Guguere stinks - agreed. Gustavvson is unreliable - also agreed, but he's still young. He's a great prospect goalie. At very least, he's going to be much more then conklin. Reimer - playing great, at least a great backup in the future(as good as conklin). Jussi Rynass - doing very well in the marlies, good prospect. Ben Scrivens - also doing very well in the marlies and echl. The only goalie the leafs would possibly be interested in is a first rate starter (likes of bryzgalov). They have absolutely no need of another backup. They also aren't anywhere near last place, and BB has already said he's not interested in JUST making the playoffs this year. Personally, I think Toronto going after a #1 goalie is a better idea -- there's a lot of available tenders out there. This could be the year to land a good one for cheap. As for their current stable of goalies: - Jiggy's got a fork in him, he's done. Time to pack it up and retire. - Gustavvson is not NHL quality and never will be. He LITERALLY hasn't got the heart for it. Burke made a mistake with this one. It's time to cut it loose. - Reimer is the equivalent of Michael Leighton. He's going to put in some good games for now, but he won't last long-term. He may work out as a backup at best. - Jussi Rynass is a good prospect. I agree -- but he's not a #1 tender. - Ben Scrivens - not a #1 tender.

Hmm - they said the smithing update would follow closely behind today's EMIV -- I wonder if it will be a double-update week?

We're going to agree to disagree. Herblore is entirely trainable for lower levels. You can buy low level herb seeds for next to nothing and make scads of herbs to achieve the base levels. Many monsters -- particularly slayer monsters -- drop plenty of herbs and related herblore gear and seconds. You can farm higher level herbs. You can quest and use your kingdom for more herbs. Updating herblore actually made FARMING a valuable and otherwise useful skill. It also broadened the appeal of other skills such as slayer. This is EXACTLY what they need to do with smithing. There is no content, in terms of usability, for smithing armour or weapons for any combat skill over 40. Period. 99 smithing nets you nothing of any use whatsoever in terms of usable product. The point of getting 90+ in a skill is to have the high level content to make it worthwhile. High level content isn't a slightly less grind -- it's an end product that's of use to players. Besides, if they were going to make this update "epic" in any way whatsoever, they wouldn't be sneaking it through, amidst an otherwise action-packed month. They'd be crowing about it.

Honestly? Then why even HAVE a smithing update if you're not going to provide USEFUL content for producing material with a user-requirement of over level 30-40? Why raise a skill to 99 just to make junk that no one in P2P even uses anymore -- to give use even more crap that no one's going to use? Ceremonial (rune) swords? Really? That's the best we can hope for? Are you telling us that the management at Jagex doesn't know this? Are you telling us that, when Jagex said they were going to update/upgrade/revamp smithing, that they put their heads together and said: Mod in charge: "We're going to revamp/upgrade/update smithing by creating a Workshop that will basically allow the players to get more XP per bar creating useless items that no one will use our want in P2P ..." Other Mods: "oooh! ahhh! Brilliant! Super! Oooh yeah, baby!" Mod in charge: "This is exactly what the players want, yep yep yep! My morning milk comes from cats ..." Other Mods: "oooh! ahhh! Brilliant! Super! Oooh yeah, baby!" Really? And you know these items will be useless how? You know it will produce nothing useful how? Please also show me where Jagex have stated this update will be more than just an update. The herblore update came as a high level herblore update, this has never been called a high level smithing update as far as I can see. Players may have thought that's what it will be but Jagex may never have intended it to be. This is exactly the reason Jagex removed the BTS and turned away any questions about any future content. Players have a hard time realising that not every update will revolutionise Runescape for the limited ultra high levels Dan, I like you -- I really do. And what is more, I respect you. But I think you're missing the point that smithing needs a MAJOR OVERHAUL and this stop-gap measure from Jagex is NOT doing that. Somewhere, someone in Jagex totally FUBARed the idea. In a game where we're able to manufacture high-level (albeit non-tradable) content for skills like herblore, don't you think it's time that Jagex got their finger out and did the same thing for smithing? No?

A fair point to be sure ... Still -- one question remains -- how dense does one have to be to become a game developer at Jagex? <_<

Yes -- but "more" experience doesn't necessarily mean "faster" experience. <_< One has to wonder if this isn't just another one of those "which is closer to the bank" kind of situations ...

Personally got 99 smithing b/c I enjoyed the skill, it wasn't until ~8 months after I got it that I heard about a possible smithing update. And when I heard that I thought it'd be something along the lines of extremes/overloads are to herblore. Not like the lumberyard is to woodcutting. Does anyone even use the lumberyard?

How DARE you infer that Jagex would mess something up!!! *snort* I knew I couldn't say that with a straight face. So, THIS is our long-awaited Smithing update? Really? No. Really? With all the probabilities, the possibilities and the opportunities they had, THIS is the best they could come up with? *facepalm*

Beware! 'Jagex' scam email!
Oh, for sure, I know that information on a fan-site isn't private. That said, I'd also say that it's not beyond the point of contention that Jagex may have sold off a packet of information to some third party spammer, either ...

Beware! 'Jagex' scam email!
Well - except for two things: First of all, I got this email too; and Secondly, my email address given to Tip-It ISN'T the email address where I received this email. :P P.S. -- I am waiting for the "Congrats! You're a PMod" email. THAT one should be next.

The ultimate bot horizon theory? Sorry...what exactly would that be? lol At the present time, there are so many bots in the game, and Jagex is doing nothing about it. Which means that, eventually the number of bots is only going to increase. Based on that assumption, you can extrapolate that, eventually there will be so many bots in game that to actually acquire any resource goods within the game, you will need to either operate you own bot or, buy from a bot. Bots cause an influx of materials. Materials drop in value due to their overwhelming supply. Eventually, it becomes of now purpose to acquire you own materials because they're worthless. So you assign a bot to do it. Those skills requiring that you cannot "buy" materials for -- you simply get a bot to do them for you. The end result is that the only way to play the game, besides possibly boss killing, is to operate a bot. As such, the game becomes so over-populated with bot that there are no real people playing anymore ...

Urn Question
If it so much as has one bit of charge, it counts towards that 10. To get an *ssload of xp in 1 minute. You know, save them up, and get like 5 levels inn 5 minutes. You can only have 10 filled at a time. Even with a Decorated fishing urn, that's only 19k xp, that's not really that much. True, but it would be a reason to have 1k stocked if it were possible, which is whot the guy I replied to asked. Anyways, when fishing monks I get 1900xp per urn. It's a nice booster for little to no cost. The inventory space loss is minor (3 fish per urn). What are you fishing to get 19k per urn? Don't get me wrong, it's a nice boost if you have them, but I was just making sure your post didn't get misconstrued to thinking you can actually get a lot of xp at once. And as stated, 10 urns = 19k xp. ... and unless you're dropping ores as you mine them, it's going to take a while to fill one urn at a time. Each addy ore only fills your urn by 3% ...

Which does what, exactly? Puts a weak Toronto team into the the playoffs. Yay! That's no better than the Harold Ballard days. Really. This has been the problem with Leaf teams every year since 1967. The fans don't care how good the team is, just so long as it makes the playoffs -- they will continue to buy tickets. <_< Toronto fans have got to stop this "we can make the playoffs this year" [cabbage], and start looking for a team that is serious about re-building into a cup contender. To do that, they need draft picks and lots of them. Toronto is rebuilding. That's why they're trading away all of their old players for prospects and draft picks. Just because we're rebuilding doesn't mean we can't hope for some reward. I don't understand this "must have high draft picks" attitude. It's worked for the penguins and that's about it. There are a ton of other teams who've gone that route with nothing to show for it (or no cup, at least0. Ottawa (way back), NYI, STL, LAK, COL...the list goes on and on. Let's see -- cup winners built on draft picks: Detroit, New Jersey, Pittsburgh, Chicago ... Teams that have at LEAST made a cup final, using draft picks: Ottawa, Philadelphia ... Expect to see Edmonton in the Cup run within 3-4 years, depending on how reliable their goaltending becomes. The Islanders are a long-lost cause -- the second most poorly managed team after Toronto. Los Angeles is up and coming -- so is Colorado. Expect both of them to contend this year, and if not this year, then soon. St. Louis is about as far away as contending as Edmonton. 'Nuff said!
