I was thinking of him as well. In school I used to bring up a knee and rest my chin on it, while the other foot was staying on the floor. It's much more comfortable and natural for me than to sit correctly.

Your religion has no sense of morals, and it doesn't fulfil any purpose like giving hope or meaning. The difference is very clear if you're a little more pragmatic. Religion can gather people for charity, and it enforces a positive ethic. Religion is less of a fairy tale and more of a parable, and it doesn't matter if there's a huge book compiling the teachings or not. It seems that both you and most fundamentalists fail to see that.

Now, on a more serious note, I'd say this would be something you'd want to ask to a close friend of yours, not to a bunch of strangers. I doubt a fellow forumer could say something beyond "be more open minded to the opinions of others", and "you try too hard to be funny" to someone else.

It's not as simple as you may think. Greenland's ice is sitting over landmass, and the same goes for the Antarctic and all glaciers in the world. If they melt, the sea levels will rise. You also have to remember thermal expansion as well: if water gets warmer, it expands, rising the sea levels. [Link] Living in a tropical country, I get to experience the effects of hurricanes and El Niño/La Niña effects, so yes, climate change do concerns me. Maybe it won't bring people to anarchy, but it's dangerous enough already.

It might be true that volunteer work (or charity or simply helping out someone) might make you feel satisfied in the long run, but it's only selfish if that's the main reason behind your acts. I doubt all people think "I'm going to donate my work so I can feel better with myself". That'd be the spirit behind acts of selflessness. "X needs my help, so I'll help him". For some people, feeling fuzzy can be but a positive side-effect, and not the ulterior goal of their good deeds.

Your point is nicely put warrior, I understand what you are trying to say. However, the posts we're talking about were clearly over the line; we aren't babysitting beliefs, we are attacking harsh trolling. Why would you want to participate in a debate where the arguments are "lol god doesn't exist" and "anyone that believes in god is _____"? Anyway, let's try and get the thread back on track. I personally am an agnostic atheist. It seems to me that religion can't be more than a human invention that has always tried to "fill the gaps" -natural happenings like thunder in the ancient times, and the creation of the universe in modern times. The creation of religion is quite easily explained as a sociological event, as means of keeping social order, of giving people hope in the form of an afterlife, and of establishing a tight set of morals and ethics. To me, religion is society's answer to specific social circumstances. That would mean I simply don't follow any religion, so I could also be a Pantheist or a Deist, but I simply can't force myself into believing through blind faith if there are no proofs. I simply am too much of a logical thinker, so you could say God made me an atheist. Still, I wouldn't want religion to disappear, because it still has a function. Religion brings people together as communities, and it brings them together to work for charity. It's needed because some people might not follow the same morals without the expectation of eternal rewards/damnation. It's needed because it can bring hope to the desperate. Fundamentalism and is the only aspect of religion I can't stand, but I can't take those exceptions as the rule.
