup has corrupted the file structure on them. I've brought this up to the engineer (who I'm sure is getting tired of hearing from me on this issue by now ) several times but he keeps brushing me off saying that it's impossible. Personally, I think he just doesn't want to share the program for reimaging the boards so people think he's skilled and important when he gets the defective ones back and makes them work again. <_< Of course, this is the same engineer who had apparently never seen these units in operation in the field until a couple of months ago when I had him on a site to help correct another hardware issue (what is it with these people and hardware issues?) and I ended up showing him several things about them that he had never seen. Things that I run into on every new installation. Things that I had to figure out how to correct on my own because they're not addressed in the documentation. Anywhere. Things that I've actually gotten calls from other companies about because they're having the same problems. I don't know why they're calling me and not the engineer...wait, scratch that. I know EXACTLY why they're calling me and not the engineer. :P At any rate, after 8 hours onsite today we only got one of the units to take the upgrade. One. Out of six. On another unit we had to replace the CPU board (the last one we had in stock) after it looked like it was going to take the upgrade just fine and then decided to roll over and die on us when it came to reentering the IP info. :wall: So now I have to call the engineer tomorrow and explain (again) why the upgrade didn't work (again), why it took so long (again), why they need to send us new CPU boards (again), then go back to the site (again) and upgrade it (again). Can you tell I've had to do this a few times? I'm glad my boss trusts me enough to oversee this upgrade program in our area (believe it or not, he's pretty much left me to my own devices on this one), but if I don't start getting better support from the freaking people who designed and built the damn things, I might just say to hell with it. I think I'm going to go back to school and become an engineer. It seems like it's a lot less work and has fewer headaches than what I do sometimes.

Hi
Welcome back! :) The lunatics aren't too bad, they're actually kind of enjoyable sometimes. Just be careful not to feed D.V. after midnight and you'll be fine. :P

Today...
Yeah, getting stitches sucks. My son went into mild shock from the pain of the needle when he had his. And that was after he'd already gone into shock once that day from the pain of the initial injury. Let that be a lesson to everyone: 11 year old boys and stories of Evel Knievel don't mix.

Im back. :)
Welcome back, Doc. :) (Everyone always comes back. It's like a drug. ) D.V., I can understand your skepticism but the fresh forum account is understandable since he's been gone so long. After all, many of the current active users had to create new accounts after Tip.It was hacked last year and everyone's passwords were reset.

What should I be doing in Runescape?
Kimberly is right about GOP water tallys being one of the best F2P moneymakers (aside from mining/smithing Rune, neither of which you can do right now). Aside from that, your best option is flipping items on the G.E. which, if you have some cash to spare, can bring in quite a bit while you do other things.

Today...
I'm actually kind of glad that my work hasn't bought me a new laptop with Win7 yet. Everyone else has been upgraded, mostly due to hardware failures (surprisingly laptops don't last forever when you drive around with it in a truck all day :P), and our job reporting program doesn't work properly in anything newer than XP. A program written in Office 2003 that was never really updated. Who could have guessed?

Future Update Discussions
That would be kind of cool. Creating musical instruments (which could be cross skilled with Crafting and Fletching for instrument strings), playing to replenish your run energy whenever you want, and learning more complicated songs to boost your skills or the skills of those around you.

Flourishing - Garden Variety Blog ~ 82/99 Farming. 1080 Total.
Skilling accounts are always fun to read about. Good luck with your goals. 99 Farming won't be easy. If you don't want to miss level up pics when you're not using SwiftKit, I recommend Gadwin Printscreen. It's free and every time you press 'print screen' it saves the screenshot to a folder you can specify. I use it all the time.

Disney's Purchase of LucasFilm
I like a bit of comic relief, and when done properly it can really make the whole thing seem that much better. Of course when it's done wrong, it turns the whole thing into a steaming pile of what the hell? C-3P0 and R2-D2 were a good enough comedy relief for me, and they're good enough for my kids dammit! :P

Kaida23's Adventures of a Big Damn (F2P) Hero!
Since I was home sick again yesterday, I did some more DG. And shortly before I leveled up, I read this month's BTS and found out that they're going to increase the xp rates for solo'ers...after I had spent two days training...solo. Gf me. :wall: Oh well. Since I was close to leveling up anyway I decided to finish, and got a couple of other levels along the way. [hide=58 Attack] [/hide] [hide=58 Defense] [/hide] [hide=64 Dungeoneering] [/hide] I think I'm going to wait until they release the xp update to do more. Especially if it's going to double for solo like they say it will. Since DG wasn't an option I headed to the G.E., bought a bunch of gold bars, did some Crafting in Al Kharid and got the last two levels I was aiming for. [hide=69 Crafting] [/hide] [hide=70 Crafting] [/hide] Now the only non-combat skill I have below 70 is Dungeoneering. I'm not too sure what I'm going to train now. I want to get back to superheating, but don't want to burn myself out focusing on it like I did Mining. Fortunately, I'm not limited to trying to hit a specific total level this time. I could always go train wc or fm, I haven't really done either of those in a while. Or maybe I'll train Ranged for a bit and raise it from "noob" to "meh".

Manga/Anime Discussion
Actually, there's both an ongoing manga series and a light novel. Not only that, but there's been a second ongoing manga series that was first released while the anime series was still being aired. Thanks for the name of the song, Wolfyboy.

Hello:)
Welcome to TIF! :) There are anime and LoL discussion threads in the off topic section (under the "movies and television" and "video games" subsections respectively). I take no responsibility for lost sanity if you become stuck there though. :P
