  1. Rune defender has fairly high attack bonuses (Over a 25% increase on a whip, for example) which is very helpful during slayer and such. In actuality, Rune Defender isn't all that useful for training on things such as rock crabs. Also, Rune Defender is still inferior to the better shields in this game. The difference, though, is that a rune plate is 60K. A Dragonfire shield is over 10M, Divine and Elysian Spirit Shields are over 500M. For Fighter's Torso, there's plenty of alternatives, most of them better. The only low cost alternative shields are really prayer books, Rune Kiteshield, Granite Shield, and Toktz-Ket-Xil. Granite and TKX are used when range defense is necessary. Prayer books are inferior to Rune Defenders unless you need prayer, and yes, people do use those for prayer bonus on occasion. Fighter Torso's unique aspect is +4 strength, which is really not all that helpful, as pointed out, it doesn't even always increase your max hit, and when it does, it only increases it by 1 or so. Rune Defender is unique for its attack bonuses for melee, which are large enough to make a difference on almost any higher level monster. You gain experience and other drops while killing Cyclops, you don't gain these bonuses from BA. All in all, it comes to the same thing. If you like Barbarian Assault, then by all means, get the Torso. It's nowhere near the best piece of equipment, but it's not the worst either. However, it's not worth it to play 6-8 hours of a game solely for an item that's inferior to several other alternatives.
  2. Just some quick facts about the three items in this category: Max RFD Gloves: - Best in melee attack - Best in range attack - Best in magic attack - Second in melee defense (Loses to Dragon Gauntlets by +2, +3, +3) - Third in magic defense (Loses to 3a Vambraces by +3, D'hide Vambraces by +2) - Second in range defense (Loses to Dragon Gauntlets by +2) - Best in strength - Loses to white gloves in prayer (It has 0 like all other gloves, besides the aforementioned, which has +1) Judging by those, Max RFD is pretty much the best pair of gloves available for almost every activity. The minor trade off in defenses is more than compensated by a much higher gain in attack bonuses, which are particularly important in magic and range (Not so much in melee, actually.) The strength bonus is high enough to make a significant difference. The lack of prayer bonus stinks, but there aren't really any options there. White Gloves are practically leather gloves with +1 prayer. There are very few situations in which +1 prayer would be more beneficial than +12 all attacks and defenses (+6 magic). Fire Cape - Only Cape with attack bonuses to melee (Only +1) - Best defenses (Beats out Skill Cape(t) by +2) - Inferior to Accumulator in range attack (+1 versus +4) - Inferior to God Capes in magic attack (+1 versus +10) - Inferior to Skill Cape(t) in prayer (+2 versus +4) - Only Cape with strength bonuses (+4) This is a more debatable item. Unlike the Max RFD gloves, depending on the situation, there is usually another cape that's as good or better. +1 attack bonus really doesn't mean a whole lot, while +2 prayer makes a huge difference. +4 strength is too low to really make a difference, you'll be lucky to gain +1 to max hit because of it. Also, it loses out on the ability to pick up arrows. While it's still a nice item, it's not quite as much of a "must-have" as the Max RFD gloves. Fighter's Torso - Completely inferior to Bandos Chestplate (Which is actually very useful, thanks to its defense bonuses (Range!!!), equal strength, and small prayer bonus) - Other than the aforementioned Bandos Chestplate, is the only non-degradable armor with strength. (+4) - Inferior to the Rune Platebody in defense - Inferior to Proselyte and Initiate in prayer As the thread creator pointed out, if you consider the fact that +4 strength really doesn't amount to much, you have a pretty useless piece of equipment here. It's potentially useful for training, if you train on a monster that doesn't harm you enough to require you to bring healing, and your strength is at the right point where the torso actually does raise your max hit by 1. However, even in those very rare situations, Proselyte is likely superior, because it can extend your attack / strength prayers. In a PvP situation, while a slightly higher max hit does make a knockout slightly more likely, the drastic drop in defense results in the torso helping your opponent more than it helps you. I've personally seen many more kills through two decent consecutive hits, than one completely maxed hit. __________________ To the person who complained that efficiency drained the fun from this game: If you find BA fun, then by all means, go ahead and gather points for your Torso. However, not everyone likes BA. One of my friends was recently told constantly by his other friends that "Fighter's Torso is the best!" and "Strength rules all!" He finally gave it a try, sat through several hours of a game he didn't even like, only to be disappointed with his reward. If you think the Fighter's Torso is great, that's fine, keep using it. But other players, particularly those who wouldn't play BA otherwise, should at least be given a better idea of how great the reward is, before they commit themselves to spending hours at it. Efficiency isn't meant to make the game boring. It's meant to make the boring parts end quickly, so you can enjoy the benefits while suffering less.
  3. Haha, you're real funny. I never knew the Torso was the best item ever. Funny. Tell me a better torso with more strength bonus you can wear at 45 defence and i'll get it. Tell me a better red torso with a black design in the center and chain in its name that you can wear at 60 defense. No? Then of course Dragon Chainbody is the best armor in the game. Strength bonus doesn't make a piece of armor good. What makes a piece of equipment "good" is whether or not it serves its purpose. +4 strength doesn't even always amount to a full point of damage all the time. Fighter's Torso: Low defense, doesn't even always increase your max hit by 1, and even if it does, 1 damage has a minimal effect, and requires 10 hours to get Rune Platebody: Mediocre defense, doesn't increase your max hit at all, costs 60K. Unless you actually enjoy BA, Rune Platebody wins hands down. Even in a PvP Situation, trading +30 defense for occasionally an extra point of damage isn't worth it. Your opponent's chance of killing you increases more than your chance of killing him/her. While training, depending on your setup, the strength may make training slightly faster. However, it is highly unlikely it'll compensate for ten hours of your time. If you ejoy BA, then by all means buy it and use it. But it's inferior to other equipment for practically all intents and purposes.
  4. Exactly what i was thinking, you took the words right out of my mouth :wall: RWT Seller buys AGS from the Grand Exchange. He loses 60M. RWT Seller sells AGS to the general store. He gains 500K. RWT Buyer buys AGS from the general store. He loses 48M. RWT Buyer sells the AGS to the Grand Exchange. He gains 60M. Net? RWT Seller loses 59.5M for RWT Buyer to Earn 12M. Is that really a big issue? Because you can already transfer faster and more efficiently than that through about a dozen other methods... if you used these figures directly, this method would transfer at an efficiency of 20%. Considering BH transfers are nearly risk free with the new techniques, and Jagex's constant mistakes with pricing (30k for a poisoned corrupted Morrigan Jav, 5K for a non poison... each weapon poison = 125K transferred), anyone who would actually use this as a method of transfer is probably pretty stupid.
  5. Note the lots. Tormented Demons and Corporeal Beast don't have lots. Plus, no one monster hunts big game on PvP. And obviously GWD is frozen solid. __________________________________ Tormented Demons = about 10 of them, and it's very difficult to fight one at once. Corporeal Beast used to be able to summon some 15-20 dark cores. I think this was changed, but even before this was, it was a hot spot. And Dark Cores are MUCH more dangerous than silly trolls will ever be. And KQ Lair then? Smoky slayer cave? Chaos tunnels?
  6. Why is Trollheim a hotspot, again?... Becuase of the agreesive trolls, If you read the KB it say's that Hotspots are places with lots of people or agressive monsters. GWD - Not a hot spot. CB's lair (even his room) - Not a hot spot. Tormented Demons - Not a hot spot. Kalphite Queen's Lair - Not a hot spot. KBD - Not a hot spot. ... ... Why is Trollheim a hotspot, again?...
  7. Just as clarification, in Runescape, weapon's have an attack speed on a scale of 1 to 10, although I believe the maximum for any player weapon is 7. 7 - Stealing Creation's SC Dagger, Darts, Knives 6 - Scimitar, Dagger, Sword, Claws, Shortbow, Abyssal Whip, Zamorakian Spear, Saradomin Sword 5 - Longsword, Mace, Spear, Crystal Bow 4 - Battleaxe, Warhammer, Crossbow, Godsword 3 - Halberd, 2H Sword, Granite Maul "Rapid" on ranged weapons raises the speed, approximately by one rank. So yes, Dagger, Whip, and Scimitar are all the same speed, unless you are referring to the dagger that you use in Stealing Creation.
  8. I'm pretty sure it's a graphical issue that delays it showing you moving next to your target...
  9. Yes, they're insane XP. However: For magic, you may as well use string amulet with unstrung holy symbols. Less clicking, better XP. Just teleport to say, Clan Wars, take 5 steps west, click it once, walk 5 steps east, use ring of dueling to bank. If you die... oh well you lose less than 30 astrals and unstrung amulets. No big deal. For cooking, same deal as for magic. Take a load of wild pies or summer pies and use the bake pie spell, which cooks them all in one click, with no chance to burn. You can't cook sharks with a 100% success rate because the gloves take up the slot used for cooking gauntlets (Unless you're 99 cooking using chef's delight, and if you're 99, why are you training cooking? Even so it's hardly worth the cost of chef's delight.)
  10. Is that like not reading the details of a thread where it is repeatedly explained that there was an update between the time the article was written and the time this was posted which removed the attack bonuses, but posting anyway without doing your own research? Like, for example, if by "fraction of the cost" you mean "exact same price" you would be accurate, since as of this morning D Plate and Bandos Chestplate have the exact same GE value of 11.5 Million. I found the D Plate in the Knowledge Base as soon as it was uploaded, only a day or so after the release, and it didn't give any attack bonuses. There were pictures posted by people who bought and wore a Dragon Platebody on the first day, again, no attack bonuses... However, it's worth noting that +4 strength bonus can mean a lot, but it can also mean nothing. No one has a perfect max hit formula yet, although 4-5 seems to be the borderline for an additional point of damage. That means that it is possible that the +4 strength has no impact whatsoever, pending on your level and other equipment.
  11. Meh. If they gave an hour, people would have [bleep] for a day. If they gave a day, people would want two. If they gave two, people would want a week. Do you see the trend here? This was the ONLY thing they could do, logically, after releasing that update. That is not to say that this whole travesty should have ever happened. I don't even have 99 Construction and I feel that Jagex stepped over the line to call those who used it BUG ABUSERS. That is an insult to every legitimate player out there. This should have NEVER happened. But given the fact that we don't live in a fantasy world, this is only thing that COULD HAVE happened. I've read and re-read that post. My understanding is, "We are treating this like a bug. If you used it, don't worry, we are not banning anyone for it." If you haven't understood yet, bug means whatever the hell they want it to. That was established when the SC easy points exploit existed. Jagex made it very clear that the bug abuse rule is a catch-all. If it's something they don't like, and it doesn't fall under any other rules, it's bug abuse. However, a thread on RSOF pleaded with Jagex to NOT ban people for "bug abuse" when the "bug" seems to fall into the gray zone. From what I read, I don't think Jagex is trying to insult anyone. And if the corrected version of the thread still insults you, then you are insulted too easily.
  12. Learn2Comprehend. Its just a shorthand way of saying 25k+, members status appropriate. Uhhh, YOU learn2comprehend. The player you DEFEAT must be risking at least 25K. That means that if a player has 25K of risk, while they can't get good drops themselves, they can still be killed for good drops by other players. You must risk 75K to get a good drop, but if you risk 25K, while you can't get a good drop, someone can get one from killing you.
  13. Really? You're easily surprised then. If they give a warning, of course people would quickly sell their flatpacks and make the profit they wanted. Other people will try to "squeeze it in" before the fix. The moment you saw the investment, and knew this was likely to change, you should've known the risk in buying materials / items.
  14. 7/10. Because, IMO, it's more interesting than threads of people getting skills or drops.
  15. Yet, myself, Madmanpur3, and Muddybob, a 3-man team with only one person with maxed stats, took down 2 beasts taking a total of about 40 damage both kills, using a method that's known to dozens of monster hunters... :wall: Yea. I'm sorry but the Corporeal beast isn't so tough. It takes a long time to kill, yes, but that's pretty much it. I think the right way to go is making armor boost HP. For example, any higher level armor should be split into "tiers": For Helmets: Tier 1 (+1): Adamant Med Helm, Fremmenik Helms (Warrior, Berserker, Archer, Farseer) Tier 2 (+3): Adamant Full Helm, Rune Med Helm, Neitiznot Helm, Karils, Ahrims Tier 3 (+5): Rune Full Helm, Torags, Veracs, Guthans, Dharoks Tier 4 (+7): Dragon Med Helm Tier 5 (+10): Dragon Full Helm No item actually "loses" anything. But less popular helms like the Dragon helms will now have some incentive for use. Also, another interesting addition is that for every 10 points you have, every food heals an extra hitpoint. If you scale the equipment, someone could potentially boost his max HP by ~50 HP. Food could be increased to heal 27 HP. This all comes at the lack of offense or prayer bonuses, however, so it's a choice. Another possible addition would be to make this apply to each bite of a pie / pizza / cake. If each bite of a pizza heals 16 HP, it makes it a more viable food for use as well, even if you have to take 2 bites. The biggest problem is that Jagex can't make stronger monsters and weapons at this point. A player can only have 115 HP, and even with prime equipment, reduce damage by a maximum of 30%. Another player, barring minigame specific stuff, can already inflict almost 80 damage with a Godsword, about that much with a Dragon Dagger, and over 95 damage with Dharoks. I have personally been taken from 115 HP to 0 HP once on accident at Corporeal Beast when something went horribly wrong. How much better can you make weapons without making defenses stronger? If weapons keep getting stronger and stronger, the newest ones would have no purpose. Say we have a weapon, a year from now, that hits 200s. So what if the next weapon hits 300s? It's totally and completely unnecessary. So what if the next boss monster hits 120s? The Corporeal Beast can already OHKO with Stomp + Claw.
  16. I don't think they're complaining about not being able to make the money. I think they're complaining that a bunch of people MADE a ton of money, then bragged about it, then before they could enjoy it too it got changed. I personally think it's their own doing anyways, and I still "lol @ people complaining" because they made a dumb move. I knew from the moment this update was made this would be changed so I didn't bother. Was I giving up 5-10M profit? Yes. But at the same time, I also gave up the risk of losing that much, or more.
  17. Protection from Magic does not affect dragonfire attacks from Bronze, Iron, Steel, or Mithril dragons. Protection from Magic is a substitute for Dragonfire Shield or Anti-Dragon Shield against Green, Blue, Red, Black, and most of their variations (Like KBD and Elvarg). Antifire potion is a bonus on top of whatever you're already using. That is, it will hardly have any effect if you're not wearing a shield or praying, but if you're wearing a shield and drink an antifire potion, it makes you completely immune.
  18. Just FYI, Jagex's new definition, as confirmed by various forum mods and Jagex mods is: "If we don't like it, it's bug abuse." There was a long thread on RSOF asking for clarification of the rule, since so many rulings tend to violate the letter of the rule. If you read "bug" as a software term, then there haven't been many bugs in RS recently. Probably not any publicized bugs since the infamous Construction PvP bug (where a certain player went PKing in Falador). If you take "bug" to mean anything Jagex does not intend, then at least half of our game today is, or was, bug abuse. After numerous people tried, and failed, to explain, the simplest conclusion is the one posted above. As one of the mods generously conceded, it's a "catch-all". Basically if they don't like what you're doing, and it doesn't fall under anything else, it's bug abuse.
  19. What else would they be? Is it just coincidence that I'm averaging about 900 cosmic runes every 1k chaos at ghostly warriors? How on earth could the drop rate of an item not be set? How would you code it? I agree with AlexDT There is no luck in the game. But it's frustrating how easy some players get drops. yeah, especially considering that I'be been hunting D* Monks for several days now, and still haven't got anything :wall: I killed Tormented Demons for 3-4 days and did 972 kills and got 9 Spirit shields and 1 Holy Elixir. So you get it eventually. I was not aware that tormented demons drop spirit shields. Or holy elixirs. That was a typo. Don't tell me that you weren't aware of that lol? And your the guy who made Guide on GWD bosses right? That was a sarcastic, smartaleck comment. Don't tell me that you weren't aware of that lol? :P And yea. But that was a while ago.
  20. What else would they be? Is it just coincidence that I'm averaging about 900 cosmic runes every 1k chaos at ghostly warriors? How on earth could the drop rate of an item not be set? 21. You never played RW did you? :\ All Viera have fairly dark skin, barring the Judge of Wings and her now extinct hybrid species... Edit: What the hell did it just do to my post...? Edit2: Okay forget it I'm taking the quote out since it's making a mess.
  22. The piece I highlighted, are you actually joking me? The Dragon Dagger can't hit over 60 easily. It just can't. Not once have I hit 30-30 or 25-35 with it. It's very inaccurate, you know that yourself. Dragon Claws are actually accurate when it comes to the special attack and most people that own a pair will tell you that. I've hit higher with my claws since I got them (the day after their release) then I have with a Dragon Dagger since I first got membership. :| You don't use the dagger enough then. I've hit multiple 30-30s or better with dragon dagger. Dragon claws is slightly more accurate... but not by as much as most people are claiming.
  23. 1. It's not his video. 2. Of course most of the specials in the video are good. Why would anyone make a video with bad specials? Having had a chance to PK with those claws before, they are good. But they are not as super godly as so many people are making them out to be. They are fairly weak as a primary attack weapon, and any high level PKer will be forced to use a scimitar instead of a whip because of these claws. Their special is more reliable than a DDS, but when my brother was using it in castle wars, it didn't do much better than a DDS on decent armor. It's basically a high level version of the dragon dagger, and I have a feeling that was what it was meant to be.
  24. I agree with the above, WGS was a disappointment in both difficulty and storyline for me. Summer's End was far more difficult. Even at 136, I died at least twice when I made a slight mistake. The only challenging part of WGS for me was killing the Black Knight Elites for their armor. I killed about 15 DARK Knight Elites before I realized something was seriously wrong. :wall:
  25. Actually Carl, it was already discussed in the other thread. There seems to be a pattern but it's not a fixed 100% - 50% - 25% - 25%. It seems to be that, barring a few rare hits, for every special attack, the damage from the first attack that hit is roughly equal in value to the total damage of the other three attacks. 36 - 18 - 10 - 9, for example, has 36 damage on the first attack, and 37 damage for the other three. This holds true far more often than the 100% - 50% - 25% - 25% theory, since even in that video, there are multiple hits like: 35 - 34 - 0 - 1 0 - 28 - 15 - 14 Or the like. However, it still doesn't explain the oddball hits like the 9 - 9 - 6 - 5 or the 12 - 11 - 6 -5 that I saw. My guess is that there are set patterns for your attack to follow, depending on which attack hit first. For example, if the first attack hit, the pattern could be: Full, Half, Quarter, Quarter Full, Half, Half, Zero Full, Full, Zero, Zero Half, Half, Quarter, Quarter That would explain the various patterns we seem, with one being more common. However, if the first attack were to miss, then it goes on to the next hit in the same way: Full, Half, Half Full, Full, Zero Then again, it goes on to the last 2 hits if the first two both missed. Full, Full Or if one of those missed, Full That theory seems more accurate than the one you have now, although I'm pretty sure it's flawed too, waiting to be proved wrong by yet another bizarre hit. But in general, it seems that the claws are inclined to hit fairly high with their special, and once you hit, all following blows will hit. Some may hit 0 or not hit at all because of the victim dying, but otherwise, their damage seems calculated off the first. As for the slight error (hitting a 1-0 instead of 0-0), I have no idea. I doubt it's rounding since Jagex's damage system always floors values...
