  1. I see. So, you think I should just toggle the filter to "off" and let those people who hurl derogatory remarks at me go unchallenged? Tell me -- do you think racism is a behavioural or inherited human trait? Just wondering ... This would be a good time to step down and let the thread die. Making a fool of yourself tbh :shame: You're both evading my question: Do you think other people learn racism because they see other people commit racist acts, or are they genetically oriented towards racist acts?
  2. Let me guess -- you're a white male, with no children ... Can't see how me having or not having children has anything to do with this, but alright. But you would be spot on. I might however add that i a South African and soon as people ask me where i am from my aswer is responded to with "OMFG you're AFRICAN?" Yeah it's annoying that people think there are only black people in Africa. But at the end of the day, you are black, i am white, and kids are [bleep]ed up. You really should not be taking things seriously. I can't understand why you would (unless you're shy of who you are). "Mom why did that person just ask you to [perform a sexual act upon him] and call you a [name related to the pigment of your skin]?" Yeah cause ofcourse your children either a) sit on your lat and watch you play Runescape or b) follow you around everywhere you go in Runescape. And now explain to me what my race/gender has to do with anything? I think you're being a rather big hypocrit. Bringing MY race and MY gender into this. OMG this is so class. Haha. Your scope and vision is particularly narrow and self-centered. You think that the world is easily ignored and has no bearing on you or the people around you, except for those aspects that you demand are of importance. You've never had anyone make a comment about your gender, and then follow it up with an aggressive gesture that you found physically threatening. You've never had anyone make a comment about your skin colour, and then follow it up with an aggressive gesture that you found physically threatening. You're without a care in the world or a consideration for another person. You're clearly male, single, young and white.

  4. Sadly -- this is the answer I am most afraid of ... That is not a criticism of you, Bladewing, it is a concession that you're probably right. :(

  6. Bad words can be used legitimately. Why should I turn on a filter which not only blocks "bad" words used in context but also regular dictionary words just because they or a part of it looks/sound like a possible swear? I stand by that the main 4 letter swear should still be blocked. then leave your filter on ain't hard, folks. The question isn't whether or not to leave the filter on/off -- the question is whether or not I should report someone for saying: "[Perform a sexually degrading act on me, you female individual product of inter-racial heritage] ..." <_<

  9. There is no such thing as consent from someone younger than the age of consent. "Yeah, I'm old enough, let's do this," Sorry honey, the government says that its not your decision to make, and the answer is automatically a resounding "NO." What happened to her WAS wrong. A 54 year old man should not be having sex with a CHILD. If you're an adult, children (minors under the age of 18) are off limits. I never said ti wasn't wrong. In fact, I said that at the end. But then again, I'm not one to follow arbitrary age laws as defining who a person was as I believe in the cognitive standards of someone rather than, again, an arbitrary age. By law standards, sure, consent is non existent. But that doesn't mean one cannot make a decision on heir own based Upon their age. So [bleep] your government. You can argue from law, but I will not argue from law because law is just another way of control. I'm simply arguing from a psychological viewpoint here. But I did say the situation was wrong in general. So I don't know where you came off as me saying it wasn't wrong. "I am above the law!!!!" Perhaps you're not saying that it wasn't wrong, but you are trying to apply circumstances that are aimed at either (1) trolling or (2) legitimately attempting to mitigate the responsibility of the actions of the one ADULT involved in this situation. This man conducted a despicable act against a minor. There is nothing that can mitigate that fact. Nothing. I don't know how old you are -- and I don't care. I don't want to discuss your age here. That said, your response is typical of the "younger person" who thinks that they are mature enough to make certain decisions for themselves, so therefore they should be allowed to make such decisions. The reality is that most (if not all) people under the "age of consent" are not capable of competent management of themselves, despite the fact that they may believe themselves otherwise capable. Meanwhile, there is an adult involved here who has committed a heinous crime against a child. He alone is responsible for this crime. He alone committed it. He alone. Meanwhile, your attempts to purport that your own "maturity" is some form of guideline through which one should determine the degree of responsibility that the minor involved in this situation should share in this incident is ridiculous.
  10. Considering that the new "Profanity" filter is going into effect today, I'd appreciate some comments from those of you here, in particular but not limited to those of you who are currently moderators, as to what course of action I should take with respect to the situations that will arise now that Jagex has removed the only filter that some players ever had. As a woman, and in particular a woman of colour, I tend to draw certain unwanted comments aimed at me which are directed at both my gender and my race. Prior to the invention of this new filter – certain individuals (who are now and shall remain on my ignore list) have always managed to find ways to circumvent the filter and make sexist, sexually degrading and racially oriented remarks towards me. Yes, I realize that *that* is what the "filter" and the "ignore" button are all about. <.< Nonetheless, this new "Profanity" filter is going to very likely open an entirely new "can of worms". If I toggle the Profanity filter off, I suspect that the filter will"star out" the likely racially derogatory and sexist remarks which could possibly be aimed at me. If I toggle the filter on, then the sexist, sexually degrading and racist remarks will likely "show up" in the chat. Question: Should I even bother to report it?
  11. I won't even go into how much this story disgusts me. I won't go into how much it disgusts me that some individuals appear to want to "blame the parents" or "blame the child" because some pedophile managed to manipulate the circumstances and gain access to a child. That's sick. Plain and simple. To blame the victims is sick. End of debate. What I find truly disturbing is that the charges levied against this sicko carry penalties of 4-20 years. What I find even MORE disturbing is that it's more likely he will get the minimum penalty, and will likely be released on parole in 18-24 months. Had he robbed a bank and taken money, they'd put him away for 10+ years – but since it's only a child, he'll get practically nothing. Just goes to show you what our society truly values. I am a tough mom. I believe in tough love. But I am also a very protective and very careful mother. When it comes to Internet and strangers, I have only one rule, and it comes down to this: NO PERSONAL INFORMATION. Period. No real names. No locations. No ages. Nothing. Nada. No way. No how. I run my own clan chat the same way. No real names. No exchange of personal information of any kind whatsoever. You have no idea who's listening out there. On topic +1: While we're on this subject, I'd like to note that, today, I found a trailer for a new upcoming film called "Trust". Interestingly, according to Wikipedia, the film, was made in Michigan ...
  12. "Jump the Shark" has been an idiom since 1977 ... Ring-a-ding-ding, baby. Austin Powers purportedly comes from the 1960's. Learn your decades, kid.
  13. Yes but quite often the over zelous filter catches many legitamate words. I like the idea of an on/off filter but there is no reason why the 's', 'f' and 'c' words shouldn't still be filtered. These have no genuine use in-game. For some reason, George Carlin's "7 words you cannot say on television" comes to mind ...

  15. Jagex, in their desire to attract investment has, quite possibly, pushed their limits as to what they can and cannot achieve in the future. Obviously this was a planned effort and it was planned for the purposes of attracting much-needed funding for "future development". Thing is who's going to have the say-so as to what those "future developments" are? Jagex's current management or the non-gaming bean counters who want maximum return on their investment? Will there be more updates? Sure. But can they now push the limit of what they can do in the future? Or will they be held back? I don't know. My question is, is it downhill from here?
  16. Defintion:- "Jumping the Shark" is an idiom used to denote when a particular production effort has surpassed its relevance and reached a point of decline in quality from which it is incapable of recovering ... "It's a moment a defining moment when you know that your favourite [insert media format here] has reached its peak. That instant that you know, from now on, it's all downhill. Some call it the "climax". We call it 'Jumping the Shark.' From that moment on, the program will simply never be the same." In light of the recent developments in Runescape, in particular now that it appears that the whole referendum and the subsequent vote to "Bring Back the Wilderness and Free Trade", appears to have been little more than a stunt aimed at drawing in erstwhile investors to pony up cash for Jagex, does it now appear to anyone else that Runescape has "Jumped the Shark"?
  17. I'd just like to say that "I called it" ...
  18. I vote we petition Jagex to bring back the dangerous randoms ...
  19. Cheatscape? Scamscape? Douchescape?
  20. Simply banning the offending account solves this dilemma. I think a total wipeout (no pun intended) would be better. Remove all exp (except HP which would go to 10), all completed quests and all the items on the account. 1. Person won't need to create new account. 2. Jagex can keep an eye on an account that has been charged with botting before. 3. Removing everything would leave the player with pretty much the same stuff as if the account was just made. I'd support that.

  22. Did you manage to earn this in less than 30 minutes? If not, then you're wasting your time.
