I believe you need -65 mage to fail every time, not sure on that. Try the zombies in the basement of the mages guild.

The Gnome amulet is +13 defence to everything, which is very good, unless I'm thinking of a different amulet. And I dunno about your other problem, try taking a bath and then you'll know.

Don't even cannon to 70, get HP exp too. HP levels are valuable, and you can get Black chaps and vambs for better defence. So yeah, get ranged.

You already have Defence, so just go for a tank. You can use the combat calc to see how many attack/strength levels you can get without gaining a combat level, to make training defence easier.

Depends on how lucky you are with the yews. If the yews are crowded, which they are sometimes, yews are worse. If you have a group to yourself, they may be better, I dunno.

Sounds like a good idea. :D Also, kinda random tip, if you get frozen/bound, you can still go up and down stairs, so if you're trapped in the base next to the stairs, keep going up and down them until you're unfrozen. Works quite well for those ancients that try to freeze the first thing that comes up.
