  1. Cannoning wallasaki is a good source of blue charms. It seems to drop an equal distribution of all charms, which is pretty neat. I usually go there with bone crusher, demonhorn necklace, cannon, and a inv full of prayer renewals and I can usually last hours, averaging about 60 blues, 60 greens, 30 gold, and 20 crims an hour.
  2. May I ask why you are gathering charms?
  3. Removing free trade was a horrible mechanic for the game. It had all sorts of pitfalls. 1. Merchant clans sprouted which were essentially ponzi schemes. This often led to items being unobtainable due to the high demand. 2. Items were severely limited in their pricing. Some items became "junk" items because they were literally worthless, despite having some value. Removing free trade is a terrible solution to the problem. Assuming Jagex is able to successfully launch "Bot watch", then the removal of bots could become sucessfull (at least the mass majority of gold farming bots)...
  4. But your time could be better spent doing something else. If you are going to spend your time gathering charms, you might as well as gather the charms that will get you more xp/hr.
  5. So back my high school days, I used to enjoy doing certain activities with certain individuals. Since then, all parties involved seem to no longer partake in playing Runescape. With that said, I'm back and I'm looking to get back into some aspects of the game. PKing has never really been something that I've been much of a fan of (mainly because the mechanics behind it), but I do enjoy PvM. My original character, N64Jive, was stolen and then banned shortly after I recovered it. I had a pure, who I originally used for f2p pking, but in the last couple of years I have managed to get some decent stats. His name is Limp Arch, which is a name from 2002, back when I was a punk kid who enjoyed Limp Bizkit. Anyway, the stats are as follows: Where is the correct place for me to look in order to find some PvM "clans" or groups or whatnot. I also enjoy dungeoneering, although I'm not the best at it. I finally got around to getting ancient curses, so I think my skill level will rise tremendously. Thanks
  6. Finally got around to using my darts. My drops were: 375 Onyx Bolts and 20 blue charms 12 torstol seeds brews and restores Virtus Robe Bottoms It was interesting to see that the robe bottoms have dropped from 50m to 37m after this update.
  7. I've played rs for a long time and I still fail to understand MTK. Are the resources removed from your coffers daily, using the formula of your approval rating? Or does it use the amount of days since you've deposited and use the approval rating on that day. Obviously the 2nd option would be better, however I heard both.
  8. We use minimum wage because we are attempting to value time invested in an account, rather than say working at a job, i.e. minimum wage. Obviously none of us are paid by Jagex to play, idk where you pulled that one from :?: but let's ignore that one as well -.- . And from your example (the painting), the "wage" per year for that project would average out to be $1000/yr. Though not an actual wage, per say, but an AAR (average annual return) on the invested project/painting. This is synonymous to our accounts, except we figure their price in the opposite order (hourly -> total). I'm not saying this is an accurate pricing model, but hey, that's what makes the hypothetical market! I believe the reason for accounts being under valued is due to an enormous amount of intrinsic value, which is what makes RS such a phenomenal game. As for my account's price tag, I wouldn't be doing my character justice by putting one on it. No amount of tangible assets can buy back time spent. That is kind of my point. Why would you use the value of minimum wage to value your account? Wage is what an employer pays an employee. You are not being paid by an employer, and if you were to sell your account (which there is a market for), your expected wage wouldn't be anywhere near minimum wage. So why use minimum wage? Next, stating that accounts are under-valued because of intrinsic value (assuming conversely you mean people over value their accounts because of intrinsic value) means that people expect their account to raise in value. I do not think that is the case with RS. I think it is more likely the case of sentimental value. With all things, whether it's Runescape accounts or family heirlooms, the usual reason for over-valuation by the owner is likely because they don't intend to sell the object. This is often validated by reversing the roles. IE, everyone who states they couldn't part with their account for less then x amount, let's say $1000. You don't actually value the account at the value, ie, if Jagex said you would need to pay them $1000 to continue using your account, I guarantee no one would pay that amount. With that said, this thread is titled "How much if your account worth to you", so feel free to throw out whatever random number you see fit....after all, this is all hypothetical...
  9. Right, but in 5 months he was able to make an account that took me 10 years to create. Sure, there was other social interaction I gained in the 10 years (see http://www.tip.it/runescape/index.php?times=36), and some friendships, but those are all gone now. Regardless, the entire point is that the reason that accounts are so under valued compared to most peoples expectations is largely because the time you put into the account is not equivalent to the time it would actually take to create an account of similar skills. I believe the $5 discount is accredited to AFK or the fact that this is a game, i.e. not RL labor/work. And, the first part of this sentence seems irrelevant... <.< Overall, interesting insight on botting revenues. Any idea how it stacks up to WoW's? The numbers had nothing to do with the posters discounts, merely as runescape accounts should be seen as items and not labor, mainly due to the fact that many of the accounts/gp gained/sold on rs are botted, thus an automated process, thus not comparable to actual wages. First, I would like an explanation on your stock market analogy, because it lost me. Next, our reviver was taking into account the fact that time = money. This game is not just items/gp's (try buying 99 mining). It's safe to say that 99% of the people mulling over the thought of selling their account are factoring in labor/non-items to the asking price. Seeing as how it's impossible to place an exact price on everyone's personal time, minimum wage tends to be the best overall alternative. So, yes, it is comparable to actual wages. My entire point of the stock market reference was there is a difference between being paid for labor versus paid for time you invested into something. Apparently it was a bad analogy. Let's just ignore it :) Next, why would you use the value of minimum wage? A wage is something that an employer pays an employee. You are not employed by Runescape or Jagex or anyone for that matter, rather you are working on a product (or in the literal sense, playing a game...). It takes time, but so does everything. If it takes me 10 years to create a painting, but the painting is only worth 10,000, was my wage $1000/year? So no...it's not comparable to actual wages.

  11. Although the thread is based on how much you would be willing to sell your account for, the realistic number is interesting. Accounts are often valued less then what people would be willing to part with them due to bots. The thread reviver made a post of the amount of time put into this game in order to get where they are at, and the value came out to somewhere around 20 grand. However, that's like putting money into the stock market and stating you should get paid $5/hour for every $10/hour you put into it. A friend of mine who is the producer of many premium scripts for a certain botting site got in a argument with me about this over a year ago, and originally, I agreed with most of the people here (That you put so much time into your account that any offer would be extremely undervalued). He then proceeded to inform me that he could make a $500 account and sell it within 6 months. The only accounts going for that amount on a particular site were around 2100 skill total. Even with bots, I didn't think it was possible. Surely bot downtime, a possible ban, etc, would keep him from doing this. I was wrong. The guy was able to produce a better account then mine, which has 10 years worth of progress, in just under 6 months. I then proceeded to ask him why everyone doesn't do that. And his response was gold farming. He doesn't do it himself, but apparently some of these server farms are able to generate thousands of dollars per day. All of this blows my mind. Apparently there was a specific example that was generating $400/day profit and the user had even automated the alert system. The guy basically does the job of a person working in IT and would make 146k a year... So given all this information, I was able to understand why it is that people bot.
  12. I think you underestimate the amount of cute cat pictures on the internet...
  13. They could have implemented a process within the code which was pushed to the servers, and then in order to disable the process, they needed to restart the servers. Just a guess.
  14. Looks like people who are unbanned are receiving 20 spin tickets/ban. Also many botters were unbanned as well..
  15. Isn't that just because of the update? Bots need to be reactivated etc... The botting client still works.
  16. From what I understand, heat maps are supposed to build up in botting areas, and the system has been profiling accounts for a while now. Just visited green dragon bots. There was at least 30 bots there. So far, I'm not impressed. On a side note, just went back to green dragons after Jagex's little [bleep] up. The bots seemed to have cleared... :) Empty yew trees at grand exchange. Empty mining guild. Looks like they flipped a switch for the bot update. Might have been a little overhauled :)
  17. Mod MMG: Hmm, our new "system" doesn't seem to be deterring botting. Botters are still botting without worry. What should we do? Mod Jacmob: Let's ban everyone. Those who are legit will complain about it, and those who bot will get worried that the new detection system is working, and hopefully quit botting. Then we'll just act like it was some sort of human error when it's all said and done. Mod MMG: You sir, are a genius.

  19. LEAVE THE BOTS ALLLLLL-HONE! Seriously? Come back to reality. It's players who are cheating at the game and then become banned. Jagex just decided to introduce some fodder along with it. The real update isn't botany bay. The real update is the detection system. We will see how well it works....I'm reporting every bot I see in hopes of seeing the little hand come down. So far, no love. To loosely quote Jagex "The new system works fairly quickly before they can cause any sort of economical impact". Either this part of the update is still in the works, or it's just another failed attempt at stopping botting.
  20. It doesn't seem to be level dependent, but rather size of the task dependent. I got similar xp boost for prayer and firemaking, and my prayer is 95 while my firemaking is 75.
  21. a) there are some areas *cough*all red chin spots*cough* where (in eng worlds) no players last more than a minute. That's why you can surely ban them all at once. b) 3rd party RWT and/or account sharing is still not allowed. However, I understand that the ban reason should reflect the reality, but... The bots are here and will be no matter what is because so much is done to avoid false positives. That includes legit* botting software that so many players are using, be it for prayer switching or inventory dropping. * – macroing on a MMO is supposedly legal as long as the action performed can actually be performed with the mouse/keyboard in the same fashion and each macroed action is initiated by the user. I can understand that this helps to keep casual players, but people are greedy and will abuse this system (a great example is the whole XP-Waste portal of borderline practices). Then JaGeX has to make further exclusions and so on. When did I say this?
  22. Yeah cause before it was the not-at-all the same method of swapping between the quest tab and the task tab to do the same thing. *facepalm* Are you just a troll? Or do you have some sort of superiority complex? Before it used to be one click between the quest tab and the tasks tab. Now you have to click the task tab, select open noticeboard, wait for the interface to pop up, select quest, wait again for the interface and then switch between both while having not being able to see what is going on with your character or use any of the other interfaces. Seriously though, was there really any reason for treating me like I'm an idiot? Not being a troll, just what you said 'switching between the tabs [for tasks and quests] is very annoying' hasn't changed at all really. Once you are in the noticeboard there is still 1 task (well achievements if we are being correct) tab and 1 quest tab, switching between the two is still just one click. What you further described clarifies what you actually meant is annoying which is more than just switching between the tabs, it is the process of going from the live game to the noticeboard tab into the noticeboard and then swapping between achievement and quest tabs. Right, I was in a hurry to get that post off as I was late for work. Thought I would share my opinion. Upon sharing my opinion, instead of making a statement of "What do you mean? Isn't the task the same as it was before", you instead attacked my intelligence by being facetious and of course the ::facepalm::...

  24. Using the new quest interface and task interface is a pain in the ass. I decided to try and finish varrock tasks, and most of the ones I have left are quest related. switching between the tabs is very annoying.
  25. I had this same task and noticed that raw pies weren't buying for a reasonable price. I assumed that Jagex likely wouldn't compensate, so instead I spent 2 hours making raw pies (super boring). Turns out you can make about 750/ hour. I ended up selling 1500 pies for a profit of 1300/pie, which is just shy of 2m. Not huge profits by any means, and making the 1m/hour definitely wasn't worth it. I originally did it as I assumed you would be able to make 5m/hr, but quickly found a bug in my algorithm...
