  1. Well... Worst Christmas present ever.
  2. I don't think Racheya is attacking Runescape by saying it's boring, I think she's making the point that there are many people who are concerned (myself included) that Runescape has become slightly boring to them and does not keep their attention and interest as much as it did in previous times. This is something that we don't want, and we are trying to find ways to freshen up our gameplay so we can keep playing and enjoying it.
  3. There is time to play as long as you're not loaded on credits. I also have had dips in the game. I went f2p for a bit two falls ago because my parents were no longer willing to pay for my membership and I didn't have the money. Then I got back into it a bit and played somewhat. I really picked up last summer until I discovered Steam and got into other PC Games such as Portal and Team Fortress 2. I still managed to keep up with Runescape, but then I stopped for a bit in the fall. I only logged on to get the Christmas Event item, then took another 5 month haitus but have playing fairly strong all summer. I also need something Fresh to keep me interested otherwise it feels like a grind. For me, shattered Heart works fairly well. Getting a new game can steal me away though. (E.g. Minecraft)
  4. Is there anything wrong with trying to represent only one side of the argument? Last time I checked that was a VERY effective way to win debates and persuade people that your opinion is best. Who the cabbage cares that it was biased towards one opinion? I can't recall any articles in my inconsistent reading of the Tip.It Times to be an excellent non-biased evaluation of both-sides of an argument on a Runescape-related situation. You and some others seem to be horribly offended someone wrote an article that doesn't agree with your opinion. Deal with it. If you don't like it, write your own opinion article giving the other side. If you want a constant stream of news and opinions that is horribly biased towards only what you think, go watch any major American news channel. Also, I'd like to see you explain how the Tip.It Times is a source of "news." Yes gosh dang it. How about as a reward for being a member so loyally, I get new good quality content and see the day Jagex makes the next big step towards shutting down macroers? I'll take that over silly emotes and costumes anyday.
  5. Deadliest Catch was a joke. And also a blatant ripoff from an excellent TV show. The only thing that's worse is the large amount of hype for a quest that's only worth doing for the handsome reward. I am also very much in agreement with (and enjoying) the "Does RS have a Melee Bias" series. I believe the writer is showing good examples and making their point with lots of sound evidence.
  6. For the "Bridge Construction 2" Challenge room in Dungeoneering, you need a pickaxe and a hammer in addition to the provided chisel to repair the bridge. The guide currently says you only need a pickaxe and a chisel. See the game text below.
  7. RWT still happens. It's broken. Your argument is invalid. ...I've wanted to say that for a while now. EDIT: Oh, and in response to the first article, you've managed to sum up my thoughts very well. The question is, what should have Jagex done instead? Ok, then you don;t break it even worse. :shame: Impossible to do so. With the trade limit system you can not track the majority of RWTers, with free trade they'll be able to be picked up by the radar again as the trade limit methods (a lot of which centre around manipulation clans) will no longer function. Further, yes the current system is broken. The original change was the biggest injustice Runescape has ever witnessed; the majority of players were punished due to Jagex's inability to deal with the offenses of the few and to top that off, it doesn't work; if anything, it made the problem grow and harder to detect (complain about level 3s at yews? They're visible and detectable, the new manners of RWTing are mostly not). What I meant wasn't broken was the wilderness. The wilderness is perfectly fine as it is. RWT very much still happens, but now they're just opening up the floodgates to let it be even more of a problem. RSVote, you have no proof to your argument that RWT will be easier to catch. Yes Jagex said that, but can we really trust them? They're unleashing a huge update changing a lot of game code, and something is bound to be missed or go wrong knowing Jagex's history of getting it right the first time. Consider that Jagex said all of the following things: Quotes drawn from here After acknowledging the above, do you really, really think that things have changed? Did Jagex miraculously learn how to stop all RWT forever over a couple of years? Will they be able to handle the multitude of accounts that will attempt to RWT once they pull the switch? I don't think so. You don't change the gun restriction laws to allow anybody to own any gun without any license just because the amount of murders and robberies goes down and the police have bigger guns. Also, considering Jagex said that "All Customer Support teams combined, we're banning tens of thousands of accounts each week that belong to real-world traders," I would not consider the removal of wilderness a punishment for the majority based on the offenses of a minority. Hundreds of thousand of accounts is not a minority. Throw in the huge publicity stunt to make it look like they genuinely considered the opinions of the "Runescape Community," which was performed horribly, and it turns the whole thing into a bunch of bullcabbage.
  8. Worst mistake ever by Jagex to bring it back. You don't need to fix something that's not broken. The poll and referendum was complete cabbage.
  9. It's because he's a reincarnation of Arrav of course. Or hell, maybe it's just a common name nowadays. *shrug* Yes, but, did you remember who called him Arrav? It wasn't the people who found him, but the mysterious cloaked man. You guys missed the point. The point is that the legendary Arrav of Avarrocka is originally from the future (the time period of Runescape right now), and the cloaked man brought him back in time. Later he would be officially named Arrav by the group that found him after he encountered the goblins, but the cloaked man already knew this. Hopefully that clears up some confusion.
  10. I find it ironic that you criticize the author of using unsupported opinions and slander when you also are using unsupported opinions and slander in your criticism. <_< You're offering no more factual evidence than he is. You may think that people enjoy Conquest, but your opinion isn't necessarily the truth. If you're trying to convince someone who has no knowledge of Conquest and it's popularity (such as myself) that it's actually played a lot you're not doing a very good job. It certainly doesn't help that you did an excellent job of being polite and not calling names. </end sarcasm> On a different note, thanks for all the comments on the fictional. ;) COUGH logical fallacy. A "letter to the editor" (these responses, for sake of argument) does not require the same amount of evidence that an article writer needs. There is a major difference. In fact, a person responding in the negative about one of the author's claims is proof, however small, that the author may actually be incorrect. He may be incorrect, but that doesn't mean that anyone who objects to any argument with a lack of evidence supporting their objection is automatically more likely to be correct than the person they're arguing against. Just because they say "no, you're wrong" doesn't mean they're right.

  12. You can suggest an article all you like, but I'm sure it would be better for you to write it. A writer won't be as inclined to write about your things as much as they would theirs. Honestly, people are taking offence at such slight things, are you all newbs to the internet or something? Don't really want to begin writing a 1500 word article to find out that it won't be used =/. I think I'll try and write an article with a few buddies later, probably. Hmm... Well it's never going to be used if you don't write it and submit it. <_< Just go ahead and write it. They'd love to have a look at it, and if they think it's good enough, they'll put it in the Times. If you want I can give you my thoughts on it. ;) I offer that same advice to everyone reading this thread. If you have something you want to say in the Times, write an article and submit it. I can't promise that it will get published, but I can promise you they'll never publish something if you don't write it.
  13. Using that same logic, Jagex should also remove combat requirements and all hard monsters, because that requires lots of grinding combat and making money to buy good weapons and food that's no fun at all either. <_< "But wait," you reply, "combat is lots of fun!" Perhaps, but lots of people like skilling too and maybe don't like combat as much. Jagex isn't going to change the system just because you don't want to do skills. If you don't want to grind skills and can't find a fun way to level them, then don't level them so you can do quests. This is the whole point of Runescape: You're not required to do any particular thing to enjoy the game. People can like skilling, just don't make it required for quests. I like quests, but I don't like skilling. I would like to see alternatives for stat requirements in quests. For example "Blood runs deep" you need 75 attack and 75 strength because that's what you need for the balmung weapon. This weapon hits a lot on dagannoths and you need it to finish the boss monster of the quest. But I don't want to get 75 strength and attack. However I am 99 range and 98 magic. why doesn't Jagex just lets me try to finish off the boss without a balmung. Maybe it will make it a lot harder, maybe even impossible to do it with range and magic, who knows? It will be a challenge to try it anyway. Now Jagex doesn't even let me start the quest without the stats. I would like to see the assist system work in quests to do something that requires a high skill. Or like in monkey madness, people who can't finish the puzzle pay 200k. Doesn't that take away the point of the quest being an achievement? It shows that not only you have finished a quest, but you also have the levels to complete said quest. I don't think people should be able to bypass one requirement because they excel a lot in some other areas. I feel that takes away the spirit of the quest. (In your case you also need ranged and magic for beating the Dag Mother anyways.) The few pay-to-solve-the-puzzle instances are ok, but that should not be an option for everything. Also, I don't mean to fully inject myself into the main discussion here, but have those of you who say that you "can write better articles" or "have applied for the Tip.It Times Editorial Panel without getting a response" actually submitted any articles? I'm not accusing anyone here of not submitting an article, I just don't know who has or who hasn't. I think that actually submitting some great pieces of writing would be a more effective way of getting on the panel than just criticizing an author every time and saying you could do better.

  15. Indeed, the second article seems to imply that in some cases people "deserve a spot" or should move elsewhere because "it's the polite thing to do." Why should anyone move or not be allowed to join? I have as much right to whatever monster or resource you are trying to get it as much as you do. No one should have to move for anybody for no reason. If you can't compete with us for monsters and resources, then perhaps you should move. But I'm not going to waste valuable slaying time to be polite. Sorry. This nearly takes me back to my earlier days on free worlds when people would complain that I took "their rock" or "their hill giant" or whatever. Just cause you got there first doesn't mean you get to use it exclusively. Is it frustrating? Heck yeah. I've been on both ends. But no one should bend their back over for you to be polite. No one is going to do that for you in the real world either.
  16. I also received a strange rock while harvesting a fruit tree. I was harvesting my coconut tree. Crew Edit: Thanks so much for confirming this. The guide has been reflected to show this change. -SerpentEye
  17. I personally don't think there should be different levels of the Quest Cape. They haven't done it for skill capes, why should they do it for the Quest Cape? Your reward for completing most of the quests (or a certain amount) is the reward from a quest (such as an item, access to a certain area, etc.) or the ability to access and complete a new quest (as in having enough Quest Points to do While Guthix Sleeps, etc.). Also, you are guaranteed the obvious reward of the satisfaction that you have done X number of quests and that you finally beat a certain quest. Completing different amounts of quests already has it's own reward so I don't think it needs a cloak to go with it too. This is paralleled in skilling. When you reach 85 woodcutting, you don't get a "minor woodcutting cape," but you do get the ability to cut evil elder trees. Even though some levels you get next to nothing (no new things to cut/fish/mine/cook, etc.), you still get your own miniaturized fireworks display and the right to showcase your accomplishment of level XX in whatever skill you're working on. I believe that skill capes and the quest cape were designed to showcase that one has completed all the quests or reached level 99 in the respective skill. While the Achievement Diaries have different levels of completion, in a way they're similar to skills and the quest cape by having intermediate rewards for certain levels of success. It just so happens that with the Achievement Diaries one of your rewards is a new piece of clothing. Do I think that having different levels of quest capes is a good idea? No. Do I think that having different levels of quest capes would ruin the reputation of the "all-quests completed" cape? No. Do I think that having different levels of quest capes is basically giving people a new cape in addition to all the rewards they have already received for completing X amounts of quests? Yes. I don't think anything should be done about the Quest Cape itself, though Jagex may need to evaluate or re-evaluate what they believe is the requirement to wear the Quest Cape. I think we took a close shave with the release of the Nomad's Requiem quest. The Quest Cape shouldn't be too elite, but then also shouldn't be too "easy" or "effortless" to get.
  18. I don't think we're asking the right question here. I will get to that in a minute. Firstly, this topic is a little confusing because the title asks "is the quest cape still a good thing to get?" while in the thread post you ask "is it still as fun to get?" Furthermore, both of those questions rely solely on your personal opinion. The point is, who cares if someone doesn't think it's good or fun or worthwhile to get a quest cape? I'm sure you don't care about them. They can think that and enjoy not getting a quest cape. I, on the other hand will go after it and not give a care about what they think. I think it's worth it and I think it's fun and I think it's still a symbol of accomplishment. But that's just my opinion. The question I really think we should be asking is "is the quest cape too elite now?" When the quest cape came out, there wasn't too much in the way of getting it. Desert Treasure and Recipe for Disaster were some of the harder quests to get it. Now we have Nomad's Requiem, While Guthix Sleeps, Summer's End, Rocking Out, Blood Runs Deep, and Within the Light. All of those quests require high skills (both combat and non-combat), many quest points, or are in a long series of quests. Especially with the new quest release, I wonder if the Quest Cape is almost becoming too much of a requirement. I enjoyed the Quest Cape because I could obtain it without having extremely high combat. It also demanded high skills, which I have. I had the feeling that eventually we would get to a point where really only a few people could obtain the cape within a few months of the release of the quest. I love seeing quests with high skill requirements, but did Jagex aim a little too high this time with the new Grandmaster quest? Are Grandmasters supposed to be this hard? Should they be higher yet? How elite should the Quest Cape be and how elite is it right now? Those are the kinds of questions we should be asking. 10 years from now, if Runescape is still going (which I expect it to be) it will still be a good thing to get the Quest Cape(how could it ever be a "bad thing" to get it?). I don't think we can debate much on that question. We can and do need to debate some of the questions I posed above.
  19. This is the best Birthday present ever. :D Thanks Jagex!
  20. What else are dragon items used for? #-o They were supposed to be used for combat. But since equipment grows in power over time, and with most armours and weapons in the game being relatively easy to obtain, the older armours are left in the dust, and end up being used purely for outfits. Why does everyone believe they're only used for looks? I wear my dragon armor because I don't want to buy barrows. There are quite a few players who prefer dragon armor. Also, there's another similar thread talking about the need of a Dragon Kiteshield here. Vast, vast majority uses it only for looks. [/hide] Did you poll the entire Runescape population to find that out? Or are you just going off of what some people say? :| I'm going from what I see in everyday 'scaping. So just by looking at their armor you can tell that they're wearing it because it looks cool and not for the combat bonuses? You must have great eyes. Honestly, you cannot make that sort of an assumption without getting some firm evidence from a decent poll with a non-biased sample from the population. Your assumption would be similar to me saying "Over 50% of F2P'ers in Runescape wear Rune armor." It's a decent assumption, and there's a good possibility that it's true, but I have absolutely no evidence for it, so I can't say that it's a fact.

  23. It's a nice idea, but that is way too much of bonus. Maybe 5% or 10% is more reasonable. I'd like a stackable +5% strength and attack bonus. I doubt it will happen though. I'm thinking it will be a quest item like the dragon scimitar.
  24. You claim that it is very easy to get 85 in a skill on members. I believe that is a very incorrect statement. Have ever played on members? It is not that easy to get 85 in level with members. Also, you're saying that that is not an achievement to get an 85 on members. I have to say that is a bunch of bologna. Getting ANY level whether you have a Runescape membership or not is an accomplishment. Heck, that's why you get fireworks and a message saying "Congratulations, you just got XX in this skill." You don't need some dumb cape to prove that getting XX level in a skill is an accomplishment. I believe Jagex will not and should never accept this idea of a F2P only "labor cape."
  25. Thank you for speaking on the entire behalf of the Runescape population without asking their opinion. :wall: I actually prefer dragon armor to barrows because I don't have to fix it all the time, plus I can wield a shield with my weapon of choice and still be able to use my weapon's special attack.
