  1. Latest number I saw was 84 dead. Now officially worse than Ash Wednesday.
  2. Thats a bit lenient. 65 deaths? Lenient? No, I think it's about right. Some might say it's too harsh, but it's a serious crime and any arsonists who contributed to these fires should be locked up for a long time. I just saw the report on the news, and the pictures are nothing short of astonishing. Entire towns were burnt down - homes, schools, the local pub and police station - everything. It's like a war zone. I don't quite think you understand. I was saying locking them up would been going easy on them. I was implying a death sentence would be better. I understood what you said, I just disagree with you. Incarceration for a lifetime is a massive punishment while death to me would be like freedom. If you want to find the death penalty thread that was floating around a little while back, then by all means take the argument there. In New Zealand? What do you mean by that?

  4. It sounds pretty horrible. I don't know anyone impacted by the fires because I live in Queensland, but I still feel for the people who lost their lives. Any arsonists responsible should be locked up for life, no exceptions.
  5. Far Away From The Sun by Sacramentum (album). Excellent.
  6. Reminds me... I forgot to put Gorod in my list. Definitely one of my top 10 bands at the moment.

Just jump. You're only going to get smashed in the Ashes mate. On another note, thank Christ the selectors dropped Warner. He was playing like crap. Slow start for our boys today, though...
  8. :twss: Invaders - Iron Maiden I think I've misjudged the genre to be honest. This album is quite awesome (so far).
  9. Demons & Wizards, self-titled album.
  10. From what power metal I have heard the vocals are clean, so I can hear them. Having said that, I can't really argue that the lyrics are cheesy considering I like a fair bit of death metal.
  11. Try out Blind Guardian, their old stuff is kind of cheesy (but still great). Try out their new album A Twist in the Myth though. For their old stuff, The Forgotten Tales. Demons & Wizards as well, which is a group with Blind Guardian's singer and Iced Earth's guitar player. Their self-titled album ranks among the best power metal albums ever (imo) You've pretty much hit on why I don't like much power metal. The cheesy nature of the lyrics, vocals and music just puts me off. I'll give those a try, though.
  12. A fair bit of modern pop music and modern hip-hop. Overtly whiny pop-punk/emo. Brutal death metal that's just a clone of Suffocation and/or Devourment. Power metal. Open to suggestions for good bands, though. Unoriginal metalcore with generic breakdowns.

Congrats, you're a sexist. I could take offense to that statement much like feminists take offense to anything that involves men, but I can refrain. I don't try to change the world and people around me just to suit me better. Pointing out differences in the sexes is hardly sexist. Maybe I'd agree with you if she said men are inferior as a sex because of that, but until then I think you're jumping to conclusions. Other than that, I agree with goddess. If you want to make a strong argument, back it up with some real sources with real data.
  14. Gorguts? Obscura by Gorguts (album).
  15. Hell Yeah. Now listening to Check Your Head by the Beastie Boys (album). Although I've never really been into hip-hop in a major way, I've always liked the Beastie Boys.
  16. Illmatic by Nas (album). Absolutely everything about this album is solid. I can definitely hear why people consider it one of the best hip-hop albums ever.
  17. I think on some level that is true. Out of all styles of music, metal is probably the most derided by the general public (well, along with rap music), so people who listen to metal will find comfort being with their own kind and forming a community of sorts. On that basis you could probably call metal music a counter-culture. I think for the most part this is a great thing, though taken to the extreme it can produce metal elitism. If the psychological attachment becomes so much that you can't see that other forms of music can be good, it's gone too far. I think the excessive genre definitions are partly from how passionate metalheads can be, but also because metal is actually very diverse.
  18. What's wrong with a bit of the corpse Nadril? :P I like some of their stuff. On another matter, I don't really consider myself a metalhead either. The only form of metal I have a significant taste for is death metal, and even some of that I find pretty crappy and derivative. There's plenty of good music out there beside just metal. Being a metalhead to me seems to be more about the stereotype of having long hair, going to gigs every week and wearing band tees everywhere. I don't fit into any of those categories.
  19. How The Gods Kill by Danzig (album).
  20. I recommend Portal. They're kind of prog-rock, but they're quite ethereal and mellow. They have a really nice sounding female vocalist, too. They were the project that a Paul and Sean started after breaking up Cynic in the 90's. They only released one 45 minute demo before breaking up, though.
  21. I don't notice much of the people despise rap. That is more something of a couple of years ago. When there's a thread about rap music there's maybe one or two guys saying "rap sucks" or "I hate ©rap!)", and then he gets attacked by the majority of the board (that includes people who also listen to metal). I agree, a lot of the mindless rap-bashing seems to have died off recently. I haven't really seen much bashing at all in the rap thread open at the moment. All I have seen is some metalheads who probably know/like one or two artists but haven't really looked into it that much.
  22. Fecal matter is literally choc full of bacteria, some of them potentially dangerous if they get into the bloodstream. I'd definitely use a disinfectant if you think there's a chance of contamination. One of the basic rules of disease etiology in microbiology is just because a bunch of bacteria are harmless or even beneficial in one place (the gastrointestinal tract), that doesn't mean they'll be harmless elsewhere. For example, harmless E.coli in the gastrointestinal tract can cause a urinary tract infection while Staphylococci on your skin can cause food poisoning if ingested after handling food, etc. As for tetanus, it's cause by the bacterium Clostridium tetani, which is found primarily in soil. Your biggest chance of getting tetanus is if this rusted pen knife was on the ground and if you're not covered by vaccination. I'm not so sure about contact lenses, though.
  23. Around The Fur by Deftones (album).
  24. http://www.cbn.com/CBNnews/534646.aspx I think this is a fantastic idea. The far left is going to be pissed off at this, but I think it's a great way to open up dialogue towards the RR and get them to get away from issues like banning homosexuality, and focus more on poverty and disease. It could also result in interfaith chatter, so maybe they understand each other more. I don't suppose the irreligious will be included, will they? I'd support it if it got the point of view of the non believers, too. Ultimately though, policy should be down to pragmatism and common ideals rather than any one religious stance.
  25. The few CDs I've ordered over the internet have been in perfect condition and packaging. The only downside I found with ordering over the net was shipping costs and exchange rates, but those things are to be expected.
