  1. I have always wanted rares removed from the game. That said, on the surface your idea sounds great, and it might work, but there are three problems it needs to overcome. 1. Inflation. Rich people routinely don't use most of their money, rather they purchase useful items, which can be, and often are, status symbols (ie rares - a van gogh painting or a 1933 US gold coin). They do this for a number of reasons, but at least one is investment potential - the rare might increase in value. Removing rares drastically decreases the available status symbols in the game, and one can reasonably expect that rich people will shift towards them (as we have no stock market or banks that pay interest). This will lead to broad inflation, and the second problem. 2. Those of us who are 85 plus slayers (99 here) have lamented the plummeting price of whips. AGS and SGS have fallen over 50% in the last year alone, and even Dclaws have reached their peak. Many lower level players enjoy buying their first 'rare' weapon or armor, but if this were to go into effect, the price of all of these items will increase. Perhaps this is 'right' or 'fair' or not. It makes no difference to me, but I can imagine that many players would be incensed to find a whip or AGS out of their price range due to the hoarding of such items by high level players. Many are also familiar with the skyrocketing animal masks, as they were pseudorares. One could expect far of this, which might also make some items hard for the majority of players to acquire. This is, what I would assume is, an unintended consequence of your program. 3. This leads to the third problem, the GP cap of 2.1b. Many players have 2.1b in GP, and party hat sets in the bank. Party hat sets are the most efficient way to store your wealth once your bank holds 2.1 GP, so many players have invested in them to augment their wealth beyond the cap. What would happen to them? If the cap is not raised they have effectively been robbed. If the cap is raised, it presents an alternative to investing in high level weapons and armor, but also opens the door to widespread general inflation due to the dramatically increasing money supply. These are complex issues and have the potential to affect far more of the playing populace than those who own rares. Consequently, the ramifications need to be carefully assayed prior to implementation.
  2. The scrolls are purely for completion's sake as one other has mentioned, though who knows if there will be an update.... 200 Skeletons 2k Earth Warriors (not a bad source of crimson charms if you are just looking to train) 1.5k Hill Giants 4k Lesser Demons 500 Hobgoblins 17.3k Jogres (camped there after charms came out for golds, took forever) Haven't managed to get any of the others, and I'm guessing imp will be the last one. Cb 135. Good luck on getting your scrolls.
  3. I'm hearing a lot more opinions, but not anything concrete. Why would mage level affect mage defense (along with defense level), but not similarly for range and range defense? Does anyone know of any tests, or links in knowledge base? I haven't had any luck answering this question there. Thanks!
  4. I have heard this rumor forever both in general and with respect to ahrim and karil. I know defense level is the prime component in determing defense against any type of attack, but does your range level in some way impact your range defense? Similarly for mage. Since I have heard plenty of rumors, I would appreciate something concrete to answer this question. Thanks!
  5. I can confirm that the damage done on monsters yields half the normal exp (i.e. 2 instead of 4 per hit point of damage done). I haven't pc'ed in a while until recently, so I'm not entirely sure if this was a change or not. It is disappointing though. I actually range (use dispensables), so it slows my range xp considerably.
  6. Lvl 99 slayer. No one is at dark beasts. They cost too much to kill, are hard to get to, and dark bows are quite rare. Plenty of people are still at abby demons. The drops besides whips are too good, and you can stay there all day with guthan's, and still make a heady profit. Few of the high level slayers actually attack demons in the slayer tower - most use the demons in the abyss. It is much closer to a bank. Why whip prices might be going up? I'm not sure they are, but if they are, it is from a combination of factors. The pc update has made the mini game much more popular, and a player doesn't have to worry about losing their whip during the game. Also, it is still the best weapon in the game. Prices bump up now again.
  7. Bear head from Mountain Daughter quest is +7 mage defense vs +6 mage defense for Karil's Coif.
  8. There is a good thread on official forums which shows that the drop rates is roughly 1/20k. They have over 1m kills and that is about how often the dchain occurs. Obviously this doesn't guarantee that killing 20k dustdevils will result in a dchain, that is not how statistics work. Still, it does show that the drop is very rare, but possible. Regardless dustdevils have great drops, and a dchain only sweetens the deal.
  9. I love this idea, and I think I would look rather snazzy in silver dhide armor or some such thing. That said, Jagex has a responsibility to ensure the game is somewhat balanced. Silver dhide, which needs 90 range to wield, would basically guarantee that any mage below lvl 90 wouldn't stand a chance. At this point the armor or the weapon, in a sense, overpowers stats. Yes, I know the stats are necessary to wield said item(s). Currently weapons and armor stratify players up until lvl 70 within range, melee, mage. Beyond that stats and luck decide who wins a battle. These new superweapons and armor nullify some of the luck and stats. A lvl 70 ranger in black dhide would stand virtually no chance against a lvl 90 ranger in silver dhide (or whatever that armor would be). Not only would the lvl 90 have the benefit of higher stats (and probably hitpoints), but added bonuses accrued to the lvl 90 armor. Currently a lvl 70 range would lose most of the time, but not all. Games cease being fun when the chance is completely removed and one can almost 100% of the time foretell outcomes. Whether these new higher level items would do that is hard to say, but it certainly is and should be a concern of Jagex's. I know Jagex is probably concerned about the vast amount of gp in the game, and the repairs on Barrow's armor and the great money vortex of construction were an attempt to siphon some of that from the game. Higher level armors or weapons, in the same vein as barrows, could be a further opportunity to remove gp from the game. If the cost was high enough it might mitigate some of the aforementioned problems.
  10. Interesting idea. I just tried this on Abyssal Demons. My results weren't stunning but were noticeable. I probably won't bring it with me to demons again, but lower level players (I'm 122) may find it worthwhile. I used to use excalibur for the free defense bonus (especially when monsters attacked with mage bloodvelds, infernal mages etc), but no longer do so. It's all a tradeoff between time and extra clicks. I'm sure each player will make the decision that best suits his/her needs, but it is always great to have as many weapons as possible in your arsenal.
  11. Clearly you had (at that moment) 85 or higher slayer or you couldn't have killed the abyssal demon. I suppose this proves just how random that drop is. I have killed over 12k abby demons on assignment (slayer lvl 94) and never received an abby demon head. Gratz on your luck, but your facts are wrong.
  12. An interesting theory, but almost certainly false. First, the time in coding would be a nightmare beyond belief. Second, why? Any theory should pass Occam's razor (the simplest solution is generally the correct one), and this one does not. It is far more complex than a random number generator, and why would Jagex want to predetermine drops? Lastly, your results are not surprising. To you they are, but in general they are not. Any infinitely long string (the drops from all players in Runescape approximates, but is not technically an infinite string) will contain all finite strings, and all infinite strings of less than or equal to it in cardinality. Or, in layperson terms, if a monkey types at a keyboard forever, we should not be surprised if s/he verbatim types the complete works of Shakespeare followed by the Bible - in all chronological versions - and lastly all of the Harry Potter books including the yet to be published 7th one. Not only should we not be surprised, but it is a mathematical inevitability. Your string is far shorter than the aforementioned ones, consequently should be far more common.
  13. I'm currently lvl 93 Slayer Abby Demons - though if whips go down in price much more..... Nechryaels - fast and lots of herb seeds and rune boots (going the way of whip) Gargoyles - Black Mystic Tops and granite mauls Dagganoths - herb seeds and speed Basilisks - rarely hit and tons of waters and nats
  14. Construction gets my vote. Yes, it is incredibly useful (gilded altar, tellies, ....), however, and, correct me if I'm wrong, it is the only skill that can't be done for free. Mage is possible by mining ess or pure ess, then rc the necessary runes. In fletching you can use your skills to acquire all the pieces. This is true for melee, range, prayer (graveyard of shadows is slow, but possible and pest control works for 6 of the skills). One might make a case for slayer. Not only does high level slayer require expensive armor and weapons (though the drops more than make up for them), but there is specialized gear (slayer boots, nose plug, bug lantern, etc). Still, these are quite cheap and can be used over and over with few exceptions. Construction is not the same. Even if you woodcut all your logs, the cost to make them into planks is exorbitant. Let's not even talk about the price for a piece of gold leaf (hammer and gold piece anyone?), block of marble, or magic orb (or whatever it is called). Getting construction is a horrific money dump only saved by the potential of using tears of guthix for it. Firemaking is boring, prayer can be tedious or expensive, herblore is time consuming, but construction is a black hole for bank accounts. Yes there are planks for free in the wilderness and at the barbarian outpost, but the time involved is so prohibitive that I find it difficult to even consider.
  15. If everyone can see the arrows, they belong to whomever gets them first. If Jagex had wanted it any other way, they would have programmed it as such. This smacks of the hubristic noob calls when a player uses prayer in the wilderness. It's how the game is programmed. As much as altruism is admirable, and occasionally present, it isn't a law. We all work within the confines of the rules or laws of the game/society, and any griping is just that. We all make our choices with full consent, and it behooves us to take responsibility for those choices - and not pass the buck to someone else. Let's be honest: theft is hacking, not picking up arrows visible to everyone.
  16. Rune Defender! It is essentially free vs 400-550k. It turns dds into an entirely different beast boosting its stab by at least 33% ( I have +82 stab with rune def, dark gloves, fury ammy), and is safe to take out into the wild. I always have 3 in my bank, so if I lose one in the wildy no real loss. I have high defense, so I always prefer faster slaying.
  17. I've tried them out and decided to stick with regular spells. I imagine each person, based on what they are training in tandem wit slayer, will have to decide exactly what optimizes their goals. I primarily train slayer, farming and herblore. Regular tellies are useful for farming, though you could go through the house loading times every time and use portals. What, for me, is more important are the secondary things I gather on the way to get new slayer assignments. For shilo, WF vials from Ardy and Shilo. On the way to the lost city I gather coal, mith and addy. Plus I found that the communication helped sometimes, but much of the time I needed an item (noseplug, facemask, rock hammer) or a change of gear (gargoyles to bloodvelds) to continue. So for me the new spells are great, and I'll use them on occasion (I think vengeance might be great on KQ), but I'll stick with the regular book. Slayer lvl 91, so I'm not a noob.
  18. No particular order 5 gold chompy hat 99 RC on F2p KQ Head 99 Slayer Completed all Champion Scrolls
  19. A question I have always had, which further complicates the issue, is: are the differences in levels linear, or geometric - like the experience difference in levels. To be more precise, is the difference in the attack rate between 99 and 98 attack the same as between 2 and 1 attack, or is the former greater, because it is on a geometric (or perhaps some other non-linear curve).
  20. Is the mask +15 to att and str against whatever slayer monster is assigned, or just these guys. If so I need it for abby demons.
  21. I average 4 lvl 3 clues a day from abbys nechs and gargoyles. So far the I have only gotten the usual runes, rune, and black dhide. I have gotten one god page (zammy 3) in the last 2 weeks. Perhaps I'm just on a bad streak, but you are certainly doing well.
  22. I have 93 defense, and wearing full black and other items often have +110 mage defense. Ancient mages hit me as if I were wearing an amulet of mage vulnerability and a ring of pk me please. I have 90 range, but I don't even bother pking anymore, as it often feels so unbalanced to me. Of course ancient mage is difficult to get, is expensive to use, and doesn't allow one to teleblock. Still, once a 94 attacks me I have no chance. So I don't bother. For me it has taken all the fun out of going into the wildy, so I don't. I'm sure other poeple have different experiences.
  23. Anyone know if the crossbow can use special bolts (opal, pearl, barbed)?
  24. A good questions has been raised: will there ever be demand for teletablets? If yes, I see a new market for autoers, even with the longer walk, and perhaps a smaller number of autoers than rune ess supported. Teletablets are useful for barrows, and kq where they provide a better 1 click telly (close to prayer for those with level 45 and above, and easily replaceable, unlike the long walk for an ectovial). They are useful for low level players as they provide Ardougne and Camelot teleports for those who lack the necessary magic level. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, they provide anyone with a means for bones to peaches. Bones to peaches is time to consuming to get - I hated every telkinetic theatre point. It also takes up 3 slots (teletablet 1) in a melee inventory. Even if a player has nats for high alching they rarely have demand for earths and waters. While it isn't a great spell for all monsters (abby demons, fire giants, blue dragons, etc), it is incredibly useful for many. I can now stay forever at infernal mages, turoths, kurasks, bloodvelds, dustdevils and so on. Ultimately players go with what is cheapest, gives the highest reward per time, and is the easiest. One bones to peaches teletablet might cost 2k once prices settle. If it creates 20 peaches that is the same as 8 sharks (saves money), and does not require running to the bank to get more sharks. This may be more time consuming during combat (eating more often, and having to pick up bones), but ultimately saves time because of less bank running for food. It's not a perfct spell, but I can see a substantial demand for it. Foretelling is a always a tricky, and usually inaccurate, pursuit. Time will tell.
