  1. Myweponsg00d, thank you for so eloquently reminding me why I prefer not to leave my private messaging set to public. You may like random strangers to accost you in the street, I do not, nor do I like them doing so in video games. That's my decision, my choice and, actually, none of your business.
  2. From release of it up till now, probably ~1 hour? I'll put it in spoiler :- [spoiler=Martin Reward]Option to have all allotment patches weeded. It also looks like we have another monster-area to fight after the end of this. :) [spoiler=Martin Reward comment]It would be worth doing the quest just for this if it means that tiresome weeds don't pop up between harvesting and replanting.
  3. OH. MY.GOD! This is the happiest day of my life. Ahhhh.... at last. That was sooooo irritating.
  4. Constitution - 36.7m, mostly from training slayer.
  5. Perhaps because the person responsible for developing it could be bothered to take the time out to let you know what he was doing?
  6. Thieving first (Summer 07) and ranging last. (Summer 09). I kept my skills fairly even so once they all got into the mid 90s I got the 99s pretty quickly.
  7. 4: The Pages I think it would be helpful to add that you can buy an ammo mould from Nulodian while your at Ice Mountain. 5: Golden Cannonball If a player has access to the carts going to the GE and using the furnace at Edge might be easier than the suggested furnaces. Also, the ferryman doesn't charge 2gp any more - not sure how I can prove this though. :)
  8. First article: I turn my chat to friends when I'm at the GE - sorted. Second article: Life is too short for me to get stressed about such minor matters.
  9. Interesting thought, what if the requirement had been a Soul Wars cape? ;) (Either way though, the mini game precedent was set with mithril dragons and Barb Training, also something conveniently forgotten by many of the people complaining.)
  10. The thing is though that this is not the case. Just having the levels alone has not, for a long time (if ever), given us the right to do everything that level allows, quests and mini games have opened up new content. For example, try fishing for monks without Swan Song, or catching a leaping salmon without Barbarian Training, the appropriate fishing level alone does not allow you to do either. As for you particular problems, Nomad will get easier in that he will become more familiar, strategies will be refined and agreed best techniques will, over time, be established. For Jad, you may find when you have more levels you can do what I did and nuke him, (turmoil, overload, veng & d claw specs), the fight was over in seconds - I didn't have time to click anything other than my special bar before he was dead.
  11. I pretty much agree with the article. On my way to maxing my skills (I maxed last June) I focused pretty much on skills and nothing else, I only did mini games that could help me with my skills. I did have all the quests done and the achievement diaries too but mini games... well, there are still some I've never tried and I probably won't until something forces me to do so. This slayer update forced me to go and get a fire cape, that last quest forced me to do some Mage Training, the Ardy Diary finally got me into CW. I wouldn't have bothered with any of them otherwise. I generally see mini games as a waste of my time, to have a good reason to at least try them is no bad thing. (I don't spend all my time getting xp but if I'm going to waste time in game I prefer to just mess about with friends rather than do mini games.) I don't, and never have, thought that having skill levels gave me a divine right to do everything those levels allowed. Slayer has always needed a fair bit of questing and Barb training, Barb training itself gives access to fishing methods not otherwise available etc., this extra requirement is absolutely nothing new despite what many people seem to think.
  12. The main thing that bugged me about the complaints was the assertion that having a slayer level gives you the "right" to be given an assignment. That's arrant nonsense, you can barely do anything in slayer without completing quests and mithril dragons require the completion of Barbarian Training. The idea of a requirement other than a slayer level to be given an assignment is absolutely not new and people need to be disabused of that notion. Just because, in this instance, they had problems with the requirement doesn't mean that they should conveniently overlook all the other non slayer requirements needed to slay. (I didn't have the cape when the update was released; it never occurred to me to complain about the requirement I just went and got the cape. Since I'd failed at prayer switching the last time I tried, admittedly a couple of years ago, I decided to nuke him... the fight was over in seconds, two decent claw specs and one veng when he hit me for 70 something and fight over... no time for the healers to appear, no time for me to switch prayers, change to my whip or even heal myself it was that fast. I didn't need any skill in the fight, just to be well prepared and lucky. Even someone with dodgy reflexes could manage to do what I did.)
  13. I only usually encounter any contention doing slayer these days and I will always hop if another person's presence is going to slow me down, I'll hop even if I was there first. I don't mind other people being there if they don't interfere with my kills but all it takes is one "another player is attacking that" message and I'm out of there. If I'm at a spot that can support only one player I usually ask a newcomer if they're planning to stay, if they say yes then I hop - I don't have time to wait for spawns or fight for kills.
  14. First article: Things like a Saradomin kiteshield... I always thought of them as the uniform of the various gods' armies rather than anything the gods themselves had created or worn/used. Second article: I don't find the new generation of beggars any more tiresome than the old. I almost always have something lent out to one or other of my friends (usually my rarely used gs) so I can't often lend stuff to random strangers. Sometimes I'm able to lend something to a stranger who asks nicely; pushy or rude people always get a no and I never accept a payment for the loan. I don't worry about what people think when they see someone running about with my gs, as far as I'm concerned it's a tool not a status symbol and, I have no concern about them not having earned the millions they'd need to buy one for themselves. It's better that it's out there in the rs world helping someone out rather than gathering dust in my bank.
  15. Regarding the second article... it doesn't have to be about addiction - there is a thing called the "lipstick effect". People buy themselves small treats to make themselves feel better when they can't afford other stuff that they want. Perhaps RS membership is one of those small treats.
  16. I prefer the idea of total levels to xp as this implies that the account is well rounded, it's easier to get 200m cooking than it is to get that 200m spread evenly around all the skills. Having said that, I wouldn't want to play on a world with such restrictions; I wouldn't have met most of my friends if I'd played on a high level world.
  17. Making shapes is just UK slang for dancing, I don't think there's anything strange about putting those words in Party Pete's mouth.
  18. Well, there were courts in Medieval Europe so the concept of a court and a trial shouldn't be a problem for anyone who thinks RS exists in that bit of spacetime. Those Medieval courts tried pigs and cows etc. so a penguin trial shouldn't be pushing too much either... I bet they would have tried penguins if they could find one. ;) Personally, I still owe that level6 mugger for killing me on my first day in RS - I'm going to throw the book at him.
  19. My house was very practical until I'd finished with leveling because I'm almost always on lunar and I'm always using the portals - the load time of a larger house was a problem. But, now I'm not in a such a hurry I have lots of nice things in a much bigger house and, just a few weeks after I redid the house the menagerie update came out and my house loads fast again. :)
  20. Nope. I now have two dragons and I can only have one out of the pet house.
  21. Oh I like the menagerie, I just tele'd to my house and there was my little black dragon near the portal to welcome me home. A blue dragon is already incubating but I'm not trusting the pet house with my abby demon until they've done the fixes that are obviously needed.
  22. From my OED: s[racist term] v. 1706 [Echoic.] i. intr. to laugh in a half suppressed, light or covert manner; to snicker. 2. trans. To utter with a s[racist term] 1857. The first recorded use of the word was 1706, and where I grew up in the north of England it was common enough in everyday speech; I have noticed that rs filters it... it's a word in my vocabulary and I use it, or I would if the filter would let me.
  23. 1,000 abbys? No thanks. They're far too busy to train efficiently unless I can get on at a quiet time of day. I think I'd get bored... after 199 dark beasts I'm beginning to nod off.
  24. I always hop for an empty world. Before I could afford to use one I didn't like cannons being used in an area where I was already training and I don't want people to feel about me the way I felt about the selfish [bleeps] who just plonked their cannon in an already busy space.
