What did you give to your papa?
I can picture him circling which ones he wants and giving the drawing/"catalog" back to you. :XD: I hope not... :uhh:

What did you give to your papa?
I drew him a picture on the computer, then printed it out and coloured it with coloured pencils. My dad is famous for saying "Life is about options." So I picked his three favourite things in the world (wine, cars and watches) and drew a picture about it :P

New Report
It's definitely not a necessary change. If you're so worried about spending too much time on reports, you can always just select the "Spam" category and let the moderator figure it out. Of course, spending the extra 4 seconds to type out the problem would be nice. We cannot have a report option for every single possible thing that could be posted. I think our current options are enough.

AH thanks for the tip. I think i'm going to work on a second one asap. Purples and blues, hmm... Interesting color choice for a tan skintone. I'll try it! It all depends on the environment :) Using colours from the background to shade your subject can help the person better fit into the environment because the colours in your environment will reflect onto your skin. Here are some examples: [hide=] Notice the yellow/gold shadows? And then there's also pink on the face, in addition to just tans and browns. It helps the person look natural in the environment since the background is a goldish colour.[/hide] [hide=] Notice the purple shadows on the girl.[/hide] [hide=] There's a big of purple on the left side of the face, but mostly there's a lot of red and yellow. There's also some purple shadows on her shirt.[/hide] So you don't strictly have to stick to purples and blues, that was just an example. It all depends on your background/environment. That's why it's usually good to decide the background before working on the subject. Those were all randomly picked from deviantART by the way.

Pretty good job for your first digital artwork :) THe anatomy is really the biggest issue here. The head is too oval, there isn't much structure to the face, the eyes almost look glazed over, the right shoulder (his left, our right) looks very odd. It like curves down way too much. As for the colours, you did a pretty good job. I think the highlights are a bit extreme though. I would recommend branching out a bit with your colours too. Rather than picking a tanish midtone and then making the shadows just darker brown and the highlights lighter brown and white.. branch out a bit. Depending upon the mood and environment, you could also add in some purples, blues, yellows, etc.

MrShiny answered your question pretty well. The consumer DSLR's will be around $500. I have, however, seen some incredible pictures taken with point and shoots as well. My particular set up was: [*:3pp0ka1p]Canon XSi DSLR (body only) - $600 [*:3pp0ka1p]Canon EF-S 10-22mm - $650 [*:3pp0ka1p]Canon EF-S 18-55mm IS - $135 [*:3pp0ka1p]Canon EF 100-400mm L IS - $1575 As you can see, that's very expensive. For the landscape shots, the 18-55mm IS works just fine. While I liked the 10-22m, I didn't find it necessary to have over the 18-55. Most of the time I found myself shooting between 18-22 anyway. If you buy the Canon XSi with the kit lens, then you do get a discount and it's only like $684 or so. Other good options are the Canon XTi ($500) and the Canon XT ($450). I haven't used anything other than the XSi but I've heard great things about all the ones I mentioned and those that MrShiny mentioned. Also, if you buy any of these used, you can get them for a few hundred dollars less. One thing I would like to mention, is that several of the older models (XT and XTi, I believe) have a 18-55mm kit lens. This is different from the 18-55mm IS kit lens that I use. If you ever decide to buy one of those older models, I would buy the body only and then buy the 18-55mm IS lens separately. I have never used the non-IS version, but I have heard that the IS version is better in almost every way, and not just because it has image stabilization. I've heard that it focuses faster, is generally better built, and has better image quality.

Moderator Applications - Now Closed
It's really just as much space as you require to fully answer the questions. A paragraph should suffice, but if you can further condense it, I'm sure a few sentences is okay too. If you need more than a paragraph to say everything that you would like to say, then that's fine too. There is no specific number of sentences that you have to have in order to be considered. Your application will be read and considered regardless of how much you write. Of course, it would be best if you didn't half-[wagon] it and answer each question with half a sentence, and similarly, don't ramble on aimlessly.

Yeah it did take some getting used to at first. But with a range as large as 100-400, the push and pull system is probably more efficient than the twist version, I think. On my trip, I mostly used it at 400 and 100 - rarely anywhere in between. But that was for actual picture taking.. the one thing I did like about the zoom was that it was easier to locate and frame subjects while I was zoomed out. By that I mean, when whale watching, it was hard for me to locate whales with my eye and then quickly point my camera to that exact spot. When you only have like 2 seconds to get the picture, you need to be looking through your camera. But if you're looking through it at 400 when you don't know where the whale is, it's hard to spot the whale when it decides to come up. So the easiest way, for me, was to look through my camera at 100 then quickly zoom in for the shot when the whale pops up. Same thing for birds in flight. Screw it.. I'll just get the 400mm f/2.8L  But seriously, thanks for the article, it was an interesting read. And the difference between the pictures is incredible! If I ever decide to take the plunge, I might just get the prime.

Thank you :) I did have a lot of fun :) Yes, I loved them both :) I didn't find myself needing the 10-22mm much though, as I was content with my 18-55mm, but it was still a great lens. And the 100-400 was fantastic. Man is that thing heavy though! It is a fantastic piece of glass though. I still have about another week on my rental, so I'll probably take it out around my house to get closer pictures of deer and coyotes (and a mountain lion if I'm lucky, but I doubt it :P).

Dude, having a center shot is much more preferable than above or below, for a landscape. They do not create tension, as they balance each other with sky and water. I'm in love with number 6. The tranquility you captured is great. Thanks so much, I'm glad you like it :) Thanks! :D 8 is one of my favourites too.

First Large Pice
I like the concept but I agree with what the above posters have said. The composition is very simple and there isn't much going on. I also feel like the girl doesn't fit in with the background very well. The colours are just so different, so she doesn't look like she's part of the scene at all. If you could make her look more natural in the environment (mostly in terms of colours, I think), then the picture would look much better. Keep it up

She'll probably unleash them in the Photo of the Month competition :ohnoes: Mwahahaha   Well I actually didn't take any in Alaska, because I was juggling enough lenses without my macro lens :P My bag was HEAAAAAAAAAAAAAVY!!!! But I will be posting some for the Photo of the Month competition soon ;) Thanks for all the comments and suggestions guys :) Alaska is definitely an incredible place. Laxaria - I usually don't like messing with my photos that much. I've never been into photo manipulation much. I just like leaving my photos the way they were straight out of the camera as much as possible. Occasionally I convert to B&W or Sepia but that's usually the extent of my editing. The eagle picture would have been much better if I could have been closer to it. But they're not quite as daring as seagulls :XD: Shin - Thanks for your thoughts and the suggestions :) I do have a problem with unoriginal horizon line placements. Especially in Alaska where the water and sky are both of equal beauty. It's hard for me to choose one to emphasize :XD: I'll definitely work on it though.

Thank you very much :) All images are taken with a Canon XSi. As for lenses... I used three on my trip: [*:189zwizu]Canon EF-S 18-55mm IS [*:189zwizu]Canon EF-S 10-22mm [*:189zwizu]Canon EF 100-400mm L IS The eagle picture was taken with the 100-400mm. And here's the first one without the sepia: Thank you! :) I had a great time! I wish I saw more bears and at least one breaching whale, but oh well :P I still had a nice time. I only saw one bear from really far away. I wasn't going to post the image since the quality is horrible due to extreme cropping and it isn't something I'd call artsy, but I guess I will anyway: This was something I'd classify as a "Vacation Snapshot" picture, but oh well :P I guess bears are fun to look at anyway. I wish I could have gotten a better picture of one. This was taken from the boat.. the bear was barely a speck in the distance >.<

I believe that embedded hide tags are not currently possible with this version of phpBB. But embedded hide tags are certainly something that we'd all like to see and hopefully it will become available in the future!

I haven't posted my photos here in ages.. so I guess I'll post something :XD: These are all pictures taken in Alaska. I just got back from a 7 day Alaskan cruise. I'm sure a lot of these don't scream "Alaska" but I tried to pick the most artsy photos of the bunch since this is The Gallery and not the Vacation Snapshot forum :P [hide=8 Pictures]1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 [/hide]

Is RS Your 'Dirty Little Secret?'
Well I never went out of my way to tell people that I played RuneScape, but I certainly wasn't embarrassed to that extent. Plus, my parents loved to tell as many people as they could (mainly cousins and other relatives) that I played "Run-Scape" (they pronounced it like that).
