  1. Indeed venomai, this is not art. Those pieces are. I'll never be an artist and I'm fine with it. I'll make dull lil things 'till forever. I'm greatly appreciative of your comments, though, and been pleased to watch your growth from mainly mediocre abstracts to some tasty paintings. However this particular one is close to what it aimed for. Still going to continue and make it LESS "photorealistic" and more comic. For the aim was this... This is a sort of tag/button/banner thing for her blog. But it isn't featuring her, rather it's an edit from Valio's (finnish dairy producer) advert. The plan is to make a mimicing one with her picture in a red color scheme. (which also demads a tone fix on the face since it's rather reddish) You might ask why the trouble for avatar size picture where nobody will notice a difference between a photo and the painting.... (well hopefully it won't get confused for a photo when I'm done with it)... and yes I plead to the tip.it forums' 5th amendment "I was bored".
  2. One word Azvy. Old. I used to think the Lordi looked kind of neat , but now it's rather hideous. I'll redo it this thursday. (hello matey) And thanks for the ones in belief. The thing making it seem more photgraph-like IMO is the trick I tried to bring some texture to it. The hairline didn't look anything like real until I used this neat way to add "randomness". After brush strokes the skin was also way too "clean" so I went with it again. Has a great impact. For any uncontent souls: check the left side of the image. The shading is actually way off in places. And yes it's time for a bit of a confession. I did use a color reference. I have a terrible eye for color, so I used a photograp from another person's face to get some colors. Again...huge help. (If you look at the right part of the chin/cheek you might notice I went a little overboard with some greener hues)
  3. Your disbelief is actually flattering. Thanks guys. Tells me I did a good job. I still don't get what you mean by cropping. If you ever painted with PS you'd know it's always based on trial and error. You make an outline...you correct the outline. I started by roughly sketching the form of the face (and yes the whole neck is done as well and I'm next going to finish the pearl necklace I sketched). After that I've erased and painted near the edges a multitude of times trying to make the shape better and better. In a way you are right...it is a crop from the full version. (neck + upper parts of the dress ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ just a tiny bit of it though)
  4. I was asked to do a portrait of my mother for her blog. I'm unaware if posting it here is a rule violation or not but here goes. (it's going to be public anyway on the blog..). It took me about 2,5 hours to get to the point it is now. And am I pleased! Finally something that turned out ok. (not that I have made anything in ages). It's brushed on photoshop without using too much smudging (yippee). The version here is scaled down 50% from the original. The hair is still unfinished as anyone equiped with eyes can notice. Just wanted to make a preview so I rushed some hair to it. Oh and believe or not, it looks like her. Oh and a reference? Didn't have to resort to anything digital this time  Comment or just say hi! (any improvement tips are highly appreciated) PS The blog's name is "sun ÃÆÃâÃâäitis" = "your mother" and it's one of the most popular in Finland.
  5. I'm glad you finally added different hues. And the one before this had something going for it even. But come on. Don't you think it's getting a tad old by now? Same exact elements...same exact technique. I was for a millisecond pleased reading this "now im starting a new project from scratch." But then I continued to this "gunna be my v-day devation prolly". I dunno. PS upper right hand side, a bird and a heart form a nice genital-like form
  6. When I saw the upper reference I was thinking "someone watching wide screen in an old TV?". But apparently I was beaten to the punch :? As for the drawing. I think it suffers greatly from a fundamental error that I also encounter every time when using a reference. You are more concerned in reproducing the actual "pixels" rather than the overall shapes, forms, expressions. Usually that leads to an image looking more robotic than terminator ever did. Your face is a badly sown together mosaic of details. The mouth looks out of place and so does the eyes and nose. You start with details and work for a "bigger picture" but I think you should try to do it the other way around. A proof of that is for example the fact that in the original image you see a ton of emotion, but in your version you really can't say what she is feeling. First try to get the forms right and then incorporate the details to the work. It's not bad (im liking the shading for example). But you could do much better.
  7. I don't mean to sound harsh but it hardly is a "style". Your style is to do "a detail...another detail...detail...another detail" and hope it makes a great piece. It usually ends up being lifeless, as is the case this time.
  8. I'd like to see you come up with a unique and original style that no one else uses... I said it was fine the first time. And I still think I've done quite a few nice works. For the record. It's hearts...how original can a pile of hearts be? With some brushes and stroked paths? I'd say the DH's sig above me is thrice the originality of your heart work.
  9. This post of yours makes me deeply sad. Why? Well, when I posted here for the first time (scapeboard), you were as noobish with your modeling as I'm now. And was then. And it seems will be for eternity and more. Well, you got good at modeling, I got good at....nothing? Yes, indeed, I haven't in the last few years learnt anything that has made me happy, satisfied, or that will with great probability help me in the future. Nil. ZILCH. nada. And that is sad indeed. I could have, for sure, learnt to become a good modeler given the obscure amounts of free time i have on my hands. but no. You did, I congratulate you. And "If I were to critique on it" ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ã
  10. The points annoying me the most are the paper flat perspective and his legs being three times the length of his upper body. Other than that its filled with nice details. However when you outline each part with the fat black it makes the image cartoony. The coloring doesn't really work with the outlined style IMO. Find a better stance for DK to pump an extra dimension to it. Add more highlights. Cut the leggies.
  11. number 2. Just because I'm bored to death by LP's heart thingies. Once was ok. But this is the thrid piece?
  12. 'shrooms are nice. The moon's less so.
  13. Since I haven't posted in longer than it takes frozen syrup to stream across the globe I thought I'd wish you all happy holidays with my traditional Christmas card. Last year I posted the iPod add mimicing one but this time there were no real ideas and the result isn't too brilliant. Been too long since I tried to do any graphics it seems. I have also lost my wacom pen during my absence. Can't go brushing. Grrr. It was done in 300dpi 7x14cm (many pixelz), but my own host is down and this cheapo host resized it to smaller size even though I did save under the 500KB limit. Go figure. Now it's both small and bad quality. Try to enjoy! Oh and it says "have a warm Christmas" kind of. The wood is taken from a stock at stck.xhng as is the golden part at top of the ball. Rest is fun at photoshop.
  14. The grass is basicly photorealistic with madly precise color changes. Hulk and the sky however have smooth, gradient like shades. It creates a bit of a conflict. But ahh the grass - godlike. It's way best pixel sig you have ever posted and IMO the best pixel one on TIF, ever.
  15. And in the lucky case that your laptop happens to be a Macintosh, you are not supposed to have a print screen button. Come on...what a waste of buttons is that. One button for one function. On mac: cmd + alt + 3 = screenshot cmd + alt + ctrl + 3 = screenshot to clipboard cmd + alt + 4 = screenshot (but gives you a selection tool to pick the are you want) cmd + alt + ctrl + 4 = same to clipboard. tadaa.
  16. that is truly mad amount of work you have put into this one and it has really payed off. It's wow...in capital. WOW. Can you post the reference? WOW.
  17. Off topic: whee 1000 posts. I really can't be against referencing when I do it in such vast propotions. :D Though I fear that in this case you have over concentrated on getting the lines right. The shading should definately be the given more attention. That's all.
  18. Since they are so heavily referenced I don't really see any substance in them. You have basically been able to copy the "linework" but your images lack depth alltogether. Im sorry :(
  19. Rather interesting that I've always "read" it as "titia" too. Though in Finnish the pronounciation is more like "[bleep] ee uh". About the ADSL speeds. Yes, if you have a 8/1 meg adsl like me that means you get the theoretical maximum of 1000kB/s download and 125kB/s upload.
  20. I've posted this before but here it is again. My first sig. And here's a WIP of a banner for my mother's blog. "Sun ÃÆÃââââ¬Ã¾itis" = your mother (but it's sort of a pun thingy).
  21. I'd dare to claim that majority of lightning strikes never hit the ground but rather another part of the sky. About the image. NO..bad boy...NO!! Nad, you really should get your eyes checked since the cloud image is bad bad bad. It has got pixels the size of the mountain. Horrible quality versus the a bit over sharp ground. On top of that the cut out is very pixelish. Forgot to AA? It's almost decent when you scroll down enough to cover the higher lightning stuff but as a whole it's like a concept drawing of something that might look good if well executed. I'm afraid. I have really liked a few of your landscapes, but I must say this is below you. PS Something very postive about it though!!! The "bump" map is looking rather realistic! Good job on that....seriously!
  22. Heh, what a way to get semi-inactive egomaniacs to post. ME me me!! why not me?!?1 Come on MEEEEE!
  23. How2PK: That's just rude. Thanks for info nad. Do you happen to know any world generating programs (aside from the one inside terragen) for macs? I'd really like to learn to do some landscapes. Even if it only is playing with sliders.
  24. Just one rather off topic question: Does anyone do their "bump maps" manually? Like in Photoshop? Or does everyone use some world generator? Oh one more thing.. there's an ÃÆÃâÃâüber sharp blotch in the water a bit left from the bottom mid.
  25. That is indeed fabulous. The drawing part of it. The shading is rather basic. Amazing work anyway. But please remove the dropshadows or I'll be forced to eat my pet gerbil
