  1. Yeah...the Tavern has a good history of following loosely defined rule systems  'Teenage Angst' doesn't cover anything and will just start arguments. For instance: 'I am so annoyed, the game I want costs £5 more than I have' 'OMG, TEENAGE ANGST!' Really what needs to happen is to simply restore the old thread, with no changes. Its unlikely people (Mather and Lei) will do what they did last time, and its unlikely other people will freakout straight away. However, if you put rules in then anyone who is feeling angsty can use the rule to attack other people.
  2. I would guess there will be a large party of them... We may not be able to avoid them, so our tactics should probably revolve around delaying the encounter and such.
  3. According to Wyvern they will likely want to detain all of us for assisting in your escape...and to bring us all to trial on Loar.
  4. For reference purposes we are arriving in the Kingdom of Gwendeep.
  5. I understand that much...Its more that they will have divined exactly what happened, so we need to make sure we know exactly what happened so we can counter them. Eg. If you were the one dropping the flasks, or if it was Retech, or both of you. Can we please not plan to kill the Palladins...It is almost certainly only going to get us into more trouble.
  6. When you and Jen got on the Invisible Hippogriff and firebombed the Wizard's store...
  7. Metagame, the GMs playground.... Its better to tie up loose ends, than to leave them to be exploited later...
  8. http://tools.digitalightbulb.com/pbcalc.html 25 points on here Then +2 (or 2 +1s) to whichever skill you want. Perhaps now would be a good idea to arrest (try to) Jen and the Hippogriff... ...Jen seems like the sort of character who will betray us if we just let her/him wander off... When we are finally tracked down I don't really want 'Drugging and Mind Control' to feature on our warrents for arrest. As for the Sorcerer... Grim, can you tell me the full story (Or authorise Wyvern to send me a transcript, edited if you so wish), but basically I want to know we are actually facing. Then, Wyvern, I would like to make a +12 Linguistics check, +4 for having a sample of the autograph, and +8 (or +8) for having seen the specific type of order before (Since we were already granted amnesty once before), so +16/+20/+24 overall, to forge papers of temporary respite on condition of recovery of artifacts deemed neccessary to the defence of the realm, specific to Martel. I would imagine this contradicts orders, and the examiner would be familar with the handwriting, though the type of document would not be well know but somewhat known of, since I don't imagine the Prince hands them out willy-nilly. So the check to discover the deception should be at +4+their mods. Unless we don't have those orders to make the copy from, in which case there is a -2 mod since the order type is unknown to the paladins as well. That should resolve the situation should events transpire against us....By and by these documents will be held by Martel, not I. Given that we already used the stunt once to escape the Island originally there will probably be other mods at work as well. Also, we may simply be arrested for fleeing the Island...in which case fortifying the ship may be a good idea.
  9. So basically everyone should have 33,000 GP - their characters starting funds? So I, having joined at level 7 would get 9,500 GP, Ico having joined at level 8 would get 0 GP and Ross, having joined at level 5 would get 22,500, correct?
  10. Jen decides to follow Loran after the horrors of the magic mirror. They charter a ride to an [undisclosed island] and Spoiler alert [hide] Open a shop together. However, after Jen sets Loran's best cloak on fire, and Loran sells Jen's Hippogriff to a meat store to buy a new one, they declare war on each other. Being masters of different economic systems they quickly convince those in the street, then neighbourhood then city to take sides, growing in power all the while. Eventually open warfare erupts, que storm that forces the party to land on the Island, and (more) hilarity ensues. [/hide] Anyway, if Grim is back then we have our Arcane Spellcaster. Though not overly fussed. Can you please post your character sheet though, mostly so Wyvern has it...and so we can suggest what to do, rather than asking 'do you have'...also so your character can be used proactively when you aren't there. And yes, as far as I can tell Nex is now avoiding the computer, so I am adopting Nellos for the interim.
  11. I am still on MSN, also Skype and Steam. Hamachi as well. And Victoria 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. In my opinion? http://forum.tip.it/topic/280473-the-back-room/page__view__findpost__p__5072227 The Tavern is not a roleplaying community any more...it is just a community, one constantly at each other's throats. So, if people want to bring back the Backroom then go ahead. I would personally just be happy with an offical mailing list...Or a single thread on another board.
  13. I agree, Big Ben on top, Effiel Tower at the bottom, Empire State Building on the backcover :shades:
  14. It was a good haul, most used gift was a CD of Herb Alpert music, mostly this track:  Other gifts of note were Black and White 2 (Complete with advertisement leaflet for The Sims 2  ), a number of Spooks (British Spy Drama) series box sets, a wide selection of International Politics (*) books, as well as a wide selection of English Language books (How to Read a Word), 'If' a book series of questions for dinner parties (If you had any celebraties hair, who would it be, ect **) Books on potty inventions (Pigeon Guided Missiles), the Steampunk Bible (Illustrated), Catch 22 (Which has blue gilded pages), Power Without Responsibility: Press, Broadcasting and the Internet in Britain. And a deceptively small box (About the size of 6 VHS tapes stacked up), containing approximately 136 hours of Star Trek: The Next Generation. V. Excited about that, it has been all I can do to not indulge in a 6 day feast of Star Trek, since I am gonna need stuff to distract me while I am in Wales. Gonna stop talking about that cause I am really feeling the urge to watch them now! HOWEVER Christmas presents were largely subverted by Nex tempting me to play Terraria with him, resulting in 38 hours being logged in the last 2 weeks. I would strongly recommend to anyone who has played, got bored and given up, to give it another go, and to try to kill the Wall of Flesh...the game changes considerably once you do that. If not, drop me a line and I will endevour to host for you  * ** So yeah, Merry Christmas to all.
  15. Spreading Anthrax Flavoured Goodness across the world, thats Mr. Tokyo.
  16. Merry Christmas all. To mods and such: Is it ok if we talk about Christmas on this thread, given it is a seasonal thing?
  17. To be honest...If anyone wanted to run a board game (You know, the Monopoly and the like) then I would certainly play. I would be willing to run one, I could second a webcam from the other computer if someone was willing to show me how to set up a live stream =) If anyone has any requests let me know.
  18. I sort of assumed you would be there...like a . =)
  19. Indeed. I think we should poke Paul and Dusty and Dungeonal into a group game. My Prussian Armies will destroy you!
  20. Mmmmm, secret secret character sheets are not cool. I think my level 6 was the last one I did (Since level 7 is/was in pencil on my old sheet) Though my new level 8 is more or less done: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12603519/Gallus.pdf Only thing that needs doing is removing Trapfinding/Trap Sense/Evasion/Improved Uncanny Dodge, adding Poision Use, the Ki Pool, Light Steps and No Trace, then adding (Talents) Smokebomb, Invisibilty and Wall Climbing. Oh, and Agent of the Dusk...obviously. All Human children should be Agents of the Dusk. (Also the Cloak of Elvenkind was added in session) I would rather like a vague XP system, just as it would be easier to manage...Since the adventures are structured it makes sense that the rewards are reasonably structured as well.
  21. =( Hate it when that happens. We also leveled up, so we are level 8 now.
  22. Right, people who were not here: We pulled the lever in the main room, discovered a secret door, and a secret room (suprisingly behind the secret door). In the secret room there was another door, we also discovered a talking mirror in the non-secret room leading to the secret door. The mirror advised us on certain things while we explored, and we discovered an undead body lying on a table. (dun) After large amounts of talking, it was decided to cut the head off of the undead body...which turned out to be alive. (Dun) In the ensuing fight we fought with the undead body, and eventually defeated him, with help from the mirror, who then killed us. (DUNNNNNNNNNNNNNN) But it was all a horrible misunderstanding, and the mirror brought us back to life on a 15 in 10,000 chance. Fortunately Jen and Loran were no where near the crazy crazy mirror when it was killing everyone, and they both decided to retire from adventuring. But, as they were leaving they managed to discover a Young Human boy, by the name of Gallus. He invoked a motherly spirit in Jen, who decided the mirror might be tempered by the little child. Loran, being cold and mean spirited, walked down to the beach and co-ordinated with Kiara the taking back of the ship. Then, spontanously, the Volcano erupted and the ship holders fled. Meanwhile Jen and Gallus returned to the party, now resurrected, but, OH NOES LAVA. And after an extended dialogue/looting session, we escape the lava. Fortunately Nellos, using wild stoneshaping gave us enough time to remember to say (Thanks to Alg) that we loot the Orb of Odvan. We then raced down the hill, away from the doomy doomy lava, though Nellos and Alg were almost swallowed by the Lava, when suddenly Nellos cast Fly, and swooped in to save Alg. The party thus boarded the boat, with Loran and Kiara, and set sail for the Dwarven Kingdoms. And no Retech, we don't know what the loot is yet =P Next session is the 1st of January, details on the time closer to then, since parties and such will probably be arranged/slept off.
  23. Hey all, session is on Sunday, but Wyvern can also do Friday if there is some problem for someone on Sunday. So unless someone posts here assume Sunday.
  24. IRC most probably. Play by Post is all very well and good, but slow and you can never 'get away' from it. Maptools/ect is fun up to a certain point...really it needs programmers and more time than we have =P I would be more incline to favour crosswords and other word puzzles...They are easier to create, easier to solve and don't require as much specialist knowledge as math puzzles or engineering issues. Really, I would want to get a number of set forms. Crosswords, Sodoku, Rebuses...Coffee break grade puzzles, designed to be 'difficult' but solvable within 15 minutes (Or an hour  ) Science and Engineering are closely linked and there is crossover, for example: The party comes to a locked door. The scientist proposes that they might be able to decode the lock, while the Engineer proposes they may be able to hotwire the lock. Othertimes one is more important than the other: The ship is trying to scan something. The Scientist does some scanning, but can't get good readings(Rolls), so asks the Engineer to divert more power to the sensors. The Engineer does so(Rolls), giving the Scientist a boost that allows them to get better readings(The original Scientist's roll + a bonus of between 1 and 5). Rarely are they totally seperate, since the Science person can always* scan/suggest something for a bonus on Engineering, while the Engineer can always* tinker or fiddle with something for a bonus on Science checks. (*can't think of a reason right now, but doubtless there will be one somewhere  Organic circuitry for example, in which case medics would be useful.) Independant research...Probably not. The same with building your own battle armour and such. I like modding the sessions where all I have to do is keep track of a couple of figures on a peice of paper, but I'd like the game to be more about exploring new worlds/ect, rather than resource gathering and building more powerful ways to shoot through each other's armour. If people really want it, then I would consider it. With a little more 'schooling' from Wyvern and from outside RPG sessions, I think I will go for a less 'all or nothing' approach.
