I know I haven't posted here in a while. Actively in a longer while. But to spread my joy I decided to share the fact that I just got hired as a Flash Developer by Sysopendigia. Now this wouldn't be so cool without the story, now would it? Ok ok, here's the story. My brother studies telecom engineering and specialises in usability. So he sent his application to sysopendigia, an open one. They were impressed by his achievements but only needed a flash dev, so they asked him to make a "sample program" to show his actionscript skills. He has none. Neither did I. But as my job applications were turned down I decided to do the sample. Nothing major, an media player application that shows some pictures and plays some music when told so. So I took a weekend and read some tutorials and such. Made an butt-ugly player and sent them it telling I was his brother and studying similar things. Only two years behind. (which means I haven't laid my eyes on anything concerning "usability") They bought it and wanted to interview me. They gave me a hard time in the interview with questions about usability and programming in general for the full TWO HOURS of it. I soon realised they wanted a real professional, since the post was their only flash dev in the city. The perks listing also pointed that this wasn't a summer job for the students with company cars, paid paternity leave, sick child childcare and such. After over a week of not hearing from them I was quite sure it slipped by. But yesterday a mail came by offering the job for me. I'm ever so happy. If someone feels like checking the flash sample program out, here are the packages. http://www.elias.pietila.fidisk.fi/theprojectsmall.zip no source code http://www.elias.pietila.fidisk.fi/theproject.zip with source code and files.

*Hugs* Aw, your desktop is much cleaner than mine. Even when I hit F11 I'm having a hard time seeing it. Worked most of the time in 50% or 66.7% since the original is over 2000x and the leaves didn't stick out so badly in that size. I guess it really would need some fine-tuning near the bottom of the dress. PS It does look a bit like being bitten by a zombie! Then again...falling into leaves isn't too great of a thing either. PPS Korla, your sig is still the best.

This is pretty much the final version of the autumn picture I posted earlier. Now in 1600x1200 resolution for your wallpapering pleasures. Replaced leaves with some real ones and added some more wintery scenery. Be sure to tell me which you prefer! I won't post it directly for it's 2.4 megs. ouch. http://www.elias.pietila.fidisk.fi/autumn2.jpg and old one http://www.elias.pietila.fidisk.fi/autumn.jpg

I was honestly waiting for someone to ask what the hell was I thinking with the text. I didn't have any fonts installed that I like, so I wrote a placeholder with my 20-year-old (five was close) hands. Heh. I'm finishing it with quite a few changes come this weekend. Thanks, nice to be back. (now that people are commenting  )

Thanks for compliments. Four comments for 90+ views ( I bet half are mine  ). Come on people, tell me what you think. Pretty please? :D

I wonder what the crusade against smudge tool is all about. :-k The knight itself is solid but nothing spectacular. The background trees on the other hand and are just brilliant. Great job, superb textures.
-
Sure you may. I'll be posting a bigger version when it's complete suitable for wallpaper and such.

I used to have a sig like that a few years back... Let's see... I should have it here somewhere. Aha! Hmmh.. I remembered it was better. What a shame. Try to get it more fluid. Reducing colors allows for more frames.

I've been without a tablet since months as I lost my graphire's pen. (that's the reason nobody got Christmas cards from me, so don't feel unloved at all). Well, my mother decided to go all nuts and get me a A4 Intuos3 for the holidays and she has been bugging me ever since as to "why I haven't done anything with it". I guess I lost interest in trying to make graphics after seeing too many fancy works by others. Knowing I'd never be anywhere as good is quite discouraging. Well. I finally got around doing something. And I like it enough to share it. Seek any meaning in it you like. There is none. Used 3 stocks from http://www.sxc.hu/. http://www.sxc.hu/photo/700151 that one for the bech and right side... too lazy to find the other links :D Whadda ya think?

LORDI - The second coming. Contains monstrous material!

I'd say the eurovision has always been too naive to be taken seriously but I don't feel Lordi makes it a circus. They've been doing their thing for over ten years and I'm sure their fanbase doesn't consist of lil kiddies. Thanks for praises 8-) -

Holy moley. This is IMO the best work I've seen from you. (I could have missed quite a few of the newest ones though, so don't be offended :D). Absolutely great. I love how it has nice fine detail to it which you don't usually seem to have. The eye area gets three thumbs up. -
Finland my great country has never succeeded in any way in the annual Eurovision songcontest. It's become a tradition for our people to get pissed every spring because of the atrocity of not getting any points for our "should win" performers. Well this year Lordi broke that tradition and quite a few other traditions related to Eurovision. We won. Wow. That was odd. Well, almost two years ago Azvareth made a signature competition. The subject was Lordi. The band. There were no entrants. Well I tried and got promised a party hat if I ever made it but I found it too consuming. Plus it didn't look too much like him (or them...I later found out there was a bunch of people he wanted me to draw). Well I still haven't finished any signature nor any of the band members. Not even mr. Lordi himself but still. I wanted to post this picture. For it may again be as far as I get on my quest to complete the elusive Lordi signature which celebrates its second anniversary of "in-the-making" in a few months. Here's a picure of the fella (not done by me) And here is the thing I've been cooking today with my trusted Wacom. Any comments? ROCK ON!

A picture that was printed on a newspaper (by me!!)

It's fun how a big fire can turn into a social event. There were thousands of spectators following the inferno. Good thing it there was only a little breeze or else the city would have been severely filled with smoke. I guess the fact the image was recieved through cellphone made them believe it's authentic. If that was mailed or had anything to do with computers.....FAKE. I'm liking the left side of the added smoke. The "shine". If you crop it down to the smoke and sun it looks almost a "space scene" made in PS. -
There was a horrible fire in downtown Helsinki last friday. Some youth fanatics apparently burned down one of "their gathering places" which was going to be demolished today. The large and flat buildings were mainly made out of wood so the inferno was rather intense. So, I happened to be at the scene when the fire was starting up. In time to take some shots with my crappy Ixus. Well, most of them aren't that good and that's basicly not the point of this thread so I won't post them. Here are some nice pictures if someone is interested. http://www.hs.fi/kuvakoosteframe/1135219780009 Anyway, one of biggest news papers in the Helsinki area has a daily "cellphone photocontest". You can send in shots you've taken with mobile cameras and each day one of them gets on the paper. Well, my cellphones camera is the very definiton of a bad camera though it has 1280x resolution. So, I planned to cheat. But when you cheat. Why stop at using a real camera to take the picture? So, I took one of my pictures of the fire. Nothing special about it. Though I liked the fact it had the sun and the tower of national museum in it. And to photoshop we went. http://www.elias.pietila.fidisk.fi/img_1971.jpg There's the original. (it's a meg or so....sorry) So after a bit of modification. (mainly the biiig smoke and the flames). Here is the one I uploaded to my camera and sent as "cellphone photo". And well, they printed it. Got 50 euros, which is quite low sum but covers the expenses of 30 minute photoshopping :D Now all I have to do is come up with good ideas of "photos" and shop 'em up. They seemed to have no clue it's edited though if you examine it for a second it is quite apparent. I'm still surprised they didn't ask me if that SERIOUSLY was taken with a PHONE?!

Yeh, that forearm is way off. Still the thing that bothers me the most is your "light source". You have drawn a source yet the picture in now way reflects that "choice".
-
I know the makes are not a part of the car. Come on.... I'm just saying they are aligned to a 3d object and that kind of turns me off. And I didn't mean you should chrome them up, just fit the perspective. :D
-
Nice looking. Spiffy. Though I've never seen a business card with non vector graphics. Yeah, I don't go out that much do I? On the text. I think the brands are a bit cheesy looking. Not really fitting. The logo (which for some reason doesn't seem to be on the surface rather than hovering few millimeters on top) and background have this 3D perspective and suddenly there is a flat 2D text that tries to interact with it. The lower text is ok as it is a separate element. I'd suggest perhaps planting the car maker's onto the car's surface. For me the text needs to be either separate from the background or truly a part of it. I might also add that the reflection is well, somewhat unapparent for a car. Is it supposed to be inside a dealership? or what? And then just a quick suggestion. Have you tried giving the logo a bit glow? Not sure if it's needed but now it's a bit "clinical". Great work nevertheless.

bumping a post one month later...that's...something. -
I explained it all in the former thread but it is mainly intended for the button. Replacing the drawing on it. In a larger scale of course. As you can see that one is drawn in more comical manner. If I just downsize this one there will be nobbody thinking it's a drawing but a photograph. Probably whatever I do to it, the general populity is considering it a processed photo at best. so well. Aww :(

About the advanced skills I don't know but I'm glad you reminded me of the hair in the back of the neck. Geez. There definately should be some, though not much. Well, I'll just have to fake some hair there . I'll be working on the hair on the ear as well, looks a bit odd. Now what remains to be done is making it look more comical. Ah well, that'll have to wait. Oh yeah thanks everyone for comments. <3 :D PS Nadril, there might be a second version hosted. I wonder where it could be?
-
Finally got around to work on the piece I posted here a while back. The hair is now more properly done and there are a large amount of fixing here and there. Fixed the nose to look like it should, but you couldn't know how it should look so...well....it's actually quite a lot better now, believe me! Fixed the left eye...but uhh... now you can't even see how I fixed it so...well...it's better now! Finished some neck area. Even though there is no clothing to be seen, don't worry there was. Had somewhat problematic time with the hair. If anyone has some good technical advice concearning it I'd be greatful. Have fun commenting.

This one has some problems. I'd suggest adding perhaps more colours to remove the excessively apparent dithering. It seems to pixelish atm. For prime example I'd choose the paladin. The armor is made out of metal but due to dithering it has no gloss and the texture makes it look like fabric. I'm in love with the flames though. great job.
-
The shading or lack of such in the torso is in my eyes the biggest problem. Compared to the nicely done shadows in the legs it really sticks out. Overall it's impressive.
-
I'm afraid you are wrong. He claimed to "use a lot of random colours". How are they random if they are taken from the photograph. He intentionally led us to belive it wasn't referenced (well, I recognized the photograph straigth away, so it wasn't going to fly). "no tracing"?? "similarities hardly noticable"?!?!? blind? I cropped and used free transform on the photo I linked and TADAA. If I aligned them well it would be apparent that the left side is indeed traced. I mean...HE COPIED THE DISTORTED STARS. (starsa are usually round not squished). Btw..as you can see my photo isn't as wide as his...and why is that? because the right side of the image is indeed a mirror od the left side blended in. just look straigth aboce where the photo ends and look for similarities on the other side. And no. I'm not here to bash the maker of the pixel. There is an amount of work involved in the picture and even areas not heavily referenced. I'm here to point out some facts.
-
I'm not saying that this lessens the value of the space part but still. You could have mentioned the reference when it was so apparent... erm...not. http://www.akhtarnama.com/images/Orion% ... %20CCD.jpg Anyone thinking of flip horizontal and squish? btw...it's first hit in google images for "nebula".
