  1. Unless I missed this somewhere else, the music that plays when entering your POH has changed.
  2. I am still looking forward to this update. It actually gets better the more I think about it. First of all, I don't care about the crybaby whiny children who can no longer sell unid guam leaves for 1k. Too flipping bad, find an honest way to make a living. Second, cleaning will be no different that ID'ing herbs is now. Personally, I will still pick up grimey/dirty guams and clean them for my 2.5 exp before dropping them. Thus, no change in time, clicks, or exp anyway. Finally, it gives me the ability to make an informed choice. As a mid-level herblorist (54), I need to decide whether to keep my high level herbs for later or sell them now. Now, I can make a real decision as to whether it was worth my time in collecting to sell the torstol that I won't be able to use for months, or if I should just keep them to use later. AND I will get a fair price for them. Any update that stops people from taking advantage of others is a great update. And any loophole that allows people to take advantage of others ruins the game and caters to children. Bring on the transparency!!
  3. Nope. They can ALWAYS build a better idiot! While the quote may be true from a certain point of view, JaGEx usually makes all of its corrections in favor of those who generate the basic supplies to the economy - as well they should. Miners, woodcutters, fishers, and gatherers SHOULD control the economy. Whatever amount they consider their time to be worth is the basis of everything we do in the marketplace (and this is why autoers/gold farmers are such a detriment - they reduce the time value of materiel procurement). The greater good is served by encouraging everyone to get their own raw materials. Those who buy materials for training deserve the higher costs they may see as a result of the update. The economy is always secondary to the game itself. Skillers and pures are not the object of the game and will almost always lose when an update is made. One of the original points of RS is that there are no classes, and everyone is expected to be good at everything (making it very unique among RPG's). Those who are generalists will benefit. Those who specialize will usually get caught by something tha will be detrimental to them for making that choice.
  4. I think it will be exactly what it says it aill be - a Zamorkian RC altar that will make a random number of runes that may be above or below your level. It will give you anything from single airs to double the next level rune above your current level, and it will be RANDOM. Now JaGEx may narrow the results a bit, but I think, from what was written, that the random result factor is essential to the new altar. Plus the fact that several quests have told us that the Zamorkians are desperately seeking the secrets of RC. It means they have found something, but it's not quite right. Random runes, random amounts, possibly higher than you can craft by your current level.
  5. I thik this is a fantastic update. Anything that adds knowledge to the consumer is good for the economy. This will allow buyers to know what they are paying for, and sellers to get the value that they deserve. It is also a great benefit for medium level herblorists. The market for unids never really worked for "unids above avantoe" or similar sales. This update will allow everyone to know what they are buying and/or selling. I really don't see a downside, unless it is for selling unids for those who cannot identify ranaars and above - they can no longer sell "high level unids" for more than they are really worth. Open markets are good, and educated buyers make for fairer markets.
  6. It is always sad to see someone leave what was once an important part of their life, whether online or IRL. And anyone can easily understand that RL has to come before anything online! I've been reading here for almost 3 years, and registered for about half of that. I cannot believe I never heard about Lightning until this thread! Apparently I owe you many thanks for all that I have learned, read, and enjoyed here. For that I will be ever greatful. This site is an amazing resource. I wish you all the best in everything that you do. Outside of RS is an amazing world saturated with very fulfilling endeavors. Enjoy as many as you can! I guess, as someone who doesn't get involved in anything beyond reading this site (the amazing TET, admin, etc.), the only thing that strikes me as being really odd is that I have yet to see Silverion respond here in any way at all. Having been involved in volunteer organizations and politics my entire adult life, it really shouldn't surprise me, but it always does. Best wishes Lightning. Thank you for all you have done, and the very best of luck in all that you shall endeavor in the future.
  7. Why would anyone who is muted deserve to talk in clan chats? The punishment for whatever infraction was committed is that you are not allowed to commnicate with others in game except through emotes. There is no reason for this to be reduced just because the game now has another way to chat. I don't think there is any good reason why clan chat should be different from public or private chat. The fact that it is new and someone wants to "try it out" is certainly not a good reason.

  10. Got all the way to page 11 thinking I might be the only one, and then I saw this: So am I!
  11. I think that the point about skill capes is completely backwards. As many others have pointed out, the most popular skills are not the ones that are gained by generating raw materials. This is something JaGEx could have avoided, and shoud have forseen, when they designed the trimmed capes. What they need to do is fix the skill capes so that you can only have a trimmed cape if you have an appropriate offsetting skill. For example, if you have the cooking cape, only the fishing cape gets it trimmed, and vice-versa. Some of the skills could be easily matched up this way in order to make sure every trimmed cape was the result of not just a "buy and change" skill, but required a "gather materials" skill as well. Players desire to achieve the trimmed capes, which would be status symbols soon enough, would drive them to go after those materials and skills that best offset each other. The problem is that all of he skills don't really have logical offsets, Sure some are easy - Fish/cook, Firemaking/woodcutting, mine/smith, herb/farm. What to do with the others? Fletch/Range(maker your own arrows/bolts) or fletch/craft(make your own bowstrings/bolt tips)? Mage/rc? And nothing really goes with contruction. Maybe that should just not be able to be trimmed at all. Maybe there could be triples? Sure it all goes against the double-edged sword of RS's basic tenet of "no classes, everybody can be whatever they want" but encouraging people in a certain direction through desirable rewards wouldn't really violate that.
  12. Don't even worry about it at all. I enjoy combat more than anything else, so I have you beat by a long shot for CB lvl to total lvl ratio. I'm level 101 with a total lvl of 1283. Do what you enjoy and don't worry about what anyone else thinks of your levels. It's not worth the effort.
  13. And I think anyone who PKs an unwilling victim, lies to or deceives someone to get them into the wilderness or farther into the wilderness, piles or teams on any player, or otherwise preys upon the weak for the simple purpose of killing players and getting their stuff should be banned. This is why we are having the debate. And you know what? I have never been lured and I have never lost items that I wasn't willing to lose. I am not whining about anything. Some people have no honor and cannot win in a fair fight, so they pick on others and justify it away by either blaming the victim or otherwise legitimizing bad behavior. Fight fair with people who are willing to fight, or stop whining about your inability to get easy kills. If someone cannot win one-on-one against a player who is there because they are willing to fight, that person is simply a bully who enjoys picking on those who can't fight back. People like that need to grow up. This is why luring should stay a reportable, bannable offense - just as rule 2 has always said it is. And still does.
  14. This whole thing about luring has aggravated me than any other thing I have seen go on in three years of playing. The simple fact is that Rule 2 is very clear and unambiguous: Lying or deceiving others for personal gain is against the rules. Just because one rogue j-mod makes a posting of an interpretation of the rules does not constitute a vaild change in the Terms & Condidtions under which we have all agreed to operate. I don't care if Andrew himself made a posting about the rules in the forums, it doesn't actually change the rules according to the contract. The T&C does NOT require anyone to read the forums to know the rules, however is does require jagex to enforce the rules as listed on the website. In this instance I actually reported the j-mod in question for a violation of Rule 9 (encouraging others to break the rules) and to my complete shock, the very same mod I complained about answered me saying his interpretation was the "official position" of Jagex. This is a completely unacceptable form of customer support. What is really annoying is the way they have perpetrated this mess from the beginning. A j-mod made a sticky posting which constitutes a MAJOR change to the Rules and the T&C and did so in a single forum read by a small percentage of players. The mods then locked almost every discussion of the change except for one thread in the Forum Feedback area. They also contradicted themselves by saying that luring is legal, but discussing it in the forums is not. Now someone really needs to explain to me why we are not allowed to discuss something in the forums if it is actually an acceptable part of the game. As to the luring itself, there are different definitions of exactly what constitutes luring. Trade scamming in or near the wildy should be an immediately bannable offence at all times. This should be especially true for those who abuse a known bug that allows players to be taken into the wildy against their will and without being able to see the wilderness warning screen. And yes, there is a bug that does that, and no I will not describe it in better detail here. Deception againt trusting players will get us more of the kind of people that I really don't want in the game. Much like abuse, those who are lured will become lurers. We will lose those people who would be the best players in the game. Those who are honest, trusting, and willing to work with others. I have nothing against those who PK. It's a part of the game. I have a major problem with those who would lie (including lies of ommission) and deceive just to get the kill. It's only fun if everyone involved is having fun. The person who has been lured, killed, and robbed is not having fun. They are simply being abused at the hands of others for amusement and personal gain. The people who do this are exactly the kind of people the game would be better off without - bullies. I respect the idea that the wilderness is a dangerous place. I actually don't think it is dangerous enough. I think Jagex should simply stop ALL trading in the wilderness, period. The wilderness is a place where the strongest should survive, and the better player should win. If you go there, and you believe in that philosophy, then you don't need your friend to give you food or an anti-poison. You should die just like anyone else would. There are a lot of hypocrites who say the wilderness is every player for themselves, but would cry if we didn't let them trade there anymore. It's as simple as this - don't kill if your not willing to die. Luring is a despicable practice and should continue to be a reportable and bannable offense. I really don't care if the poeple in CS don't think they can keep up with the reports, or determine what really happened. That is a problem for the programmers at Jagex to fix. Players should not be made to suffer until Jagex does their job. I am disappointed in the entire response of Jagex to this situation. They have refused to give players proper notification of a major change in the rules, or they have continued to allow one of there employees to violate the rules without giving the players any kind of recourse. At least it is good to know that the company thinks they are doing well enough to open themselves up to this kind of potential liability.
  15. Groan. Great, another post where the poster edited both the title and the orignal post so that nobody will ever be able to search for the topic/question and find the answer. Why do people do that? Please do NOT erase the title and the origanial post. Somebody else will have the same question as you someday. It has been answered, but now they can't use search to find it!! We would all be better off if they could just do that instead of asking again.
  16. The whole idea has really made me rethink my strategy on getting to 99 fletching. I've decided that I may just go the whole way in fletching with maples. While it may be slower, it can be done a whole lot cheaper. It can even still be done at a profit using maples (maybe). If you start from level 70 at 737,627 XP (yew longs) it takes 13,034,431 XP to get to 99. This works out to be: - 211,104 Unstrung Maple Longbows - 182,175 Unstrung Yew Shortbows - 163,958 Unstrung Yew Longbows Using Managing Thy Kingdom, maples can be gotten for 56.1 gp each. Even if there was no change in the yew market, and yews stay at 300 gp each, there is a HUGE cost difference in getting there. 211,104 maples @ 56.1 gp = 11,842,934 gp 163,958 yews @ 300 gp = 49,187,400 gp In more meaningful numbers, the additional work that needs to be done works out to be 1746 full inventories and 4 individual pieces of logs to longbows. If you want to use MTK to gather flax and spin your own bowstrings, you can cut those numbers in half. You can also plan on 1,583,280 crafting XP for the 155,552 bowstrings you will spin making maple longs. Of course, if you want to go the stringing and high alching route, these numbers are no where near as good. Unless you can get your nats for under 288 gp each, you can't make a profit on maple longs. Strung maple longs, using MTK, will cost 96.1 gp each (56.1 for a log, 40 per flax). They high alch for 348 each. In the final analysis, I find that this could still be profitable because of the rest of the MTK results. If you use MTK to strictly supply your fletching needs it can easily pay for itself and your base cost would be 0. Using MTK with 100% approval, full coffers, 10 workers on flax, and 5 workers on maples will net the following results per day: - 1250 flax - 445 maples - 2 herb seeds - 4 birds nests (Results get better if you don't collect every day. See Sin81's MTK guide for optimum bonus results and number of days - http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=579970) Sell off 750 flax per day to cover your MTK costs, and your maples and additional flax are free. Seeds and nests are daily profit. Now, even normal price nats result in some kind of profit from high alching because those would be your only costs. Paying 300 for nats will still net you 48 gp per strung maple long. A total profit of 7,466,496 gp. I'm not a power skiller by any means, and I am in no particular hurry to get this done. I guess I may be unique in that I really don't care that this method would take 238 days to complete levels 70-99. In the mean time, I can chop yews as I please to supplement the plan and get small bursts of activity done to reduce the time needed. Not to mention that I can accomplish the goal far more reasonably in terms of funds needed to get going. In 10 day collection periods for MTK, I never need more that 1,500,000 gp in the kingdom coffers at any given time to keep going. Yeah it's slow and methodical, but I've been called those things before. ::edited to fix a slight math miscalculation
  17. The official site for Affliction has moved, so older links may not work correctly. They are no longer taking applications on the old site. Go to http://www.afflictionpc.net to join. There's a process for confirming your stats and ID, but it usually takes just a little while to get going. When I was a member of Affliction, it was always good for training.
  18. While I understand what your trying for here, lately it seems that the solution is even worse. If people are going to edit the titles, they NEED to leave the original topic in place and add "ANSWERED" to the end of it. There are now a whole bunch of threads in General Help and Advise that just say answered and you cannot tell waht the thread was about. Post topics are important to avoid duplicates and make search results meaningful.
  19. It is obvious from the number of threads being called spam, locked, and the countless useless posts that are being made apparently for the sole purpose of increasing post counts that having them no longer serves a useful purpose. I would suggest that since they serve a counter-productive purpose that the feature be turned off.
  20. In the current guide it says this: "If the bird escapes, you will notice that the perch has fallen to ground level; right click the trap and lay it again." This is not true. If the bird snare falls down because nothing has landed on it, you can right click to lay the snare while it is on the ground. If a bird lands and trips the snare but is not caught, it will still be standing, and you must dismantle the snare and set it again. [Ginger Warrior, 29/Jun ~ Reworded to be less ambiguous. Thanks!]
  21. I just wanted to say thank you for this guide. I had never done anything in hunter before, and did 1-40 in about 4 hours today using this. Nice job. I look forward to the improvements and the additional knowledge to come as the levels get higher.
  22. I'm just really boring. Dravian was a name that I used for a paper D&D character back in the mid 1980's. Yes, I played D&D on paper, and the char was a Paladin that I used for years. Holy Avenger FTW! I started using online in the early 90's when I was playing NeverWinter Nights on AOL (and paying out the nose by the hour!!). I became a guild chief in NWN, and the guild was called the Brotherhood of Pathfinders, a.k.a. BoP. I remember writing an entire backstory for Dravian Ranthorne that was on one of the roleplaying boards on AOL for years. When I started RS, Dravian was already taken, so I took Bop Dravian. Never have found the person who had my name. I don't think any of that guild besides me ever made it to RS, although they did spread out among many MMORPGs after AOL shut down NeverWinter.
  23. Thanks. That was it. Wrong gloves.
  24. Ok, so here's the clue I'm having trouble with: "Spin on the bridge by the Barbarian Village. Salute before you talk to me. Equip purple gloves, a steel kiteshield aand a mithril full helmet." Seems simple enough, but I can't get it. Only one bridge near the Barbarian Village, and everything else is obvious. The only thing I can think is wrong is that I'm using H.A.M. gloves. Are there any other purple gloves in the game?? Drav
