  1. Amazing! Congrats on the lvl and sorry that I missed it. :wall: I know what it's like trying to coordinate a half dozen people to all be on at the same time and it isn't easy. Now get on some mining. :P Btw, I hope you don't mind but I edited the image tags on your pic for 96 herb so it would show up. *goes back to working on project* :-w
  2. Nice! Glad to see you managed to get all those wines. Hope you don't have too much fun mixing all those up. Too bad I can't spam bomb you though. :P
  3. This one wasn't about you at all. This was based off many different posts made by many different people. The best thing anyone can do is send in a report on a topic whether it be wrong forum, spam, etc. If it's already been reported you get that nifty X on the icon so only one report gets sent in. The problem becomes when people bypass this just to be the 6th person to state "wrong forum." In reality even the first reply saying that is spam, the rest only compound it. If you report it, let it be. That alone would help make post counts a little more meaningful if they weren't chocked full of spammy padding. Remember the old proverb: Two spams don't make a right. :-k Err yeah that's it. Not meant toward you really, more of a "everyone play nice" kinda thing because frankly a lack of name calling and flaming make topics much more enjoyable to me and I'm sure many others. :D As for the time it took to type my last reply. I'll blame most of it on my perfectionistic tendencies when drafting something that a hundred people will likely read. Also I can't get back into my swing when I stop for 15 minutes. :P
  4. Sweet! \ I shall call him Shifty Eyes.
  5. This is actually a good suggestion. I use the ^_^ face a lot on msn. If I can add a request of my own. I use that one all the time and really wish Tip.It had it as an option too. I scavenged it from the depths of msn's "convenient to find" emote folder. Bloodveld, perhaps you could make an original based on it?
  6. Funny story: As I click on post reply and the text box pops up where I write everything I notice there's a report someone sent in. I go to see what it is...lo and behold our good friend spam. I just locked a thread on general that wasn't the most clear in the world but there were users who were trying to help. However, after the first 2 replies the rest were nothing more than spam until the one right before I locked it and not all these people had would I would consider low counts (sub 100). This is exactly the point I was trying to make previously and one that Albosky mentioned. The amount of spam is truly staggering. For those of you who stay mainly on one or two boards you don't see it too much but if you go through most boards as mods do you'd see how much there really is. That's just the stuff that doesn't get removed right away. Good point but I highly doubt you would end up looking at the post count of so many people or need to. I imagine you have quite a discerning taste when it comes to judging whether a post has merit or not without resorting to a number that shows how many times they've posted before. The reason I mention this is that it eludes to a scenario where given two people posting the same borderline topic/post, one would overlook the spammy nature of the higher post count person while looking at the lower post count person's post as pure spam with no redeeming values. Albosky's comment about the forums being quicker is an excellent point. If any of you browse forums extensively as Bloodveld does then you know how aggravating they can be on a slow day. Now imagine viewing that many posts.....then add about 3-6 clicks extra per spammy/rule breaking one you find to clean it up. The amount of time spent waiting on a slow forum grows tremendously. That to me is reason enough to remove what Albosky mentioned to speed things up. That's somewhat of the problem. Most of our high ranked posters seem to frequent Gen P2P, or so it seems to me. If you spend much time on General or Off Topic among others you'd see how much spam happens. The amount of posts that are in that gray area of being spam/bad post is even more. One more thing before I stop. I honestly wouldn't have a problem with post counts if people would stop replying to spam. I'd love to know the percent of some people's post count that is from posting on topics just to say "wrong forum", "spam" or "what's the point?". If it troubles you badly enough to take the time to reply then the same amount of effort could be spent sending in a report on it and not replying when you submit one. Forgive the choppy nature of this post. I would have posted this an hour ago but I kept having to stop to deal with spam posts, go figure. :P Also as a general comment: while I enjoy a good debate, attacking a person instead of their argument is a cheap shot. If a position is really that faulty then it should be easy enough to pick it apart on its own without calling the poster's intelligence or personal qualities into question. Disclaimer: As with the last few posts these are entirely my opinions and in no way reflect the opinions of Tip.It.
  7. That is quite a bit of an undertaking you've done. Unfortunately this isn't the proper forum for it. I would move the post myself to the appropriate thread but don't the ability in that forum. As such I'm locking this but please feel free to repost this in the following link where it belongs and can be of use. Atlas: World & Wild
  8. Thanks everyone. To fatman: I made somewhere around 20k coifs over time. Mind numbing but it was the way I did it without tons of cash for dhides. To jimbob: I don't kill many things due to wanting to stay lvl 89. I banked all the unids I got since I became a member and used them when I was able. I bought around 2200 ranarr a few months back and that got me to around lvl 70 then I used up the unids I had banked for over a year. The last 4 lvls have been completely from farming. :D I don't expect many lvl updates from me for a few days or however long it will be. Temporary rs burn out plus I don't want to get started on my next mini-project. I have 89 firemaking banked and I need to get the logs used up but don't have the motivation at the moment. Hopefully I'll get the firebug again and get on it.
  9. Nice work as always. \ I never realized herb took that much gp to lvl to 99. That makes my ~22M calculation for 99 crafting seem wonderful by comparison.
  10. I'm really surprised by how many people will even bother posting if they haven't at least read the vast majority of a topic, barring those that go upwards of 30 pages where the first few and the last few or so should suffice. Without reading through you're more likely to post something that's been said 6 times prior. How is that contributing something meaningful to the topic? Moreover I've seen more than one thread go down in flames because someone replied to the title without actually reading the topic and got mad that they looked foolish.
  11. It's true that not every high post counter is a good member, but not every low post counter is bad either. Saying that all high post counters are these wonderful people is just as bad as saying each low post counter is some low down dirty swine. In every community there are some bad eggs, and tif is certainly one of them. Certainly you understand this. (Also, I ment no offence by the "You obviously haven't contributed as much to this forum as a 2k post counter has." comment. 'Just trying to prove a point) I'll agree there are both kinds in both groups, which is my main reason for not seeing the full practicality of the counts. I look at them more with mild interest than as a deciding factor. Either way for me a judgement call of the post's merit always is taken first before I look at the count. I'm not saying it isn't handy but I'd prefer to use my own judgement. This could just be a difference in how two people go about things as opposed to the absolute use the count. As for the comment regarding my own count, no offense taken. I would suggest adding a mod that prevents posts from being posted if they have less characters then a preset amount, but there is two main problems with this: 1) Spammers will simply make their spam longer. and 2) There are times when just 3 or 4 words is enough to completely shift the favor of an argument. I would be willing to compromise and add this mod if post count were to remain, though. I'll try and refrain from much discussion about mods to the forums since I'm personally not that knowledgeable about them and also because it won't be me that would end up having to do the work on them. While it wasn't my intent to propose a word minimum with that comment I agree it wouldn't do much other than to encourage longer spam. I would be curious of the logistics of having locked threads not count toward the post count. (Yes this topic does lend itself to grammatical nightmares. :wall: ) The replies to poorly written rants telling them they're poorly written as well as people posting that someone spammed or posted in the wrong forum add greatly to the post count of some. Locked threads not counting would remove part of this. Like I said, there will always be bad eggs, but usually a higher post count can show some level of trustworthiness. What everyone is forgetting about high post counters is that everyone of their posts is logged. The higher your post count is, the more of your personality is shown to the general public. If someone with 2k posts posts a link, by then people will usually have a sense of this person's character, and his trustworthiness, hense have a good idea if the link is safe or not. I like that comment, it was well said. This is the manner I use to determine my opinion on someone by looking through past posts to see how they write etc. I hadn't really thought of one being indicative of the other, but then again I just prefer to go straight to the old posts. I wouldn't even attempt to argue that this poll is truly representative of all Tip.It users. Besides it could be argued it's like the updates on RS. You only ever hear how bad people hate them because the ones that like them keep quiet. I could say only the people who would be mad that the counts were taken down would vote here while those that are merely ambivalent wouldn't bother. Impossible to know either way though. :P I'll stick to not using the poll as concrete evidence. OMG SPAM!! :P I'm pleased to have a decent and more importantly civil discussion about something that doesn't devolve into "shut up you stupid noob". They do take time to draft however, I'm sure thats why people seldom seem to write them. #-o I didn't go through this post with a fine-toothed comb since I'm in hurry. Overlook any glaring errors. Btw, good eye on the Zim thing. Somewhat of a give away with the avatar and what not though. Not sure I care for Zim-boy however. :-k
  12. First off thank you Bloodveld for a well written post that gives a well formed avenue for debate. It's the quality of post that we should indeed expect and see more of from someone with a rather large post count. (That wasn't meant with sarcasm.) It'd be nice to think that the quality of one's posts increases as time passes and post count grows but I haven't found that to be the case for everyone. Sure people who have a larger post count than I have contributed more but I would question the quality. This isn't to say I write great awe inspiring posts but more to say that contributing more isn't the same as contributing well. I've noticed there's more than one person with a substantial post count who goes through the forums and adds to each and every topic it seems. And after reading through the posts I can't see how it was that much of a contribution, not to say they are doing it for post count but trying to say that the count equals quality is a bit of a stretch to me. Often I'll see a post by someone with a large post count who I've never seen in the boards I frequent. Even then this isn't a reason to assume anything about this poster. If I'm really curious I'll go take a look through their posts they've written to get a feel for what they tend to write. This is far more indicative than any number will be. I couldn't agree more. There will always be spam but the fact that there's a reward for it will inspire some. The blatant spammers are taken care of soon enough and don't last. It's the ones who contribute the minimum that this might affect. Needless to say it would be an interesting little social experiment to run and see the results on spamminess in general. I'm not saying it would eliminate it, nor would I imagine most others would either. I wish more people followed your example. This is the very reason why some boards don't count toward your post total. Simple three word responses shouldn't be considered a substantive post. If someone feels the need to respond it should at least be with a complete thought out reply. I'll grant you that it's more probable that the one with the higher post count wouldn't post something of that nature. However since we are dealing with people via the internet even the amount of time you have "known" someone doesn't mean much sometimes. My point was more to use common sense and don't let a count number make you assume something about someone. That's the crux of all this I think, people assuming things based on a number. I don't really care to delve back into the issue of the poll being valid as it's a moot point now. Debating it ad nauseam doesn't really help because it's not likely to be change whereas focusing on debating the post count is productive since it's currently being considered. I've read quite a few posts stating the reasons they would want the count removed but I can't recall any with good reasons to keep it. This isn't to say they're not there but that sifting through this many pages of posts makes the brain hazy. So why do the people who have high post counts, yet don't seem to care about them want them to appear by their name? If it's not about the "prestige" but rather that it can be used to inform the general user about a poster's contribution then why couldn't this be accomplished through the user profile. The information is still available if it's needed for a judgement call on the author but out of the way so it's not something seen solely for reputation. As a side note I found it funny that after Bloodveld's post we had a string of fairly off topic posts that didn't contribute to the topic at hand. Not all of those were written by people with post counts under 100 either. Not really a debating point, just a humorous observation. :)
  13. Wow, I sifted through 12 pages over a poll on post counts. :-s I'll preface my statements the same as Pokemama did. What I'm about to say is entirely my own opinion. I'm really shocked at how argumentative people can be on a topic regarding post counts. I think if people thought about it they'd realize how invalid post counts are when measuring a user's worth. I mean sure they're fun to look at but that's not really a reason to keep them if they could potentially reduce spam. I don't think people realize the amount of spam that gets posted everyday (I know I sure didn't a week ago). Some people's spam is blatant and obviously off topic whereas others barely qualify as meaningful to the conversation as Pokemama pointed out. Someone previously in this thread mentioned that people are likely to spam because of the post count so they get their number up and don't appear new to others. I know I was hesitant to post at first even after lurking for months for this very reason. People too easily dismiss others due to this number. A low post count doesn't show how long someone has been here. I myself registered back in November but never posted anything until around May because I never saw anything I thought I could add something constructive to. And while my post count is relatively low compared to others I can say that some of them have perfected the art of replying with comments I would barely call proper posts. Some are "+1's" others just an emote but some are just random replies that don't contribute anything. I believe in quality over quantity and the post count doesn't show this at all. I've seen more constructive posts in Rate This (which doesn't go toward post count due to the short nature of rating posts) than some of the ones I've seen on the general boards which add to your count. Someone mentioned it helped them know how they should perceive a post containing a link etc by the user's post count and their forum status in general. Most scams and the like I don't even have to bother looking at the post count or the join date to see what they are. The same goes for strange links, you shouldn't make judgements on something like a number under someone's name. The argument that this vote is invalid is ridiculous. It serves it purpose to help make a decision regarding them. I doubt it was meant to be scrutinized in the manner that it has. It's just a poll about a forum feature, not a national election. Some perspective here maybe. :-k Personally I voted for them to be put in the profile. This would allow those who care to be able to see it while making it one extra click most won't care to make. My two cents. P.S. Although I'm sure there are MODs that could be implemented take care of the deleted posts affecting it, that just creates more work for someone like Albosky. It's always easy to say something is simple when it's someone else that ends up doing the work.
  14. The only part of this that is annoying to me is that it took over a year to fix this bug. I find this to be a little after the fact and wonder why it became so important to change now.
  15. Seeing as how this thread has sufficiently gone down in flames it will be locked. All those who posted in this thread without something constructive to say either for or against it should take this opportunity to review the Guidelines for Discussion & Suggestions.
  16. I have to agree with Jorus. Skiller is a general term with lvl 3's being the type most people think of when someone says skiller. I'd have to say that anyone whose noncombats make up a significant portion of their total lvl qualifies as a skiller. While this is just an arbitrary number on my part I tend to view someone as a skiller if ~23% or less of their total xp is in combat stats. And congrats on the agility lvl Jorus. \
  17. Awesome Swamp, 85 farming is crazy. I'm with Jorus about pickpocketing you for seeds now.
  18. Discussion of third party clients is not allowed as per forum rules. Edit: Reopened as it's not something downloadable.
  19. Just had chat off, which is the only way I could manage getting 3 lvls. Sneaky ninja lvling.
  20. I could have sworn it was you talking too much. :P Grats again on the agility lvling and nice bank. I always wondered what that many unided dwarf weeds looked like. :-k
  21. Yesterday was a weird day. I managed three lvls in one day. The Con lvl was from Tear of Guth and lamps alone. Free lvls. \ Tons of seeds from Misc. lately. I just wish banana tree seeds didn't each need 4 baskets of apples as payment. :wall:
  22. I wouldn't say it qualified for a rating or as an achievement so much as it belongs here.
  23. Are you entirely sure about the south Fally shortcut? I know the west crumbled wall gives 0.5xp per time. I haven't checked the southern one but I would assume it to have the same meager xp which isn't very noticeable.
  24. This idea could be a huge imbalance to the game if it were implemented carelessly. It would almost require a cool down period like charge. :-k With enough wait time between casts it wouldn't be effiecient for unnoting ess and the like.
  25. You finally made a thread here, excellent! \ I'm really curious to see how you go about your leveling and the progress you can make. I must say 99 herb is an insane goal. But considering your current lvl I don't think it's too crazy. :P I'm surprised I didn't see this thread earlier today, I would have spammed it up sooner had I known. Best of luck on your goal and remember to take lots of screenies and such to show what you've been up to. Have fun at the Agility Course. (Btw which world do you train on? )
