  1. Smithing doesn't have to be super-slow to be expensive. You can average 50k+ XP per hour and make decent money, around 100k per hour using good smithing methods once you reach level 88 and can make addy plates. And that's without using any tools from Stealing Creation. It's worth it to buy your way to level 88, or do mith bolts even though they are pretty slow and just OK money wise. But from then on, it's a waste to do something like buy gold ore to smelt, or premade bars to smith.
  2. It's not a good idea to melee Catablepons, they consistently lower your strength. Plus I think both they and especially Ankous would be far too much to handle at his levels. I would advise you to work on Slayer as much as possible, using Vannaka in Edgy dungeon. Perhaps use Mazchna in Canifis if you are getting too many assignments from Vannaka that you can't handle.
  3. You might as well make your own stuff. Buy gold bars and craft amulets or bracelets, for example. I would think the limit on gold bars is at the very least 1k per 4 hours, and probably significantly higher than that.
  4. Really? With the pure essence you get in addition to the herbs, they're normally a lot more profitable than chaos druids. You should make a lot more money with these than chaos druids, and I thought your goal was making money :?
  5. Wouldn't it be easier to sip the super energy and put the vial back in the bank? You have to bank at least twice anyways to fill your pouches, if you take the super energy out with your first batch of ess, you can drink, fill pouches & familiar, then deposit the potion when you go to withdraw ess the second time. Then you don't waste an inventory spot with the potion.
  6. Yeah, your best bets for buying junk at stores are tinderboxes, which you buy for 1 and have a GE price of 14 - these will maximize your value, since your junk will be worth 14 times what you paid. I think chisels also buy for 1 and sell for 14. You could also try fur at the Varrock fur trader - you will build up value here a lot quicker, because you buy fur for 20 and its GE value is 111, though the return on your money is less. There may be better stuff out there, this was just from a cursory glance at prices.
  7. I don't have any numbers to back it up, but I do know that a Graahk run is 2/3 to 3/4 the time of an abyss run. Over the 50 minutes you have your Graahk, I would think the 9k difference is made up for. However, abyss crafting does have the benefit of using terrorbirds instead of pots for energy, or abyssal familiars for an extra 7 ess per run, so who knows? Maybe death crafting through the abyss is better until level 91, when you add up all the factors.

I hope you are doing these things all at once.

No, you will lose money on addy plates, even if you can find enough on the GE to buy in bulk. Unless you get them well below market price, but even then you can't make anywhere near 108 per plate.
  10. It's actually 1701 runs, you can only mine 27 ore at a time since you need an inventory space to remove your gold helmet in order to exit the mine. You can log out and in to exit without taking off the helmet, but that's a real pain.
  11. Now that there are no pkers to worry about, it should be pathetically easy.
  12. The special happens rarely, but Keris is still very strong against Kalphites. Use it if you are fighting the higher levelled ones.
  13. Fire bolt/blast/wave at metal dragons. Wave is pretty fast XP and you will likely get enough good drops to make up for some or even most of your lost cash, plus HP XP of course. Get lucky and score a visage, and you'll definitely profit a LOT. You'll also walk out with a ton of charms, though unfortunately most of them will be green. Enchant onyx at Mage Training Arena is extremely fast, even though you only get 3/4 normal XP for the spell. Relatively cheap, too, though you will end up out several mil.
  14. Powermining granite is tops for XP/hr. If you want to keep ores, than mining iron with a spirit kyatt and dueling rings/glory ammies is your best bet. Without the help of a Kyatt, your best option for keeping ores is the iron outside of Port Khazard, banking in Yanille.
  15. Yeah, the air obelisk is the fastest obelisk to get to, WAY faster than fire, and you will get the most XP and money per hour this way. I also suspect that air orbs sell much better than the other kinds, because they give the most crafting XP when made into battlestaffs. You might also consider buying molten glass and blowing your own orbs, if you want some crafting XP. It will cut into your profits to the tune of about 120 gp per orb, but it's fast experience since you never have to move from the bank.
  16. Steel platebodies take an extremely long amount of time to sell. Iron even moreso. These would make good junk.
  17. Mining coal is only worth it if you superheat mith or addy while you do it. And even then, it's barely worth it.
  18. There is only 1 mith rock in edgeville dungeon. The guild is probably the best for members, since there people don't mine there very often. You could also try lumby swamp - if you glory to draynor and run back down, it's about the same distance and running back and forth from the mining guild to the bank.

Arranging 5 dust devils into a 3x3 area is not difficult to do. Further testing tonight may (or may not) yield a way to arrange 6 or (doubtfully) 7. It's a very fast method for killing them, far from stupid and useless. They're not agressive and once they die they don't respawn at the spot you killed them. Bursting dust devils is the dumbest idea I have ever heard on these forums. If you weren't completely ignorant, you'd know that none of that matters. You can get them in the right spot in 10-15 seconds.

So then you're only looking to kill 3 or 4 before a respawn then? That's a bit different ;) With my melee stats it is much faster to ice burst them.

Somehow I doubt that you kill 8 dust devils before the first one respawns, even at max melee - which, as you can see, I'm nowhere near. Their respawn rate can't be more than 30 seconds even on a half-full world. I usually burst them on a full or nearly full world, and it takes around 10 seconds for them to respawn. I watched a level 133 with a bunyip kill them, he wasn't killing more than 2 before the first one had respawned, and usually not even that fast.

The only thing I would add that is an absolute must for magic (and not just for pvp, either) is that when you unequip a staff set to autocast a certain spell, that it still be set to autocast that spell when you re-equip it.

  24. Excellent, greys seem like the way to go. Thanks

I'm sorry, I took it that you meant faster when you said, um, the word faster ;) And Dust Devils have a pretty good charm drop rate for a fairly low level monster. I'd say you get a charm from 40-50% of kills, the majority of which are crimson, most of the rest being gold. Not too shabby.
