  1. I love that shot, though I rarely shoot at ISO 3200. It's not so much the noise that bothers me the most, but it loses sharpness too. This softness works for this photo but I wouldn't think that it's worth trying to sell prints with sharpness like this normally (i.e subjects that require sharpness) Remember for "good" photos of animals and people. In this shot the eyes are still sharp, which is good, but I'd use ISO 3200 with care. I shoot ISO 800 or less when I can. Nice shot though.
  2. Updated with lots of photos taken between May and now. Enjoy.
  3. That's fantastic, I'll get right on it. Thanks again! :)
  4. I've used blueyonder's PCGuard for a long time now, and have recently discovered that it is useless at protecting my computer from viruses, spyware and various other internet nasties. I uninstalled the "all in one solution" from blueyonder and installed AVG, Zonealarm and spybot S&D. AVG found trojans and worms and, I thought, got rid of them. Spybot S&D found about 60 spyware and, I thought, sorted it. However, when a friend looked at a HJT log I sent them, they said I still had problems, but didn't specify what the problems were. They're now away on holiday and I want this sorted as soon as possible and I was hoping someone could tell me what's wrong with my computer, what program to use to remove it and how to do it. I realise it's alot to ask but I would really appreciate this. 5. I used to buy the New Scientist a while back, but it is a weekly magazine so it 's a bit more expensive than monthly's overall. But it does have some great articles and caters for all sciences. Link
  6. I don't agree with people who push religion on us, but Christmas does bring people together. The reasons might be wrong, but if you're looking at this purely from the utilitarian point of view, you could say that this is a great thing. Lots of people are happy. Isn't that a good thing? Plus, because 'tis the season, people can be more charitable and help ease the suffering in the third world. What ever the reasons for Atheists celebrating Christmas, the result is good so why complain?
  7. Cluttered, but that's to be expected of a stat sig. 4/10
  8. I've got some great news: I'm allowed to buy my new lens soon, and recover the money later. But this will be my last lens for a while... :( So I'm going to order it soon and when it arrives I'll be out shooting for a while and then I'll upload the photos to my gallery. Can't wait!
  9. Great news for Canon photographers! The Canon EOS 40D has finally been released! The body alone will cost ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã900 and it boasts a 10.1MP CMOS sensor, 6.5 fps burst mode for 75 JPEGs and a huge 3" LCD display with live view. This camera looks like its going to be a huge hit with many amateurs and I know I'll be upgrading to this in a few years once the shutter on my 20D is worn out. The frightening thing is that at 6.5fps, and a 100,000 shutter life, you can burn through the shutter in 4.27 hours :? Link
  10. George Orwell is definitely my favourite author. He always wrote such fantastic, thought provoking novels.
  11. You have to bear in mind that it's a macro lens, designed to be used for 1:1 reproduction and for macro work a tripod is essential. Remember that for macro work, you're unlikely to be using the widest aperture, more often than not you'll be using smaller apertures (F/22-F/32) to get a decent depth of field. The F/2.8 aperture is ideal for portraits though.
  12. Two years from now I hope to go to Glasgow Caledonian University to study optometry and then I'll hopefully have a good few years during my probations then, if I'm confident enough, become a locum optometrist and make big bucks. If no, I'll hopefully find a small opticians where I can work from 9-5 and work there 'till retirement age. I've got to get 5 Bs at Higher to gain entry and since Glasgow Caledonian is the only place that teaches this course in Scotland, it's gonna be pretty damn competitive. :ohnoes:
  13. Cool, Im thinking about buying that one also. Im really into macro shots. I think Ill buy the EF-S though. :) Im also looking for one. The Canon manual said something about a Canon Polariser, I have to check online how much it costs. If its too much, I think Ill buy one from B+W or Cokin. And navy, welcome back. I thought you left, but you keep coming back :) That lens is a great lens but is let down by the lack of USM which means you can't use a polariser for it. @ Woopidoo2: Why would you want and EF-S version of that lens? Those lenses can't be used on film/full frame cameras should you upgrade in the future.
  14. Were you using autofocus? Often if you have a shiny metal subject your camera can have trouble focusing. Also, if you're using AI servo autofocus (continuous autofocus) when you press the shutter release down fully, the camera will take a photo regardless of whether the focus is right or not. I like the second GT40 shot, but all the others don't do it for me. I don't really like the close crops but I love the dramatic sky.
  15. I've never seen you before... I don't venture away from the gallery and OT forums these days... 3/10
  16. Rocket blower What to do: Check battery power - if it is low don't attempt it - you're putting a bit of plastic in your camera and if the battery is low the camera will bring the mirror down on it if it runs out of power. Go to MENU and scroll to the bottom and select SENSOR CLEANING. This will lock the mirror up and allow access to the sensor. Place the nozzle of the rocket blower into the camera, be careful not to touch the sensor. Blow the air at the sensor and this should dislodge the dust. Then just take the rocket blower out and turn the camera off. Having done that put the lens back on. FINI
  17. Some great photos you have there, and welcome to the winning team! Canon You've chosen some great lenses, I love my 50mm F/1.8 MKI (metal mount) and I've seen some great shots from my friend's 30D with the MKII. The 70-200 F/4L USM is a fantastic lens with great image quality, near silent focusing and L glass for a great price. Having tried that at my camera shop, I found that the aperture was a little small for me so I'm going for the F/2.8 Non-IS version - but it's heavier and bulkier. The tamron, I've heard is a great lens but the only problem is that if you want to upgrade to a full frame camera, you will have to invest in a different lens. If you're wanting to buy lenses that you can use on full frame cameras, you should look for "DG" in Sigma, "Di" in Tamron and EF in Canon. Avoid "DC", "Di II" and "EF-S" if you want to upgrade to the 5D or the 1Ds, 1Ds Mk II, 1Ds Mk II/n or the 1D Mk III. Which all have full frame CMOS sensors or APS-H sized CMOS sensors. Remember that on your 20D all the focal lengths are multiplied by 1.6 due to the smaller sensor. The 70-200mm F/4 becomes a 112-320mm F/4. The 50mm F/1.8 becomes an 80mm F/1.8. The 17-55mm F/2.8 becomes a 27-88mm F/2.8 Congratulations on your new camera and if you want any advice on how to use it give me a private message or e-mail and I'll tell you what I know. The 20D is a fantastic camera but remember if you're going out in the rain, to take water housing for it or even a plastic bag to cover it with. The 70-200mm is as far as I know weather sealed. If the front optic rotates during focusing or zooming, don't get a circular polariser for it. The 50mm F/1.8 can't use a polariser but the 70-200mm certainly can. I'm not sure about the 17-55mm F/2.8 I look forward to seeing more of your photos. EDIT: If you're going for a graduated filter I would suggest getting a square filter set. Lee Filters are the best, if the most expensive. Cokin make good filters too, you'll want the P-sized filters for your lenses. Remember that if your using a polariser to get a circular polariser, this way both AF and MF can be used. ND grads are great but you can create the same effect in photoshop, but it's always best to get it right at the time. Remember that the polarisers and other coloured filters will reduce the amount of light reaching the sensor so you'll maybe have to use a wider aperture or higher ISO/ASA.
  18. Well, I'm taking five highers officially, but I'm studying music during lunch to hopefully get myself a sixth higher. I'm going for a job that there's only one university in Scotland that offers it. So I've got to have more to offer than all the other applicants - fifty-six places for each year. It'll be pretty damn competitive. Hopefully I'll be able to manage the six, but if I can't - music is out.
  19. Whatcha get? :?:
  20. To be fair, its the decent thing to do to be polite to all women, especially your girlfriend. Imagine if someone forgot your birthday. You'd be annoyed. Angry. Anniversaries are the "birth" of your relationship. It should be celebrated. Let's face it, if you can't be bothered to remember another few dates and spend maybe ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã10 on chocolates and a card, what does that say about how much you care for her? It's the little things that make them feel special and you can spoil her on a few days of the year. And does it really hurt to be diplomatic about her physique? The pressure women are under these days to be thin seems to be overwhelming. Why not make her feel like she is gorgeous, if she is this is no problem but, what's wrong with a white lie to make them feel better. If you genuinely don't think she looks good and is horrible to look at, you could tell her but remember, you can only change so much about yourself. And I it was poking fun at our stereotypes, so it is pretty much mimicking the guy's rules for girls.

  22. (Fixed spelling errors - OCD  ) What law might this be? If you could give me a source I might actually take your arguments seriously. How does our "mental maturity" affect the decision to give out your MSN address to someone over the internet. I've never had anyone contact me over my location or my account details. If I did, I'd utilise a function MSN have, but it's probably to hard for us mentally immature ones to find and fathom how to use it and what it does. This feature is BLOCK CONTACT. It's simple enough - you don't like where a conversation is heading, block them and your problem is solved. I don't think your going to get much support by calling us all "mentally immature" and "naive". Give us actual evidence to back up what your saying. Don't swear that you've got it. Show us!
  23. 1. Got up at 5:45am 2. Checked results online. 3. Did a little dance. 4. Checked again, just to be sure. 5. Had breakfast. 6. Went to work at 9:00am. 7. Back for lunch. 8. Talk to dad about funeral arrangements and circumstances of his death of a family friend. 9. Back to the grind. 10. Back home. 11. Made dinner. 12. Eat dinner. 13. Watch TV 14. Log onto internet and here I am! EDIT When you get wisdom teeth removed you don't just go to the dentist, get em pulled then leave! You go to the hospital and get extensive surgery where they clamp open your cheeks, cut open your gums and take out the wisdom teeth. After that you have to stay in the hospital sometimes for a few days, and usually can't do anything for about a week. Nice try though. =; 'Nuff said, I think its possible he had his wisdom teeth out.
  24. Well I think that Tip.It do an awful lot to warn people of the e-mail scams and frequently warn us that they don't send us e-mails and nor do Jagex. Short of sending private messages to everyone who choose to display their e-mail address, there isn't a lot more they can do. And abolishing the MSN button won't stop people trying some real world trading (I assume this is what RWT means?) through private messaging. The ignorant shouldn't ruin it for the average user.
