Botting in Runescape
Some of these are issues with game design that could be solved. But some of that is simply the way MMOs are designed, and how they attract long term players. Keep in mind that aproximately half the xp for 99 is from 92-99. Yes, some skills take time, but that is the nature of MMOs. The goal is to get you the player invested in their character. If you make it so all the best content is easy to get, you appease some gamers for a little while. Then they get bored and move onto new games. If you instead create balance by requiring time investment, you create emotional attachment to the game. Yes, sometimes grind is an issue. But *most* of the grind is at the higher end. For example 99s. I do not have a single 99, but I have accessed the vast majority of the game's content. In fact, most content can be accessed before 92 *the half way point in terms of exp/time* Do things you do have access to and find enjoyable. You don't have to be the most time efficient. If that means you don't have fun playing rs, try a different game. Or promote jagex to create interesting content at the levels you would like. (This isn't "create content that makes lower time to grind to the so called 'good' content). In terms of good low level content being crashed by higher levels: I do see this as an issue. I believe that Jagex should create systems to allow high+low levels to work together more on some minigames. Also I would like to see instanced bosses where high levels cannot crash out low levels just because of being better at killing monsters. The same goes for spots. Maybe create spots which cannot be accessed past a certain point, (but provide new spots for those players). Sort of like kuradel's dungeon. It is simply better than other slayer spots for certain monsters. It has enough spawns to prevent people from going to more accessible locations. This means that fewer people will crash low levels of their more accessible spots when slaying. I would like to see more updates like these (promote minigame interaction by providing minigames which give both types of players a chance to interact and compete on fair grounds, and providing spots/spawns such that higher level players can't/won't crash low level players with their cannons steel titans etc. Yes, they should be more efficient kph, but that shouldn't impede other player's kph too much.

200M in all Skills
Was asking how Paul pronounces his own name. Paul rate (treat the 3 as an e) or paul rat three.

I think it would be fun to have a City area that is PVP. Not necessarily a different world, but like the wilderness. A location where you can PVP with buildings and such. (and be mostly standard pvp rules, not a minigame)

I feel like the lamps are a nice bonus, but not as common as I would like :) I haven't recorded so this is just biased feel, but I feel like I tend to get one every two-three days.

They aren't 'bad', but just aren't good enough for the trouble it takes.

Yeah, too bad the bolts are basically too rare/expensive for regular use. (+25 ranged strength is nice..)

Next Poll Suggestion
Free trade is important because the economy was controlled by jagex, and it was messed up. I could care less about the wilderness.

Yes. I also like the fact that he is challenging even for high level players. (Rather than making *everything* rely on levels only.) I would like some sort of practice app or something that mimics his animations and sounds, and buzzes when you fail. But its more difficult that it is worth, I think. >_> I got Vanstrom on the first try, still haven't killed jad without ganodermic and tanking his mage attack...

Future Update Discussions
Fairly easily: "Speak to the shop keeper in morton after he has been permanently cured." Or just complete the task as soon as you login with that status finished?

Agreed. I just wish it wasn't a 45min-1hr session to get to a 2minutes of practice.

Many players (like me) more than have the stats for Jad, but do not have the concentration/practice to defeat Jad easily. Yes, easier than when he came out for sure, (esp with updates like gano). But I still get freaked out by when the healers show up.

Botting in Runescape
Agreed on the grind thing. However, there is a 'mid' level grind that can occur. i've had a few friends quit once they got into the 50s and 60s. They felt like there wasn't as much progress, and weren't willing to try quests. There was not a lot of 'flashy' content. (I tried to show them otherwise) but they kept looking at all the high level content and getting jealous/annoyed that it would take them so long to reach. I'm sure some of these players turn to botting instead of quitting. But that's a few months to a year in the game already.

I would like to see them apply the same ideas of melee combat to ranged and mage. Maybe with a little crossover. (Stab = ranged, for example) But give multiple types of magic and ranged damage. Don't allow raw DPS for one of the three types to outclass the others by too much.

Botting in Runescape
You achieve more moments of the initial satisfaction but it has less value. (The individual satisfaction is lower for me at least.) It also means we automatically begin to devalue other's achievements, because we believe that person didn't rightly do the work themselves. If you value your time more than playing rs the answer isn't to bot rs, the answer is to not play rs. Very simple.

Botting in Runescape
Hey guess what. Grind is a part of many real life skills. It can take *thousands* of hours to get good at instruments, sports, etc. Many societies now are based on instant gratification though. We don't want to wait for good things, we want them right now. But I like having value to my achievements. It took time and energy. But when someone else gets it for free, (botting) it devalues my effort because they get the rewards without the work. I think everyone talking here agrees. I agree with Stev, that more interesting content should be created for lower levels, but done in such a way that higher levels can't crash it. I'm not sure how this would work, although I think the best solution would be to instance the areas, so that higher level players literaly can't access the easier content. (Sort of like how each person has their own barrows brothers. but make their abilities/level increase as the player does) Then again, instanced bosses have been on a wishlist of players for a long time.

JAGEX LIMITED v.IMPULSE SOFTWARE, ERIC SNELLMAN, and MARK SNELLMAN
Law is complicated by design. Lawyers and politicians design it this way so that they can continue to give themselves money. The public can't ever understand it all, because there are simply *too many* regulations and laws and whatever else on the books to actually make sense of any of it.

We've known those titles would go at the end for a while. Shame the documentation hasn't updated with it though... (There was an official forum thread on the main rs forums asking for suggestions regarding these style of titles)

Botting in Runescape
Yes. The rules of the game state that using a bot program to play for you is not allowed. You need to explain precisely and logically *why* using a bot program is moral in this. The burden is on you, because the rule exists. Maybe the rule is immoral. But that is unlikely considering that the game is for entertainment purposes, and is designed by a company with the rules in place. They are not forcing you to play. If you don't want to play by the rules you shouldn't play. It is not your right for someone to provide entertainment at their expense (in this case maybe not financial). They can choose to offer whatever service they want to you for whatever price. You can choose to decline or accept. You as the botter are breaking contract, and should not be allowed to play. Yes, there are times where breaking contract is immoral. But the burden of proof lies on you, not on the other end of the contract. In this case you aren't following an accepted moral highground for breaking that contract you sign up for by playing. (I don't accept that botting prevents repetitive and unfun gameplay as a valid moral highground here. Simple: Don't play a game if it isn't fun. If you want a different game, go write that yourself, or pay someone else to make the game you want.) Botting in runescape is quite similar steroids in sports. It gives you an unfair competitive advantage that the people who run the game don't want to allow. (Whether they can prevent you or not is an entirely different story.) The game of runescape is (in part) a social game which botting helps lessen/destroy, because players might not be real. It is *in part* a competition about who can play better or more efficiently, which botting ruins because a legitimate player is not capable of playing as much as a bot forever. (Nor as precisely as a bot in some situations.) Unless you can show these concerns false in general (not just for one user in particular!) or show a higher reason why botting should be acceptable, your position not sound.

should i farm torstol?
Get juju pots, regardless of what you farm. They help a ton. I would do torstols, especially if you can afford to hang onto the herb for a bit to find good selling times. With greenfingers and jujus you don't need to remote farm constantly, (although it always helps).

Which goal should I have?
I'd just aim for 80 in all skills, using enjoyable methods :)

Tip.It Times - 18th March 2012
Construction could be solved by lowering some of the material prices. I like the idea of removing high alch, as picking up monster drops would be good again. The main issue is that without high alch *many* items become value-less, (random rune/addy drops, at least once you get past the ability to wear them profitably). Being able to prevent millions of gold from entering the game is kind of cool, but I think we'd still need some way to make items exit the game. Maybe make high alch change to convert items to experience. (More xp for more valuable items)

Virtual goods-Not actually Jagex's?
I think the issue here is simple: I can apply property rights when a third party (non-jagex) steals my items, or threatens me etc. However, if Jagex decides to quit Runescape, or delete my account, I can't have any legal recompense because it still wholly belongs to Jagex.

We don't like it because everyone has it, and now the older methods that were more exclusive are obselete. It's the "give me free stuff!! HOW DARE YOU GIVE FREE STUFF TO ANYONE ELSE?!?!?!?" mentality.

Another Fight cave thread..sorry
Basically for prayer switching, just don't panic when he switches. I find it easier to say outloud what his attack will be as I switch.
