  1. That does seem to be the kind of thing they were going for. The idea of a giant dragon god in the sky coming down to smite sinners makes me happy inside. :D
  2. So it sounds more ominious that it really is. Good to know. Thanks. :)
  3. Is anyone else concerned about the "unrestricted access" portion of that? Why would it need complete access to my entire computer?
  4. But then where will I get free Prayer xp? :P
  5. It's not the first time they've messed up trying to update female faces. Remember how they changed Xenia's chat head from an older woman to what looks like a guy in a wig? :?
  6. That's one of my concerns as well. They stated in the video that the new system dectects the botting software, so hopefully people using mousekeys/AHK or are extremely efficient won't trigger false positives.
  7. The S.S. Botany Bay was the ship that Khan and his crew used to escape from an Australian penal colony in the orginal Star Trek series. It kind of looked like that and that's what Futurama was spoofing. btw - Botany Bay was also the planned site of an actual penal colony in Australia back in the late 1700's.
  8. I actually like the idea of this. I have no problem with them adding a bit of mirth as long as the detection system works and continues to work for more than a couple of weeks. That said, why are they giving so many warnings? If, as the video claims, they're detecting the actual software and not merely suspicious, repetitive clicking (let's face it, a lot of players can be extremely efficient when they want to) then one warning, at most, should be more than enough. And, imo, even that is too much. If the system is that good, it should be one and done.
  9. I live in Ontario, and that doesn't happen here as often as you'd think. I remember how there was a big fight over it, with similar arguements about the corruption of our children, and a lot of women did it when the law was first changed (in the late fall btw, I guess they didn't think anyone would do it then), but I can honestly say I haven't seen a single woman do it since. Once again proving that just becuase people are allowed to do something doesn't mean they're going to. Which brings me back to the topic at hand. People did the same thing for a few days when they released the last big clothing/graphic update (I think it was a couple of years ago), and then the novelty wore off and I haven't seen it since. This is simply brewing the proverbial tempest in a teapot (which would be an awesome magical item). Give it a few days and it will go away again.
  10. Three things come to mind about this: A) Will they be available to free players as well as members? Most likely they are, as they're in the common spot but it never hurts to ask. 2) Will they still be available after this weekend is over? As an uncommon or rare prize, perhaps. I'm wondering if I should try to make a fully charged amulet. and D)... I don't really have a third point, I just wanted to make an obscure Home Alone reference. :P
  11. Or just put them back, they looked better before. The Lego/G.I. Joe kung-fu-grip hands are bad enough, but the eyes...The Eyes...THEY HAUNT ME! :? btw - love that outfit, Blyaunte. <3:
  12. That's true, but the cost per unit produced would be very low. USB flash drives can be purchased from a retail store for a little over $1 per GB, so just imagine how low the wholesale cost would be. Espeically when bought in the quantities Jagex would need. Personally, I wouldn't have a problem with a one-time cost of $10-$15 for one (and even voted that way when it first came up years ago) to ensure my account was secure.
  13. I paint, and sometimes convert, Warhammer 40,000 models. I find it surprisingly relaxing. I just wish I had more time and more money to do it (some of them can be rather expensive).
  14. Technology in general, yes. Security dongles were in use (I don't know if they still are) nearly 20 years ago to allow employees to access secure networks. My mom was a computer securities expert for the military and I still remember the one she had (and how super parinoid she was about it, as my brother found out one day ). It's about time someone figured out a way to utilize the increasing ubiquitousness of smartphones to generate a completely electronic version. Even if people don't have a smartphone, a physical device could be offered, say a USB flash drive, that will only allow people to log into the account when it's plugged in. I have a client whose control systems use a similar device to prevent unauthorized use of the software, and if it's not plugged in the program simply won't run. There are so many options that it's kind of mind boggling that they haven't figured out a way to secure our accounts short of e-mail verification.
  15. I didn't realize there was a separate list of players by nationality. It's kind of cool that so many of us are from Canada ( |^_^|), Finland and the Netherlands.
  16. I've always played female avatars (for the record, I am a guy ;) ) and can't say I've experienced any problems with it except the bf/gf issues years ago and some good natured ribbing from my friends. No one seems to care if I'm a guy or not. In the end it doesn't really matter. We're all there to do the same thing: enjoy the game.
  17. Honestly if moderators gave a [bleep] about the game. why don't they get rid of the stupid add bots? you cant ell me that they don't see them. i have never seen a mod hanging round those bots for a minute or two banning them. I actually have, and on two separate occasions seen P-Mods come in and mute all of the ad bots in the G.E., and within minutes new bots had logged in and it was as if nothing had happened. The spammers and gold farmers don't care if their bots get muted, banned or nuked from orbit, they'll just make new ones. It is actually impossible to stop bots by having J-Mods to simply go around banning every bot they see, they may as well be trying to drain the ocean with a bucket.
  18. I have to say this looks like one of the better months this year. Quests, items, area reworks, bot punishment...there's something for everyone, member and free player alike, with nary a mention of the Squeel or Solomon.
  19. Wait. What, exactly, does a squid have to do with September? Seriously, my birthday is coming up and if there's supposed to be squid related celebrating I need to start planning. :P Don't get me wrong, I'm glad there's real content coming this month but surely there's any number of fall-themed items they could have come up with to celebrate the month with.
  20. So today I was working at a site, cursing up and down at a software update that wouldn't (and ultimately didn't <_<) go through when an orange Lamorghini, I think it was a Gallardo, came roaring in. No, it wasn't going fast. Lambos just kind of roar no matter what speed they're going. It's not a common site in Ottawa, so I was walking over to take a closer look when this happened. Possibly one of the most awesome things I've ever seen, and proof positive that absolutely everybody needs to buy gas once in a while. He was very cool and posed by the car for about 10 minutes while everyone took picutres. I kind of messed up on the lighting and this was the only one that came out. Sometimes when you're having a bad day and everythings seems to be going wrong, the universe sends you Batman in an orange Lambo to make the day seem a little brighter.
  21. Congrats again, S 81. Glad I could be there to celebrate with you. :D
  22. Yep. That's why I don't want it moved. ;)
  23. I have to agree, the update looks great. I can't wait for it to go live in-game. I just hope they don't move the furnace further away from the bank.
  24. I was always disappointed that they never implemented the security dongles. I remember my mother having one nearly 20 years ago to access the secure systems at her work when she was at home and always thought it was a good idea. I think you make an excellent suggestion for securing our accounts. Given how prevelant smartphones are, I'm sure it would be fairly easy to develop an app that does nothing but generate a seemingly random code every 1-5 minutes. Something similar may even exist already.
