  1. You can't get div xp from spins. Nice theory, though. I thought the cynicism made it extra smart. I didn't say you could yet anywhere in my post. Reading things more carefully avoids looking stupid. Only for the first few weeks. Most of the recent maxers have never trained a skill anywhere close to this slow, so as soon as the ban on sof is released, the metaphorical dam will burst ;)
  2. The speed of the skill is perfect. Although I doubt Jagex did this for balance purposes - they probably just wanted to encourage people to buy spins. I would have liked a little more variation in training methods however, as well as some high apm high reward methods which aren't bug abuse.
  3. In all likelihood I won't train it at all. I'll still be interested to see who is first to 99 - personally I think it'll be someone relatively unknown, probably a new maxer/comp who is still enthusiastic about RS. The majority of the front page don't give enough of a [bleep] to compete at that level anymore.
  4. Believe it or not, discussions sometimes veer from the precise wording in the thread title.
  5. Bots have returned to the live game - RDI red dragons being one of the first areas. The price of gold has remained constant for the past 4-6 weeks too - this is strongly linked to the quantity of bots (the price started rising hours after botwatch's first successful bot wave). This means that there must a consistent supply of goldfarming bots somewhere on the live game. The Old school:EoC player ratio has been just under 1:2 for the past couple of months, OSRS appears to have 'reached its level' in terms of steady population.
  6. In stream, Mod Mark confirmed that divination would be slower than fishing - and I assume he doesn't mean slower than C2 either, I guess he meant more 'traditional' fishing methods. Probably looking in the region of 50-80k xp/hr for it.
  7. Clicked through all of those. Was totally worth it.
  8. I wish DIY gameplay had been more encouraged than it actually is. I think I actually felt more accomplished when I made my first set of iron armour from scratch than when I first bought all the Nex sets. It's just you can't really get anywhere with the DIY model unless you're willing to put a hell of a lot more time into the game. And as Pingouin says, there's the scaling issue - generally speaking the gathering and production skills required disproportionately high levels compared to the relevant combat stats. If a more DIY style of play had been encouraged from the start, I think that would have lead to a healthier game - it would make gp less relevant, which would have made several things which were negative to the game less of an issue.
  9. He uses those statements as a reason to disregard everything in this thread though. As in, here. "There's no need to back it up, this entire thread is backing up my thoughts on the subject." His closing sentence tells you everything you need to know: "You're right, these are all entirely factual and not subjective opinions at all. Seen and heard it all before." He is simply dismissing what people have said, either because he didn't read what people have said or because he can't argue against what people actually said and so needs to straw man everything to such an extent. It's really quite rude to the people who put time into their posts - on both sides - when he clearly has either not read, or not bothered to comprehend, what those people wrote.
  10. The only baseless conjecture and opinion construed as fact that I've seen so far in this thread is your post - everyone else on both sides is at least explaining their observations instead of making generic comments with nothing to back them up. Mmmk. There's no need to back it up, this entire thread is backing up my thoughts on the subject. ITT: "Mod Mark is responsible for Runescape turning to shit!" "Runescape is dying guys, we need to make sure you know this because you may not know!" "EoC can be classed objectively as a pile of shit because I and many others think it is!" "PvP is all that matters and now that sucks this game is done!" "I'm not willing to change so why should other people still enjoy Rs if I can't!" ------- You're right, these are all entirely factual and not subjective opinions at all. Seen and heard it all before. I am a little confused here. Did you actually just complain about baseless arguments, then proceed to make up a load of statements with minimal relevance to the original points because they'd be easier to argue against? I assume you must have made a mistake there, as I don't think it's possible to be so hypocritical! You even state "There's no need to back it up" about your opinion - you are aware this makes you such a precise example of baseless conjecture and the like that it literally wouldn't be possible for me to find a better one?

  12. The October 2011 bot nuke was, for a brief period of time, 100% successful in preventing bots from working at all, not just banning them as soon as they logged in. So there is a point in time where we can draw valid comparisons of player numbers from. The concurrent playercount was significantly higher at that time than it is now. There are 34K people on the live game at the time of this post - the player counter on the live site does include 07 players, which you can easily check by going to the lobby and adding up the world populations on EOC. During the 2011 bot nuke the player count didn't drop this low even around 8-9am GMT, which is usually the time when RS is least active. There are several reasons for this drop in actual players of course - for one, approximately 1/3 of the playerbase prefers a 6 year old version of the game. If you include the 07 players there are 48K people online, which is a slightly healthier but still disappointing number. They've also made a number of big changes to the way the game is played - whether you believe they were necessary or not, regular MTX updates, a reduced focus on new content and instead a focus on reworking existing gameplay e.g. the EoC - marked significant changes to the way the game is played and it is understandable that these changes would drive some players away. It is too early to tell if RS3 will bring more players in, so you can't deem it a failure in that regard just yet. Runescape is more financially successful than ever before, but the game itself is losing members. The whole "people never quit RS" thing was an example of the remarkable brand loyalty most RS players had - how Jagex has managed to erode that brand loyalty so efficiently probably makes for an interesting sociology study. There is also the issue with the MTX model. The way Jagex has introduced MTX with the SoF is not sustainable long term. Eventually, players will become jaded to the current set of RWT rewards, and will require more and more overpowered MTX to entice them to spend their money. We have already seen this begin with the slayer promotion, where Jagex made highly valuable xp more common on the SoF, and the low point so far, the prismatic promotion. Eventually even that will not be sufficient to get people to spend their money, and even more OP promotions will be required. And since Jagex has invested so much money into their infrastructure, with the large expansions to the team and what not, they can't fall back on the subscriber model - it is not profitable enough any more. Their only real option in times to come will be full steam ahead with the more and more OP MTX. The game might bleed more and more members, but so long as their are spin buyers and the like still around, I doubt RS will ever 'die' completely ;p
  13. Forsberg's slayer month has been absolutely insane, considering it was without KK xp rates and during/after the 2 barrage nerfs.
  14. They only took 200m xp off him? Got off lightly if you ask me.
  15. Richard has 200m slay, gz to him.
  16. I don't get why they're replacing an old (classic) quest with an up-to-date one. I suppose the reason is likely to be “quality control” – and it’s probably premature of me to judge at this point, but why not simply make it an entire new quest and let us enjoy both of them? Not that I mind, really – I’ve just always enjoyed doing quests and would rather see “more” of them than “less”, as it were … I recently created a new account. Replayed Black Knights Fortress....it wasn't good. Its short, extremely light on lore, storywise its bare-bones, and takes maybe 5 minutes if you already have the items. I did it maybe 2 weeks ago on 07, and I thought it was a fun quest. There is quite a lot of old Jagex humour in there.
  17. What if he reaches 200m in all the other skills before they release such an update. Perhaps the skill will be 'complete' on release.
  18. BoL isn't a grindfest, have you seen how AFK it is? Divination should be far more grindy than that. Doesn't matter how AFK it is, it's like saying mining/fishing aren't grindy Depends how you train them. How grindy something is, is a combination of the xp/hr and afkability to me. Mining isn't a grindy skill to me anymore, due to either warbands making it 1800k xp/hr, or training it normally but with eoc making it incredibly AFK. Equally I wouldn't view rocktail fishing as exactly grindy, C2 probably is.

  20. I hope divination isn't too fast a skill. New quest is always nice, shame they are replacing a classic though.
  21. People often require millions of broad arrow supplies, so the limit is actually still a massive pain in the ass.
  22. So I currently have greater tracker (hunter) and greater five fingered discount (thieving). Which of the two should I prioritize upgrading first? i.e. which one improves overall productivity whilst training that skill the most?
