I am running a space-esque game in the sense that it could be described an 'enhanced-dungeoneering', I already have a few players already but you can join if you want. It, however is not set in space, its set in a dark-fantasy setting.

Spork, I think that you can just use the inbuilt gameranger system which allows you to set up games between friends. Alternatively we could use LAN over Hamachi but I don't really understand how that works.

To be honest, I think one of the great things about AOE II is that its not decided who wins from the start like other strategy games, its a game in which you can turn the tide with a bit of clever tactics. It may need a certain degree of control if you want to emulate a hegemony perfectly but otherwise I fail to see what the problem is. If you wanted to emulate a hegemony I would use a massive map and maybe add a few bot players.

Does anybody here have Age of Empires II? I would love to run a tavern game and I think it would be great fun. You must get gameranger for multiplayer but otherwise the game is fairly simple. I personally think that it is the best of the AOE series. It doesn't have any DRM so is quite fun. Alternatively if you have AOEI and not AOEII I could play AOE, or even AOE III.

Should I start a game then? There are a few annoying limits for non-premium users. Does anybody have Age of Empires I or II, that would be fun to see who wins.

You could try Rizon however it doesn't seem to work for everybody if they use the webclient, one of the people I was using it to connect with kept disconnecting but the problem was fixed upon getting a client. It may require some people to get a client. irc.rizon.net http://www.efnet.org/ also provides some fairly easy to use IRC which I don't think has many problems with it. It has easy connection and can be used by clients from irc.efnet.org If you want to use AIM or Hotmail then you can just use a web based client, there are seven with meebo and http://www.ebuddy.com/ at the top. It certainly won't corrupt systems but is filled with advertisments and other annoying rubbish. Or if you want you could host a shoutbox on your dropbox account.
