Remove the Swift Switch ban
I don't work for TIF, but even I can understand why. Why in the world would you give free publicity to your rivals? Seriously, is it that hard for you to understand?

Music. Because of the Lyrics, or the Instruments?
Guys, it's really really really obvious that good music needs more than one factor. But the question is which one do you prefer if you had to choose.

Lyrics. I like something I can sing along too. One of the reasons why I hate metal and rap.

college where would you want to go
Funny thing, last Wednesday, we had a graduate from my high school to come and talk about his uni experience. He talked to about 30 people or so and we got to ask questions. Throughout his talk, he was just talking about work, then he had a full time job, and how he went to France to practice his French. Then I asked how he paid for his studies, then he says he had full scholarship on his first year. Then someone asked what grades he got and he was like "oh, well I did well in my last year.. I did pretty good" Then he says, "I got something 92 or 93." It's not that we were surprised he got that mark, it's just how he was so modest about it. He was offered a 'better' scholarship in Uni of Toronto, but he said no and went to York instead.

Youtubers to get share of ad money
Yeah, I get that when watching clips from CNN or Reuters and stuff. But what bothers me is that I remember reading something before where they (the founders) don't want that kind of adverts in YouTube. I think it was in the Time article, but something like that.

Marijuana. As bad as they say it is?
I agree with it being illegal though. Once you walk past the line and say, "ok this drug (marijuana) is now legal," then someone will come up and say, "what about the other drugs? why keep them illegal? you made this one legal!" and so on and so forth.

If you're talking about this thread: http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=605886 I may disagree with him, but lol, he can argue way better than others. At least he hasn't had to result to ad hominem during his posts rofl, which is more than I can say for some people. Besides, why ban it? These threads aren't common.

Arranged marriage is barbaric
If I'm going to take the time to do that, can you list cultures that are supposed to 'thrive' off arranged marriage? 'Cause the reasons why people would use arranged marriage is inter-family relationships. Also, it ensures that their child marries someone of their preference (race, caste, etc.). Not exactly for 'thriving'

Arranged marriage is barbaric
What's the benefit of forcing people into marriage and allowing them to choose? And for argument's sake, can you list cultures that thrive from arranged marriage?
-
Arranged marriage is barbaric
Marriages don't have to be regulated to keep the society thriving. Other cultures don't force people to marry and their societies work fine. Sorry if I didn't make it clearer, but the caste system itself is barbaric. It's uncivilized to discriminate a certain caste just because they're deemed as lower in the society.

I fully agree, except for the part where you said it's not going downhill. The community feel is gone since some people left and some people joined. Even I wasn't as arrogant as some of these people when I joined. The newer people had probably labeled me as an arse, but the thing is, I wouldn't be an [wagon] to you if you weren't one to begin with.

Post Pictures of Your Desktop - August
Customizing Your Desktop: Widgets & Visual Styles Widgets: In layman's terms, it's those fancy clock/calendar/weather/etc. tools that appear on people's desktops. To use it, download the Widget Engine @ http://widgets.yahoo.com/ Browse the gallery for more widgets. Be careful though as these things hog a lot of RAM. Visual Styles: Visual Styles is what changes the theme/appearance of the display - from the taskbar to the program title bars. This is a bit more complicated than the Widgets, but it makes the desktop look much better. Some people prefer to have some programs (ie. WindowsBlinds, StyleXP, etc.) to change the appearance. But we don't need that. What we need is to patch your computer's uxtheme DLL to not need these programs. Download the patcher at: http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=501245 - Universal UXTheme Patcher. There's other versions of this, but this is the one I used. It's a mere 66kb file. Unrar it and patch! Now that the uxtheme DLL is patched, you can now freely install any Visual Styles of your choosing, these are the sites I recommend: http://browse.deviantart.com/customizat ... lltime=yes http://www.wincustomize.com/skins.aspx?libid=1 Wallpaper: The basics. http://interfacelift.com/wallpaper/ http://browse.deviantart.com/customization/wallpaper/ Note: to mods, when doing the monthly cleaning, it would be nice if you can keep this post. A lot of people ask the same question every month about these things. edit: http://cpkc.wordpress.com/2007/01/30/cu ... r-desktop/ - I tried to make it clearer in this post. Cursor:

Arranged marriage is barbaric
Oh, alright. From the initial posts, I couldn't make it out if you were just trolling me or not. Because it is obvious that I have this view of arranged marriage is because it is not employed by my culture. But thanks for this post, much clearer for me than the earlier ones. I'm sure it's the lack of comprehension on my part, but very sorry if I kinda got irritated. It's tough to speak for every culture as there's a lot of circumstances to consider, but I'll try. A spouse is different from the family you're born into because you can actually choose who it should be. This is the person you're going to permanently be with for the rest of your life. As you get older, you move out of your parents' house and build your own. The ability to choose who you'll spend the rest of your life with is crucial because it will affect not just you, but your children as well. Would your parents know what you would want as a wife? What I've seen some people post here is that the parents would want the best for their child. Of course they would, but how would they know that the spouse-to-be will be the 'best'? Do they spend time with the him/her? 'Love' isn't something made up. It's an emotion that affects people psychologically if suppressed. Let's take into consideration another thing - the gender. What if the child is homosexual? Most of the cultures that employ arranged marriage belong to countries where homosexuality is condemned and criminalised. Imagine a gay person being forced into a permanent relationship with a woman. That just won't work. Another thing I want to point out is how the discipline of arranged marriage is similar to caste systems. The only one I've actually studied is the Indian Caste System where your future depends on your bloodline. What your job would be in the society is decided by the society itself. Yes, one can argue that it keeps the society moving as it ensures that every need of the society will be taken care of. Similar to how you stated that people marry just to make sure the society functions. But the most famous critic of such system is Mahatma Ghandi. He fought to have the caste system fixed because it is not fair, especially for the ones in the bottom caste as it's legal to treat them like nothing. Just because it ensures their society works still doesn't mean it's right.
