  1. how did you miss the 15 pages or so on the original topic? he goes to school there and knew a few of the victims. i don't really understand why some people are upset that there should be a memorial day for this. :?
  2. Obviously noone remembers the time before violent video games. When there were no senseless killings and no crazed wackos with guns  what about the UTA killings in 1966..... im pretty sure there were no video games then.... just an example. video games only influence the kids who only want attention and have no real intention of actually carrying out thier plans, these are the kids that usually tell friends, etc. and get stopped before they can even acquire a weapon.
  3. yeah i'm sure he's been planning something of this nature since he was in high school, if maybe not conciously, i bet it was always in the back of his mind somewhere. the thing that separates this from most other school shootings is that he didn't even hint at his plans, and didn't have an accomplice, so the only forewarning was his dark nature and state of mental health.
  4. exactly. people have come to almost "expect" death in Iraq and other disputed parts of the world, so another 200 people dying in an explosion is just counted as another casualty of war. however, when some disturbed person goes and shoots up a university in a peaceful town, it's unexpected and surprising, so it gathers a lot of attention.

That's my idea of heaven. my idea of hell, its the reason why my freshman 15 happened so fast. i perfer steaks anyday. hmm... i never got the freshman 15, still 5'7", 130 lbs, same as high school. i eat deer steaks usually once or twice a week. it's the next best thing to sex. :
  6. because they are in other countries. simply put, most americans have never been to another country, and could care less about deaths in africa, europe or asia. iraq is a bigger issue because many people have friends or family in the military, but still, it's not here, so it gets less attention.
  7. +1 he claims in his video that he did what he did "to inspire the weak people." this has not inspired anyone, or made the world a better place for ANYONE. this has only ruined thousands of people's lives and he is no better than a terrorist.
  8. oh so the president's job should be to go around to each university in the nation and determine that there are no potential mass-murderers attending? please. =;
  9. I agree with Dalcyte, putting an immediate ban on guns would only make things worse. Demand would skyrocket, people would still have them, and people would use them more. Personally, I believe the only way to lower gun crimes is to actually change the opinion of the general public. Right now the general thought in America is: "I need a gun for protection." This thought needs to be reversed. If nobody wants guns, then demand would decrease, and eventually so would gun crime. Only then could gun laws could be passed without causing problems. Eventually the country would become a safer place, and there would be significantly less shootings. I don't really understand the whole idea of "guns for protection." Anyone care to explain that? I think you pretty much explained the correct idea of the "guns for protection" theory. It's a general opinion of people. It's not really needed since I rarely ever here of someone who actually saved lives because they had a gun. I did here of one event where a gunman went out on the street with a shotgun and a guy stopped him with his gun which he got from his home. I just don't see how banning guns would stop shootings. I've said it 2 or 3 times before on this thread, and so have other people. Sick minded criminals like Seung-Hui Cho are not going to let a gun ban stop them from going on a rampage. Sure, the gun ban may stop people from committing small homicides with a gun, but they can just use knives or their own hands. To sum my ideas up, the people who are going to kill one person at a time (serial killers, etc.) can use knives or other objects while the people who want to kill a group of people can use guns which would probably be easy to find if you look. exactly my thoughts. maybe it was unconfirmed before, but after watching those videos he sent to nbc, i'm convinced that this person was determined to kill as many people as possible. if there was a ban on guns, many people have said that he would have simply used a knife. i doubt it, as disturbed as this person was. he would have found a way to obtain a gun, or even worse, possibly explosives, which could have been even more deadly.
  10. disgusting. in the tape he sent to nbc, cho compares himself to Jesus Christ. :-X
  11. actually, what needs to stop here, is the STUPID flaming by people with NOTHING of value to contribute to the topic. i have a question for anyone who thinks guns should be outlawed. How do you propose we eliminate them? Are you going to come around and collect all the guns from everyone in America? Hmm? If not, then who's going to make us give them up?
  12. me too. all i could find for certain is that he blamed "rich kids" and that "you caused me to do this," but i couldnt find out who the "you" meant, the school? society? the "rich kids"? i dont know. Edit: just found this, still doesnt explain "you" though......
  13. I find it sad that there was not a chance to help this man, but he lost it himself, so I can't be sorry for him. but there was a chance to help him, his english teacher referred him to therapy after reading some of his disturbing writing, but he chose to keep it bottled up inside instead of seeking help. there is only so much that other people can do to help you. no one can be helped unless he helps himself. this is why i have no sympathy for the killer.
  14. If we don't hunt, species will overgraze, will over reproduce, and what we will find is huge animal diseases killing off half the planet. And this is also the same for domesticated animals. pfft, i could say that humans are overgrazing and killing off all other species for our selfishnses yeah because survival is so selfish, personally i think all lions and other meat eating animals should be converted to vegetarians. its really terrible. i know someone who even forced thier dog to become a vegetarian. now THAT's animal cruelty.. but. back to the topic at hand.
  15. Because chances are, those countries aren't as big and as diverse as the US. And yes, the border control is pretty crappy. yeah but when the government tries to keep illegal immigrants(and drugs/weapons/etc. that come with them) out, suddenly they're racist and denying people freedom. i think the problem here is that there is no specifically defined problem that has answer x and answer y, there are a huge complex series of problems that all affect each other. people expect someone just to say "guns are banned" and magically all crime disappears.
  16. 1. this guy was obviously disturbed, was referred to therapy by a teacher, and was(i assume) given many opportunities to resolve his problem. however, his decision to kill 32 other people was wrong. it is not your choice to take another person's life. 2. i'm the guy you're talking about, and I hunt for food. I'm in college right now, and free food is good. I'm not going to say I don't enjoy hunting, because that would be a lie. however, i'm not a sick freak that tortures animals, all my kills are as clean as i can possibly make them, and if i don't think i can make a clean kill, i won't take the shot. viktor makes a good point also. I hate to break it to you and open up another can of worms, but the meat at the supermarket had a far worse time while it was alive than the deer i kill in the wild.
  17. They'll sue you, vandalism/violence is how they get their money and power. I can feel your pain, but unfortunately violence isn't the answer. What we need is to do what they did with the Amish girls funeral. Give them air time to yap on so they won't protest. yes, but that kind of bull should just not be allowed. idc about freedom of speech, protesting at something such as this in my opinion is not protected under freedom of speech, it's just agitation. same with burning the flag. wow you just burned a flag, now what did that accomplish? people hate you more, you didnt convince ANYONE that america is bad simply by burning the flag, etc. sorry for the rambling but its the same idea.
  18. i'd bail you out. those people sicken me.
  19. does anyone have a copy of the note the shooter left in his dorm room? the only thing i can find is that it said "you forced me to do this." i'm curious as to what the rest of it says. :-k
  20. that is THE most disgusting thing i've ever heard in my entire life. those are not people of GOD, and if there is a heaven and hell, these people are going straight to hell. :-X
  21. in holland we very rarely have shootings. and if there are its mostly between 2 drugs dealers and other criminals almsot no innocents involved. also the last school shootouts was a few years ago. so banning guns does help. and also do you realy compare alchohol to guns? thats like saying you kil people on a regular basis while you are drinking read my last post please. who said that i kill people with my guns? is that the only thing you can do with a gun is kill? if i'm not mistaken sport shooting is an olympic sport.
  22. Oh yeh, alot of people like a nice quiet drink they must like a nice shooting aswell :-s yes, i very much enjoy shooting for sport, whether it be shooting clays or just target shooting with a .22 and yes, i meant the underground trade of firearms if they were to be banned, but in this sense, you CAN compare alcohol and firearms. i go out and have a drink once in a while, but i'm not an alcoholic. similarly, i shoot and hunt once in a while, but i'm not a mass murderer. while guns may not be a physically addicting drugs, there are other forms of addiction, someone who is mentally disturbed could be classified as physcologically addicted.
  23. And thats why shootings will continue to happen. You can feel sorry, but theres nothing really to be surprised about. Treat guns like a game and this is the outcome. did i ever say it was a game? no. i'm the most responsible person when it comes to gun safetly, i don't accidentally shoot people like our vice president, i don't EVER point a gun in an unsafe direction, loaded or otherwise. guns are definitely not something to take lightly. i've taken gun safety courses, i've had my hunter's ed certification, and when i have children, they will too, whether or not they choose to hunt or even shoot guns. gun control is a great idea, but not in the sense of the word that people use it. banning guns outright is NOT the answer, there needs to be more awareness and gun safety laws. background checks should be required for all guns, but not just criminal records should be considered. everything from medical records to previous jobs should be noted. however, if the government were to ban guns, my additude would change significantly.
  24. apparently, no one has heard of prohibition. Hey, lets ban alchohol, that's sure to reduce crime. banning guns would have an even worse effect.
  25. most of the people i know, including myself, would not give up firearms without a fight, and we have never had bad intentions by owning guns.
