I'm a bit on the fence with capital punishment. In principle I'm not opposed to killing a serial offender to prevent them from committing another crime. Having said that, I think life in prison is a far worse punishment than death. In this sense, the death penalty seems like a cop out - these people aren't forced to sit in a cell and face the fact that they've done something wrong. Theyre effectively given a get out of jail free card. Im also a bit uneasy about the possibility (however rare it may be) of wrongful convictions.

I think of orientation the same way as I think of taste. You can't force yourself to enjoy a food that repulses your tongue. If you did, that would just make you delusional. You do raise a good point though. I also dislike when people try to blame someone's actions solely on their genetics. But I just don't see how you can control what "turns you on". Without trying to be too graphic, it is an involuntary bodily function we're talking about here. Murdering someone is a voluntary action. And I suppose acting on your homosexuality is voluntary too, but being gay is a different story. Pretty much hits the nail on the head. The absurd proposition of the choice argument is that it would suggest I can just click my fingers and be attracted to men. Any heterosexual guy will know thats not true.

It doesn't concern me. It's not necessarily a proxy for maturity, nor is a low post count indicative of immaturity.

Are you underage? If so, then you only have yourself to blame and the only way you can get out of it is to lobby to change the law (good luck with that).

And again, I cite Robert Downey Jr. in Tropic Thunder. The only reason there is outrage and media attention now is because Harry made a fuss about it. You know what people are like - most of them are sheep and need a leader to stand up and say something before they jump on the bandwagon.

Neither are racist, and I'm not so sure Harry was even impersonating a black person there... The thing that bothers me about people saying the Jackson Jive skit is racist is that they have no idea what the members of the skit think about black people or if they were doing the skit to denegrate them. That's what really matters here. Racism is like any other "ism" - it's a belief held by people. Something can only be racist if the people doing it are making a racist point by it, and I very much doubt that these highly educated people of different racial backgrounds were being racist. To say that is absurd, so for people to say that this skit was racist is absurd.

Apparently the story is all over America now... To make the Downey Jr point a bit more obvious, I can't remember anything remotely like the public outcry we're seeing now when Tropic Thunder came out. In fact, Robert Downey Jr got an Academy Award nomination for his role. Incredible how knee-jerk people can react to things like this, isn't it?

Rasberry Fields - Interesting disjointed beat with a mind of it's own but a good flow, nice rhymes and strong delivery. The electronic sounding samples complement the beat well. Battle For Asgard - This one has all the appealing aspects of Rasberry Fields; a nice beat with good flow, good vocal performance and samples. Real Earth - I like the symph parts in the chorus, the samples and when the drums/parts of the drums are sent to the background - it adds a nice dynamic with the rest of the beat that you don't often get with more conventional hip-hop music. In summary, I think this is the kind of hip-hop I could really get into - it's unconventional and unique, but still manages to be executed particularly well. Thanks for the reccomendation!

This will sound harsh, but you deserve to fail. You don't deserve any marks you get should someone here help you. Besides, I don't think it's acceptable on these forums to ask other people to do your homework for you.

On the whole they're a good safety measure and everyone should wear them. I have no problem with fines for offenders because wearing a seatbelt is such a minor thing and its not an inconvenience.

Personally I'm sick to death of the politically correct turn society has taken with these kind of things. It was done jokingly and there was no overt racism whatsoever. Why isn't that enough for people? If people stop to think for a second or bother to do a dictionary check on what racism entails they might come to a more reasonable opinion. The idea that black facepaint in a comedic context means you believe an entire race is inherently inferior is insane.

I'm an avid listener of death metal as well, and I've never felt the urge to act out on any of the lyrics whatsoever. I agree that you'd need to have something wrong with you to do something like this. The Obama comment wasn't actually part of any interview. I think it was before an interview, and he was under the impression that it wouldn't leak. Politicians can have their say on anything they like. The thing I like about Obama's comment in contrast to comments from other politicians is that it's refreshingly honest, obviously because he thought he was just talking to someone one-on-one, not to the public.

I think Barack Obama said it best - the guy's a jackass.

You're right, there is no reason to use it. There's also no reason to get so hung up on it either. It is just a word after all. And I don't understand your "precedent" argument. Are you saying it's wrong to use a word if it has been used for a long enough period of time, but if it's a fresh thing that hasn't been used as often until recently, such as the term "whitey", then this makes it automatically less offensive? I find the n-word and "whitey" to be completely analogous. They are both words concerning one's race in a negative context, regardless of their usage in the past. I'm not passing any moral judgments on whether it's wrong or not. I just think that the reason the n-word is so taboo (or more to the point, the reason that it's so offensive to black people) is the historical experience that they went through. White people don't take offence to "whitey" as much because we've never had the persecution to go along with the pejorative term.

How many times do I need to state that I don't use that word? -.- I don't even speak English irl. How many times do I have to say that I disagree that a word suddenly gets offensive if one with a different skin colour says it? If THEY can use it, then so can I. There's no reason for me to actually say that word, but I don't buy the crap that when I say it, it'd be offensive. It's not crap, it's a fact of life. Most, if not all black people are offended by the n word. I think Nadril makes a good point - there's no reason to go around using the n word (whether or not you use the word is beside the point) if you know it's going to offend people. I mean, I don't find Cannibal Corpse albums that offensive, but I wouldn't walk around in public with their violent artwork pasted on a t-shirt.

To answer your question in a word, yes. Sometimes I think the legal system (be it in Australia or America, but I have a feeling we're not as tough as Americans on this) is too lenient on serious crimes.
