Wouldn't a cop living by this philosophy be putting the people he's supposed to protect and the laws he's supposed to uphold in jeopardy? From what I understand he'll do whatever benefits him the most, not the community or the law. I know it's extreme to assume that but you can't help but wonder when someone takes selfishness as far as "satanists" seem to. Point is you'd figure a satanist would choose a career that doesn't involve sacrificing them self for a greater good, like law or country. Why? That greater good effects everyone. I'm sure just because they are labled as santanist they understand the need for protection of others so they themselves can be protected. It's not like they are void of all human emotion or logic with one devout belief to always do what directly affects their selfishness. Satenza summed it up pretty well. They aren't all bigoted mindless remnants of people who follow a doctrine and a doctrine only. As the bold in your comment states, rocketman, those would likely be extreme cases. Methinks places like the police acadamy or defence force can spot nutters from a mile away anyway.
  2. What do you mean 'they can suck it up'? WTF is the meaning attatched to that statement?

You do have a point somewhat. Indulgence all the time and selfishness all the time dosen't really go all that far to solving all of the worlds ills hence why not everyone will take it literally. They're pretty laissez faire from what I can tell. The second part of your post may be true of a minority within the 'cult' (it's not a cult nor a religion really; it's a philosophy) but certainly not for all of them. They aren't all social recluses who can't make friends outside thier own world. The guy in the video ('high priest' Peter Gilmore) explains that some are police officers, in the armed forces or have other normal jobs. Some just don't want to admit it for fear of being judged by others.
  4. What about people who can't move.
  5. Disposition - Tool. So relaxing...
  6. If only there were more people like you.

Oh, to be lame. I was right :P While I'm sure you're joking it does have a meaning. If people don't want the watch the vid I'll tell them - 'Satan' means adversary or accuser in Hebrew. Satanists see theselves as the adversary of all organised religions.
  8. They do have a choice, my entire post was about the choice of hospice care, which I'm sure most people would prefer to just taking a pill and snuffing it, their last memories being ones of pain and suffering. I sure would want to at least give hospice a try, it's very effective. If they find that it doesn't work for them for whatever reason then that's a different story, but we sure as hell don't need people like Kevorkian out there telling people that his way is the best and only way. It's good to see you advocate choice and not a 'my way or the highway' moral code. I agree we should give them the choice of your idea but I feel one can only judge how effective it is if you go through it yourself.

It's explained pretty clearly in the video. Lame to some, perhaps. It's just to evoke a response from conservatives whose apparant purpose in life is to at all costs avoid stepping on god's toes. People really shouldn't let the title fool them but they do, which is sort of what they want. :P Edit: @ Nadril, yeah, I agree in the sense that I didn't need a church to tell me these things but the first time I heard of it and looked into it, it kind of surprised me how akin to western society it is.

You're really getting it all wrong apart from the lust part. Watch the vid I showed. LaVeyan satansist aren't hate filled emos who wordhip anything. Seriously, take the emotion out of it and just read about it. Don't eat what the media feeds you.
  11. Well An0r, you'll see how you like it if you have a deadly disease that causes you to be in pain all the time, to never be able to get up of your hospital bed, to feel you are a nuisance because you drain all the free time of your family that goes to see you, to have to pee through a tube and have nurses strip you in order to change clothes, to lose all dignity, and to have nothing but a slow death in front of you. You'll see how much you want to live. People live in those conditions because they have doctors like Matthew Fox's character on Lost, who are desperately trying to keep you alive a little longer to live in those misreable conditions. No one wants that, you are correct, but it's people like Kevorkian that convince them that suicide is the only way out. It's not, there is this wonderful practice called hospice care that caters to spiritual and emotional needs while people are in those positions, instead of futilely trying to keep them alive. They don't die alone in intensive care with doctors bending over them, they can be at home surrounded by family and die a natural death. hospice simply makes the last legs of their life as easy and comfortable as possible, by relieving physical pain and giving them emotional support. Depression is an enormous influence on people's decisions, If they were under hospice care that was making their life as good as it could possibly be then they would not be depressed, therefore would not likely consider assisted suicide. Depression is, I think, the number one reason for suicides? Assisted suicide is no different; the only difference is that you have a physician handing you the pill with a big smile on his face. That's all well and good for us healthy folk but given the horrendous nature of some diseases don't you think we should at least give them the choice? Who are we to put a label on people to say they must stay alive because be don't agree with letting them die?

I don't understand... It promotes selfishness and indulgence. We love being selfish, and we love indulging, we just hate it when other people are the same way. The very selfishness we act out in our everyday lives we loathe in other people. Well, that's where I'd personally draw the line. Everyone is selfish to some extent; It's human nature. But like anything, I'd say there can be too much. Hypocritical? If I actually called myself a full blown satanist and nothing else, perhaps. I'm a cherry picker more than anything else. I can see some pretty accurate depictions of society coming out of the satanic philosophy as well as some which might be considered a little left field. Perhaps those which do consider themselves full blown LaVeyan satanists dont mind about people being selfish at all. Where do you get the idea that they sacrafice sheep? I'm talking about LaVeyan satanism. Most of them aren't bloodthirsty wicked freaks.
  13. Of course, the media whor*s of this world will always put thier sway on things. You raise a good point on the funding of such research projects. Perhaps an oil company that's worried about dwindling profits in the future would make an executive risk to give the alternative theories a funding injection. Good point, though in theory the doors aren't exactly locked closed. i didn't think about the oil companies though, good point too. But I doubt they will be doing anything soon, as long as people still heavily rely on oil, and aren't going to stop using it. True. They realise all to well they have society by the balls, to put it bluntly. :XD:
  14. That wasn't because of sleep deprivation, that's because everything he was doing was unhealthy. Playing a game 3 days straight... WTF is wrong with his parents... If I were that kid's dad I'd give him a firm one up the side of the head and yell at him to go outside. Sorry, I just find that totally disgusting.
  15. Okay, I'll take the earth and you can spend the rest of your life on the moon. It's just annoying hearing that we must save the planet, when the only reason for our concern is that we rather recentely discovered that our pollution might be a problem for us in the future. Call it "The attempt to save our own skin" and I might be willing to participate. I'd agree, the earth is beautiful - it deserves better care. It's just that it's the cold hard truth that the attempt to save the planet is indeed an attempt to save our own skin.
  16. Assisted suicide... Let people do it if they want. As long as you can tell that they are in the right frame of mind to make such a descision. From what little I know, though, this guy is a bit of an a-hole.
  17. It's not pointless if the goal is to save the planet. But that's obviously not the goal, we're just trying to save our own skin. Bingo. We don't give a toss about planet earth, only the environment and hence wellbeing of people. To put it a different way if there were another planet going through potentially human harming climate change and humans weren't on it, it's be left alone.
  18. So we're important because we can say that we are important? And therefore our eradication is not a good thing? I'm talking about saving the earth. The earth doesn't need humans and it would probably be in better shape without humans. I know those things. I was saying it's pointless to destroy the human race to save the planet. What's the point on saving the planet if we're not there to see it? It's just nonsense to me to ever seriously consider destroying the human race for something else.

Because the best the reason to join a religion is to piss people off. Name any religons people join just to piss people off. Anyway, seems very... extreme. Not really something I want to get into. You really think so? As I said, take away the emotion then look at it. I don't care if you're not into it but just don't let emotion sway you on things.
  20. Eh? We are the most important species on this planet if for no other reason than we are the only ones who can say that. Of course, kill all humans and the problem ends but a part of that is because no one would be around to see whether there's a problem or not. I'm thinking the absence of human beings or eradicating the race to solve all of life's problems, although I'm sure you're not serious, has to be the most futile position ever. Anyway on people actually going along with the fear associated with the bandwagon I'd go so far as to say that's weak. Don't let anyone upset you living a rich and fulfilled life with fear, no matter how dire thier claims. I take inspiration from REM - "It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine." It's not to say I don't think there's a problem or we shouldn't act to resolve it, but to me it's saying I'm not going to be brainfarmed into feeling nothing but fear.

Perhaps you've heard of it or perhaps not and you think it's some occult sheep sacraficing cult or something like that. Satanism in the organised sense was founded by Anton LaVey in 1966 and the satanic bible written in 1969. They stand for an atheistic wordlview which seeks to enhance our lives through indulgence in worldly pleasures. A vid: I'd argue that everyone on a basic level through our biology is somewhat adhered to the satanist phiosophy - lust, greed, indulgence in any worldly pleasure without doing harm to others, revenge, etc. It all sounds a bit extreme at times but I'd class myself atleast partly adhered to this phiosophy. What about you? Take the emotion out of it and think before running away because of the name. Also if you don't like the biblical satan, this philosophy actually has nothing to do with him. So don't start getting freaked out. I just thought that this would be somethig a little different or left field to talk about.
  23. I don't know whether it means they have any kind of similarity in taste but they do both have carotenoids, as do quite a few fruits and veg. Anyway read about carotenoids. NOW! http://www.all-foods-natural.com/articles/greatness-of-carrot.html

  25. You see this is a very very very very simple dynamic to understand. We dig it up faster then it can form. Much faster. It will run out (hence why they are called non-renewables), so lets leave your idea behind and come back into some sort of reality, please.
