Photographic Proof of a Black Hole?
Actually, trust me on this one. It's extremely tricky to build equipment sensitive enough to do it but it is possible to detect the gravitational waves radiated by a black hole when it collapses in the first place (a black hole has no hair, so any deformities in the stars surface would be radiated away as gravitational waves, ripples of spacetime) or when two black holes merge. I hate arrogance, especially patronising arrogance. That's still highly debated, Roger Penrose provided a fairly reasonable proof that a singularity would always be within an event horizon. See 'cosmic censorship hypothesis' for more details.

Airplane on a treadmill
I think you are being sarcastic, but at the end there it kind of sounds like you weren't. Ignore this next part if you were being sarcastic. A person walking forward on a treadmill doesn't go anywhere, just like if you were driving a car on a treadmill, it wouldn't go anywhere. Airplanes are different though, their jets are their means of movement. The jets don't move with relation to the ground, they move with relation to the air. Yeeeea...And a plane moving on a treadmill still has no air going through its turbines...Go run on a treadmill once and see how much wind you feel in your hair...None? Thought so. You guys are all thinking WAY too far into it. What you're not thinking about is the simple thing here...The plane is on a treadmill. The plane is not moving, the ground is. You're saying that the plane can then, once the ground reaches enough speed, take off. So you're saying that the plane can go from a dead stop with no forward momentum at all, no lift at all, nothing, and suddenly take off, forward, and fly away...All because the ground was moving at a speed relative to what that plane would need to take off. I still stand by calling you guys stupid, because this isn't even a problem. If phycisists are actually debating this, then the half of them debating FOR it need their degree's stripped away, because I haven't even gone to college or taken a physics class and even I realize that everything you guys are saying is completely irrelevant. The wheels are irrelevant. The wings are irrelevant. The turbine jet engines...All of it, completely irrelevant, because the plane has NO forward momentum, no lift...Nothing. You guys do realize, then, that you're saying that this plane can accelerate from 0 mph to 300 some mph in less than a second, too, right? It would have to in order to stay aflight. Even if it could get off the ground for a milisecond using this method (it couldn't) it would then have to accelerate to that speed in less than a second to stay aflight, and mind you, it still has no thrust, lift, forward momentum, etc. I don't mean to sound like a total jerk or like I'm smarter than everyone, but seriously...Anyone further disputing what I'm saying obviously doesn't have a very basic grasp on reality, let alone any actual science. It's a hypothetical very long treadmill, which you could run along. Get it now?

Airplane on a treadmill
No. We're saying that the treadmill matching the speed of the wheels is irrelevant, since the drive from the jets isn't going ot the wheels and is simply sucking in air and dumping it out the wheels are almost irrelevant, they just spin faster as the plane begins to accelerate and eventually take off. But thanks for calling us mentally disabled, you should really watch that arrogance of yours.

Photographic Proof of a Black Hole?
*cough*gravitational-wave-detectors*cough* Form of X-Ray pl0x? No, a completely different thing. Nothing to do with the electromagnetic spectrum. Sigh...I will say it again, but with meaning so you "Simple-tons" can understand. If you were in the range of our telescope being able to look at were a black hole is you wouldn't see anything. One you and every one around you would be split down into atoms, and two if we had telescopes that could reach that far (From here) you still wouldn't see anything. A black hole is has so much mass and gravitional pull that anything in about 5M light years around it is all a stream of atoms going at the black hole. Lets say you could live though being split apart by atoms and live though 5M years of that...If you were facing the black hole on the earth and you'd see everything around you starting to what looks like viporize, but what really is happening is everything is getting split down into atoms. Lets say a Million light years went by and you are a little atom looking around. You'd see googles of atoms in a line in front and in back of you as far as the eye can see. All the atoms are heading twords the black hole. Now the only way to see the outline of it would there have to be a HUGE galexy 'in back' of the black hole that isn't getting ripped apart by atoms. Then in theory you'd see the out line of it but a black hole is huge about 3 billion time bigger then our sun...now the sun is 100 times bigger then earth, meaning a black hole is around 100 billion times bigger then earth. If you don't know what 100 billion time bigger would look like, A base ball would be earth (compaired to black hole) and the earth would be the black hole. Thats about 100 bilion times bigger. You're such an arrogant, patronising, but more importantly incorrect idiot I don't know where to start. Pretty much all of your information about black holes is incorrect, I don't know where you got it from. In fact, there isn't one correct piece of data in there at all.

Adrenaline Rush!!
Funnily enough today, before my French AS level oral exam. I'm not a nervous speaker, but when someone is asking you questions like "what does it mean to be young?" and "what do you think you can do to get young people engaged in politics" in French it gives you quite a rush trying to keep on top of the situation.

Photographic Proof of a Black Hole?
Sorry, I meant better X-ray telescopes, or even visual light telescopes which might be able to pinpoint the event horizon based on matter falling into them.

How 2 worlds become one.
I cant start a fight in the middle of a supermarket :) I think I will ask him: What did that girl look like? Blonde hair? This? That? Yes? Well, thats my sister. -.- Shove him in the frozen food cupboards :P Seriously though, your idea sounds like a good one.

Bad class experiences?
Although I really like the guy, my biology teacher insists on teaching us the A level syllabus in depth after skimming over the GCSE stuff. I find it interesting, but sometimes think it's a little bit pointless. My history teacher is also a bit old fashioned, he'll just make us take notes from a textbook then be in and out of the classroom all lesson. He's good when he properly teaches us though. Apart from that my teachers are all great.

Photographic Proof of a Black Hole?
Has it not occurred to you that maybe our telescopes just aren't powerful enough? Read my other posts on this topic before accusing me of something I've already said. Mm'kay? No, not mm'kay. I've read your other posts (they're hard to miss) and I still don't think it's occurred to you that if you were close enough to a black hole it could be possible to observe the event horizon (not the singularity). But of course, you've done physics at uni so you must be right, sorry for questioning you.

Fate: Fact or False?
Is it not consistent for you, a materialist, to completely deny free will? If you are a materialist, would you not believe that our thoughts and actions are completely predetermined by other material entities? I know the Heisenburg uncertainty principle would make our actions impossible to predict, but it doesn't change the fact that we have no control over them? That's a very interesting question, and i'm honestly not sure what the answer is or will be. At the moment though, I believe consciousness has an important part to play in our free will, and although some people think true AI is ever closer, i'm leaning towards the fact that there is something in our minds which transcends computational processes, and which we cannot explain with present day science. That's why we have genuine free will about our own decisions, although we cannot say for certain whether or not the Universe will follow.

Fate: Fact or False?
I think that we cannot predict with any abolsute certainty about what will really happen in the next five minutes, so the idea that our lives are already planned out ahead of us it to me, absurd.

Post Your Superstitions and Strange Coincidences Here!
Ah, Dawkins did a good explanation of it in that book I mentioned under a chapter about coincidences, and how a lot of them are more likely than we might first expect.

Airplane on a treadmill
But if the treadmill matches it's speed, it won't be going forward. Therefore, the wings will not be exerted Bernoulli force, and lift can not happen. The jets only make the craft move forward, they do jack squat in regards to actually making it fly. There is no power going to the wheels though, the thrust comes from jet engines spewing air out of the back. If you had a rocket on a treadmill with wheels, the rocket would move forward irrelevant of the speed of the treadmill, and if that rocket had wings it would fly.
