  1. I call healer....preferably vampyric mutant healer... "I suck the life out of the enemy and send it into my enormace life sucking muscles!" Hehe, no, I think a cleric of some type, with the holy symbols, the holy water and the holy hand grenades will be enough. On an mildly unrelated note: https://crawl.develz.org/tavern/
  2. Your in a ship, cruising around the dungeons, armed with magic and disruptor rifles?
  3. As a note to anyone who is ever going to cook Corned Beef...Never add oil. The corned beef just acts like some sort of super absorbant sponge and the whole thing is just a really really really foul mix.
  4. Anywho. I am gonna start a new game after the 16th on two conditions: Condition 1: I get at least three people from the Tavern to agree what type of game they want. (Hegemony/Dungeoneering/Space seem the likely candidates but others are also fine) Condition 2: I am demanding that we get at least 3 people from outside the Tavern involved. I know Nex knows a roleplaying group that might provide us with some people. Good luck to everyone =)
  5. Right, got the excel version as well: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12603519/Europa%20Hegemonia.xls Not exactly in a rush though =P
  6. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12603519/Europa%20Hegemonia.ods It has taken several hours (exactly 7 to be precise), but the offical beta for Europa Hegemonia is finished. I have no idea who would run a game using this, but it is there. Instructions for use: Anything that is underlined may be altered without crashing the program. Anyone who has played EU3 should understand the other parts of it. Press F9 when you want a new battle to be rolled. Retech, if you could give it your best shot at powergaming (If you could fix any bugs you find that would also be awesome). Anywho, notes: It automatically corrects the (Killing) focus if all of the troops in one catagory are dead by distributing that focus between the other two, or the one remaining foci. It automatically removes destroyed groups from contributing to the battle Co-Efficent. However the Co-Efficent is increased slightly (Not enough to make not having troops of that type a good idea, but enough to not unbalance the game in favour of destroying the weakest stack first and thus cripple the enemy.) Automatically changes the names on all sheets and boxs if you change the underlined one. RMS is Relative Military Strength, the differential is the difference between them /1,000. I have no idea if it works, but it is there. (If people want to give out experience or something...or if the GM is asked for 'probability') A form of 'Attrition' exists, in that even if you destroy the enemy your force will still take Co-Efficent 3 damage per round remaining. GMs can ignore that and just terminate combat at that point. There is no strong reason to use any sheet other than the first, though you are free to do so. Be mindful that much of the information on other sheets is linked directly to the front page. Shock/Fire/Manuever are suggested names, they are, by no means, definative. Shock represents physical strength, Fire represents ranged strength and Manuever represents everything else. The three unit groups are meant as Low Cost-Low Damage/High Cost-High Damage/Support, though nothing demands that you follow those catagories. Programming more catagories would be foolishness to the nth degree. Battles are split into rounds (1 sheet) and Engagments (1 set of 6 rolls). Fiat and Mod are seperate and should almost always be decimal. Fiat is a full battle change, as in it will affect that side for the entire round. Mods are single roll changes. As such Fiat represents things like weather, terrain, or the element of suprise, where as mods represent more individual changes...say sabortage, recharge cycles or special abilities. Please keep in mind that adding these mods will be very tedious. GMs are encouraged to fiddle with the program before they start GMing as small changes yield large results. Please remember that you can add Unit Types, Generals and such to another file to 'save' them. Players are encouraged to fiddle with the program as fiddling with Focus can help you tip a battle in your favour and experimenting with Stats will give you an insight into how to develop from that point on. The Checksum exists to make sure that the Foci are balanced, it should be noted that you can use Foci that add up to more than 1, the Checksum exists only to make sure both sides are balanced and/or they are rewarded accordingly if XP is being handed out. If there are any suggestions let me know.
  7. Vain is spelt with an i, not an e... I am not overly fussed as we all make mistakes from time to time, but though I would point that out.
  8. Its a hurricane lamp: Yhe actual light bit (If you look at where the switch is and then go up) is the same, and the bottom bit (under the oil reservoir) is similar. As you know my internet is terrible and searching through 500 pictures at 10 pictures a minute would take ages. So I just grabbed a picture that was vaguely similar and assumed people would go 'Oh, he is talking about the top bit'
  9. Oh no, its has a glass underneath: The light is too bright for a photo to come out as anything but a white ball without the shade on, and its the middle of the night so dark is just as bad =p And no, both headphones and light are fine, just they weren't on charge during the night. On an unrelated note, I have perfected the art of cooking bacon bits...basically, you add herbs de provence and cook it in oil =D
  10. Well, last night I reached the point of being so tired I did something stupid, a relatively new experiance for me, so I took a photo: They are supposed to be on that little silver and gray thing behind it. On a more ranty note, I got a box of white chocolates. Had another box the year before...this year's one seems to have far less in...its been rather annoying that I have had one or two a week and its already almost empty. As to the Nex-Mather thing... I have no idea why Nex defined Mather that way, it seems to be an entirely innocous post. To be honest, Nex saying 'Lrn2shave' is probably more fitting this sterotype:
  11. Personally? Tell someone about it, arrange to call them/have them call you every 6/12/24 hours...whatever so that if you collapse at least the alarm will be raised. If it is that serious then don't worry, you are gonna die unless you go to the hospital right now, and maybe even then. If it isn't that serious then you won't die, so stop worrying.
  12. Well, congratulations and thanks for lasting as long as you did. I would ask everyone to say thanks to Wyvern if they enjoyed it
  13. Caliber, Gallus, Jen, Pudding1, Pudding2, Cathran, Martel, Chimp
  14. Mmmm, the number of Guests has been rather high all day. Hopefully a good sign.
  15. I would hazard a guess at Multimedia for your Picture, Light and Sound, without course content it would be difficult to guess. I am procrastinating over writing the end of my first essay(due tommorow, hurrah), I have pretty much given up on doing it before the session so gonna have a fun task of keeping awake once that finishes. This semester's course plan is unknown, since the timetable is still littered with clashes, so that needs resolving tommrow...hopefully...or after the 13th, since they rarely have things working properly.
  16. Hehe, I am loving this Danish Political Drama: The two people in charge of the majority party are waiting for the Queen to invite them in "Oh this is ridiculous! We have 91 seats, can't the old goat count!" *Doorman appears* "Her Majesty will see you now."
  17. [hide][/hide] I name this Ficus Unity in honour of the brave men and women who turned the innocent looking plant into a weapon of mass destruction.
  18. Hey all, for the session on the 15th I won't be here. Have asked Wyvern to rearrange for Saturday, Monday or some such, so if anyone has any day they would prefer (Or if people can't make it on other days, then I will just have to not be here) Also if anyone wants to offer to be my Archi (The person who takes control of your character when you are not there) please let me know. My character is a little strange (Ok, very strange) but playing as him is fairly straight forwards.
  19. Some reason I have the image of someone running into a room: 'Oh my god oh my god!!! Did you see the News there is going to be a butter shortage!' 'There isn't going to be a butter shortage' 'Oh yeah؟ THEN I SHALL CAUSE ONE!'
  20. Oh the hilarity, a butter crisis. Do people not know that butter doesn't go off for months? (Assuming it is refrigerated and such) As for critising the Norwegian market structure (as someone from the Norwegian Bussiness School is doing)...I find it tremendously entertaining that Germany is considering a montetary union(Like the Euro, but not the Euro, since that is doomed) with Norway(And the other solvent countries in Europe) if the Euro collapses. The Krone and the Norwegian economy is actually one of the strongest ones at the moment...largely due to not following America and Britian into rampant speculation and supposedly massive unending growth, but rather Germany and China with the focus on exports and producing goods, with steady growth. I rather fear for the world today, when this makes World News =P
  21. No, competing with yourself is not screwed up. Though fighting the future version is probably a bad idea...unless you know they had just eaten or something  Personally, make love, not war. So maybe me thinking you are not screwed up is because I am screwed up...Though I figure kissing yourself is less silly than staring at yourself, looking confused. That and get next weeks lottery numbers, or give last weeks to the past me. As to being violent...Endorphins from the pain in your hand could give a feeling of elation, which means making you feel good, as such you feel proud of making yourself feel good. Or you feel that you achieved something momentous by damaging your body...Probably similar to people who feel proud of themselves for having endured some grueling test of physical fitness...or pain endurance. I knew someone who felt proud that they had trained themselves to endure thumbscrews for 2 turns longer than when they started.
  22. Its the purpose of the Fireplace. I don't think game discussions should be 'restricted to the Fireplace', but if an idea develops in another thread, or in the Backroom, then the suggestion should be made to have it moved to the Fireplace. If the discussion is on the Backroom then it should be moved as soon as the mod becomes aware of it. If the discussion is on another thread in the Tavern then the Mod should post, asking if they (the poster and/or thread creator) want the discussion moved to the Fireplace. Unless they say no it should be moved after twenty four hours (Or if they agree*). (*the post creator is more there to go 'I don't want another idea on my thread' rather than to agree, obviously =P) Really, the Backroom just needs to be modded, and posted on, responsibly  . When responsibility breaks down there will be a frackus*. So... ...The Backroom exists as an area for Taverners, and others, to exchange thoughts and feelings about the world, it is expected that topics discussed with provoke exchange, and not simply by the world according to the poster. Please be mindful of other people's feelings and request Iey's attention if you think the discussion is causing a problem and she will come to a considered view and may recommend a two day hiatus on further discussion of the same issue. (Iey is reminded that this is the Tavern and it may/will probably occur that the people involved feel that she has treated them unfairly, or agreed with the other side, and so it may be a good idea to open a Private Message discussion between herself and the involved parties, if people complain, so that complaints can be logged without spilling into wider circles.) (The Tavern is reminded that Iey is a human being and may make mistakes. They are also reminded that the other Taverners are human beings and some of them are very stubborn.) *The main problem we are having now is that the Backroom was operating as it was intended to, Mather and Lei were discussing things. The problem was that other people didn't like said discussion, and we can't justify closing down other people's discussions just because we don't like them without abandoning freedom of speech, ect.
  23. See, the major contention I have against the general style of moderation on the board...is that moderation should be used preventatively. People will still be attacked (Or they won't and nothing will happen at all, as has been happening with the Fireplace), the only difference is that posters will feel it is their responsibility to flare up against people breaking the rules. The Moderation Team, or Mod, knows what they find offensive, and that will be removed irregardless. As you say: Further, if you are going to 'attack' (in an offical capacity) people who are trying to enforce the rules, then people do not feel inclined to help (even the rule-protected way of reporting offensive material) which sets you up as an Overlord, rather than a Mod. This will not help things in any regard, it just makes the community smaller. As to the 'never-ending cycle'... It could happen, but anything could happen. The rules you are proposing could lead to a Mod-Poster war (One in which one side is hopelessly outpowered), which has happened before. Such a war would eventually be won by the Mod (Unless the posters were so tremendously dogged that the Mod(s) lost faith/interest), and then a wasteland would be created (As has been created with the removal of the Backroom). Naturally there are many factors involved, it is not simply a case of my idea and everyone walks into the sunlit uplands of peace and prosperity, while your idea will lead to death and disaster. Anything could happen. I simply feel that greater freedom, and self-control, followed by reactive modding if things go wrong, are better than less freedom, punishment and preventative modding.
