  1. I have exactely 5 albums of Bright Eyes. Also the one of his side project Desaparecidos. So if any emo-bashers want to flame us; we'll handle em ;)
  2. Yeah, I have bought all 4 Sufjan albums recently (or are there any others apart from Seven Swans, Illinois, Michican and the Avalanche?). Have you bought his 'the Avalanche' yet? It's filled with glorious B-sides of Illinois.
  3. First of all: I hate idiots who think they're good drummers because they can do a solo. It's just not right. A drum is in the first place always an instrument to indicate the beat and rhytm of the song, not an instrument to be played on solo. A band needs a drum, just as much as a drum needs a band. Also, aside from being able to lead the band, I think a drummer needs to be the more or less silent, intelligent type of the band. The mysterious person hidden behind his machine. That's why my favourite drummer is Dave Grohl in his Nirvana period. Not only was he a perfect example of how you have to lead the rhytm, he also used to be the prototype of the mysterious talented kid, exactely what appeals to me.
  4. KUL; Catholic University Leuven. I'm going to my 3rd year of applied economics, or commercial engineer, whatever you'd like to call it. Even though the uni has nothing to do with Catholicism these days, it used to be a great advantage for universities to be catholic. Financial and political support, plus having the name of being a trustworthy university. The others were often not taken seriously. The KUL was founded in 1425; that makes it the oldest Catholic Uni in the world and one of the oldest overall. Probably the most notable effort our uni has brought the world was the founding of professional surgery and medical research. Before the physician Anreas Vesalius, medical research was based on biblical knowledge and very primitive Greek and Roman manuscripts. Andreas was fascinated by the human body and, although it was strictly forbidden by the church, he wanted to know how our bodies really functioned. So he stole the bodies of condemned murderers, who had been hung earlier that day, and cut them open to study the human body. That bold move allowed him to explain many of our body's functions and eventually to cure the malfunctions of it. His most famous book, De humani corporis fabrica (On the Workings of the Human Body), was the first book that described the insides of the body. When he was offered a seat in the KUL, anatomy finally became a legit object of study, even though it was still pretty much condemned by the Church. Up to this day, the KUL, is still one of the leading centres of knowledge concerning medical research and development. A few other important alumni: Mercator; father of modern carthography and geography, Erasmus and Lipsius; the founders of humanism, and Lemą̮̉̉tre; father of the Big Bang theory, along with an entire list of important people that proved spacial stuff :-s
  5. Chopin is probably the most influential composer of piano-based music. One of his most famous works is 'le Marche Fun̮̬̉̉bre' aka the death march. I also believe he was the one who wrote 'here copmes the bride' but that could've been a piece from Wagner or some one else either. Anyway, I'm sure there are at least 5 of his works you'll know. A lot of classical music tunes are actually used in rock music or as background music for commercials.
  6. Hah! Here I am :) If you want the Requiem you're looking for, I have about 4 different version of Wolfie's version. edit: I'm uploading it as we speak. Be quick to download it though, it only stays online 2 days or something. edit̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâò: http://www.sendspace.com/file/tr68bk - the 11minute version You're welcome.
  7. Also looks a bit like Bowie. But it isn't Bowie, I'd recognize the cover then. :-s edit: I was pmed this was my 3000th post. Yay me!
  8. It could be Daan - Victory, but I think it's the true cover, isn't it? Anyway, this is what Victory cover looks like: If it's not, keep guessing folks :)
  9. Bath, absolutely! There is no moment in the week more relaxing than a bath on Sunday evening, after having entertained 15-20 little children in my youth movement an entire day.
  10. Well, obviously, since they're Canadian. There are a few bands that are heroic in Belgium, but very unknown in the US or everywhere outside 500 miles from Belgium. I bet you don' know dEUS, for example.
  11. Sigur RÃÆÃâÃâós is already the most commonly known post-rock band and Eels has been around for more than a decade. Madonna and even Pamela Anderson listen to Sigur RÃÆÃâÃâós :( I would'nt want the Arcade Fire to become awefully mainstream, that would ache my heart. But the others... they're either on their way or are already there. Besides, I don't have the time to post everything I love, just go to: http://www.last.fm/user/Oy_/ and I hope you'll find some other beauties.
  12. Oh, I thought Merc had guessed your album, could've been something from Ayreon. I don't know anything about stream of passion, and very little about Ayreon. They're not my genre of music, so excuse me while I take my leave.
  13. The 10-20 people that will read this won't make too much of a difference. Besides, spread the love! :) Some of my favourite songs to chill: -Sorry that the list is so long, I wanted to cut it down but that would be unfair for all those songs I had to leave out ;) I have a few playlists of my favourtie artist in my collection, I just used them- Eels: That's Not Really Funny/ Your Lucky Day in Hell/ Fresh Feeling/ Novocaine for the Soul/ Susan's House/ Beautiful Freak/ Blinking Lights (For Me)/ My Beloved Monster/ Hey Man (Now You're Really Living)/ Old [cabbage]/New [cabbage]/ In The Yard, Behind The Church/ Numbered Days/ Bride Of Theme From Blinking Lights/ The Other Shoe/ Love of the Loveless/ Trouble With Dreams/ Suicide Life/ Theme From Blinking Lights/ Spunky/ I Like Birds/ Souljacker Part I/ Mr. E's Beautiful Blues/ Grace Kelly Blues/ Going To Your Funeral Pt2/ Flyswatter/ Fresh Feeling, again/ Your Lucky Day in Hell, again/ Last Stop This Town This is the playlist I combined last week. I have 9 CDs of Eels, some live recordings, and I took my favourites out of evry one of them and tried to put them in a good order. Bright Eyes: The entire CD 'Digital Ash in a Digital Urn'. The songs aren't meant to be heard separately. Sigur RÃÆÃâÃâós: The () album: fantastic music to listen to while lying in the garden or when you need to study with a calm and serene sound on the background. TÃÆÃâÃâákk, Von and Agaetis Byrjun albums: they're always able to switch my mood from moody to happy. MÃÆÃâÃâúm: entire collection is fantastic, there's not a single flaw in it. My favourite post-rock band. The Arcade Fire: My personal favourite musical revelation this year, and I've discovered a lot of beauties. Their inspirational and orchestral indie sound seems to be divine, really. Every single time I listen to their fantastic debut album, Funeral, I get shivers down my spine and a wave of euphoria takes a hold of me. Songs like 'Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)', 'Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)', 'Wake Up', 'Rebellion (Lies)' and especially 'In the Backseat' really provoke the cheerful feeling you get when you're in love. I'm sure I'll love this band even 70 years from now, if I still am able to properly hear them at least. My advice to everyone that's mature enough to like something more than common rock: buy yourself the Funeral album, work yourself into the music of Sigur RÃÆÃâÃâós, MÃÆÃâÃâúm, Mogwai and all other great post-rock bands and you'll see there's plenty more good music next to other good, but common rock classics like the RHCP, the Queens or SoaD.
  14. Or, just live. AFAIK, Bob Dylan never did anything special to write his poetic stories. He's the best singer-songwriter according to me, not just because he's the father of hundreds of great songs, also because every single one of them is a revelation, certainly 40 years ago. He was the first person to critisize the world in a pleasant way, and he was very influential doing so. He is the trigger behind our current critical point of view towards the entire world and its problems. That's probably what every songwriter dreams about, or at least what I would want to achieve. I don't want to go all OT here, but being able to open the eyes of millions, possible billions of people, that's worth so much more than having 10 billion. So if you're planning on writing about something more than love and being in love, just take your time to be out there, see the world, take the time to evaluate it and the lyrics will come without too much effort.
  15. I saw it in the stroe today. Man it's expensive. 75̢̢̮ââ¬Ã¡Ãâìs here.
  16. I just bought a live album from Dylan, Hullabaloo from Muse, best of from Blur, Remixes from Depeche Mode and Salival from Tool. I love ego-shopping
  17. Who's next now? Aus Fighter? Rick?
  18. When that happens, the loot is perhaps 5 times as big, but there are at least 10 times more tickets sold. It would be smarter to buy a ticket whenever there's not much at stake. Yeah, but I figure if I'm gonna waste money on something that has virtually no chance of being a good investment, I'm gonna go all the way. Hehe, yeah, if you're in for the thrill, at least the money is well-spent. It's like playing the slots for a minute. It's fun, till you realise you've been ripped off ;)
  19. Jeez Louise - Grandaddy I like their last CD, but under the western freeway was definately the best one they've made.
  20. I loved high school.
  21. If that was correct, new album pa-lease! Arjen Lucassen is Ayreon... the guy who played with Stream of Passion on the album Daan posted. ;) I know he is, but I didn't recognize the cover. So cover us up Merc! And let this be another little masterpiece :)
  22. If that was correct, new album pa-lease!
  23. Me too! Except without the 'just' ;)
  24. When that happens, the loot is perhaps 5 times as big, but there are at least 10 times more tickets sold. It would be smarter to buy a ticket whenever there's not much at stake.
