  1. That's debatable. If a mom just gave birth to a child and was so upset about how her life would be changed to commit suicide, she'd be hurting the baby. Not emotionally, but the baby wouldn't have as good a life. In other situations suicide hurts plenty of people emotionally though. I mean if I were to commit suicide I'd practically ruin the lives of my parents and my close friends and family would be completely devasted, so I think as irresponsible commiting suicide is to your own life, it messes with tons of other lives too. That's a decent point, and I retract that specific argument. Ultimately, however, I still believe that a person should have control over his own life at the very least - and that other friends and family and enemies should accept it as his decision, though they may be internally devastated by it. I think it's someone's right to commit suicide, as it is his right to live. Where do these rights come from? :P
  2. Not necessarily true - if the person deliberately did something unethical then an ethical action would not have been his target. I guess our views on subjectivism vs. objectivism would make us have to agree to disagree on this one. It wasn't what you said, it was how you said it. Oh I agree, I was explaining the origin of the word - which I believe, is from archery.
  3. Wherever you heard this is full of it.
  4. QFT :D A "sin" is defined as "missing the mark". It's an archery term. Therefore an "unethical" action would be missing the mark (the target being an ethical action), and thus, a sin. It's not like using the same word that a Christian does will associate you with the faith. Obviously God does NOT count as a false idol. Seeing as God is the one giving the command, anyone that believes in the command is going to believe in God, and anyone that doesn't believe in God isn't going to believe in the command, since God gave it. I can't honestly see where you were trying to go with this, the answer is so simple and obvious. Were you honestly looking for an answer? Or were just, as usual, trying to throw your atheistic views into a thread remotely tied-in with God in some way and backhandedly insult Christians?

    Yea. Wisest != smartest.
  6. I'm surprised Buddhism is that high, but no really other big surprises. He didn't say that, or imply that. Stop putting insults in his mouth and then trying to make him feel guilty for the insults you put in his mouth.
  7. That's not entirely true. The bible says that every sin cuts off your relationship with God and so all are equal in that respect. However, saying that cheating on a test is as bad as raping and killing someone just seems illogical. Besides, God classifies sins. see proverbs. He talks about the 6 top worse and 7 bad but not quite as bad. If you want, I can look up the exact verse. Or when Christ talked about one man having "the greater sin". Anyways, I would agree with Bubsa, but I believe (from a Christian perspective) that pride is the root of all sin. As a Christian, any sin would be rooted in pride since I am acting in a way that I think I know better than God. So pride aside, I'd have to say adultery. I hear about alot of stuff in the world, alot of murders, robberies, etc. But nothing pisses me off more than hearing about an unfaithful wife/husband. I don't know why, that's just the way it is for me.

    My favourite has to be "The Jimmy". This guy named Jimmy always talks in 3rd person, Kramer is mistaken to be mentally challenged, and Jerry's dentist does some dirty things :P

  19. I hear dolphins do as well. Just because your body and mind tell you its okay, doesn't mean it is okay. Alot of 3-year old's minds and bodies tell them it's okay to eat dog crap out of a garbage pail, but it's not exactly the best thing for them to be doing. Or murder's think it's okay to be killing people. Not okay. True but what he's saying is that if you both (you and your spouse) have kept abstinent until your time of marriage, you can have unprotected sex every day for 25 years and you're not going to get HIV - unless it came genetically. Nobody was talking about the Bible, or God's will, or "other stuff like that". You brought that up purely for the sake of telling us that Christianity is garbage, and you know it. Nobody was shouting Bible passages or "God's will" at each other - stop making us out to be intolerant when you're the only one showing any intolerance on this thread.
