Australia is dying ~ -NO JOKE- ~
I'll put it this way... given current reaction times of the current government... most major cities will be consumed by desert before evacuation is an option ;) Haha, comforting to know, thanks rick. :P

Have humans exceeded..
Nothing wierd about that... Just because we're h0mo sapiens dosen't mean we're a special case from the rest of the animal populations (in a broader sense of the ecology of animals with respect to population limiting factors).

Australia is dying ~ -NO JOKE- ~
That's a bit over the top. Evacuation of 11 million people would be a catastrophe in itself. To put it bluntly, from my perspective on the issue at the current time, total and utter bull. I just hope I'm not wrong be it now or in the future.

What are you listening to right now!?
Swamp Song - Tool.

Defence mechanisms - A brief insight - Where do you fall?
Repression from the people around me and displacement into writing music. Works for me. :D

Yes, something does. If disease dosen't, lack of food, predation or competition will. There are always population limits for a given environment. Basic ecology, methinks.

Yes. Our dams here in SE Queensland are below 20% total capacity. Worst of any major city in the country, I'm pretty sure. This blows. Rain Goddamit!!!! -.-

Your Fav Band growing up...

Thrice
Hahah. Progressive (the genre) isn't defined by a band's "progress". If that was so, almost all metal, rock, punk (etc.) bands would fall under that genre. Sorry, but I just can't comprehend how someone would think that. Thrice are not it. Echoes of my thoughts exactly. Progress is made in a song, not in a band.

Age Discrimination
The good thing about being more mature (I'm 18, trying not to compare myself to you so please don't take this the wrong way) is we know that the people who flame us purely for being older are full of crap. Just ignore them is my advice. Let them think it actually matters in the big scheme of things.

Age Discrimination
I'm with this bloke. Explain why, darkforaster. And what you replied to Reb will annoy him, I'm sure, but it also annoys me. He didn't say that people aren't equal - only that sometimes thier opinions aren't. Opinions can be wrong, right or varying degrees in between and thus can be unequal. If you're instinct is to jump to a conclusion that opinion = a person, then you'd be sorely mistaken. Opinions change; they aren't who we are. Human rights tell us we are all of equal value and should be treated equally. Facts and people's ability to get them wrong tell us that opinions on a topic can be unequal. *Sighs* neither of us are getting anywhere. meh this will be my last post in a while. So don't bother replying. what i meant by age doesn't determine maturity is the fact that adults, like children can be immature. therefore. Just because someone is older. does not mean that they are more mature. in Fact. At my school. The year 9's are the least mature, while the year 7's are the most mature. more proof that age is not a factor. (there are about 200 pupils in each year.) Would it have helped you if I used the word generally? Age generally has relevance to maturity. And don't throw examples around as if they prove that "age is irrelevant to maturity" (quite a definate statement, don't you think?), which is total crap to be honest. Problem solvered. Now we got somewhere.

Have humans exceeded..
It's important to distinguish that mutations are the random accident and natural selection is very much guided by which genes suit which niche. Anyway back on the exceeding expectations thing I saw a very interesting program last night on aging. In terms of how long we can live these days, yes, we have exceeded expectations as biology generally dosen't care about us if we are past breeding age. Harsh but true. It talked about new diseases emerging purely because of the ages people live to these days, and example being Alzhiemers. Just out of interest it compared the two theories of why we age, the first being the common oxidation one where free radicals attack just about any molecule in our body until we can no longer function properly and die. The second is copying malfunctions, which seems to also make sense. It involves the supported idea that after a multitude of mitotic divisions (normal cell growth for the purposes of growth and or repair) DNA replication errors will accumulate to a point where the cells being produced will no longer be able to function and die as a consequence. It seems to fit in well with breeding ages for humans; pretty much no stuff ups at an age of around 2, very minimal stuff ups at around 20, double that at 40, double that at 60 and so on.

Have humans exceeded..
Wow, that's a tad negative. No? First of all, everyone has heard the "We're killing the planet" speech. No-one need hear it again. Secondly, if humans destroyed themselves, I find it somehow unlikely that new humans would fulfill their void. That defies religion and science. Thirdly, how can you consider creating new life pointless? My short existence of fourteen years has been an incredible experience, and if someone were to consider that pointless because of our "impending doom", I would be inclined to kick them in the face. Fourthly, wear a full face helmet from now on. Wow, that's a tad negative. No? First of all, everyone has heard the "We're killing the planet" speech. No-one need hear it again. Fourthly, wear a full face helmet from now on. Yeah, I happen to be in a very cynical mood tonight. 1. I'm not trying to be all 'Save the planet!' In fact, I'm probably one of the last people that would ever tell another person to be more environmentally friendly. But I do believe we are using Earth's resources faster than they can be replaced and that we will probably never be able to undo the damage done in the years before environmental awareness. 2. You're right, I should have been clearer. My theory is that the evolutionary cycle - Ice Age, dinosaurs, gorillas dropping out of trees and becoming [bleep] sapians etc etc has happened before and will happen again. 3. That was tongue in cheek and I should have made that clearer too. Having my son is easily the most amazing thing that has ever happened to me. I'd go on, but then I'd turn into one of those boring mothers that can only rave about their kid. 4. Fair call. Number 2 is interesting. Are you saying that there is a cycle that creates or has created intelligence akin to us? If so would you expect to find tools and/or buildings, locomotives or other signs of highly evolved life? Sorry if I've got that wrong. I suppose your idea is partly true due to periods of mass extinction and then large scale evolution following them.

I'd argue yes from whatever world view you look at it from. We have the potential to wipe ourselves from existance like wiping a window stain with a rag. To a god or evolution, both would be counter intuitive.

I've got a new name for him - The omnipresent. He's bloody everywhere whenever we score points! For what he's lost in zest over the years, he's gained in knowlege of where the play is going and where the ball will be. When Jarred Hayne of NSW fumbled near thier line and we took advantage, who else was it going to be but Lockyer who scored the try? Thurston had a much more involved game then Lockyer. By the way how good was Steven Price. I'm glad he had a big game anyway, let him be tired for Monday's game against parra. True on all accounts. Thurston did have a better game but Lockyer, these days, seems to have a hand in just about every play for whatever team he represents, be it the Broncos, QLD or Australia. Steve Price did have a blinder in my opinion. Stood up for us QLD'rs. :D

Global Warming. Whats your opinion?
Pretty much the point I was going to raise with you. In modern man's short time in existance relative to the billions of years the earth has been here, things are dire for us. That's all that matters - us. The past dosen't matter in fixing the problems we have now. Sure, I'd love to know weather data over the past few billions of years but I'm thinking it's a tad more difficult than looking back in time through the phylogeny of orgaisms or through radioactive decay of some elements in rocks. With the data we have at the moment, it's predicted that things will get dire for us and the weather could threaten our existance. I, for one, would like to cast aside debate as to what causes global warming or if it is natural and at least try. If we don't cover all bases, we've already lost. We're already potentially dead. Well, that's in the broader sense of the debate over the entire world. In this forum scenario, we're not the problem fixers (but you can be! revolt! start a revolution today! ) so there's nothing wrong with the aformentioned debate.

The Other Mexico - Lynchmada. Sick breakdown ftw.

Not everyone's gonna like the music you do. But hey, I'm giving it a listen right now... seems like nothing special so far and honestly not quite my taste. In image of the invisible, when he starts repeating it and all the music cuts out, that kind of annoys me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzQ2hNBy1qQ Whatever that little bit at the beginning was had more promise than the song in my opinion. You shouldn't take any of this to heart by the way; if someone dosen't like your music taste you shouldn't take it personally.

Age Discrimination
Stop right there. That is a complete non sequiter dude. Unless you can explain to me how you jumped to that conclusion, don't use that statement as a base of your opinions in this debate. - People are all equal, but their opinions can have more bearing than other's on both specific and general matters. The surgeon is not "superior" to the hobo. The surgeon's medical opinions, on the other hand, are in fact superior to the hobo's medical opinions. I'd put $50 on that in 98+% of cases, the surgeon's opinion would be of more value than the hobo's. One: How can someone be told not to participate because they're "too young"? Two: In that case, if the child really does know more about the sun than the adult (a rare case when you get into actual particulars about the sun, e.g. it's compostion), than in that specific scenario the child's opinion is superior. Honestly, how many children do you know that have more experience than adults? Now, what about vice-versa? Generally speaking (but not always, I can't speak in absolutes of course) adults are more experienced in life, and thus have superior opinions about life. Generally speaking, the odds of me being correct about a matter are higher than a child's. Nonethless, nowhere did I say that people are not equal. Their opinions may not be equal, but they as human beings are and will always be of equal value. So stop throwing words in my mouth. Oh, and quick poll: Who here agrees with him that "age is irrelevant to maturity"? I'd tend to agree with you in this debate, reb. And age is... of course relevant to maturity. That's a wierd thing to say.

Awesome dude! Should be a real tough game for us QLD'rs. Anyway I wouldn't be to quick to praise Jarred Hayne; sure, he did get a great try (grrr :x ) but he also gave one as a gift to Lockyer.

In Your Whole Life, Who Have You Hated/Hate Most
If only everyone was like you. :D :P ...We'd all be boring :P It's true though, if we all loved with no confrontation etc. how mundane would things get? I suppose, I kind of had my head in the clouds while listening to the song 'Imagine'. How sad, we need to hate each other to spice things up so we don't all turn into mediocre drones. :wall: If that's what the song makes you feel, then you're clearly missing the entire significance of it. And why is it sad? It can be exciting, funny, enthralling and improving of a person, as long as possibly being annoying and deterring. The bold isn't what the song made me feel; it's what your comment preveous to that one did. I personally think Imagine is a pretty uplifting song. I was talking about you interpreting it as an uplifting, happy song. Oh, how wrong you are. Do you think John Lennon, one of the greatest activists of his time, would want us to just sit down and dream how 'nice' it would be if it were this way? Not a chance. When he says 'Imagine all....' he is emphasising the fact how the world is clearly not in this way, but in dissarray. He says 'You may say I'm a dreamer', but then concludes "The world will live as one' - not dream. The song highlights the failing of the attitudes shared in the world and implores us to make the dream become a reality, to escape the quite dire one that currently exists. You're right. I have to make clear that I didn't intend to say it was a happy song. All that you've said makes perfect sense as it did before you said it yet I understand why you did as 'uplifting' wasn't exactly the best choice of word. Inspirational, perhaps; demanding us to stop and think about the problems we have and how much better things could be (which is where the inspiration or 'uplift' comes into it) if we all put our efforts together as a species. Again, my words were craptacular, you were right in the correction.
