This is the most valuable comment in this thread. Do you mind if I quote you in my siggy?

Racism and propaganda? I smoke about once a week and the only way it's affected me negatively is my constant lack of money. You could even say marijuana has motivated me to work harder to make more money, haha. At no point have I ever had any urge to try harder drugs, or kill someone. Saying it affects your judgement is completely ridiculous. Since I started smoking, I've made so many new friends (because a friend with weed is a friend indeed ;)). Among my stoner friends are the most understanding, trustworthy people I've ever met. I have huge appreciation for everything; art, music, nature, everything. I would be high as often as you are, TheDarkSide, if I had the money. Hell yeah. Keep trying :P Once you get a job it gets pretty easy... I was going to last week but I ended up smoking, so now I'm just drinking a [cabbage] ton of water. Maybe this week. "It doesn't interfere with my life, it's just an obstacle when I try to get a job." Your weed friends will leave you if you stop smoking. That's not a friend, that's a moocher, and they are just as emotionally tied to the drug as you are.
  3. I would say it's more societal values. The poorer kids value fighting and smoking more than grades, and therefore try to prove themselves successful in those areas. I was about to make a sarcastic comment about philosopher kings, and then I read your edit. LMFAO. As do the good ones, and the hard workers, and the ones who were born into wealth.

It sure is. Some people live, some don't. If all beings have a natural instinct for self-preservation and preservation of the species, as I believe you have stated in the past, then wouldn't killing a fetus be contrary to those instincts? Then, logically, you are fighting your instincts, and have a chemical imbalance in the brain. If you have a chemical imbalance in the brain, then you are not capable of making your own decisions, and therfore your choices need to be regulated by the government. This is the logical reasoning you used to support your anti-suicide views in another thread, if I remember correctly. Why does it not apply here? People like you annoy me to no end. We were all happily making our sweeping anti-pro-life generalizations and restating each other's points until you decided you would disrupt our debate with a real argument. And this brings us back to my first post, which said that this topic is really a matter of opinion, not of logic. In the end, what it comes down to is whether or not you believe a fetus has a right to life.
  5. And your chicks for free The thing is, you may find that in order to truly enjoy life you have to conform to society's idea of success.

I'm pro-choice. It's the environment that makes the person, and the actions that define him or her. There isn't really much more to be said here, as the question depends almost entirely on opinions and beliefs, and less on facts.

I can't remember where I first heard that marijuana increases the risk of hallucinations, but here's one study: http://in.reuters.com/article/idINTRE6203DM20100301 It's not entirely conclusive, but there's decent evidence. Also, this: http://www.nida.nih.gov/researchreports/marijuana/marijuana3.html I didn't read the whole thing, but if you look over the first few paragraphs you'll notice info on memory loss and harm to other mental functions.

I dont mean to be biased, sorry for that. I have done a lot of research and not once have I read that smoking at a young age increases the chance of hallucinations, where did you read that? Ive been smoking for 12 years and during that time I've gotten a degree in digital media, kept the same girlfriend (Soon to be fiancé), and I now make 75,000$ a year editing videos for a newspaper's website. I've not once tried "stronger" drugs, and yes, it does take me larger amounts to get high, but the difference from when I began smoking and now is not very much. I would like to point out that when I say 'Live high" I really mean it. Wake and bake, smoke throughout the day (Yes, on my lunch hour, I use Visine, body spray and mints, and no-one has noticed, plus it hasn't negatively affected my work.) so saying you aren't actually happy is wrong, because when I am high, I am happy, and I am always high. I understand that this is not always the case, but the same can be said for your disadvantages. You might be the exception to the rule, but if you're always high, how do you know what it would be like to be sober? I will admit that the health risks of marijuana are about as bad as those of alcohol. But nobody tries to stay drunk constantly.

Lol. I hope this doesn't get locked. I'm guessing you're a stoner. Your information is moslty incorrect or biased towards the benefits. -You are not more attentive to detail when high, you just think you are. You are actually concentrating less. -Smoking marijuana at a young age increases the chance of dangerous hallucinations when older. -Lack of motivation will result in failure of both your social life and your career. -You aren't actually happier. Stoners are prone to extreme moods, usually a result of mental addiction. This means when you aren't high, you will be randomly mean to people, and occasionally experience mild depression. You may say you plan on staying high, but that's impossible. You will build up a resistance, eventually needing massive amounts or stronger drugs, which have more serious health issues.

A guy who wanted to tell a badass story? If you've been wandering in the desert for many years, what's a better way to imagine your ancestors? A small group who quietly crossed a river to freedom, or a group that was chased by hundreds of soldiers while said river split to allow them across? Then it wasn't true? Okay, please, I just want the Bible to be taken as a exaggerated tale of history, not literal history. It is an exaggerated tale of history. The stories were passed from mouth to mouth, translated, rewritten, and interpreted over thousands of years. And in addition, anyone who takes it literally would have to believe some pretty crazy things, including that anyone who is human should be drawn, quartered, and dragged around town behind a horse. Which leads to a question for Saru: How can you take the Bible literally, but be homosexual?
  11. Uh, no. Beating up and eating a cute little bird seems wrong, but to the dog it's pretty enjoyable thus he is happy. The owner arrives home from work, I know MY dog doesn't think for a walk or food or anything else because we don't give it to him once we arrive, but he likes our presence. Our presence isn't right or wrong its just something he likes and thus is happy. We hit him with a broom because he peed inside the garage, it wasn't a morally wrong thing to do but he's taught not to do it so he's scared when we come out because we'll be upset and probably hit him. Animals don't have morals. But saying they don't have emotions is the stupidest thing I've heard. Thinking emotions = human intelligence which leads you to say animals don't emotions is stupid as well. Well, maybe its just not morally wrong for the dog to kill the bird, animals probably just have a different level of empathy. Its not going to attack you because you give it food, and that makes the dog realize that that would be a wrong thing to do, so it becomes a moral. And if I got hit every time I did something, I'd probably soon realize its not a good idea as well. That's not a moral. A moral is, "Wow, that was a mean thing to do. I won't do it again." What the dog developed was fear. "Wow, I peed in the garage and that guy beat the hell out of me with a stick. Better not do that again." I wasn't talking about the dog peeing in fear; what about those animals that help their weak and feed their sick that somebody said a few pages back. What would that be? Preservation of the species. They instinctually feel the need to preserve their companions. There are also many who do not feel this need, or who intstinctually feel the opposite.
  12. Morality has no basis in socioeconomics. Behavioral conduct has existed for far longer than currency has. Fix'd. I didn't mean to say anything about money.
  13. Sorry, I didn't read all of the posts in the thread. Morality is an invention of the weak to rule the strong. As mentioned, it is a human construct, and does not really exist. Many animals have a natural instinct for the preservation of their species, but this is different. Morality is extremely subjective, so it's hard to provide a clear answer. So I would answer "No", but the truth is more complicated than that.
  14. I love animals. I love eating animals. I do not have a problem with vegetarians. I do not have a problem with vegetarians talking to me about vegetarianism. Picky eating can be annoying though.
  15. I'm still in High School. When I need money I usually just extort it or sell drugs. I once organized a scam email company, but I stopped because I think it might be illegal.
  16. Maybe if she payed for the meal  Just kidding. Seriously, I fail to see what it is that made her so popular among the meme-spewing crowd. Maybe they just haven't seen a female in a while?
  17. To answer your question, yes, I think about the future. There is quite a bit to address in your post. First, you say "poor people aren't going anywhere" and then somehow convert that to "black people aren't going anywhere". The problem here is obvious, and by the way, all five of the kids I met when I did court-ordered community service were white. Second, your views on poverty seem a bit ignorant. It is a proven fact that the financial status of a child's parents during the first twenty years of his life determines his financial status for the rest of his life. This is because living in an area with good schools costs more, and poor people can't afford college. Furthermore, they are living in an environment that encourages swearing, smoking, and laziness. All people deserve an equal opportunity in life, and forcing them to attend High School until age 17 or 18 is the least a government can do. Just because it detracts from your experience as an upper-class, motivated individual doesn't mean the world should hide its blemishes from you. As a footnote, I'd just like to say that these people are exactly the same as you and me. They were just brought up in a different society. As someone else mentioned, you don't climb the social ladder either.
  18. Have the specs been released for this game yet? I'm planning on buying a graphics card soon for the PC copy of MW2 that I bought almost a year ago, and I'd like to make sure I can play this one, in case it turns out to be good enough to take all of MW2's players.
  19. That's Boxxy, and she is completely un-pretty.

I disagree :) I think if people here were as anti-religion as you think they are, you would have had a bunch of posts about how 'well now thers no god lol'. Are you saying you think it proves the Bible stories could be literal, and you feel people aren't acknowledging that possibility?
  21. Well, my best relationship with a teacher would be with the Band Director, but I've been in classes with him for years. There are two different history teachers I like, each with very different teaching styles 1. He taught World History II. I liked him because he got the students involved in the topic. I have never liked learning about China, but I can safely say I enjoyed it when in his class. Textbook reading was minimal, notes were done in the form of him writing some stuff (usually a flowchart) on the board briefly, then doing an activity. He would constantly be doing things like dressing up as Truman and asking us to act as his cabinet, advising him on whether or not to drop the bomb based on what they knew at the time. Pros: Class was INTERACTIVE. This is both fun and a good teaching tool. Learn to role-play, think of ways to teach beside notes. Also, very little textbook reading and not many class notes. I actually looked forward to this class every day. Cons: I don't know if I learned as much. The stuff he taught holds well, but I think I learned less facts. Also, I found the class easy, and ended up skipping half of the essays, while still passing easily. So while it wasn't entirely his fault, I didn't learn much about writing. 2. She taught World History I and American History. She was an intense teacher, and very difficult. One of the big thinks in WHI was removing the passive tense from our writing, and I think I learned much more about writing from her. Pros: Learned lots of facts, lots of writing. Class was challenging. Gave us sources besides the textbook to read which really expanded my understanding of the topic. Cons: Not as interactive, too many notes from a somniferous book, and most teaching was done with powerpoints, which were boring.
  22. I do believe that I have ASPD or APD which is a form of psychopathy. There isn't a refined definition, and it's not a refined science, but I would disagree. You show empathy for others, and feel bad about what you did. I've never liked labels anyways. Let's just say you're sadistic and exhibit antisocial traits compulsively, but feel empathy. I guess it's my turn, as whatever I say won't compare to Mr. Vezonfenrak. -I don't always follow through with obligations -I have been excessively tardy to school in the past. Not skipping classes, but leaving the house too late to get to school on time, almost every day. -The worst was last year, when I had Saturday detentions and in-school suspensions quite often. -Those two combined resulted in a truancy CHINS last spring from my parents, but I was too old for it to be admitted, so they filed a defiance CHINS, which is in the process of blowing over since the tardiness has pretty much subsided. -The court date last Tuesday was to formalize the CHINS, and I have another one in a few months where the judge will decide what to do. If all goes well, I won't be late too much and he'll dismiss it.
  23. Sorrows? Are you sure? It seemed to me like you enjoyed all of that stuff. If you feel sorry, why not stop? I really hate hurting people. I find it fun, but at the same time it really hurts when I hurt someone whom I love. The same goes for stealing things. I feel accomplished when I pull off a successful heist, but I always worry about getting caught or something. The only person who knows irl is my gf. I haven't taken any courses in Psychology, but that looks like some sort of compulsive need to prove you're better, but with empathy (so not psychopathy) and foresight. Do you try to stop hurting people, or are you only interested in avoiding hurting those you love?
  24. Now that I think of it, I may not have gotten on until after 5:30. That's a pretty significant chunk of time, but wouldn't it make more sense to attack in the evening, when the concentration of users is highest?
