Hegemony Argument Thread
You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.

Yup, then we created Empire, and it turned out that comprehensive systems fail because people interpret things differently. So, the best plan so far is to have a comprehensive system which is controlled by the moderator, and no one else. The most comprehensive system is arbitration, and it benefits from not being caught up in complicated knots down the line, since the rules can change to straighten things out.

No, I work out roughly what should happen, using a ratio, then I add flavour, because the ratio approach means that throwing troops around wins wars....Like throwing money around wins research...like throwing population around gives massive armies...like throwing large numbers around makes science work. I have said it before, and I will say it again, Hegemony is based on arbitration, not on complicated systems that include every eventuality...we tried that, it didn't work...now we try this, see if it works, if it does then good, if not then we try something else.

This is why I was made Hegemony War Moderator....I had these cutting edge ideas almost a year ago... You, after having seen the idea in practice for at least six months, have just 'originated' it.

The research is done, so it is just a matter of creating the diagram so I can indicate the costs, so he can allocate the funds, so that I can work out how far Mars is, so I can calculate when it will arrive....basically.

Ok then, Solar System Map: It updates yearly, though, because I won't be doing that, I have created a picture of what that would look like: http://users.aber.ac.uk/lug9/hege/hegemony/sol.png Though, in actuality you don't ever need to look at the pictures, you can just ask...its there if you want to look at it. The outer planets are not included, since currently the Asteroid belt stops ships getting any further out (plus it would be at least 6 days from Jupiter, almost certainly more.) (Anyone particularly interested in it...distance is the number of pixals divided by 20, in years.)

If people wanted something, they generally did it regardless. My 'authority', as it were, was not established in any real way.

Turn off the screen? Shoot the computer? Upload a virus? ....point out it's lack of weapons or ability to move....The list is endless.

A pacistical pixal could have beat your hoard...provided the person controlling it was willing to spend 6 weeks incessantly arguing about how it would own your hoard with it's pacistical pixal

You can build as many as you like, for 25 billion each. The draw back is that someone can say 'I blow it up' and it blows up(as long as they have a planet/ship nearby.)

Oh please, V1 was always about repeating how awesome you were until everyone believed it. There was nothing certain or inevitable, except in people's minds.

Ok then, Mars map has been altered to fix artifacts problem.

Anywho. 25 billion for cheap ship. Biodome is 1.5 trillion on top. Don't need space tech to build a cheap ship, since it is just a scaled up version of the Apollo 11. They are one time vessels though. Sere, which Martian Colony? You are gonna need to circle the outpost on the map if you want to use it.

Tis true Ross, everything was controlled by the brain. Can't say that really makes a whole lot of difference....one big brain to replace lots of little ones. If we could go back, it would have been stressful to play, but entertaining to watch.

The newest Global Announcement
Firstly, apologises for disappearing for the last three days. The 6 hour journey back home turned into a two day journey after the car broke down on the M4 (A highway for the Americans amongst us). Followed by my computer's DNS(or something) failing...basically I was connected, but couldn't use MSN or the Internet....After playing for 6 hours with the darned thing I booted up Safari, which worked, magically, got instructructions and flushed the DNS(whatever the means)...and here we are. Anywho, I think the summery of everything that has been posted is that: Knowing the Admin is there and interested is the first step, but unless there is something to pull us all together, we will remain two or three groups, divided by our differing interests. However, this is their thread, so they set the 'rules' and if they say no off-topic posting then please respect the rules.

Sword of Stars is apparently very easy to Mod, I just haven't had the time to get to grips with the interface. The only draw back is that there are a limited number of ship designs...which arn't moddable

Its a bit hard not to be obvouis: Straight people...they can't help holding hands, cuddling, or that sort of stuff. Gay people are either flamboyant about everything, or show no interest in the opposite sex, and are thus obvious. Asexuals are similarly obvious because they show no interest in the opposite sex, though people don't tend to notice the same sex, so they blend in there. Bisexauls are obvious because they are always ready with a quip about something, baiting both sexes into asking them about their sexuality. Happily I am just about entirely oblivous to everything, anyway and am heavily of the opinion that the whole thing would take up far too much of my time, and offer such a small amount in the way of reward(remove sex from the rewards pile, and you are left with a good friend, which I have and requires very little maintaince). Thus Gay by design, Asexual by choice, Sensible by accident.
