Abortion: Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA)
That's a very naive attitude. Many children are born into abusive families with very little hope for a better life.

overrated and unfunny comedians
Very much agree, I've seen two Dara O'Briain stand up DVD's and his audience interaction is just fantastic. He's got such a quick wit. I think it's often a real test of comedic ability to see how comics can handle new situations night on night. For this I think Russell Brand and Dara O'Briain come out very well, the amount of audience interaction makes every show very unique and often the DVD's don't reflect the best of them.

Religious Politics
I think religion and governance are best kept at arms length, and for this reason I think the US Constitution has got it exactly right (although in practice relgious lobbyists have enormous influence in Washington).

Abortion: Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA)
You can't compare the penal system or teachers to medicine and doctors. Doctors have a duty to their patients, to do what's medically best for them. In some cases young women are in no fit state emotionally or physically to have a child. And besides, we're not just talking about doctors refusing abortions, this is about whole hospitals closing because of one act being passed (so I understand).

Abortion: Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA)
It says a lot for the motives of Catholic hospitals if they threaten to close because they disagree with the ethics of an act. Medicine isn't and should never be tarnished by religious ideals, it's about doing what's best for your patients. I'm sure many practicing doctors in other hospitals occasionally disagree with the ethics of a treatment, but it's not up to them to decide what's morally best for the patient.

Fashion & Men
I like wearing semi-formal clothes (slacks, tie, shirt, shoes). I just don't like wearing the jacket. Yeah, well it's sort of love-hate thing really. I like suits because of the way they make me look and feel, being of an average build I fit them quite well. But I hate the idea of having to wear them to be taken seriously in a job. I own three suits, one is a very dark navy blue with a subtle pinstripe. It fits me well, but is old and so getting horribly shiny and thin. The second is solid black, but doesn't fit me particularly well and isn't comfortable. I shouldn't have bought it. The third is my favourite, a slightly lighter navy blue with a very subtle pinstripe. Fits and wears like a dream. I normally wear white or pale blue shirts. I have a pale pink one and a couple of stripey ones, but don't wear them that often. Fairly conservative taste really. Around the house it's just jeans and t-shirts or long sleeve tops. I don't care for brands.

Interviews!
Practicing for both kinds, and maybe a job interview. Hmmm... A job interview in the medical profession.... I bet it's easier then a job interview at a random big corporate business. :P I only have experience with academic interviews. At those, they don't really care how you dress (as long as you're not sloppy), they just want to see how you think. Be interested in whatever they ask you and tell you. Don't worry about the right answer, and instead focus on explaining your reasoning and thinking. Basically just think out loud. Pause before you speak (don't jump in) and state any reservations you have.

Political Correctness
A phrase which we seem to get a lot of in Britain is "it's political correctness gone mad!" I hate this as much as some of the political correctness itself, much of it made up by low quality tabloids to sell papers to disgruntled old people anyway.

Interviews!
Are these academic interviews? Or ones designed to test your "all-roundedness" ?

My brother has no taste in music
Stupid thread. Music taste is subjective, compromise or just agree to disagree. There's not much we can do. Locked.

overrated and unfunny comedians
Yeah, Lee Evans seems to be very overrated. I also don't think Frankie Boyle deserves the hero worship style status he seems to get on Mock the Week. Yes, he has a great dark sense of humour, but his standup isn't particularly entertaining. Just lots of one-liners, and only a few of them funnily shocking. I find Russell Howard funny but think he needs to get some new material.

Space, and the mysterys behind it
I'm probably going to do my physics dissertation on the shape of the Universe, whether or not it's open or closed etc. I think at the moment the evidence points towards it being infinitely flat, and not spherical or closed.
