I'm ashamed to say that the 'London youth' applies to me too. The riots are appalling, unwarranted and downright ridiculous. I'm sure a vast majority of the rioters have no idea what sparked the initial riots, as they are too thick to understand, and merely want free stuff. Quote twitter "The Youth of the Middle East rise up for basic freedoms. The Youth of London rise up for a HD ready 42" Plasma TV". That quote basically sums up my thoughts - these people are everything that is wrong with this country.

Don't forget RuneScape uses a massive percentage of your CPU, so it can easily cause overheating. That's very true. Is it just me or is runescape poorly coded and takes up massive %ages of CPU and GPU? Or is that just what is required for such a game.. Or it could be perhaps that is it is coded in a variant of java, which is a bad choice for such a massive game.

Seeing as it only crashes when playing RS, it seems to be something to do with the graphics. We'll need that speccy screenshot for temps as well as to find out if there is a discrete graphics card. It could be just overheating, but the graphics card could be dieing too.
-
We need to know your graphics card On windows XP: Click Start, click Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System. On the Hardware tab, click Device Manager. On vista/7: 1. Click the Start button to view the Start Menu and then choose the Control Panel option. Now click the System and Security link from this window. The System and Security section of Control Panel opens up and you can see the direct link for the Device Manager. Then go to the 'display adaptor' section. Tell us what it says there.

I think you can get mATX board with 4 DIMM slots, but those will probably be the more expensive ones.

It turns off, essentially. I agree that's not particularly descriptive. It does suggest a wide variety of causes, one of which is overheating. It is more likely to be overheating than one of an assortment of obscure causes, and the fact that most people don't habitually clean their computer from dust makes overheating even more likely.

Mod Edit: removed quote of a spam post. 1mb/h is nothing. That's less than 1 mp3 song file. You can't just throw out random accusations of botting - the same amount of bandwith would be consumed during normal play as opposed botting, just about. OP just avoid media streaming sites and downloading stuff. That 2 gb will quickly add up with so many users.

So are firefox's. However that discussion is entirely irrelevant to the problem at hand. I would argue that the RS Client was best at handling RS. OP, it's probably due to your computer being old. Try lowering graphics settings, and also tell us your computer specs, or give us a printscreen of speccy http://www.piriform.com/speccy

Justtt finished reading Brisingr by Christopher Paolini (Eragon etc series) for the second (third?) time. What an amazing book :o Can't wait for the 4th book, and I've got a couple of theories as to some things that will happen too.
-
That's rather hot. You should open it up and clean it out - chances are it's clogged full of dust. Clean out all of the fans. Be careful not to touch any components though. The problem explained by OP shows classic characteristics of overheating. Of course, there are a multitude of things that it could be, as is the case with any computer problem. However, seeing as overheating has been the cause of many similar problems described in these forums, and also the fact that your average person doesn't really think about dust accumulating in their computer, suggesting cleaning it out is a very simple step which will probably solve the problem. Of course, if that doesn't work I'm always happy to help out troubleshooting.

Could be due to overheating, as Raiouken said. Turn off your computer, open it up and clear out any dust in there. If that fails, have a look at this thread and try some stuff in there, although I'm not sure how much help they will be in your situation.

To get the price down, I recommend choosing products that are good, of course, but good ones that are part of a combo which can save a LOT of money, as shown in the build I produced (saving $67). Yes I probably shouldn't have gone with MSI, I recently used a similar board to the one in that list in a build and it caused me quite a few headaches. edit: I was looking at getting rid of the MSI board, but most full ATX boards are much more expensive than mATX boards. If you're fine with an mATX board I will happily have a look.

and this CPU cooler (OEM CPU). Total $498.88. That could easily go down though if you want to save a little more, I know you don't really get a lot of change from your $500 from that. That's what I've come up with, you get a decent graphics card in there as well (a 5770 is like $20ish more).

Try what sy suggested, and if that doesn't work try running linux off a usb or CD to just test that the computer works.

Help: How to Remote Connect FROM A PC TO A MAC
Guy replied to SlayerMalk's topic in Tech and Computers
Your topic was still within the first 5ish, and on the first page - no need to bump in the T&C forums really. Have you tried Nyo's solution? -
What kind of router would support so many different internet connections? Linksys routers aren't all that great anymore. If it's an old one, no matter what the brand it will not be as good as new ones are today. Cisco/linksys are no longer as good as they may once have been. Routers are rather cheap, around £40, or $65 (it should be cheaper in the US though). If you could post a speedtest from speedtest.net it would be helpful, to make sure it's not your ISP slowing down your internet and it is in fact your router.

Try using only one stick at a time in the #1 RAM slot to see if that helps. However faulty RAM shouldn't stop the board from posting at all. I would suggest running memtest86 but you can't even do that because you can't access the computer at all. That leads me to think that perhaps the monitor may be faulty, as bad RAM shouldn't stop POSTing. This guide may be useful. However going through this points to motherboard and/or CPU and/or RAM failure, which doesn't help a whole lot. I found this thread which details problems similar to yours. This may also help. If your motherboard came with a speaker, does it make any beeps? Confusing :L

There's no onboard graphics with the P67 chipset. However the advice is good - just start from scratch. It's likely that you've simply forgotten to plug in the power to something, or forgotten the SATA cables or something. Come back to us if that doesn't do anything.
-
I was just including them to demonstrate that the budget allowed them :P

Is it at particular times, such as in the evenings, or on the weekends especially? That could be to do with high WAN traffic. Is it while you two are playing simultaneously? That could be high LAN traffic. It's probably just the games because they'll use more data than internet browsing.. I presume. Anyway it'd be good to know the details of when it happens.

That's what I've come up with as a general idea. For some reason Ebuyer have taken all of their 6970's and most of their 6950's off their website, so just pretend there are 2 6970's there. They're ~270 quid each, so add another 540ish onto that total in the image. Benchmarks and game plays suggest the dual 6970's are better than a single 6990, and quieter. I normally wouldn't suggest CF at the absolute beginning of a build but in this case its probably best. You can overclock both GFX cards and the CPU cooler here allows for some nice OC'ing on that SB chip. As spork suggested you should find out if you need workstation graphics cards.

Why did you need/want the SR-2 so much?
-
It should be fine and not require reactivation if it's the same motherboard I think. edit: You only need to call microsoft when using the same hard drive on a different motherboard, AFAIK. The ToS legally covers you so if your motherboard fails you are legally still allowed to use the copy of windows on the replacement motherboard of the same type. It's not like they enforce the ToS massively though..
