  1. Well, that's less happy news. Don't have enough to balance the trade, unfortunately. I guess I'll just sit on it for the time being and keep an ear to the ground for good deals.
  2. Well, that's all very happy news. Upgrading the purple is probably my best bet investment-wise, no doubt, although I have my reservations because I like the color. (Silly, I know.) Say I wanted to parlay my disk into an Elysian spirit shield plus whatever else I could get for it, is that feasible? I'm not sure how I'd accomplish it, what with these trade limits they have now. Regardless, thanks for the assistance.
  3. Alright, so I've got a purple party hat and a disk of returning from Back In The Day, and I want to turn the disk into cash. (The party hat I'm keeping; I think it looks fabulous on me.) All this talk of junk trading and street prices and such means very little to me, as I haven't played more than a few days intermittently in the last couple of years. How do I go about selling it? Am I ripping myself off if I just stick it on the GE? Will anyone actually buy it on the GE?
  4. That's not a good analogy, because getting your wallet stolen isn't a voluntary action on your part. Nobody can force you to buy a Tyras helm. A better analogy would be if some sleazy dude in an alley offered to sell you a fake Rolex for $300, which I don't really have a problem with. Honestly, if you're dumb enough to fork over money for an item without having any idea what it is or what it does, you don't deserve to have that money.
  5. Because the game isn't built to support unneccessary stuff like this. We know from info dumps people have made that each item is a separate entry in some sort of database- there's not just one Guthan's Spear, for example, there's an entry for a Guthan's Spear, a Guthan's Spear 100, Guthan's Spear 75, Guthan's Spear 50, Guthan's Spear 25, and a broken one. And so forth for the rest of Guthan's set, and so forth for the rest of every other barrows set. Now extrapolate that to every other item in the game, and think about what you'd need to do to implement something like this. You would need to have an item entry for every possible combination of every potion and every single dose level that you could come up with, and you don't have to be a mathematical genius to realize that this is a ludicrously huge number, well past the billions. Not to mention that this is entirely unneeded. Potions work fine as it is. What are you going to do with a potion that's half super strength and half prayer? It's not going to convey any great advantage, other than maybe saving one inventory space, and you'd need twice as many doses to get the same effect anyway. You have absolutely no idea of what you're talking about. You don't even have the vaguest concept. Quests are probably the single easiest thing to implement- all the code for NPC interaction is already written. Plunk down some new NPCs that tell the player to go here and fetch item X, and you've got yourself a quest. Maybe add some new land- the system for which is already implemented- or new items- the system for which is also already implemented. Implementing something like this, on the other hand, would be a logistical nightmare and would almost certainly require scrapping and rewriting probably half the code base- not to mention not being useful.
  6. Don't buy the hype; knights are better.
  7. Well, do you want the fast way or the cheap way? The fast ways are easy: buy steel, buy irits, and buy ess and have people run whatever you can craft for you. I believe there's a world out there where people run airs 24/7 and world 66 is always great EXP if you can craft laws, since there's always a throng there. That gets expensive, though, since they expect you to give them 27 laws and 27 noted ess. Don't know how the air runners work. The cheap ways aren't so easy. You'll have to mine your own ores and coal if you don't want to spend a lot of money, no way around that. And it's generally a sunken investment; smithing hasn't been a good moneymaker in years. For herblore you can farm or kill chaos druids: you may even be able to turn a profit if you buy a dozen or so ranarr seeds and turn them into prayer pots. (Easy snape grass collecting on Waterbirth Island. Lute to Relekka, grab a full inventory, glory to a bank, then lute back.) Runecrafting... well, if you don't want to use runners, your next best option is the abyss. Make sure you have a full complement of whatever pouches you can use.
  8. Some of the better ways are: [*:3mhtcq7p]High alching piles of something semi-valuable, such as yew or magic longbows. [*:3mhtcq7p]Crumble Undead-ing zombies under the mage guild. Bring a slayer staff for auto-casting! [*:3mhtcq7p]If you have a stack of laws you can burn through, grab an air staff and cast Camelot Teleport a bunch of times. [*:3mhtcq7p]If you have a surfeit of cosmics, the Enchanters' Wonderland or whatever it's called at the mage training place north of the duel arena is good exp. [*:3mhtcq7p]I've heard good things about casting the curse spells on enemies repeatedly while in full rune (so your spells splash and you can keep doing it on the same one) For higher levels you can probably work the same stunt with soul runes and a Mud Staff.
  9. I'm not joking in the least. I read another forum that does this- if you make a stupid post, a one-word reply, or one riddled with spelling and grammatical errors, you're banned and that's that. That forum is a delight to read. You know why? There aren't any junk posts. There need to be more moderators here, and they need to be swift and merciless about cutting out spam posts and the people who make them. You may make these brilliant posts out of nothing but a sense of pure altruism, but you attempted to make the point that "good members watch as their post count increases with every positive contribution to a forum, and become a record of poisitive achievement." Short-term memory, eh? It's not very selfless to make posts with the purpose of pumping up your post count, regardless of the quality of these posts. You say that the guy who posts that is not an egotist? Okay, maybe I did phrase the original statement poorly, so let me have another go at it: Compared to almost every other person here, what I write is pure gold. Unneeded frippery. Aside from the mods probably not wanting to twiddle with the karma level of every crackpot who replies to a Help and Advice post, the more stuff like this they add the dumber the forum gets, honestly. I can't remember the name of it offhand, but there's some forum out there- I use the term loosely- wherein you get points for posting, and these points can be used to purchase imaginary baubles from a "store" of sorts, which can be displayed next to your name or in your profile. It's a slippery slope, I tell you- is this the kind of nonsense you want coming here?
  10. You don't need to verify that the person in question is a good and righteous individual by checking their postcount for every single reply you read. If you see a reply that consists, in full, of that god-awful smiley with the wagging finger, you're not going to hold judgement until you see whether the user has a post count of six or six thousand. You're going to immediately decide that they should be kicked in the teeth. Conversely, if someone posts a reasonable, well-thought out idea, you don't need to make sure that their post count is high enough before you accept it. Oh man, kitten has claws. You don't need to watch a number increase to record "poisitive" contribute to a forum, the contributions and discourse contained within should be your motivating factor. Even if you're making brilliant replies, if you're making brilliant replies to watch a number go up by one, you're not doing it for the right reason, and it's highly unlikely your replies are that brilliant in the first place. Thank you for taking the time to identify your sarcasm for me! However, sarcasm does not an argument make. You failed to identify why banning anyone who spams at all would be a bad idea, which I presume was the idea you were trying to express. I say it's a good idea because it would eliminate so much of the useless chaff you see in every thread. You say it's a bad idea because... ? (It is a mystery!) That doesn't mean it has to be tolerated. Who are you people that read a person's post then have to go look at their post count to decide if it's valid or not? I can honestly say I've never done that once. All you need to judge is the post. It's not hard to tell if it's a good post or not: common identifying marks of a good post are correct spelling and punctuation and well-thought out and efficiently expressed ideas. Big numbers, on the other hand, are not. Check the avatar, hombre. All the backup I need.
  11. Voted to get rid of post counts. You don't need to look at a number to tell if someone's a moron or not, you can tell by the quality of their posts. There's plenty of idiots kicking around here with counts in the high thousands. What kind of person enjoys looking at their post count steadily increasing? That's like enjoying kissing your sister. If you want to watch numbers go up, get out a calculator. Only press the "reply" button if you have an actual thought to contribute. If you need a number to tell you that you're better than other posters, you aren't. (As pointed out by my avatar.) I'm going to spin a little metaphor for you here. Consider that while a pound of gold and a pound of pig feces are the same volume, one is worth significantly more than the other. But if you put an equal weight of both on a scale, it will read the same. I, of course, consider my posts to be pure gold, and there's some other posters here that aren't half bad. There are, however, plenty of posters with scarily high post counts whose posts are generally useless and bereft of punctuation. There's no sense in comparing the two. Well, there's an easier way to solve that problem: anyone who does this should be banned. Instantly and without regard to any other factors. Worthless people that make worthless posts like this are never going to contribute anything useful to the forums, so why bother keeping them around? It's not impossible that some crazy joker who's made a thousand posts could suddenly go rogue and post something malicious. Better solutions: [*:390usq4w]Wait two minutes for some hapless guinea pig to go running in and try it himself - OR - [*:390usq4w]Spend the time to actually secure your computer, so you can't catch a keylogger just by trying to play a movie. Honestly, it doesn't take that much effort and it's certainly worth it.
  12. The people who are complaining about high skill requirements probably aren't the ones who hate easy quests. Every Runescape player doesn't share the same opinion.
  13. FLASHBLOCK Flashblock (available at http://flashblock.mozdev.org/) is probably the single most useful extension I've ever found. It prevents embedded flash movies from loading automatically, instead replacing them with a little button you can click on to let them play. For instance, take that god-awful screaming smiley ad Tip.it runs: I don't see it any more, because it's flash and Flashblock takes care of it!
  14. Okay, here's the first thing: I can almost guarantee you that you don't need a laptop, no matter what they tell you. Last year I don't think I had legitimate call to haul mine out in class once, and I'm majoring in software engineering. If you want to save some cash, you could get a much better desktop computer for much less money. That said, there's something to be said for being able to play RS while looking industrious in useless required liberal arts classes, so if you insist on getting a laptop, my reccomendation is Toshiba. Toshiba laptops are rocks, durability-wise. Dell, on the other hand, is absolute trash (they buy the cheapest parts they can and pass the savings on to you, as well as terrible computers) and Alienware is all well and good if you don't mind dropping ludicrous amounts of cash for a huge, fifteen-pound overheating brick of a computer (but it'll look awesome!) And I'm not even going to dignify the suggestion you get a Mac with a response. My reccomendation is still to get a real computer, though. You can upgrade those and they won't be essentially useless in 3-4 years.
  15. It doesn't. The eggs you get from nests don't actually do anything, at least not yet. Perhaps after a future update.
  16. If you want to give your computer a name and you're running some flavor of Windows, here's how to do it: [*:287dcvmh]Right click on "My Computer" on the desktop and select "Properties" [*:287dcvmh]Click on the "Computer Name" tab [*:287dcvmh]Click the "Change" button [*:287dcvmh]Put a name in the textbox and click OK. Note that this won't do a whole lot if you didn't change it in the first place; chances are the reason it's not showing up is because your ISP changed something at the local gateway. No. Don't worry about it. ZoneAlarm is more than enough.
  17. Individual, they only drop them one at a time and not every time. I think they drop junk like woodcutting axes too- Jagex probably just added them in to the droplist so they wouldn't become new rares.
  18. Firefox has a built in Google search bar. Everything else is just clutter. Anyway, the first thing you absolutely should do with a new install of Firefox is get Flashblock at http://flashblock.mozdev.org/. You know all those annoying flash ads, like that hideous one Tip.it has for the smileys that plays the annoying sound? Yeah, Flashblock turns all flash movies into a little button that won't play until you click on it, so you never see the ads and can easily see the stuff you actually want to see. It's the only extension I consider a must-have.
  19. The random event tree spirits can drop both unidentified toadflax and snapdragon.
  20. That's so logical, Never thought of that before. Why would nobody be able to buy them?
  21. I don't want to do any of that. I want to sit there and watch my numbers go up and the pile of gold in my bank account get bigger. If I wanted a story, I would read or play a game that was well-written; I don't remember slogging through any quest that was engaging, entertaining or otherwise kept me from just wanting to get it over with so I could get to whatever feature Jagex keeps you from using until you finish the quests. hurrrrr pixels I am so sick of people using this one word to express the concept that "lol everything in runescape is imaginary so people who play for skills/money/items/levels are dumb lol" Not only is it a stupid idea, it sails right past the concept of MMOGs (you oftentimes the "RP" dropped from the acronym these days, since you're right- nobody wants to RP anymore), the central idea of which is to make your character better in a quantifiable way.
  22. Lots of things would make the game easier. Stackable rune essence and a sword with +2,000 to strength would make the game easier, but that doesn't mean it's a good idea.
  23. Physical labor provides a base for the real-life economy, but you don't see a lot of people giving "mad props" to assembly-line refridgerator manufacturers as compared to captains of industry, now do you?
  24. Not to impugn how you choose to play the game, but there's nothing inherently superior about raising skills versus playing for money. A lot of people don't see the use of sinking time and effort into skills that you'll never be able to really get a profit out of. You can spend hours and hours of in-game play time getting to 99 smithing; but you're going to have to smith an inhuman amount of rune to make it worth your while. I don't see the sense in it, personally. So some chump made fun of you for some reason. Big deal. This is not an isolated incident. That is what three fourths of the Runescape community will do for any reason they can find. Grow thicker skin and move on with your life.
  25. No, it's not short-sighted at all. In fact, it's just the opposite, tiger. More tradeable drops would only afford the same opportunity to new players as older players had: the opportunity to sit on an investment and make a ton of cash. It's really only fair to give new players the same chance. Ok, so Jagex never intended them to be worth jaw-dropping amounts of cash. Who cares? It doesn't matter what their intention was. What their intention was is completely irrelevant. What matters is how things actually turned out.
