1) INTRODUCTION [hide=]Welcome to my thread. As I have been training my smithing skill I have been more and more unhappy with what I can unlock as I level up the skill. Today I acheived 93 smithing and I unlocked rune square shields. I was not at all happy with this. Rune is a free to play, medium level armour and does not deserve to have such a high smithing requirment this day and age. This thread will serve to fix the smithing skill, making it more profitable, fun and useful. 90%of this thread is courtesy of Lhikata so I would like to fully aknowledge you fully. Yes, in this section Im going to try and persuade you beyond doubt that Smithing Needs a HUGE update!, by all means possible Smithing falls below the other skills! Yes, it does fall below the other skills by a great amount, for example fletching makes smithing look weak in that you can make runite crossbow limbs at 91 smithing, yet make the entire crossbow with only 69 fletching! Not only that but the bolts are made with 88 smithing and 69 fletching! I see this as greatly unfair and belittling smithing! Now what of crafting? How does that compare, well I will show you, after dragon slayer you can wear the rune platebody and its ranged equivalent , the green dragonhide body, now Ive already stated these to be equal, but one takes a fair 63 crafting, AND THE OTHER TAKES 99 SMITHING! As if this wasnt absolutely ridiculous enough, at 84 crafting you can make what is possibly the greatest ranged armour in the entire game! While with a gargantuan more experience in smithing, you can still only make medium level armour! THIS IS SIMPLY WRONG! And what about construction, maybe it is fair on smithing, oh no far from it-in order to put rune armour in your player owned house, you only need 28 construction, and 99 SMITHING! The list goes FAR on, these are just some examples Other skills are in perfect harmony with each other! As onyx gems can be crafted and enchanted at very similar levels, fish is caught and cooked at really similar levels also, and woos cut burned and fletched into bows likewise, Why Should Smithing Suffer!?[/hide] 2) REVISED SMITHING TABLE [hide=]The fact that is requires 48 smithing to make stuff you can wear at level 5 makes no sense to me. Smithing sohuld be closer to what you can use at your correspondant combat level. Most players with 99smithing have 40 defence for example. This new table completely changes the way smithing works, instead of all different items at different levels, items are smithable in groups, so maces, daggers and axes are smithable at the same level, if you get me Set 1-Axes, daggers, maces, short swords, medium helmets, nails, arrowtips, chain boots*, round shields*, Chain Belts*, Chain Gloves* Set 2-Warhammers, longswords, dart tips, bolts, full helmet, chainbodyand knives, scimitars, chainlegs/skirts*, square shields, spears, hastaes, Plate Belts*, Light Gaunlets*,cannonballs,Limbs Set 3-Battleaxes, two-handed swords, two-handed axes*, platelegs/skirt, claws, platebodies, kite shields, [bleep]ed shields, Great Helms,Heavy Gaunlets * Currently not smithable/nonexistent Smithing lvl 1------bronze set 1 Smithing lvl 3------bronze set 2 Smithing lvl 5------bronze set 3 Smithing lvl 6------iron set 1 Smithing lvl 7------iron sheets Smithing lvl 10-----iron set 2 Smithing lvl 14-----iron set 3 Smithing lvl 18----steel set 1 Smithing lvl 20-----elemental shield Smithing lvl 22----steel set 2 Smithing lvl 26----steel set 3 Smithing lvl 30----mithril set 1 Smithing lvl 34----mithril set 2 Smithing lvl 38----mithril set 3 Smithing lvl 42----adamant set 1 Smithing lvl 46----adamant set 2 Smithing lvl 50----adamant set 3,golden helm, golden bowl Smithing lvl 54----rune set 1 Smithing lvl 58----rune set 2 Smithing lvl 60----join Dragon Shield Halfs together Smithing lvl 62----rune set 3 Smithing lvl 66----Zeotine set 1 Smithing lvl 70----Zeotine set 2 Smithing lvl 74----Zeotine set 3 Smithing lvl 75----join Godsword Blade and join DFS Smithing lvl 78----carnite set 1 Smithing lvl 82----carnite set 2 Smithing lvl 85----repair barrows armour for free Smithing lvl 86----carnite set 3 Smithing lvl 90----teronodite set 1 Smithing lvl 95----teronodite set 2 Smithing lvl 99----teronodite set 3[/hide] 3) THE NEW ORES [hide=]NEW ORES Carnite, Zeotine and Teronodite, my names for the new metals that are going to bring back the power, point and pride of smithing, letting us make some of the best weaponry and armour in the game, so the best stuff shall be player made once again, of course these metals shall also affect the mining table, and the rocks would have to be extremely hard to get, especially teronodite-the most powerful of the three As if to balance, the current rarity of high level rocks like runite, would have to be made more common, Id expect to even find a runite rock or three in the lumbridge mine Zeotine A grey-purplein colour(similar to ancient staff headpice colour), zeotine is the weakest new armour zeotine takes 55 attack/defense to use It is a step above rune and granite, and a step below dragon Requires 68 mining to mine the ore The ore is slightly rarer than current adamantite A zeot bar is one part zeotine and 10 parts coal Fully tradable From smithing treasure trails and monster drops Carnite Yellowish orange in colour and very strong You need 65 attack/defense to use carn It is noticibly better than zeot and dragon, but weaker than 3rd age and barrows Requires 78 mining to mine the ore The ore is rarer than the current runite A carnite bar it 1 part carnite and 12 parts rubium Fully tradable Only from smithing and maybe treasure trails/high level monster drops Teronodite Crimson, very cool and the strongest of all the metals To use teronodite you need 80 attack/defense Teronodite is the best there is, better than 3rd age barrows and bandos Requires 88 mining to mine it The few rocks are found in a secret location, may require extremely hard quest A terone bar is 1 part teronodite and 27 parts rubium Tradable-not in grand exchange and wears down like gauntlets requiring an extra bar and smithing level respective to the piece in need of repair Only from smithing ? Rumour has it there is an even stronger metal. This metal is a combination of two ore. The first ore is found behind the mithril door. The sister ore is found within the inner most sanctum of the godwars dungeon. It has been said that not even coal or rubium is enough to heat these powerful ores together. Requires 95 minning to mine. Requires 95 attack/defence to weild[/hide] 4) BOB AND ITEM REPAIRING [hide=]1) Players currently have two options of repairing their barrows armours. They can either take it to bob or repair it at their POH. The fact that it requires 99smithing for a measly 50% reduction in the cost of repairing barrows armours is underpowered in my opinion. a(as i stated, my opinion). I think we should only need 85 smithing to fully repair barrows armour. However kharils and Ahrims should also require 85 crafting to repair as they are made of a cloth/hide (i think) 2)Again with that dumb old bob! Let us repair our own hatchets and pickaxes, at the accociated level of course. 3)Broken arrows should also be able to go up to rune not just mith if you are to repait them 4) Bob will teach you how to repair axes and picks if you have completed all the Lumbridge acheivments[/hide] 5) OTHER NEW ABILITIES FOR SMITHS [hide=] With a whetstone players now will have the ability to "sharpen" weapons, adding temporary damage boost. Sharpening lasts for 2 hours of combat, then It will degrade to its normal state. Crush items eg warhammers are unable to be sharpened. Here is a sharpening table: 9smithing: sharpening adds 1 to damage bonus of weapon 19smithing: sharpening adds 2 to damage bonus of weapon 29smithing: sharpening adds 3 to damage bonus of weapon 39smithing: sharpening adds 4 to damage bonus of weapon 49smithing: sharpening adds 5 to damage bonus of weapon 59smithing: sharpening adds 6 to damage bonus of weapon 69smithing: sharpening adds 7 to damage bonus of weapon 79smithing: sharpening adds 8 to damage bonus of weapon 89smithing: sharpening adds 9 to damage bonus of weapon 99smithing: sharpening adds 10 to damage bonus of weapon *as you can see, sharpening will make smithing alot more worhwhile. Furthermore you cannot assist others in sharpening, thus this skill solely serves the smither *It is also possible to sharpen harpoons, it requires 20 smithing and give a 2% increase in the chance of getting a swordfish over tuna. (sharpening a harpoon is permanent) *It is also possible to sharpen saws giving a 1+ to the construction skill, it requires 30 smithing *At 90 smithing players are able to sharpen a crystal saw adding an extra +2 cons bonus to the current +3[/hide] 6) PROS AND CONS OF THIS IDEA [hide=]PROS AND CONS The way I see it there are several reasons this is a good thing Pros *smiths of all levels get what they truly deserve *Awesome new Armour! *Makes the skill fairer *adds variety to worn armour *balances out smithing with the other skills *smiths can Finally once again create the best stuff in the game which is currently monster drops Cons *monster drops no longer provide the best stuff I say: there would-and still is tons of great monster drops like bandos/dragon boots, visages godsword shards and the like, besides this con already applies to smithing and I deem smithing a better candidate for the best, and anyway smithing only fills the weapon body head legs and shield slot, and only for melee too, monster drops would still play a part trust me *Price Havoc I say: yes, people WILL complain that prices of rune will fall, yes so what, it may be 'Rune' but actually the armour is weak noob stuff for members and doesnt deserve high prices Prices of dragon items might fall? And 3rd age and barrows? These might fall, maybe not by much though as they are still high in demand and barrows have abilities, it takes a while to get 80 attack from 60 Teronodite and carnite, or at least terone, could be made untradable[/hide] 7) SUPPORTERS LIST [hide=][/hide]
