  1. You should start with some deep breaths...
  2. The best argument in favor of legalization is the statistic that a lower percentage of teens in the Netherlands smoke pot as compared to teens in the United States.

Any argument that incest is bad because inbreeding causes genetic problems (which is true) is, by definition, eugenic. Just a thought.
  4. It might have been, but probably also depended on the Jmods using a different version of the runescape client. Too bad about the whole hubbub that erased the ability of jmods to do fun things like that.
  5. I certainly hope you aren't trying to posit your moves with half wines as simply "untraditional" merchanting. 1) It was collusion 2) Collusion is unethical and illegal in the real world for a reason 3) Your risks in that endeavor were zero- forcing half wines off the market were in no way a bluff because of your control over supply 4) HWOC = OPEC = cartel Ethical debates apply here exactly the same way as they do in the real world- the fact that this is a game doesn't really change anything, except that your unethical actions have an insignificant impact on people's lives, as opposed to the real world. That impact, however, doesn't change the ethical-ness of your actions.
  6. I understand some people are going to disagree with my money-making methods, but to say I am simply posting to boost my ego is a personal attack that I think is uncalled for. I am posting this because I think many people will find it interesting, as I have never really explained what happened with the Half Wine rise. The rest of your post is basically a flame and I won't get involved with it. Of course its a personal attack, and I *obviously* don't agree on whether it was uncalled for- I don't recall anyone posting on the forum to ask why the half wine jump occurred, and the way you go about explaining it is entirely self-congratulatory. As for disagreeing with your methods, I obviously don't disagree that it was effective, but I would consider your silence on whether or not it was at all ethical to be more than enough.
  7. His banning i couldn't care less about, i am apathetic on people that sell GP. What I was remarking on was his half wine and white party hat manipulations. Though not illegal on Runescape by any means, it certainly is illegal if attempted in real life. Not only does r2-pleasent have a broken moral compass, he: 1) in no way deserves respect for being able to manipulate prices in a game filled with naive youngsters 2) Would most definitely get eaten alive in the real world, where people are smarter, more ruthless, and things like this are most definitely illegal (possibly explaining why he spent so much time on runescape instead of something actually productive) 3) Is only posting this because he wants yet more throngs of people heralding the ground he walks on. Your escapades are nothing more than an unimpressive (though interesting) anecdote.
  8. Regardless of whether or not your moves were legal, they didn't just toe the ethical line, they jumped across. I'm not quite sure why you bothered posting, except perhaps to inflate your already oversized ego.
  9. money > community I'd do the exact same thing if i were in their position.
  10. Second Life is an exception because its currency (Linden dollars) are bought with real money and vice versa. There's even a fluctuating exchange rate based on the market.
  11. Then imagine how many tokens it would have taken you with a ring.
  12. Make sure you wear a ring of wealth
  13. Stop complaining. It is almost guaranteed that the ratio of complaints to CS personnel is MASSIVE. You whiners have no idea how many separate issues people have to deal with every day. They are human, they make mistakes, its not intentional, get over it.
  14. I disagree with you as to Locke's arguments. The basic premise of everything he said, that everything is the fault of the minorities because they look up to bad role models and don't act like others (which generalizes and stereotypes to a degree that becomes even painful to watch) is ignorant to the point of laughability. Regardless of his ability to word his arguments well, wrapping the droppings in a nice box in no way disguises its contents. On an irrelevant note, my aggressive wording is what's necessary to shake people out of their ignorance- something that eloquent grammar and artful wordplay sometimes doesn't have the power to do. As for me taking amusement in his choice of thread coinciding with his choice of screenname, it was certainly worth pointing out, seeing as how few people probably knew of Locke's stance on enslavement. And yes, that does taint Locke's musings on things like a social contract, because it is impossible to separate his view on a social relation like slavery and his views on governments and the governed. Your example of Martin Luther King Jr. does not apply because the fact that he was an adulterer does not make him a hypocrite on civil rights. If he owned slaves, on the other hand, that would certainly apply. I do agree with Mad4u in that your worldview is highly unlikely to change, but i will leave you with this grain of salt: white teenagers that act "gangster" have the ability to hide their taste in music simply by speaking differently and wearing different clothing- a black person has no way to hide the fact that they are black, and thus extremely likely to be stereotyped as a thug gangster that wants to do nothing but rape and steal. I'm also too lazy to respond to people that rehash what someone said earlier in the thread, so either say something new or give an answer to one of our statements from earlier.
  15. Jirka, affirmative action admits that white privilege is a stark reality in today's society and seeks to amend that problem. It's institutionalized racism that makes the claim that certain races are inferior to others. This whole "gangsters" argument i haven't responded to yet because its so shockingly ignorant that it's hard to be able to put a response into words- it's like trying to argue with someone that says "but pedophilia is a good thing!".....it's hard to come up with anything besides "no, you're very wrong".
  16. Locke, out of everyone who argued against affirmative action, your's was by far the worst and weakest. Your argument, whether you want to admit it or not, is that minorities should act like whites if they want to avoid racism. Not only is that comment ludicrous in whether or not that actually works, it is both racist in its pretense and oppressive. And the claim about your user name was irresistible and quite relevant- your admiration for a man like Locke certainly speaks volumes as to your credibility on a topic like this.
  17. First of all, your attempt to generalize your experience with the black people you know is not the slightest bit indicative of well, anything. Poor white people exist, black people born into wealth and status also exist. The rest of your arguments can be answered by the following fact: White privilege still exists as a hierarchal system in the United States. As of yet, everyone who has argued with me on this thread has yet to even have the stones to admit that, much less disagree with me. If it is in fact true that white privilege is a fact of life, that privilege by logic is the result of something, that something being the oppression of minorities throughout U.S. history. That system continues to be perpetuated today, despite all your claims of "diversity" (read: buzzword) and "multiculturalism" (read: buzzword to avoid being labeled as racist). So, if white privilege exists, how does that affect your idea of a level playing field? Oh yeah. Abraham Lincoln was and always will be a racist. Using him as an example is like saying the last grand wizard of the KKK was a leading proponent of equality.
  18. The requirement when my high school gave blood is 17 years and 110 pounds in weight. And if you want any incentive for being willing to endure the needle stick, take this anecdote with you: My parents sent me to a doctor because they thought i was having problems and losing weight. My doctor randomly decided to give me a full blood workup, where we were all shocked to discover i was infected with chronic Hepatitis B. Surprise! Now its off to the doctor every 2 weeks to draw 9 vials for progress checks. Worth it? Every painful second. Besides, if you get the cute nurse to take your blood, it always goes near-painlessly :P
  19. Locke's views taint all of his philosophical musings. Another fun fact: Abraham Lincoln was a labor activist, not a champion against racism. He believed in the superiority of whites over all other races, especially blacks, but believed that blacks should be paid a fair days wage for work.
  20. The hilarious irony of your chosen forum name almost doubled me over with laughter. After all, what's funnier than being lectured on race from someone who names themselves after a major investor in the slave trade through the Royal Africa company that also helped draft the constitution of the carolinas which gave slaveowners absolute power over their slaves?
  21. The reason I don't include discussion of Asians such as myself is because the average household income for Asian families is in fact higher than any other racial group in the U.S., and the reason I'm focusing on blacks is because they are the largest minority group, receive the worst treatment out of any group, and are the statistical majority among minorities. Regardless of whether or not some of the people posting are intentionally being racist, pointing it out to them is also part of the learning process. The only thing worse than an intentional racist is a well-meaning unintentional racist.
  22. That the person, in a job setting, can do the job. Unfortunately, due to a structure of privilege and racist hierarchy, they haven't gotten the chance to even show they can do it. That's where affirmative action comes in. In a college app setting, that the person can get their degree. Unfortunately, growing up in a setting that many many minorities grow up in, they didn't even get a chance at the requisite test scores and school performance to qualify on paper. Unless you actually start telling me that everyone that benefits from affirmative action failed at their job and failed out of college, or even a real percentage, you can't prove that affirmative action is bad.
  23. Because qualified doesn't always come across in GPA, test scores, and work internships. That applies across the board, not just to minorities.
  24. What all, and I mean all, of you don't realize is the only reason that affirmative action might be a bad system is because of the following statistic: An overwhelming majority of those who benefitted from affirmative action were WHITE WOMEN.
