Does anyone else think about this?
I don't think you guys really understand the lower-class teenagers who spend life swearing, smoking, and fighting. I keep hearing about goals, but that's really the key difference - their goals are either non-existent or incomrehensibly different from those of a highly-educated individual. This difference stems from the differences between their environment and ours. They were taught from an early age that they shouldn't expect to rule the world, and they would just have to enjoy life as best they can. In this way, the lower classes are actually happier. It's not because they're successful, it's because they have a different mindset. An example: The scumbags I met in community service seemed to be constantly swearing and telling stories about drugs or fighting. But when the conversation turned to school and the future, I noticed something interesting: They weren't bad kids. Most of them talked about a legitimate interest in building and working on cars, and a couple of the older ones were working on getting into some sort of appreticeship or trade school. I guess that leads to a great question: Do you really have a better life? If they can live and work happily on something they love, while you struggle through essays, publications, scholarships, and deadlines, whose life is really the better one? FFFFFFFFF- I hate that book. From what I saw in your post, without knowledge of any of your other opinions, you appear to be spewing anti-socialist garbage. What makes you so sure that capitalism is right that, if subjected to a new lifestyle, you would revert to semi-terroristic attempts to destroy society? And Atlas Shrugged is just awful, for more reasons than the anti-socialist one. Libertarians should be ashamed to consider it one of the most important literary works of their doctrine. Oh, and on the topic of addiction: Most addicts deny their addiction, usually through such comedic feats of backwards logic as "I could stop if I wanted to, but I don't want to".

Reveal Confessions, Secrets & Regrets...
Jealousy tends to make us do the craziest things. Similarly, I often feel the need to create something beautiful and then DESTROY IT. Usually via some sort of creative writing. I have been singing a lot recently, as with a bit of creativity the cold I have makes my voice sound like Frank Sinatra (give or take a few hundred voice cracks).

Minecraft General
This game is so awesome. I started playing this afternoon, and my brother saw me and it turns out he payed the $10 for an account a while ago, and would let me use it. I built a house in a naturally-occuring tunnel thing, with an above-ground area outside one end of it. I'm currently working on building a glass roof for the outside area. I also created a tunnel down to a cave with lava and stuff, but had to fill it in because I didn't know about ladders at the time. When I get enough wood for it, I'll go back down. On top of the house I built a pillar straight into the air by holding down space and right-click, so now I can always find my house. I also figured out how to swim up waterfalls to reach new areas of caves by holding space. The only bad thing was that I built the house sort of far from my respawn point, and far from the beach. When I get time I'd like to build a boat and go exploring the ocean. I haven't tried multiplayer yet, but if it works it would be fun to get a TIF mine going. By the way, [spoiler==O]

Recruitment Drive
I've been lurking around here occasionally, and as an outsider looking to get more involved, there are two big obstacles I've noticed: 1. Lack of traffic. Everything seems to move slowly here. This seems to be both a cause and an effect of not having very many people who post regularly. This could be solved by giving people a reason to pass through. Roleplaying isn't for everybody, but I'm sure many more people would be into it casually if they just stumbled upon a thread one day. 2. Many threads appear overly complicated to a new roleplayer. A combination of labyrinthine rules, extensive backstories, and verbose introductions quickly bores a reader who isn't used to this sort of threads. You need to start with smaller threads that are easier to jump into, then the more complicated ones will build up naturally with the increased interest in the Tavern. Also, I thought Iconic quit? His quitting thread is still on the first page. Plus he mentions Hextriplet as a lost hero in the OP, but confesses to being an alternate account in the other thread. I guess the real pro roleplayers get so involved that they start developing alternate personalities in real life.

- Graphics Card Help, Please?
I have an HP and it's been fine so far. It was wierd that I had a 250w psu when the card it was shipped with needed more than that, though. Joe, the links are on my other computer. I'll post them in a bit when I get on that one. Sbrideau, if you wouldn't mind looking, it would be great. I normally would do it myself, but I really have no idea what to look for in graphics cards. It's all a bunch of letters to me. Oh, and some other important information (I think). I may be remembering this wrong, but I currently use a VGA cable (which apparently is from like the 70s), and the computer doesn't have an HDMI (or whichever one is the normal one used these days) connection thing. The monitor doesn't either, but it has DVI (if I remembered that right), so we would connect the monitor directly to the graphics card through a slot in the back of the CPU. PSU links: http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/power_management/ocz_550w_fatal1ty_series_power_supply http://www.amazon.com/OCZ-OCZ550FTY-Fatal1ty-Power-Supply/dp/B001MTYS06- Things that annoy the HELL out of you.
I once woke up in the middle of the night with an idea for a crime novel-type thing. It was all there in my mind, and I decided not to write it down because of how clearly I had it and I didn't want to turn on the light or fumble around for a notebook. You can guess what happened in the morning. DAMN YOU LATE-NIGHT EPIPHANIES!! I once had a late-night epiphany involving nihilism, unicorns, and Plato's Academy. I wrote it down in my dream journal (which is now buried in a drawer somewhere because I don't have dreams often anymore). I think it ended with some revelation about how "our existence is nothing/ we're not actually real" and I thought this was hilarious because unicorns are imaginary (the unicorns were the only characters in the story, including the one who has the revelation). I woke up in the morning and was like WTF.- Most Wanted Sequels
The Force Unleased 2 comes out next March. It's not really a "most wanted sequel", but it should be fun.- Things that annoy the HELL out of you.
Wow. He probably just wasn't thinking. You'd think he might invite you to hang out with the other friend though. He sounds like an [wagon].- Reveal Confessions, Secrets & Regrets...
Because people who don't know to click there won't click it. And I completely forgot about the RSN. People I know (mostly my family) have always known my RSN because I use it for everything. I like to keep my internet and social lives seperate, mostly because I don't want people I know irl reading stuff I write on here. So yeah, my mom figured out what Tip.It is and she was stalking me on it to see if I would confess something incriminating. I don't seriously think she's reading my posts, but she was looking at them to say "Herp derp why were you online at 1:32 AM" so I'd rather just avoid feeling like I'm talking to my family every time I post.- Literature
<3: <3: Funke is a great writer for children/young teens. She also wrote Inkheart (iirc) which was one of my favorite books ever. I don't remember The Thief Lord very well, beyond the fact that it was a great read, because it was quite a while ago that I read it. The Inkheart trilogy, on the other hand, ended recently, and it was great. Argh. Seriously, "Creative Writing class" is an oxymoron. I'm rarely satisfied with my writing for school because it's always so forced.- The HIGH Road
The fact that you admitted to sharing similar (although less extreme) views of what you've been posting should tell you something about yourself. Believe it or not, my aim is to be fair, honest, and even scientific. I do acknowledge the faults and (logical) criticisms against weed. Yet you seem to be telling me that I fit this "POT IS INFALLIBLE" stereotype or something? Well, it depends on what you consider a real benefit. Does chocolate have benefits? Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds to me like you're saying weed is inherently bad, when really it's the user's responsibility that should be taken into account, just like how we judge everything else (candies, scissors, cars, rocks). My opinion is that they have the high potential of misuse, and unfortunately many do this, but there are some who can use them in a beneficial manner. The post wasn't really directed at you, as I agree with most of your opinions. You don't fit the "pot is infallible" stereotype, but certain posters here, including the OP, seem to. Those were the individuals I was addressing. I'm not saying weed is bad. I'm saying the idea that smoking weed is better than not doing so is silly.- Graphics Card Help, Please?
I have a DIY uncle who has built computers, and he came over to take a look yesterday. We measured the case and stuff, found that it was standard, and ordered a 550w PSU from Amazon for $65. I'm waiting to decide on a graphics card until I know the PSU will work. Thanks for the response. I think the 550w psu opens up the possibility of some higher-end graphics cards. Would something better than the 5670 really be a waste of money? I was interested in the 5700s because I read the DirectX11 support means they'll work well with games in the future.- The HIGH Road
With all due respect, what does this post add to the discussion? I see a personal attack, a flame bait, and a generalization. Nowhere is there even a reference to the topic. I'm not sure you even know how to read based on what I see here. What, exactly, does "the world" gain from you?- The HIGH Road
And you compare terrorist motives to lizard men from mars, therefore you are delusional. My comment was clearly trolling. Those of you who didn't realize that must have mental defects. ;) This thread is on the brink of a flame war, so I must confess: 1. Many of my posts were trollish in nature. I just couldn't pass up a thread like this, seeing the bias in the first post and knowing the audience it would attract. My opinions are generally the same as those I expressed, but less extreme. 2. I had about four hours of sleep the night before a couple of the more incoherent posts. I apologize for that, but the fact that those are the posts you chose to respond to should tell you something about yourselves. My opinion that there are no real benefits to drugs or alcohol still stands. I will say, however, that you are entitled to your own opinions, and I do not think marijuana should be illegal while alcohol remains legal. Please read the post again carefully to be sure that you didn't miss anything in your enhanced state of mind. [spoiler=Too Stoned, Didn't Read]- Reveal Confessions, Secrets & Regrets...
SHHH I'll explain this in a coupla days, probably. I'm being hunted by the men in white coats.- Literature
Both Varrock Library and Falador Tavern are dead, and it's a shame. I think it's really because there aren't enough people passing through. People knew from the beginning that it would be TLDR, so don't even bother looking anymore. I like the poem. The theme is great, and I like how you developed it. The rhythm and rhyme flow well, but towards the end it felt a bit off. If you want advice, I would say keep the same ideas, but fix up those last three stanzas. Also, if I were writing it I would continue it on a bit longer - perhaps mention the flames licking at the speaker's feet, but he feels no pain, and an incredible warmth creeps over him, cutting through the cold, emotionless haze. I would also include more figurative language. I think it would be really interesting to develop the whole "this is my casket" idea, and perhaps personify the fire or create an imaginary setting in the speaker's mind (parallelled by hallucinations). Basically, I like it, and continue thinking about it and developing it. The beauty of writing for pleasure is that you can revise and change whenever and whatever you want.- Reveal Confessions, Secrets & Regrets...
