  1. Wow, that's great! I'll have to check out that album now. I've been meaning to get into more Chasm stuff anyway. Just finished listening to Planisphaerium by Wormed (album). Truly insane brutal deathgrind. Love those drums.
  2. Obzen by Meshuggah (album). Haven't listened to them in a while so I thought I'd give Obzen a spin.
  3. Anata. Swedish tech-death at its finest. Start with The Conductor's Departure (2006).
  4. Onset of Putrefecation by Necrophagist (album).
  5. I'm not sure how much it will spread because there's not much good information in that article. At least it seems that conventional antivirals might have some use here. Flu outbreaks like this do sound a bit worrying, especially since there seems to be a bigger and badder strain every season.
  6. I think you're right. There is no purpose to life but we can still make something of it while it lasts.
  7. Unquestionable Presence by Atheist (album).
  8. Death, Cynic, Danzig, Pantera, Porcupine Tree... definitely to my tastes. I'll have to check out some of the others I'm not too familiar with.
  9. However [developmentally delayed]ed a child may be, they can still get something out of life. It might not be the ideal life, but they can get something out of it nevertheless. Anencephaly doesn't give the sufferer a life at all. There's the difference. Ultimately the choice should be down to the parents but I can't think of any reason to keep it alive at all. It may seem cold, and please don't get the impression that I'm coming at this lightly, but that's how I feel about it.
  10. Branch out a little. Try Death.
  11. If she doesn't express hateful or bigoted attitudes towards homosexuals and is accepting of them as people then there should be no problem. Little girls aren't going to start hating homosexuals because she believes marriage is only for one man and one woman. As for PH's point, I don't see anything inspirational in giving the same old politically correct answers to questions like this. I don't see anything inspiring in a drone who can't think for themselves (which, by the way, cuts both against PH's point and Miss California's response). I'd find it inspiring if she just spoke her mind and explained how she feels in a rational and respectful way, preferably with a reason besides "that's what my parents taught me".
  12. Perez Hilton was immature about the whole thing. His excuse is that she should have given a "politically correct" answer, which just makes me think lower of him and the whole judging panel, if that's the kind of brainless drivel they want to hear from their contestants. They should speak their minds, not be forced into giving a predictiable PC answer.
  13. Proof that the Bush administration actually had it's good sides. Their ban on embryonic stem cell researched forced scientists to do studies like those mentioned in warrior's post. Embryonic stem cells aren't very common, so adult cell conversion back to stem cells solves this limitation. I'm all for embryonic stem cell research as well though. I don't understand why people have the idea that scientists are evil people who rob newborns and turn them into stem cell smoothies with their blender in the lab. Their source of stem cells come from either aborted fetuses or from the embryos not chosen after an IVF & genome test. I wouldn't go so far as to praise Bush for the way research has turned out. He obviously did it for ethical reasons, not because he thought adult stem cells were a more promising research prospect. Having said that, in a roundabout kind of way there have been some positive outcomes for everyone.
  14. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Induced_pl ... _stem_cell http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v4 ... 1858a.html This is the real exciting stuff as far as adult stem cells are concerned - reverting them to an embryonic like state. It's relatively recent research, too. Hopefully we can find a way around the problems associated with using viruses as a delivery system. It seems they're a problem for a viable form of gene therapy as well.
  15. I think it's great and I support all forms of stem cell research. It seems that adult stem cell therapies have come a long way while there have been bans on embryonic stem cell research, so at least there's some progress being made. The ultimate dream as far as stem cell therapies goes is the development of stem cell banks. They would be kind of like blood banks, except everyone has their own personal adult stem cell line that has been reverted to be pluripotent or even totipotent (i.e. can develop into any cell type). This would avoid the problems with rejection that would otherwise occur with using foreign cells and would give everyone a fallback position if they ever developed a disease that could be cured by stem cell therapy.
  16. #-o Heart and brain function are regulated by the brainstem. Anencephaly and other developmental defects like this are really horriffic, and I don't wish them upon anyone. Given that there is no real life to speak of in sufferers of the disease, I think termination is the best way to go. Most babies born with it will die soon after birth anyway. If anyone has a friend or family member going through pregnancy, tell them to get plenty of folate to prevent diseases like this.
  17. Why are people taking this seriously? Can we justify it with something more than unsourced rumours? Can we find some new sources where the band retract previous statements where they said they weren't going to record any new material?
  18. So where are these rumours coming from, then? The article you posted claimed there were rumours and then went on to do everything it could to dispel that. Awfully weird way to write an article.
  19. I've always liked the Eagles. There's nothing wrong with them if you're into that style of music. I've only got one of their greatest hits CDs though (not the best-selling one), so I can't exactly comment about all of their songs. Do you at least like the song Hotel California? Everyone seems to like that song. It's probably because it's one of their most popular, though.
  20. It certainly sounds like a fascinating machine. You should probably cite wiki to let people know where that info came from, though. Not because I think it's inaccurate but because it's misleading. Incredible picture, too.
  21. [yt]92D15qtI_Gk[/yt] Good Will Hunting, when Sean finally gets Will to open up. Pretty much the whole movie leads up to this point, and it's one of the most moving pieces of film I've seen to this day.
  22. Great video venomai. As for the story, I wouldn't conclude anything based on it because there so much I don't know about the writer, the experience itself and how skillful the reader was.
  23. Molesting The Decapitated by Devourment (album).
  24. So for some reason you think different meanings for the same word have to be mushed together to form the true meaning? Zierro, you really have no idea what you're talking about. I can't believe you're this damn stubborn. Actually, after our little debate about the whole 50/50 thing I can well understand your reluctance to pay attention to anything I'm saying at all. You even quoted something which said "A weak atheist is someone who lacks theism and who does not happen to believe in the existence of any gods no more, no less." So you don't think this is what a weak atheist is any more? Have you even paid attention to this whole weak/strong atheist thing at all? What about all the definitions I went to the trouble (stupidly) to copy out in one of my posts? Can't you see the different definitions for atheism?
