  1. PC4200 (533MHz) runs slower than PC5300 (667MHz). Like a CPU, faster ram should help performance in places, but you'd have to look up how it helps. I can't think of any good examples right now. :? Like the RAM, the bigger number is better. Instead of spinning the platters (the magnetic media inside the drive) at 5400rpm, you're spinning at 7200rpm, speeding up access times to things on the drive. This can make a huge difference if you're transfering large files (or large numbers of files) off and on the drive. Again, the 256MB card should out perform the 128MB card. I don't know what the comparison between the 7600 and x1400 is though. :(
  2. Norton isn't free (unless you want to go "elsewhere" for it). It doesn't need to be used along side AVG either. Add Adaware to that list after dropping Norton and you've got a good start.
  3. When you buy alienware, you're paying for the name and that shiny case (which isn't that cool anyway :? ). I had this arguement with someone on MSN once, and built the *exact* (yes, exact, down to the model names on the Alienware website) same computer AlienWare wanted $3500 for, I carted up for $2100 on Newegg. Anyway, Newegg.com has a pretty wide selection of laptops. Decent low end laptops for doing school work on and some high end stuff for gaming if that's what you really want. If anything, it's a good place to look around to see what you can get for your money. Wouldn't hurt to order it there either. Great shipping times and service. Edit ---- I've gotta comment on the Dell hating. The Inspiron laptop my dad bought unopened off ebay has worked flawlessly. I hate to say it, but the people that buy Dell all the time, usually aren't the best at keeping computers free of spyware and the like (not all, most). It may have been a hardware issue, but it was most likely spyware and so on. :x
  4. I have a whole 60 some posts on this reincarnation of TIF. I guarantee you it has nothing to do with how much I know people or know the rules. Trusting someone over an arbitrary number is going to get you burned. What would you think if someone spent the time over a few days making meaningful posts, getting several hundred post count and THEN infecting you? Trusting post count for maturity/security is like trusting notepad as your virus scanner. Isin't that just what I suggested? :-s Woops. I must have missed reading it somehow.
  5. Simple solution. Do it like RSO and hide the stupid thing, and don't tell me it's "copying jagex". It fixes the problem. Limit view of the post count to the person's profile and just their replys. No more publicly viewable post count means no more bragging about it. Anyone that posts anything about it will automatically be assumed a liar as they always are without "proof". No more post count spammers trying to raise their rank, and no more mud fights over a stupid number. if (post author == current logged in name) { display post count in post } So, you will see your post count in only your own posts, and your profile. Then make a shiny new rule about posting screenshots of your postcount. Or you could just bite the bullet, remove it entirely and let the kiddies cry. If they leave over a number, they weren't worth the bandwidth anyway. :?
  6. The socket 939 is a whole $2 more than the AM2. Comparison at Newegg. AMD will also be continuing production of 2 939 chips for a while, so there's still an upgrade path, if needed at all. Most people build an entire new rig when a processor becomes obsolete anyway because of other bottle necks. Also, if you do a bit of digging, DDR2 doesn't boost the AM2 chips performance much at the moment. Socket 939 X2 prices will be cut on July 24th too. Oh, and the memory controller is still on die. Doing a little research before posting would help you out a bit. :?
  7. I don't know the specs for Spore (never heard of it :? ), but my A64 3000+ and 6800GS (256mb AGP) handle Half Life 2 on high just fine. So, assuming it's the same graphics quality or lower end, that rig should eat it alive. I don't know alot about video editing, but 2gb ram should be enough to get the job done. If that doesn't do the job, you can always toss another stick in to speed things along.
  8. One word: Money Who is going to pay for this new server? Tip.it already shells out an untold amount for the dedicated boxes for the forums and website. Both are already worked to their limits, so, no tacking teamspeak onto one of those. You've then got bandwidth, moderation, and who knows what else. If they won't admin their own IRC server (much less bandwidth and power than TS), teamspeak isn't going to happen. Searching for simliar topics still on page 1 of the suggestion board would help too...
  9. Ha. Not to mention the needed bandwidth for the 10 people that would use TS.
  10. I wouldn't use it, but just building on that idea, an option to just turn of signature images as a second option would be usefull for dialup users. That would still leave readable text, quotes, and so on in signatures, while massivly helping their load times. As for signature sizes, I think they're fine as is. Increasing width by 100px would be ok as long as bytes aren't increase so you aren't further burying dialup users (irrelevant if the above option is added tho).
  11. It may look funny to you, but if the person's camera is rotated even slightly more than yours, it'll look like text over an empty space. People were amazed by it back in RSC, for about a day, then they figured out nobody else sees it's funny.
  12. More pics from the morning after the update. Amulets got bugged at the same time, making them look darker when you're wearing them.
  13. It's not equipment. You drop the rocks on someone in the tunnels. It's very easy to hit a 110+ on someone when you time it right. It just required a sara brew 99hp + 15% + 2 = 115.85 (assume 115) Timed right, if you can drink the potion, join the waiting room at under 1 minute to go, and have someone with you to run straight to the rocks, it's very easy to hit a 114.
  14. Funny. Really is. Jagex threatens Tip.It/"The Editor" with legal action, and it's brushed off, but in your own FAQ it says you will do "everything in our power to get your site closed down" for reproducing content AND citing the source. Yet, Tip.it publishes an acticle, bashing jagex to hell and back (without a hint of proof either), and expects to get away with it. I think Jagex has a decent point when an article blatantly filled with LIES is posted on the front page of a large fan site. Gower has every right to be ticked off at tip.it for it too. Refering to "DrugAbuser1" That's funny too. If you're seriously *that* offended by a name with "drug" and "abuser" in the same place, you should go deal with all the dealers out on the street instead of spending time whining about it on the forums. :)
  15. Exactly. The people on IRC noticed this several days ago. A day later his sister appeared in the tip.it IRC room thanking everyone for all the support and messages. Someone asked about his RS account and we were told it had "been taken care of". It's rather obvious that his family knew all about what he did online. They knew how to cancel his membership, they knew about the Tip.It IRC room and most likely had a word with customer support and had the account locked. Either way, it's for the best having the account locked. It may not be on the highscores, but it's safely tucked away where no one can get to it with all the publicity the name has gotten.
  16. He will be greatly missed in #stats and #runescape alike. His determination and friendship won't be forgoten by those he knew. We've lost a great friend and player. Shiva, rest in peace man.
  17. Interesting read. Did you tell them you're a tip.it mod? :P
  18. Plug it in and go. No setup needed unless you're doing something more advanced (sounds like you aren't :P). Windows should detect it if it's installed correctly. If windows doesn't detect it, it's time to start toubleshooting.
  19. so it was a problem with the fan? thats odd it cause programs 2 freeze only. :s u mean that it had nothing 2 do with ure ram? Having a case fan die can cause alot of problems if your computer runs hot. Case fan dies, heat builds up inside the case, causing your RAM or CPU to overheat and start causing errors, which then causes random crashes.
  20. That alone would make it more presentable. It would push the text farther down the page so it looks like a better use of screen space. :P Overall it looks fine for a personal page on a buisness site.
  21. When a 200mhz was considered fast, yes, Intel was king of the hill. We arn't running at 200mhz anymore. Even with Intels latest and greatest dualcore release, AMDs top offering still keeps up easily, and beats it on most fronts. I call shinanigans. My Athlon64 runs WAY cooler than my dad's P4, which keeps his office nice and warm all year round on it's own. Dual cores should run even cooler because they don't spend as long heating up doing a task if it's properly multithreaded. Heat isn't an issue anyway if you have a proper heatsync and thermal material on the chip.
  22. Wouldn't be an issue if you guys would just give back what you've developed from the data sets the community submitted to you. :? I won't go any farther down that road tho.
  23. The formula we currently use for the IRC bot has been posted on our combat project. Have fun with it. :P
  24. Well, if i remember right this was Chaos's puzzle. I talked to him on IRC the day it was started and i was offered the spot.
  25. Just want to set something straight, I've had #30 since way back on page 9. My name is also on the list in the first post for #30. Would appreciate it if the right peice was put in there Water_Faerie. :?
