Behind the Scenes: July
They haven't said it anywhere but its a safe assumption: RS3 adds new features - New features require being coded in to the engine. RS3 optimises stuff - Optimising requires back end alterations. An entirely new iteration of the game being coded independently of the ever changing current - Perfect opportunity to do a spring clean by weeding out duplicated codes and putting newer tech at the very heart of the engine. NIS does things the current game is no where near - NIS is in Java needs new stuff. Quests and other content been held off to make use of the rs3 engine - since Java is not disappearing there is no reason to hold them back unless the rs3 java engine can do things the rs2 engine cannot. All in all it just makes sense to re-write the java engine as a matter of house keeping when doing such a big overhaul and as I mentioned the performance difference between live and NIS on my system is so great it is indicative that the NIS engine is substantially different from the live one, particularly in terms of how it is rendering graphics as it can do higher settings with less issue.

Skills Pointless?
LoL doesn't have that issue because it is a fundamentally different game. LoL literally has 1 dimension of what the gameplay is (fighting). LoL doesn't have long-term progress as such, the major progress is levelling and buying items in each round. Playing LoL you are always going to start as equal to everyone and progress at roughly the same pass through the round and can therefore react to what others are doing on a live basis. Playing LoL you have different skills that you are locked in to for the game. There is limited funds you can get to upgrade. The summation being in any given game there's people you can go toe to toe with, there's people you just can't deal with and there's people you annihilate. And it varies from game to game due to the interplay of different characters and the nuances of item routes chosen. Playing Runescape thousands have already been there done that, there is a huge array of different things to do with no one central aim, everyone is at different stages and everyone is locked in to the exact same skill set. You can range or mage or melee you can use your prayers and your foods and your potions; there is no way a character can be fundamentally better than you because you have it all and it is designed with you having it all in mind. Equally no equipment limitations exist really as money is infinite.

Skills Pointless?
^Because side growth is MUCH harder to do. PoP armours being tank vs Nex Offence is meant to be side growth; but PoP is all but useless as Nex is better. Potatoes were meant to be side growth to fish, but are all but useless as fish are faster to get and use. Farming was meant to be a side growth way of getting many cooking supplies, but much of that is redundant as its still faster to grab potatoes or onions or w/e from the pre-grown fields.

Behind the Scenes: July
^I didn't see that but I always assumed the 'needs html5' was less a literal statement and more a simplification of 'needs the new tech that the rs3 engine rewrite entails which includes html5, nis and an updated java engine' After all there is quite obviously gonna be a java engine re-write to match the new html5 engine and you can already see it: Live game on my macbook - 15 FPS low-mid settings quite laggy in many places. NIS on my macbook - max settings 20-25fps runs smoothly all over the world. Certainly some lag will be to do with players, but the difference is so big that something BTS has certainly changed.

Behind the Scenes: July
Doubt it. 1) We haven't had an outright RS3 beta yet. 2) They said several times Divination will be out a week or 2 after RS3. 3) The quest isn't even this week; Vorago is. The BTS Vid for the quest is out on friday aka the quest is next week. Edit: On the other hand having thought more I can see where you are coming from: 1) They said all the quests in dev will be out after RS3 2) They said Vorago 'needs' html5 3) They said Vorago is likely to be out 'midweek' due to an unrelated engine thing Now in Rs terms midweek would probably mean weds, seeing as 'early next week' always refers to the usual mon/tues upate windows. If it was out weds it would coincide with the big RS3 announcement.

Behind the Scenes: July
If the 'heals 10% more than other foods at level' holds true comparing to fish the 84 item ought to be close to rocktails. lvl 82 sea turtle 1640 > 1804 lvl 88 Caveifhs 1760 > 1936 Rockies being 1860 there's room for it to be equal or a little better in there. Sidebar: I think I need a medal for that typo of 'fish.' Not a single letter in the correct place.

Behind the Scenes: July
I wouldn't write it off yet. They have a 'big' Rs3 announcement coming on wednesday. The only 2 things they really have left to possibly announced are: Complete rs3 beta (eg merging html5 and nis) and Release date And somehow I don't think the betas merging are worthy of a stand alone pre-warned about news item.

Behind the Scenes: July
Anyways, just hoping Bacon has a higher healing value than Rocktails. That would just be the best thing ever. Other than that, after a month of nerfs and almost non-updates (yes I count Ascension dungeon and Triskellion as very poor updates - the rate at which Asc bows come into game is too damn slow, hardly anyone bothers with that anymore so they've sat at around 230m for the past 2 weeks. And Triskellion is almost too rare to specifically hunt for) it's disappointing to see yet another month as a let down. I just hope to God that July 5th brings some good news... But I highly doubt it. Ah well, back to getting completionist reqs. =D> :XD:

Behind the Scenes: July
Felt a little meh when reading this, I mean there are only two actual major content pieces listed so not a lot to get excited about (especially as someone who isn't huge on pvm so odds are Vorage won't concerned me until at least 2015) Hopefully they RS3 announced on weds is something to be excited for, given the gaping holes in content and their estimate of July we can always hope we got Vorage , quest, off week, rs 3.

Skills Pointless?
I don't agree with the notion that all skilling skills are useless. Some certainly have always been rather pointless, others have simply become slightly redundant due to lack of profitability through game changes and need to be re-addressed. To give some examples: Firemaking - always been rather pointless Mining & Smithing - serve a very finite purpose, their core issue lies in the fact that their level spread renders the produce they give obsolete to most users well before they get there. A few simple adjustments and additions of new high end things could fairly easily fix things. Fishing & Cooking - May seem redundant to some who just buy all their food, but where do you think it all comes from? There aren't a huge amount of food droppers out there. Runecrafting - Had quite a large use but EoC has rendered it mostly useless, could be fixed by, as others have suggested, making it the 'magic armouring' skill much like craft > range and smith > melee. Jagex just really needs to get off their butts and do some more overhauls, most of the skills aren't too far off of being useful they just need that fresh breath of life a rethink can offer

The Lore says in his grief over the lose of Glarial he traveled to their home under the falls sealed himself in a room and buried himself in there. We discover this tomb in the Waterfall Quest. So whilst we lack 100% finite look here is his corpse proof the fact he buried himself and we found the tomb heavily imply he is dead.

Future Update Discussions
There are a lot of living elves who could show up, equally there are plenty of dead elves who could turn up. It doesn't have to be the 'celebrity' a likely candidate for a dead elf imo would be the ones we saw a glimpse of in Meeting History or the dead guy from Within the Light perhaps. Or could just be some arbitrary dead elf that we come across, no need for it to be someone of significance.

Future Update Discussions
Doubt it. He's been dead for a long long long long long long long time and what point would there be in talking to him in a quest specifically about Death? It'd make sense to see his ghost or spirit in the elf series, but why in a standalone death-centric quest?

Future Update Discussions
I'm not talking about arbitary "you can only come in with x number of people" things that literally force you. I am simply saying I don't see some peoples gripe with it being 'forced' as long as it is just a genuine battle mechanic that happens to make it impossible to do. The way KQ or KBD at one time was impossible to do solo due to limitations of our powers. If it's just part of the battle then it's only forced by the limits of our abilities thus far and what's wrong with that? Should every single boss be soloable at the gear we have at the time it comes out? Would that not be some what boring? Is it not MORE interesting when they spend some time as a beast that is quite challenging and only through the years of progress with new gear and food and skills and such like become rather easy? Even if said difficulty is 'forced' simply because the boss has battle mechanics that make it impossible to overcome.

Future Update Discussions
The thing about the 'forcing' teams thing: No matter what they do if it require a team to defeat it, it has been forced, so I don't see the issue. I mean of something like WoW or w/e the insane hits that mean you need a team with support units to keep you going is 'forced' by sheer brute strength. Conversely soloing bosses Jagex intended to be team affairs are equally forced by utilising the sheer power we have to us to overcome the damage etc. I don't really see that it matters, be it the player doing something or Jagex doing something by mechanic tricks it is being forced to work.

Assorted questions on EoC
Nope no penalty for wearing steadfasts whilst maging. The only 'out of place' thing is being melee class they will give mainly ranged def opposed to the melee defence ragefires would offer.
-
Assorted questions on EoC
1) Body, Legs and Shield slots carry accuracy reductions for wrong style (eg mage item when using melee). Head, hands, feet do not carry this penalty. Also it is an ACCURACY penalty not a damage penalty, but of course an accuracy penalty will still hurt your DPS As for how defence works (someone could probably give more accurate numbers but this will cover the theory at least) An item's 'defence' stat it given completely to the style it is strong too. (So Mage armours defence stat goes 100% to melee) Around 2/3 of the stat are then given to matching style (so to mage for mage armour) And only about 1/3 to the weak style (so ranged) So a Mage item with say 100 defence would give roughly: 100 Melee Def 66 Mage Def 33 Ranged Def A range one would go: 100 Mage Def 66 Range Def 33 Melee Def Basically you just want to ensure body, legs and shield match your attack. The rest you can play with depending on what you are fighting. 2) Shield is pretty much entirely useless to my knowledge, perhaps a few tanking things in bosses like KK and Nex, but thats about it. As for 2h vs DW they are pretty much equal though I believe (according to meta gamer folks) DW abilities give slightly better DPS. 3) If you look at ancient spells they have been given elements. They should be reverted to their original names soon, but the tooltips and runes shown the elements. Smoke/Gale - Air. Shadow/Rock - Earth. Blood/Bloodfire - Fire. Ice - Water. 4) I may have this back to front but to my understanding all just spreads evenly between all 3 classes. Where as Hybrid will actively lower your highest values and raise your lowest values to move towards balance. The later two I don't think I can really answer too well so I'll leave them be.

11-Dec-2012 - Player-Owned Ports
I just do vamp for the moneys since I don't really care about using scrims. They don't seem worth it for slayer and I'm not much of a pvmer.

how many warning points do you have?
I think anyone who is aware of my historic behaviour from like 04-06ish will be surprised to know I only actually have 3 points, though I do have 5 notes. And of my 3 points 1 was just a sig/ava violation where I accidentally posted my new sig without removing the old one without noticing so it was too big for like half a day. I think the most interesting one in my list, which didn't earn me a point, was a HA thread where I did not respond to the OP's original question because I was questioning his desire to find means to get Runescape to load opposed to find a way to deal with the fact he was homeless.

^I'm sure you are trying to be funny/make a point but I can't for the life of me follow it. Why exactly would it 'not count for solo' because player 5 teled? Especially given the scenario that team gets you past the 50k then teles being 'solo' that bruno suggested. You'd WANT player 2-5 to tele and leave Woox alone to get the 'solo'
-
Future Update Discussions
I think it's gotta be that or that there is some kind of skilling stuff to setup around the cave (either one time only or everytime) that weakens him and if not setup you get the 50k hit. Would also be a plausible way to enforce teams if it was every time and say there was 5 things to be done that had ~10-20 travel time between them but all 5 had to be done within ~30 seconds
-
Future Update Discussions
The only reason bosses thus far have had solo means found is because quite simply they have enough weaknesses and enough ways to avoid/counter things to make it plausible. Though (if I'm not mistaken) KK is duo at best since they patched it, after letting Woox get his endorsed fame of soloing it. I wouldn't be surprised if there's some obscure glitch that lets Woox solo this guy, with jmods praising him for it before immediately closing the loophole.

It sounds interesting that his mechanics change week to week, you can jump on him among other things and he scales his power for larger teams.

Most will buy on GE eventually, just much much higher than the market value. Got experience of this myself since I'm slowly working to fill treasure chest done like 1/2 of Level 1 atm.

Well as things currently stand in-game prior to this we knew he could be accessed there and it was a possible path in, but this would imply he is currently there and not awake. Which is new info or a step forward, even if not an earth shattering revelation of something unexpected.
