May as well explain why that character concept is broken: Rules broken: As previously mentioned you cannot use multiple magic items in a slot at once (Advanced item Slot rules are really crazy and are something to avoid) The Hand of the Mage does not allow for reloading weapons (unless the ability to perform a complicated action is mentioned, the spell does not allow the action to be performed. For example Fireball does not allow you to forge metal despite the fact that you could in theory do so. examples: Telekinesis and Unseen servant, having similar effects to Mage Hand, Specifically allow special actions to be taken. common sense rule Broken: A continous Item featuring Reduce person subverts Limiting factors within the spell's effect, taking on features Reminiscient of Shapechange in the form of being able to modify the status of the ability as a move action (I would ballpark the net Spell effect as a 4th-5th level spell, not a 1st level spell.). Note how the comparable Ring of invisibility Maintains the Drawback of ending the spell when making the attack, and requires a standard action to reactivate the ability, when a continous Reduce person allows switching the change in Size as a move action bypassing the limiting factor of having a fixed spell length to prevent swapping sizes when convient. Playablility Broken: The damage dealt by the Weapon is Abysmal for the price: 1d4+1d10 for 100GP per shot. and you do not gain sneak attacks after the first shot The Reloading Strategy INCREASES the reload time from 1 full round to 3 full rounds(technically its actually impossible to ever finish reloading as the spell Mage hand takes a standard action every round before providing any effect) per gun if the spell was even legal. Natural Reach 0: Cannot perform Attacks of opportunity unless sharing squares, unable to flank, must enter opponent's square to attack(generally resulting in an attack of opportunity)

Yeah... Rather than go overboard on an itemized list, I will just give you the Gist of my Analysis of the character: It is Horribly Broken in multiple definitions of the Term, none of them being the 'good' definition. In one sense The character is broken in terms of the rules as several portions of the character break the game rules, and in the other sense the Character is completely unplayable in a practical sense, even in optimal circumstances.

Ah, yes. May as well give my opinion on the Poll options: Jump space collapsing: would make things interesting, though we would be hard pressed to win any sizeable battle, due to the recurring theft of anything that can fly which is really getting annoying, baring a Deus Ex Machina. Expedition to Astare III: couldn't really hurt things Unity: would create an interesting time, especially if some of the more interesting members of the old Crew were aboard, however people would probably get annoyied due to their characters being misplayed (As in not Agreeing with them at all times and handing over all resources) Exams: Yeah, this is most certainly NOT the issue, as a large portion of the problem is everyone going independant and pulling stunts like stealing the fleet vessels and blowing them up for raw materials when it just annoys everyone else in the game No Story: Space is not really the type of game that cannot exist without a Story, as the Freeform nature denies Gaming gameplay Players more involved: Certainly, however there is an issue with Sharing the spotlight to a certain degree I have a Better idea: (I already mentioned this once previously) Have a previously unknown Advanced race of {Aliens, Robots, Time travelers, Other dimensional Beings} warp in using their ship with {Hyperwarp drives, Time Drives, Cross dimensional transporters} and establish a settlement in the system with an unknown intent(Test crew for the advanced warp tech which broke down, Military recon mission set to establish a base of operations, searching for a mysterious item/person/location, establishing Trading outpost, bringing enlightment, peacekeeping force to stop our Barbaric wars, Privateers, Pirates on the run from the law, etc). Roughly the effect this would have is destabilizing the Current state of Affairs in the system (Kalinka being the dominant power with their allies the British, Terran Federation having loose influence in the system primarially over the Colony, Revanna Colony standing alone as one of the weakest powers, Pirates attacking shipping with impunity and out of our ability to combat them or bring favorable terms.) by adding a new power unassociated with all the others, with opportunities to get new tech (through force, diplomatic means, purchase, mercenary work, etc), the ability to forge new relationships and sever old ones (alliance with the new force, allying with the pirates or Kalinka, seperating from the TF with backing of an ally), ability to get some of the more restraining aspects of the situation off of us (by the threat of spreading forces too thin to prevent action), and more.

He's one of THEM You make it sound like Bronies are a bad thing. Well, well, well, it seems we have some neigh sayers in the audience. - The Great and Powerful Trixie

Thanks for letting us know, the Oak prize chest was put into the table under the wrong room, the chest has now been set to appear under the Games Room.

Can you two please Stop spamming the thread, its getting annoying, Either take this to the Back room or PM, it doesn't need to be in the Topic for Space. On topic: For those of you who missed it I was appointed as the colonial Governer.

Wednesdays seem to be open for me starting next week until September when unless you are planning to run the game late in the day (after ~8 PM CST) I would be unable to attend due to having 5 hours of labs to attend. I will likely get a character written up by Friday this week, though it may be later as I have finals.

May as well Clarify my question with the possibilities I can see: 1) Characters are as they have always been 2) Characters are not as they have always been, with magic training in use of their new form 3) Characters are not as they have always been, with additional personality(such as having their human mind share the mind of their new form) 4) Characters are not as they have always been, unfamiliar with form 5) Whatever is convient for the character

Hmm... need to know some information for putting a character description in context; Specifically does the game transfer the characters directly through the Frame device as is, or do the characters end up as what they are as a result of passing through the frame device? (put simply: is this set in a world where there are all sorts of things and the unusual characters get directly put into the game, or is it set in roughly the real world with only humans who are changed to their final form as a result of being captured?) While it is not vital it does help massively for creating logical characters to know this.

Probably wont attend this session as I am heading across town to a MTG New Phyrexia(sp?) prerelease event.
-
Well, you more or less were directly referencing my Kingmaker character with: "The thing is that, instead of being ready-built adventurers with 16s in every stat, the characters are like regular people, and have flaws and weaknesses, as well as strengths" As having 16 in more than half of all Stats is not exactly all that common, which is something that my Kingmaker character has

Retech, if you have a problem with the way I play Pathfinder and Dungeons and Dragons, Tell me about it in a PM as Sniping me on every page of your own game is somewhat immature from my point of view, as it accomplishes absolutely nothing. Also, in Pathfinder only Barbarians get the Rage ability except through the use of magic or special abilities.

Lynx, since this is your first time running a game (I think) I would like to give you a bit of advice for running an RPG focusing on the roleplaying: Make sure all of the NPCs in a game are sufficiently seperated from yourself (Personality, description, motives, accomplishments, etc.) to help distance yourself from the characters, as the worst thing that can happen while running a game is for what happens to your characters in game to negatively effect you in real life.

I was merely trying to be helpful by explaining that generally it is a good idea to provide an idea of what you intend for the players to make their characters like. Even if you do not want to strictly say what is and isn't a valid option, Providing that general idea of what you want will go a long way towards avoiding difficult characters from the perspective of running things. (Stricter settings like D&D and Pathfinder largely deal with the issue by having reletively few choices for characters, when Freeform games essentially demand pointing the players in the general direction you want them to go in during character creation) Then I simply provided a brief example of the type of thing that ended up fitting in the extremely loose restrictions provided (Had to be attending Yume Acadamy as a student, which in terms of description seems to be a Secondary School likely in the sense of anime/manga use of them as a setting, and ended up getting trapped in the game of 'The End' by the mysterious Lady Yume. For all we know about the introduction it may actually be Anything goes as a result of the mysterious machine) which was most likely something that was not intended. EDIT: Also I was trying to highlight the ambiguity of some of the terms on the character format, which have very different meanings between general useage and tabletop RPG usage

Well, really its not needed to provide detailed information on exactly what a character can be, however it is generally suggested as if you leave it up to the player to completely wing it you can encounter some interestingcharacters such as this random sample I threw together: [spoiler=Sample unusual character (do note that there are MLP:FIM spoilers contained as I copy and pasted a convient plot summary that fit this concept after making barely any edits)] Name: Twilight Sparkle Age: 15(?) Race: Unicorn Fighter Class: Psion - Nomad Bio: Twilight was eager to join the festivities of the Summer Sun Celebration that took place in Canterlot. Seeing the ruler of Equestria raise the sun inspired her to study everything there is about magic. Her parents noticed their daughter's interest and enrolled her into Yume Academy. The only thing in the way of her dream was an entrance exam she was required to pass. The test was to hatch a dragon's egg, which Twilight failed to perform under the pressure of the exam. Just as she gives up and apologizes for wasting the testers' time, she hears a boom from outside. Inexplicably, her magical energy is triggered. The egg hatches, revealing Spike. However, she soon loses control and causes chaos inside the exam room, causing the judges to levitate, turning her parents into potted plants, and making the dragon grow to immense size. Princess Celestia, having seen the event from outside, stands next to Twilight and places her hoof on her, making Twilight's magic wear off and returning everything to normal. Celestia compliments Twilight on her raw power, but reminds her that it requires focused studying to control it. She offers to take Twilight under her wing as her new protege. With her parents silently encouraging her to accept, Twilight says "yes" ad bursts into cries of happiness, but Celestia adds one other thing -- she points out to Twilight that a cutie mark, a violet-colored star with five small white stars surrounding it, appeared on her flank. Twilight soon hops around the princess, even more excited than ever.

Yeah, after thinking about this, I am not really interested in this game, as even though single type opponent games can make interesting stories, they tend to force optimization as you know exactly what types of things work and dont work against creatures and the GM expects you to play based on these facts specifically.

Hmm... What sources are allowed for character creation? (IE: Paizo only, 3rd party allowed, authorized Homebrew, OGL 3.5 1st party, OGL 3.5 3rd party, OGL 3.5 authorized homebrew, OGL 3.0 ")

Aww... so my only fun character concept is out of the question, even though it only had 42AC, +10 attack, a godly amount of spellcasting, and massive saves and assorted other bonuses when stated as a lv 1 character... (The thing made use of by the book content out of 3.0, 3.5, and Pathfinder along with a rather simple bit of Pathfinder Homebrew content for flavor) even if I was going to take the worst set of feats ever created (final effect is that you cannot deal any type of damage or you take penalties) Well, I personally dont have an ideas on anything fun to do in a powergaming campaign so I guess I will be sitting this game out, though I may be willing to run a anti powergaming dungeon once in awhile.
-
So am I right in understanding that as: if we can find rules for it we can use it? if that is correct I may actually play if I can attend sessions using a comical build that is both excessively OP and excessively UP at the same time (several aspects of the character would allow for a character that literally breaks the game system, however it is combined with some of the most absurdly limiting feats ever made). (straight up powergaming is far from fun in my opinion)
-
Well, I certainly wont be able to make the first session. What system of D&D will this be making use of? a few resources you may find helpful: WOTC 3.5 Dungeon Tile Mapper (goto the settings tab and enable freeform to remove the piece count restrictions WOTC 3.5 Art and Map Gallery Archive
