  1. Cabin in the Woods - it was pretty good.
  2. I like the system of going by golds, then silvers, then bronze. Just finished watching the closing ceremony, it was fun. Not as good as the opening ceremony but it's hard to compare since they were going for two different things. After watching the opening ceremony I went ahead and got the Beijing opening ceremony to compare, and I liked the London one much better. Maybe it is because as an American the British culture is much more relevant. I'm getting the Beijing closing ceremony now to see how that is. Judging by the preview of Rio's 2016 opening ceremony it looks like that one I might not really get as much either, though probably more than the Beijing one.
  3. You also have to take into account the limit on the amount of competitors per country that can enter.
  4. Google's are easier to remember so when I need to test with one that isn't my ISP's (which are easy to remember since I work on them occassionally :) ) I just use them. Well, some ISPs have odd configuration issues with their DNS servers which can only be avoided by switching to a different provider, like from my previous experience AT&T's DNS servers have the times for them holding entries being excessively long (As in it will take upwards of 24 hours for it to register a change in IP address for the site), or Time Warner redirects requests to nonexistant addresses to a bing search, or another DNS provider I have used would occasionally get corrupted entries preventing the use of their servers for looking up specific webpages. I don't think 24 hours is an excessively long time for DNS, it is actually pretty standard. The redirect to their own search is the main reason I didn't use my ISP's DNS when I was on Cincinnati Bell, and why I don't like OpenDNS either.
  5. This was pretty good: http://vimeo.com/46824253 http://vimeo.com/46824253
  6. The bad thing about the US medals are that they are still half swimming related, we don't really have quite as good of a spread throughout all the sports. We still have some more golds that should come somewhat easily (Men's Basketball, Women's Beach Volleyball) but I'm not sure which others we are going to be getting from now on...
  7. I finally watched a rip of the opening ceremonies and enjoyed it quite a bit. The rip was 6 hours long, but after about ten minutes I jumped to the beginning of the ceremony (2 hours in) and watched all of it from there. There were parts that weren't as good as others, but nothing that wasn't good. The commentators seemed real excited about the torch thing at the end while they were bringing in pieces with the teams, so that was a bit of a let down. I've been avoiding all info/pictures about it so the only thing I knew going in was Rowan Atkinson was going to show up at some point. Once the announcers said that it was Danny Boyle who created it I got excited, and wasn't let down. Liked hearing some Murphy music in there too.
  8. Full time job, Full time job. Do have a mortgage though, so don't have a ton of extra money. Some of us are old on here :)
  9. The Zidisha one definitely has a lot less people on it, and they all seem to be from around one or two areas. You actually can make a little money off of them (around 1-2% interest) but when you add money to your account you are charged a 3.4% transfer fee, and then they also put on a 15% suggested donation to the company to cover expenses. I just went with it, so I got $100 on my account and ended up paying $118.40 for that. Chance of getting $102 back which is a bad investment, but this is for charity not to make money.
  10. I see what you were saying though, at first glance you kind of wonder how it actually helps them. But these are (mostly) people who can't get loans that are reasonable any other way. Really I don't actually care much about getting the money back. The thing I like about these are that they seem to actually help people long term, whereas it seems many charities are just keeping something that doesn't work going for a short while longer. But the possibility of money back does change things. I had a deal with myself, long story short I have $450 that I get to spend on whatever I want. Don't have anything I want right now, so I am going to give it all to a few of these, and then in a few months hopefully get some or all of it back and spend it then. If there was no chance of money back then I wouldn't give nearly that much.
  11. So this is a company that does microfinance loans to people (generally in poorer countries), and kind of combines it with charity. So basically you donate a certain amount, and eventually get it paid back. There is some risk there, about 2% of them don't get paid back. And since it is charity you don't actually earn any interest on the loan as far as I can tell. This site has apparently been around for a while but I just found out about it today. So the question is, has anyone heard bad things about this? Seems like most charities are pretty bad in regards to actually helping people, just curious if this one is the same. The link to the site: http://www.kiva.org/ EDIT: Looks like another one is https://www.zidisha.org/index.php Zidisha. It looks like it might be better for the borrower, with slightly more risk to the lender. Since it really is just for charity the slightly more risk to the lender is not that big of a deal.
  12. It was pretty good. Not quite as good as The Dark Knight, but still pretty good.
  13. Red Faction, Amnesia and Mirror's Edge today. Someday I might actually play all the games I buy...
  14. Yeah, it was weird. Just looking it up, it looks like the fix is just to set the affinity to one core, which is easy enough. Not sure why I didn't do that back in the day though. Oh well, $2.50 extra for one of the best games of all time won't hurt me :)
  15. I did as well, even though I already own it. The CD didn't work on multi-core processors back in the day, not sure if a fix ever came out or not, but I figured the steam version would work fine.
  16. I love PC gaming, and I find it vastly superior to console gaming. But I also don't really give a crap whether anyone else thinks that or not. If someone found game apps on the phone to be the ultimate way to play, I would not agree with them at all but also wouldn't really care if they did think that way.
  17. I don't know if it was because it was the first one I played, or the setting just interested me the most, or if it really was just the best, but Rome: Total War is my favourite of the Total War series, and I have played them all. I absolutely love that game. It makes it to number 3 on my list of favourite games most of the time. If you count the entire series I have over a 1000 hours in it. RTW probably makes up a good 300-400 hours of that. EDIT: I just played Shogun 2: TW not too long ago, I didn't get into that one all that much. I didn't get into the first Shogun: TW much either, maybe it is just the scenario doesn't interest me as much.
  18. No great episodes this season yet, just average.
  19. This weekend's multiplayer event is fun. Of all the characters you can use for the squad goal I only have the Krogan Soldier unlocked, so I had to use it. I used it once, months ago when I first got it but not since then. It seemed like every time a Krogan was on the team, it would be easily the worst player. I'm not talking score wise (since that doesn't matter), just a really bad teammate. Always dying, not caring about objectives ect... And after playing it a few games I kind of like it. The number of bad players increased quite a bit in the few games I've played so far, I think it is just the mindset you get in when you play that character. Though you can easily play it correctly as part of a team, only about half seemed to do that. The others just ran off and died.
  20. My cousin said it was releasing next week and I didn't think it was true, just a rumour he read somewhere, when I saw it on the official site it was surprising. I'm one of the people who liked the game a lot, even the ending, so this isn't really all that important to me in that way. Just more Mass Effect is what I want, and this will give me a reason to play my main character for a while again rather than just run through with a new character.

    College

Have fun. Life after college is pretty much downhill.
  22. Exactly this. It looked great, but the rest of it left much to be desired. Plot holes, sometimes poor acting ect...
  23. My leaderboard stats already reset one time for no reason at all, which pissed me off a lot. I don't care where I rank in regards to others, it was just awesome to see how many blocks I've mined and stuff I've killed. Now the stats are going to be off quite a bit.
