You like melee...don't you. You named all 4 melee. I agree that Karils sucks...but Ahrims is pretty good. That being said, I've never owned a barrow armor. When I get it, it will be dharoks or versacs, but it would be guthans if I could afford. Funny you say that. I'm always a ranger, and always have been a ranger. I hate Karil's set because it brings nothing useful to the ranger table. We don't need more powerful weapons, we need more tactical uses for our current weapons. Ahrims I think is fairly decent for the mage bonus. I have some, and I use it fairly frequently. I just don't think the set effect makes it worth the extra cash over mystic. Torags is my least favorite. The effect is god-awful, and the weapon is slow and weak. The armor bonus you get from Torags is only slightly worse than guthans, which I also have. I find guthans to be the most effective, both for set effect and armor bonus.

duuuh, it's gotta be guthans. Lol. Guthans is good for killing NPCs, Veracs is good against other player and the KQ, Torags is good for sheer armor, and Dharoks is good for str training. The rest suck, IMHO.

I went to karate right before you guys wnt to the battlefield. It was my idea of going to the KBD (I have a screeny to prove it), sorry I wasn't able to lead my battalion, flame. I had a blast, donated my armor to some level 17 afterwards. I hope flame comes up with another great idea like this one. And if you do, I promise to lead better next time.

I'm not a math genius, but here's what I'd do: Do you have mathematica? You can solve the quartic by expressing the roots of the function as transcendatal Riemann zeta function outputs. (Not making any of this up.) http://library.wolfram.com/examples/quintic/steps.html#program The complex surface generate by the quartic formula has roots where the Riemann zeta function intersects itself. This is primarily a website concerned with finding an algebraic expression of the general term quintic, but with mathematic you can solve for the quartic in the same way. This is for the roots of a quartic, you can invoke the same process (averaging the roots) to get rough approximations of the vertices, which you can then check with calculus (the dy/dx function on your calc). Sorry if that made no sense, I'm still only in Algebra Two honors, but I'm a total mathematica math freak.

Hehe, as a leader, should I get there early for advanced training? Because this event is 7 AM my time, which is quite early in the morning. No complaints, just wondering how early I need to get up.

This last idea really appeals to me... Gives farming a whole new meaning and subset too. I think they could really work this in. Try putting that in the suggestions forum on the main site... I think more rangers would like that.

As it includes elements of a rant and a discussion, I thought I best to place it in Gen p2p. If the mods have differing opinions as to where my discussion question and opinion should be placed, it is within their jurisdiction and up to their judgement on where to locate my post.

Get one thing straight please: I absolutely ADORE ranging. IMHO it's the best tactic to kill NPCs. Cheaper than mage, and if you safe spot, you take the least damage. It's just that all combat styles should be well rounded. Melee is simple, halfway decent against NPCs and halfway decent in PVP situations. Mage is expensive, sometimes has low effectiveness against NPCs, bt brilliant and very effective in PVP. Ranged: Ranged is definately the best (again, IMHO) for NPC combat, but the WORST in PVP. I'm just saying we need new tactics, not more firepower.

I actually spend a lot more of my time ranging than I do meleeing. The reason my melee stats are high is so that I can play pest control for exp. I find that ranging is simply more enjoyable to play, and after all, that's the whole point of RS. (I also like the shiny graphics of the crystal bow arrows :lol: )

Getting prepped for ranging in CW is much more complicated than the lowly smash and bash of meleers. (pardon my french if you think meleeing is high and mighty and should be a god like Saradomin or Zamorak.) I think fellow rangers and to the same extent, mages, will agree with me on this. We need to work out our tactics accurately, and practice them ad nauseum for them to have a small chance of winning. Mages are excellent on offence against meleers. This is the nature of the combat triangle, or so Jagex says. Rangers are supposed to be great against mages, or so the combat triangle says. RANGERS ARE NOT UNDERPOWERED! WE ARE UNDER-TACTIC-ED! As rangers, our only options are: 1) Shoot mages from a distance, hope to not attract attention. 2) Shoot mages up close, pray to god we don't get owned. 3) Shoot meleers in full torags and fail miserably :boohoo: 4) Give up on the whole shooting things situation and bust out a dds. We REALLY are stuck on what we can do. Mages have the option to bind, or use ice spells. They can weaken, hold, lower levels, suck health, and other wonderful things. Rangers? We can shoot stuff. See my point? Rangers have not needed more power (we can hit fine), but we have needed more TACTICAL options. I think that poisoning arrows was a step in the right direction, but it's a waste of a weapon poison, because if used on a melee weapon, that same poison lasts indefinitely. In comes the crystal bow. It is definitely the highest powered ranged weapon, save maybe Karil's bow. That's far to expensive to maintain in constant games of CW for me to even consider using it. I've been ranging since May 2004, and of all the updates I've seen, not one gives a useful and accurate TACTICAL advantage to rangers. (Don't bother pointing out Karil's set, because, to quote an unknown Tip.it-er's sig, "Karil's set effect could only be more useless if it lowered firemaking.") We get more and more powerful, but this is not the issue. We need options. Fire arrows, ice arrows, binding arrows, anything! The new crossbows are a step in the right direction, but the reason most high level rangers do not use them is that they are too slow, and the special effect of the gemtipped bolts is too infrequent. If the special effect was a 100% drain special attack, I guarantee the crossbows would bring ranging back into vogue. My favorite weapon is, by far, the crystal bow. I love it to death. I wanted to know how much better it is than all other ranging weapons: I did the math: by the sixth payment (buy for 900k, recharge for 900k, then 720k, then 540k, then 360k, then 180k), you will have payed 3.6m for 15,000 shots of better-than-rune with a bow that averages a ranged bonus of +82 (versus a static bonus of +69 on mage short/long). At this price, on average you spend 240 gp per shot (over six payments) (better than rune arrows, and much cheaper). You also get a bow that's on average much stronger than a mage short or long by an average ranged bonus of +13. (This bonus is greater than a robin and an archer ring added together, for much less cash.) Summary: Make a return with the first six payments (i.e. kill blue drags or something) to make money from your investment. THEN, take it to CW and own ppl with 2500 shots of better than rune arrows for GET THIS: 72gp per shot (after recharging for 180k) PWNage, huh? That's why rangers with Crystal bows (and seerculls) own mages with ahrims. Yeah, I know, but you can't swap members gear on and off in f2p. So if I wanted to use the Mjolinir and the Banner on f2p, I couldn't do that. I'd have to swap in p2p then re-log on in f2p.

Aaawww nuts. I just bought a sara Mjolinir for this event and I was hoping to use it as a leader. I guess I can swap them in and out on p2p.
