Wouldn't discharge counter lighning rod due to it hitting everything. Also, Gyarados shouldn't be fearing electric anyways. There's always Jolteons, Electivires, Gliscors, or something else waiting behind the lines to take Gyarados's spot. People rarely go after Gyara with an electric attack until they have scouted out the opponent's team, or have little to no choice. Unfortunately, most Stone Edges are also used unSTABed nowadays. You don't see a lot of rock types anyhow... barring everyone's hated/favorite Tyranitar. Speaking of Tyranitar, it's usually status, sandstorm/hail, and stealth rock that gets to Gyarados, not his electric or rock weakness.

Strange Fruit?
I remember having a strange fruit collection competition with a friend. I had about 250 or so, he had 300. When the GE first came out, I put an offer for 500 as a joke. I still have over 700 strange fruits in my bank. Although, if they're over 1k each now... I only paid 600 for each of them I think. \

Jagex being Ignorant? RWT Related
http://itemdb-rs.runescape.com/viewitem.ws?obj=311 http://itemdb-rs.runescape.com/viewitem.ws?obj=303 This is certainly amusing. A change over 70% in prices, lowering the good so much that it is equal to the buying price. I think it's pretty clear what's happening here. A recent somewhat popular "junk making" method was to quickly purchase goods with a low store price and a high GE price. The banker is Piscatoris also sold fishing nets and harpoons at 5 coins apiece. They were worth roughly ten times that, although not very easy to sell. The change was meant to stop this from becoming an RWT method. After all, there is the potential that someone would make a macro of some sort to rapidly purchase these goods, and use them as junk for RWT trades. So... what's the problem with this decision? Take a look at this. http://itemdb-rs.runescape.com/viewitem.ws?obj=9978 Why is Raw Bird being affected? Unlike Fishing Nets and Harpoons, there is a pretty solid market for these. The price may fluctuate, but people are willing to pay for the convenience of not having to buy their own Raw Bird for making pouches. I don't know the actual value of Raw Bird, but I *do* know that time is money, and that the time spent purchasing these birds is worth more than the 0 gp that Jagex set the price to. This is nothing new. Price ceilings have existed before for items that are store-bought, such as berserker helms and the like. But applying them to items traded in bulk, with stores being the prime source, is certainly new. This is likely to create a similar but opposite problem to that of Maple Longbow (u). Recently, Jagex has taken a harsher stance on RWT, shutting down Dragonstone trading, and trying to defeat BH trading as well. Unfortunately, it's not working, since new RWT methods have seemingly arisen (I'm not sure on this, they may be rumors, but just at a glance, it seems people who are RWTing are still going strong). Jagex's steps now, though, seem ominous at best. Are they making mistakes that will lead to more RWT, rather than less? Do we need another Opulent Table situation?

Another Anti-Gameplay Update from Jagex
They aren't an issue anymore? You'll have to send me your Jagex mod username, considering you know so much about what's going on in the company. Actually, anyone who's willing to peruse websites permissive towards extralegal activity in MMORPG would know that botting and gold farming are nearly extinct methods of harvesting gold. Grand Exchange merchanting/manipulation is the most dominating method of collecting money, although phishing and dragonstones have been popular as well. The problem with botting is that there are very few ways to get money off a low level account, not to mention, I don't know exactly how but from all accounts, Jagex has cracked down hard on bots. Gold farming has died off because, simply put, BH isn't as safe as some people make it out to be, and not a job for employees who barely know what they're doing and being paid a dollar an hour (if they're lucky). RWT is still the cause of some less respectable aspects, such as phishing and Grand Exchange manipulation, but it's nowhere near the problem that any of you are making it out to be. And sadly enough, I can report that after months on these shadier websites, I still have yet to find someone selling a Divine Spirit Shield. Oh, and interestingly enough, removing BH seems to have done nothing anyways. Or it might... I'm not sure. Most of those gold selling merchanting businesses are still going strong, but since I don't particularly care to RWT, I don't know if they're bluffing about having a method to look good, or whether they're actually selling something. If the rumors are true and there are already new methods going around, I feel sorry for the PvP fanatics... they're suffering yet another blow now, with an update that really has little to no benefit.

In Soviet Russia...
Star Wars Battlefront was the cats pyjamas. Exactly. Both of them were excellent. There was like a total of three bugs for Battlefront and i have found none for BF 2. Battlefront owns. You didn't play Battlefront 2 enough then. It was still an awesome game, but it was filled with bugs. On the other hand, you have Lego Star Wars: The Original Trilogy for the DS where the levels are impossible 50% of the time thanks to the camera glitching up and locking you into an area + stopping you from moving out of it, and half of the "secret" items being impossible to reach. :wall: Probably the worst video game I've ever bought, beating out HMDS. In any case, I think it has to do with the fact that books based on games tend to suck. There are definitely exceptions, as I recall the MTG books being fairly decent. However, especially with most of today's games, they lack enough story substance to really write a book on. Look at Runescape for example. If you base a story off your character's adventure, it's really kind of... depressing, to say the least. You went on a vital mission to stop a great demon from taking over Varrock. You're constantly told the demon is getting stronger and stronger. Somehow, you get killed by the demon. Guess what? You come to life and go back and kill the demon. Meanwhile, the hero's personality is inconsistent at best, breaking the 4th wall at worst. Trying to save the Stone of Jas from Lucien... guess what? There's no chance of success at all. No matter how fast you finish the quest, you get there just in time to see him leaving with it. Or, you could be slow as heck, even killed several times during the quest... and you still get there just in time. Runescape lacks sufficient story substance to build a book on, as do many other games. However, people try to write books anyways, without coming up with original content for the book. It sounds like the author of the Runescape novel did not make this mistake, as I've heard good things about it, but this reputation remains, hence, books based on video and computer games are typically considered subpar. Also, keep in mind that Runescape is usually already considered nerdy, even by some who play it...

Are you asking about people here or elsewhere? I didn't use AR codes (past tense since I haven't touched the game for a while now) except for cloning (for event Pokemon) and no timer (for VS Seeker and Pokeradar, walking around between activations got redundant). The best way to IV Breed is to just use two hacked parents (trade for them on Gamefaqs or something) with 31 in all, then pretty much every child with have two 31s... just keep hatching until you get the 31s where you want them and you have the right nature (use an everstone). Going for near perfects is a waste of time. However, you could just also play on Shoddy or Netbattle, which is a simulator that lets you use whatever IVs you want.

25th February 2009 - Evil Tree + patch notes.
So now that it's fixed, can someone explain how it worked? I thought everyone knew already? Player A is giving money to Player B for one reason or another. Both players get Karamja Gloves (at least 1). Player A gets 25 uncut Dragonstones Player B gets several obsidian items of different types (fast method), or huge piles of fire runes Player B sells the obsidian items (one of each type at a time) or the fire runes (1 tokkul each) to get a pile of tokkul. This comes out to 10-12 GP per tokkul via items, 9 gp per tokkul via fire runes. Both players gather at the gem store. Player A sells 25 uncut dragonstones and gets ~4K Tokkul. Player B buys the dragonstones for ~18K tokkul, and sells it back to player A for ~1.2M cash. There was a limit so you could only do this twice every few hours, making for a total of 4, maybe 6 trades per day. So... if anyone ever wanted to try BH-ing, now would be a good time since all the dragonstone traders are probably resorting to BH now. Unfortunately it's still fairly safe unless you're unlucky enough to get 2 people on you + your target + a rogue.

About Timmy and the Hacker
I think you've completely, absolutely misunderstood all my posts, or never bothered to read them. I can't be bothered responding to all of that, especially since from reading your posts in the last thread I saw you posting in, you can be a little dense, so I will just summarize what I've said again and see if it gets through: I was commenting that Jagex has not put a great amount of effort into combating this particular brand of RWT and the phishing attempts that follow. I am not saying that they should. I am saying that they could. And try Googling RIAA intimidation. It works for them, and it worked to a degree for WoW. I was not trying to criticize Jagex. I was just pointing out that saying that the people stating Jagex has put an enormous effort towards solving issues like this are over exaggerating. Warnings and requests are NOT an enormous effort. Going all the way and changing game content is. And do me a favor... just don't bother responding, since I have an opinion of you probably no kinder than your opinion of me, so it would be pointless at best.

Oh I see lol. I thought you were serious about going into a semi-competitive battle with Aurora Beam and Psybeam... XD Still, I have a new team I made. It's completely UU, and it's working out semi-OK so far. If you want I'll battle you sometime with it. Or anyone else. It's on Shoddy right now but I could build a similar team pretty fast on the DS, and since WiFi lets you raise all Pokemon to 100, leveling doesn't matter.

About Timmy and the Hacker
I'd get nervous and recheck the websites but it's not hard at all to replicate or fake well... just ask anyone with a good amount of experience with such things. Also, I'm willing to bet plenty of the phishing websites ARE hosted in this country, or in countries where Jagex can hold legal influence. Ever heard of the pirate bay? Suits are being filed against it right now by American corporations despite it being hosted in another country. You can't shut ALL of them down, but they can try to take down some of them. Also, what about the constant flood of people in game telling you "Go to letmehacku dot cee oh em for free Geepeez!"? Both autos for spamming messages and naming websites is against the rules, yet these people get by for a day or more, and when shut down, simply replace it. Of course, these are always placed in more crowded areas, like W2 GE... is it so hard to get a J-Mod to drop in every hour or so and kick them out? There's probably less than 5 locations that these people target, where they'd have an effect anyways. And removal of weak passwords has nothing at all to do with phishing, because a phishing site will steal your password complex or not if you type it in, which is why it has nothing to do with the situation I'm talking about. The point is that Jagex has proven itself resourceful when approaching problems. However, they allow a very blatant rule breaking industry (RWT) knowingly, instead of trying to find a solution. And as a result, some players suffer from it. All they do is put up warnings and messages... they could do a lot more. They could fix the loopholes that permit 99% of the RWT exchanges, that are also causing harm to the game itself. They could hire more employees and crack down on these rule breakers legally and in-game. But they don't.

What else can they do? Make it impossible to log in to your account without a retina and fingerprint scan? Lock your bank account for 24 hours until they can prove that you're you every time you log in? Give me a freaking break. Jagex has done way too much already in educating their players about hackers, and they've done everything BUT change the BH drop system to mimic PvP worlds to stop RWT. There's already been a hell of a lot done to prevent idiots like Timmy from gaining an upper hand. There is a point in time when no one but the victim can claim responsibility for their own stupidity. I lol'd. But honestly, he deserved that, he was a RWT, I'm just sick about those people buying success in game What else can they do? How about fix the Grand Exchange prices, Bounty Hunter, and the dragon stone situation so that RWT is far more limited and these phishers have less incentive for phishing? How about filing a law suit against people making phishing sites, and force them to put up hundreds of thousands of dollars to defend themselves or surrender their business? This sounds awfully like the justification for luring. "The victim deserved it so the criminal is innocent." I've received nonstop e-mails from my college throughout the past few months. Every other week, at least, someone at the University of Washington is foolish enough to walk around through the streets of Seattle, alone, drunk, at 1 or 2 in the morning. And then they get robbed. Is the mugger innocent? Sure, the idiot deserved to be mugged for being so incredibly dumb. But that doesn't excuse the lowlife mugger who would prey on people who make a mistake, however stupid. We still hunt these criminals down and put them in prison. So why is it fair to place the blame entirely on the victim, and give free reign to the criminals just because "the victim deserved it?"

About Timmy and the Hacker
How is WoW completely irrelevant? I hate the game, personally, but it doesn't change the fact that as the most popular game in the world, it draws ALL the attention, especially when it is part of a genre that gets very little attention anyways. MMORPGs are becoming bigger and bigger, but are still shunned to the side in the news, especially in the current global economic condition. They invested a lot of resources. But most of it seems completely wasted. You changed the log-in screen... big deal, it'll take a phishing site 20 minutes to fix theirs. you changed the website layout... again, big deal. Now it's easier to find the message that players don't pay attention to. And then, Andrew personally states on the Runescape home page that Junk Trading is "okay" because it lets people trade at the prices they feel are right. Is he implying that the other methods, D Stones, and BH are okay too? Is he really blind to these being used for RWT, which is spurring these phishing sites? Or how about the prices they set? Corr. Morrigan Javelins 5k each, Corr. Morrigan Javelins (p) 30k each, nope no problems there. Dragon Claws at 300k with scimitar speed and ridiculously powerful special, along with its incredibly low drop rate and the only monster dropping them requiring all quests complete... no problems there either. It doesn't feel to me as if they've poured anywhere near sufficient resources into combating hackers and phishing sites. While victims are certainly at fault, that does not excuse the criminals. There was a huge debate over whether luring should be permitted a few years ago, and that was my belief then as well. Rules need to be enforced. Where's the legal suits against these websites? Where's the GE fix that would solve many of the current RWT problems, as well as making the game better as a whole? Why have they not put more effort into their testing, or opened some sort of beta server testing system for new content? Reworked website / login - Useless. Sorry, but having a "Don't visit other websites!" sign that no one reads in a more accessible place doesn't help. Having a new layout that requires perhaps half an hour to copy doesn't help. Security Stronghold? I don't know about the rest of you, but I blazed through the thing, randomly clicking answers until it let me through the stupid door so I could get the emotes. Warnings don't cut it. Telling people not to do something doesn't work. When telling people not to RWT or Auto didn't work, Jagex pulled out their big guns and pointed them straight at the rule breakers. When people are robbing naive or foolish players, Jagex just ignores them. Again, where's the lawsuits to shut these websites down? Where are the anti-RWT measures to prevent the rule breakers from profiting? Recent Removal of Weak Passwords? How does this help the slightest when it comes to phishing sites? My point is that telling someone not to do something isn't "a lot of resources" compared to what they have done in other cases. Be it telling rule breakers not to break rules, or warning players not to fall for the tricks, it's simply not enough. With the macro and gold farmer situation, Jagex found a unique solution, reaching to the heart of the problem within the game itself. With the phishing situation, Jagex continues putting up warning signs, but does little else. What could they do? First, fix the GE prices. There have been thousands of solutions posted on RSOF, on Tip.It, etc, and thousands of debates on it. BH is obviously not threatening enough the way it is now, seeing as people are still using it for BH trades all the time. In fact, BH is a failure overall, because as long as you have a trustworthy clan of sufficient size, RWT should always be possible. Keep up the PvP content and remove the failed bounty hunter, or make it even more dangerous than it is now and fix the glitches (such as killing the RWTer with a pickup timer and picking it up after it fades). Why is the Tokkul Price for Dragonstones so low? That is an obvious and easy fix. Why was Dragon Claws 200k? Anyone with half a brain should've realized that 200k was horribly, horribly off from the true value. Set up a Beta Test server and select a few players to "try" things out, and hopefully start with better prices. There's dozens of things they can do besides just tell people "Don't set up phishing sites! Don't advertise websites! Don't go to other websites!" Timmy is certainly at fault, I won't deny that, but that does not excuse the criminal. Jagex has proven that they can do more than simply put up warnings, and they have done little in this situation.

Online is pretty much in-game unless you're going into meta-game tactics. Fast, powerful offense, forget about defense since it won't make a difference anyways. Realize that in-game doesn't refer to fully in-game play, but to anything outside of competitive play. And Pikachu fails? Seriously? With Light ball, Pikachu has higher attack than Groudon (who's highest stat is 150 Base Attack) and almost as high as Slaking and Regigigas (160 Base Attack), AND higher special attack than Alakazam (who has 135 Base Special Attack), and barely lower than Kyogre (2 points) (150 Base Special Attack). This, and 90 Speed, which is pretty substantial, as well as access to: Thunderbolt (No, really?) Volt Tackle (Don't use this on a Blissey) Surf Grass Knot Brick Break Thunder Punch As well as various stat ups, and HP for some Ice coverage if desired. The only thing holding Pikachu back is the lack of choice in items, the weakness to priority attacks which are rampant due to Scizor, and the speed-oriented meta game. Do you actually have WiFi? If so, I'll get a team ready sometime and play against you once... there's a difference between trying something new, and doing something silly like carrying Psybeam and Bubblebeam. EDIT: Was that Octillery set a joke? Or did you seriously list Aurora Beam (65 attack, 10% of Attack -1) over Ice Beam (90 Attack, 10% of freeze) and Psybeam (65 Attack, 20% confuse) over Psychic (90 Attack, 10% of Special Defense -1)? Did you know switching removes stat changes and confusion? >.<

About Timmy and the Hacker
"Devoted a lot of resources to raise awareness and make it harder for hackers to [...]"? Bull feathers. Their defense against unrelated RWT (RWT not tied to macro-ing or gold farming industries) is a rule that prohibits people from spreading website names and reiterating the same, ancient warning of "don't visit any websites" or whatnot. Guess what? Had I followed that, I would never have found Tip.It or RuneHQ. These warnings have been proven time and time again to be nearly worthless. Whilst, their defense against RWT that's causing harm to their game is to make massive game changes limiting the play style of all current players. You have an interesting definition of "lot of resources." Jagex willingly allows Runescape to coexist with Junk Trading, BH Trading, Dragonstone Trading, etc. They put little to no effort in preventing horribly miss-priced goods, as shown by the Corr. Morrigan's Javelins transfer method, or the Dragon Claws, or the Dragon Plate. They do little to rectify the situation on items that have long since existed as an RWT / trade limit bypass, Divine and Elysian Spirit Shields and 3a gear. While Runescape isn't truly as bad as the article portrays it, the article isn't that far off. Jagex could do a lot more about these situations, but they choose not to. Besides, the whole "making Runescape look bad" is already done by WoW. Better graphics, and many, many more subscribers describe the fee being thrice Runescape's. Most popular MMO in the world. And keeping that in mind, do you really think any media source would care enough to follow up on an article considering how few people would read it?

Ray, since you're really just going through in-game, bothering with defensive Pokemon is a waste of time. You'll get through much easier with a solid offensive team with good type coverage. Here are the one's I'd recommend: Infernape (Starter) Pikachu w/Light Ball if you can get one (Trophy Garden, light ball is held by wild Pikachu occasionally) Weavile (Near the Ice city) Those 3 work very well. Also, can you get Abra early? If so, Alakazam would be a great choice too, has speed and power. Staraptor isn't bad either, and Haunter/Gengar would be great if you don't mind the slightly redundant coverage with Alakazam. Of course you might want to save a slot for an HM slave. If you want a water type, unless you have the patience to try for Milotic, you really don't have many choices. Gyarados is there if you're willing to use him, fast and powerful. Starmie would be a good choice if you could get it but I don't remember if it appears pre-national dex.

ROMs and Emulators- Ok or No?
A perfect example is Mother 3 for the GBA. Every Mother/Earthbound fan has always wanted to play the sequel to one of the best RPGs ever made in their own language. Or any of that series for that matter. Those games are rarer than an intelligent person on /b/. Personally, I think that there is nothing wrong with having a ROM if the game is not in your language/ very [bleep] rare. Other than being illegal still, there's nothing wrong. Does it really matter though? The companies aren't making money off them anymore, or not in the specific region. Some never plan to release them in other countries. I also guarantee if they did release certain games, people with the ROMs would still buy them. Well, I didn't say it matters. Like I said before, there's what is legal, and there's what is acceptable from your own moral perspective. As long as you don't own the game and make your own ROM, and retain the original game, ROMs are illegal, and you are susceptible to copyright infringement litigation regardless of your personal excuse. Now, admittedly, most of us (including myself) care less about what the law says, than the risk and your own personal opinion of whether it's right or wrong. Also, there are plenty moral justifications for piracy, even for new games. I know someone who pirated recent DS games. However, the two that I know of, he would never have purchased anyways. However, as a result of liking these games, he is now considering buying their sequels or similar titles from the same company on other platforms. This hasn't harmed the company the slightest. For older games, there is of course the "I'm not going to waste time trying to buy it from Ebay, and it gives me an experience I never had a chance to buy in the first place." There's Japanese games which never come to America as well. There are plenty of moral excuses for piracy, and in truth, many of them are well-reasoned. However, just keep in mind that no matter how rational it is to pirate a game, it is still illegal.

There's an M rating on it for a reason, aka not meant for kids. ;) Still doesn't stop parents from buyin them for the kids. <--Owns over 20+ M rated games and not once attempted to murder.. Hey I only said murder. Wouldn't that be the store's fault, or that of the parent's? I mean, I too own several M-Rated games, notably Diablo and Diablo II, and I have owned them for many, many years, but you can't fault a video game or movie company for this. It's the parents who are making the decision that their children are mature enough (which can be right or wrong, depending on the situation), and the customers who are sneaking into the movies and lying about their age, and the employees at those retailers and theaters who aren't doing a good job checking.

ROMs and Emulators- Ok or No?
Okay well, first let's get the legal situation out of the way. Emulators are 100% legal. There is no law against using an emulator. However, Roms are ONLY legal IF you make them yourself. That is, if you have the actual game, and make a backup of it, that's legal. Otherwise, roms are illegal. Even if you own a copy of it, downloading one is still illegal. R4, M3, and other flashcart devices are legal, similar to emulators. However, downloading roms to play on them is not. If you have the equipment to create a backup of your own games, then you may do this legally. However, note that in most cases, using any sort of backup device nullifies any warranty or company guarantee on that game. Now, barring the legality of it, The truth is, it doesn't really matter if something is illegal or not. What matters is whether it actually has a cost to others, whether it is in accordance with your own moral code, and whether someone will come after you legally for your actions. It has been found in multiple court cases that yes, piracy does have a cost to the businesses in question. However, this really varies on how you use the emulator and roms. Question, is this a game you would have purchased, giving your money to the actual company? If this is a 15 year old game, then any copies the company has manufactured have already been distributed. Whether you pirate it or buy it from Ebay will have literally no impact on the company. Is this a Japanese version of a game you intend to buy when it is released in America, or will never be released in America? If it will never be released in America, is it a game you'd consider actually importing? No one can answer what it means to your own moral code, because that's yours. Your beliefs, and your opinions. Now, will someone come after you? The truth is, I wouldn't worry about this. Yes, someone may come after you. But companies that attack possible pirates do so almost at random. There was a huge case where a young girl (under 10 years old) was being sued for piracy. She lived with her great grandmother, in such impoverished conditions that they had no computer, or heck, barely any electronic devices. Whether you get sued or not doesn't seem to really depend on whether you're actually pirating software. Am I condoning piracy? Of course not. But I'm not going to deter you either, if you think that's the best option for you. Do realize, though, that most of the "it's okay if _____" rules are entirely fictional. Such as the "delete it within 24 hours and you're fine" rule. Sorry, but that's complete bull, and I have no idea who or where that rumor started. I was fooled by it too, when I was 12 or so and playing GBA emulators since my allowance was too little. The only way to legally own a rom is if you make it yourself, from a game you purchased and have ownership over, and you must delete any such roms if you are to give, lose, or lend out the game. I want to say that's just a rumor, owning a ROM no matter what is illegal because it is an illegal copy. It all comes down to your morality (again) instead of law in this case. Actually, a recent court case ruled that it's perfectly legal to create the ROM, but you must create it yourself from a game you own, and you can not distribute it. You also can not give away or lend the game without deleting the ROMs you created. Once you distribute a ROM, it becomes illegal, so accepting it is illegal as well.

Amazon Halts Sale of Japanese "Rape" Game
So you're not ok with rape being simulated in a game, but you're ok with people getting skinned alive being simulated in a game? It's no secret that the video game industry isn't exactly the role model for society's standards, hell many game creators are terrorists by definition. Everyone understands it's not real, and should not be perceived as real. This is why rape being simulated in a game is perfectly fine by me. Video games like this are like abortions for real world crimes, you get the experience (to a degree) with no strings attached. If anything, a better analogy would be masturbation, or watching porn videos. I'm sure that stealing a car in a game, or assassinating a president in a game, or raping a 10 year old girl in a game, is nothing like actually stealing a car, or assassinating a VIP, or raping a 10 year old girl. ;)
