Wizard - Looce, are you sure you want to go to the castle in Lumbridge right now? Looce (level-3) - Yes. Wizard - Well then. I shall give you a reasonable supply of runes for your training, and send you on your way. * The Wizard concentrates and teleports you to Lumbridge. * Upon your arrival, a creature appears distorted and pixelised all around you. The creature's words are preceded by a broken image icon, presumably to signify a graphic from its realm required in this one to accurately represent it. X Spirit (level-106) - Hello, Looce. Looce (level-3) - AAAHHH! Please don't attack me, I'm only a beginner! X Spirit (level-106) - Do not worry. I am a friendly spirit. I come from the dark age of Gielinor, to tell you a bit of advice you will need in this game. Looce (level-3) - Umm, ok? Go ahead... X Spirit (level-106) - First of all, the iron armor that your friend will give you in ten minutes... if you go to the north too much, it will end up dropped on the ground. Don't get near the Dark Wizards at your level. They're too dangerous. Keep to Lumbridge for 6 or 7 combat levels. Your combat level is shown in that tab with the graph bars on it. Understood? Looce (level-3) - Yeah... Who are you? X Spirit (level-106) - I'm a spirit living in the fourth dimension. I agree that this name is long a bit, though, so you can call me Looce. Looce (level-3) - Hey, that's me! Impostor! X Looce (level-106) - Shh, you'll get both of us banned if you do that. Looce (level-3) - ... X Looce (level-106) - It's difficult to explain. Just listen to me, OK? Second of all, don't believe everyone on this game. For example, don't believe anything about charcoal being useful on free-to-play servers, don't believe that a runite pickaxe is actually purple, don't believe that the Wine of Zamorak can give you fast levels in any skill you want etc. That wine is a lure; there are level 22 monsters around that will kill you in 3 hits if you take the wine, and the person leading you there will just close the door on you. Looce (level-3) - OK. X Looce (level-106) - And finally... Don't let this game become overrun by macros, scammers and other bad people. Have you heard about Chinese gold farmers on World of Warcraft? Looce (level-3) - No... What's World of Warcraft? X Looce (level-106) - Another game. People collect gold coins in it, just like you'll do in RuneScape. Well, the gold farmers will be moving to RuneScape, too. You must warn Jagex about it in advance, so that they're prepared to ban thousands of accounts a day. I have this crown beside my name when I speak. Do you know what it is? Looce (level-3) - You mean the broken image icon like I see in Internet Explorer? X Looce (level-106) - What? Don't be foolish, Looce. This is a player moderator's crown! Jagex will choose you, as an honest player of the game, to report rulebreakers with a bit more power. Looce (level-3) - Wait a minute, I don't see anything about moderators in the ***... I mean frequently asked questions. X Looce (level-106) - Oh yeah, the censor down here is ****, too. But they fixed FAQ... see? FAQ. And moderators haven't been invented yet. Anyway. Just remember this advice from me. Happy Scaping! Looce (level-3) - Hey, wait! How come you have the broken im... I mean crown... beside your name? And you're telling me that I'll have that crown? X Looce (level-106) - Sigh... I'm getting asked this question tons of times daily already by the people around here; you'll just have to learn on your own on May 19 of next year, when you get the crown. Also, I'm you. Looce (level-3) - Ugh, not one of those unbelievable stories again... Pinch me so I wake up, OK? X Looce (level-106) - This isn't a dream! Look, I'm you, and I'm from the future. The RuneScape you're about to play doesn't have the graphic for my crown yet, but you'll have it someday. And the bots are outnumbering honest players here. Enjoy this game while you can. * The Spirit disappears.

Vista Home Basic doesn't cost $350. Only Ultimate does.

There's an option in the poll results that allows you to filter out the free-players. The members portion of the poll still answered I don't know in majority, for the same questions as the entire userbase. :-k [etc.]

Full graphical motion is just images changing many times per second. A CPU and a GPU can both do this; the GPU is just more specialised for the job than the CPU, and can render more fluid motion. 80 MB of RAM is to store the current map, players and NPCs in your area, textures, fonts, chat text, inventory items (and images for them) and other things while you play RuneScape. Assume some more of that memory is there so that Jagex's Java code can render its image on your display, because Java can't use a graphics card for its processing. And, finally, assume some more of that memory is for the Java Virtual Machine (around 15 MB for Sun's latest VM), the browser plugin for Java (should be around 2 MB) and your browser itself (45 MB for Windows Safari, 20 for Windows Firefox etc.). And for your video memory comment, I think Jagex just knew that it would be hard to answer: there are integrated graphics chipsets that can use a variable amount of your system RAM for their functions (how are you supposed to answer that?), and there are graphics cards with their own RAM... but a computer newbie would confuse the video RAM with system RAM and produce even more buggy results.
-
I guess only the memory one was a complete failure, even though the winner for most questions was I don't know. Most people see "memory" in Jagex's poll, look at their specs, and don't find it. So they just go with the thing that has GB in it. They should have written "RAM" IMO. But meh, the poll is released already.
-
Do you think this poll was a failure for JaGeX? Not quite; apart from the "I don't know" answers, the results should be pretty accurate... Although someone remarked on IRC that the sheer amount of "I have over 2 GB of memory" answers were probably from the newbies opening up their "My Computer" and checking their hard disk's capacity. After all, it's in GB. :? Were you able to correctly answer the questions? Yes. What updates do you think this will pertain to? Normally their applet fits within a 800x600 resolution, and problems with that are rare as of yet... so I think the questions about screen resolution and aspect ratio will lead to a full-screen client.

You mean this wasn't a joke?

You might want to make one of the two radio buttons checked at design time. Set the Checked property of, say, EncodeRadioBtn, to True, then you can remove your last IF entirely. Alternatively, try this: IF/ELSE IF/ELSE allows you to decide one action to execute according to the first condition that is met, then jump to the {other code here}. This would eliminate your code path problem. P.S. It seems to me that you retyped the code into this thread and didn't copy-paste. The MessageDlg line does not compile. Your current code seems to be:

Many congratulations on 99 fishing (and about 9k more XP), Honest1. It must have been a daunting task. May your life be filled with adventure like in RuneScape. May your friendships with Tip.it members and real life people alike be filled with kindness. And... may your life be filled with Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy references? :D I will forever remember the Firefest, and the Attack of the Nulls, as those were events I helped coordinate as a part of the former TET. I still have videos I took of them with Camtasia, too. They're on a CD, clearly labeled. "So long, and thanks for all the fish!" [en.wikipedia.org] Side note: Why was this moved from General to General Members?

my goal for 99 agilidy
Looce replied to supercanon14's topic in Achievements (Drops, Bank Pictures and Levels)
Translation: Well, that's about it. Trying for 99 agility. Sentence [essence?] everybody hates it, and I like it, this should be odd, but I'm not going to neglect my other skills. I want 90 cb. -
Problem with profile edit... [Ugh, just lock!]

A "prng" (Pseudo Random Number Generator) is used to generate the image name for your avatar (2ac6c92blahblahblah.gif) and stuff like that. Perhaps it's also used to generate a sort of transaction ID for the image check mod, I don't know. Also, the error code says "MySQL server has gone away". The database was down temporarily at the time of your original post. -
Kay, so I changed my sig today, and looked for a post of my own to see the sig in context. Found this thread again, and will raise some points. First off, the thread has gone off-topic. It should be about unbanning the discussion of SwiftSwitch in Tip.it Forums, and it evolved into a discussion of third-party clients in and of themselves, and a possibility that Tip.it might integrate a third-party client into their website... To None2None: Don't drag RuneScript into this. Even though, by a coincidence, RuneScript started its existence in Chat-Addict, old Tip.it IRC, you should not create any pseudo-affiliation between us. And even if it was straightforward to take some of my Java RuneScript modules [forum.rscript.org] and integrate them into a third-party client, neither Cruiser, nor micksam7, spling or I, would approve of that use of the code. Though, I must say, with the proper permissions and a java.lang.SecurityManager [java.sun.com] installed, the code could not run amok and delete files, or keylog you etc. More technical information may be found here [java.sun.com] (see the descriptions for AWTPermission, FilePermission and AudioPermission), but I won't elaborate further in this post. Executive Summary of this post: RuneScript != Tip.it, RuneScript != Third party client :P P.-S.: Check this post [forum.tip.it] and post Agree/Disagree on what it says perhaps. It's my idea of what the rule should become on the Forums.

My totally devoid comment was just for the quote above it. Apologies for the interpretation issue. Yes, I acknowledge that this forum is for 12-16 year-olds, but the forum admins are the target of this thread ("admins, please allow Swift discussion for this, that and this other reason"), and they are older than that and can reason with logic. Your point is still very valid, though. [which is a bit of why I included Wiki links in my post, but that's another story] [side note: I'm personally 20 years old] With the advent of Web-based JavaScript world switchers, people are becoming increasingly wary of downloadable applications and Trojan horses etc.; I could foresee Swift's use decreasing in the future as Web-based switchers become more prominent. Your client would need support by some people, and you would need to be trusted; I could see this trend as a problem in the adoption of a downloadable switcher. Still, you might want to PM some Forum admins about it; they might show some support. But this is getting very off-topic. XD *runs away from the thread*

For the record, I'm agreeing with a subset of what's suggested in this post (i.e. to remove the ban on Swift discussion on these Forums), and that is: The discussion of the Swift client, and reasonable discussion about Swift's IRC network, without promoting them, should be allowed on the forums. Also, the lenience on screenshots made with Swift and clearly showing Swift's name in their title bar should remain: it should be made official that such screenshots are allowed, except where the rest of the post's contents have to do with promoting Swift via the screenshot. The intent is that merely seeing a screenshot showing Swift in the title bar, but whose subject is, for example, a level pic or PK loot pic, is not sufficient to promote Swift. Topics forbidden by my proposed amendment would include: [*:gz7en7m3]topics advocating a client over another (i.e. third-party client wars); [*:gz7en7m3]topics advocating the use of Swift via one of its distinctive features, when that feature has an equivalent available in most modern operating systems (e.g. the calculator). Topics allowed by my proposed amendment, regardless of what is denied, include: [*:gz7en7m3]topics questioning the third-party client rule on the Tip.it Forums when updates to Jagex's rules appear, or a new version of a client makes it 100% legal without question; [*:gz7en7m3]topics regarding third-party clients as a whole, without specifying one; [*:gz7en7m3]topics suggesting that a feature available in one or many third-party clients, when said feature does abide by Jagex's rules, be included in RuneScape. Such topics would be better suited for RuneScape's official forums, but are included in this list for completeness.

I did not call you names. The only instance of "dumb" I could find in my post is this: If you look closely, I was quoting you using it. I do not believe in name-calling for the sake of it. And if I look closely, I see that you asked for only one other client, and I did provide one with comparable features to Swift's: RuneHQ's world switcher. Please see the link I provided in my earlier reply. Also, pretending that someone knows about all world switchers in existence is foolish, and knowing them all should not be expected of neither you nor me. I did not expect this either. Personally, I did a Google search for "RuneScape world switcher" [www.google.ca] to find these three clients. They serve as examples since I cannot enumerate them all in a forum post. I'd like to add that it's the maker's responsibility to advertise a creation of theirs (or the users tell others about it), and as such, Zybez should be the only one promoting Swift or authorising the promotion of it. Tip.it would get in huge wars with Zybez over this, because linking to Swift on Tip.it might be enough for some users to think that there is an affiliation between them. There is not, and should never be. You seem inclined to bring me down just for the sake of it; can you reply rationally to this post?

I chose one link because all rainbow tables used by others have similar sizes and success rates anyways. The method is the same. I don't care about downed sites; they don't bring your argument down to my eyes. Theta [theta.in] by Antiaverage and contributors. Web-based. The RuneHQ world switcher [www.runehq.net] by Oblivion590 and DownStrike. Web-based, JavaScript. LeetScape [www.leetscape.com] by 3 Hit U. Web-based, JavaScript. I'd trust all of these world switchers not to contain any malicious code, and this could be proven by examining the JavaScript in the page before running it. [in any recent browser, disable JavaScript, launch the switcher and use View Source.] All clients must abide by Jagex's new Rule 7, although I don't know how they could enforce that. Maybe an HTTP referrer check, I don't know. As for your questions, see: Source: Forum thread [leetscape.com] Also, as far as I know, Strider had to modify Swift's built-in IRC client to remove the small crown icon displayed beside IRC channel operators (mode +o) and half-ops (mode +h) to abide by the new Rule 7, which could have been avoided had he not used these symbols. Finally, Totally devoid of argumentation except for name-calling. I was just using Wikipedia to define the words I used in line with the text itself.

[Note]about[/i] the quote, and to None2None] A process exists to "crack" passwords by storing a table of precalculated reversed pairs (hash -> text) in a file on disk, also known as the time-memory tradeoff [en.wikipedia.org] or rainbow tables [en.wikipedia.org]. These make cracking passwords faster by simply reading from the disk and checking whether the hash is found in a more efficient manner. The algorithm used is available on the Internet by doing a Google search for "time-memory tradeoff" [www.google.com]. Consider that, to crack these MD5 hashes, you download RainbowCrack. Consider that you order these rainbow tables [www.rainbowtables.net] for MD5 hashes and use them with it. Knowing how security-conscious Cruiser is, he will have chosen either of the following: [*:1brc5sll]a password longer than 12 characters with lowercase letters and digits; [*:1brc5sll]a password longer than 8 characters with lower/uppercase letters, digits and special characters. Both of these have prohibitive disk space requirements (in addition to not being available on the website above): [*:1brc5sll]a lower-digit table for 1-12 characters would take 7,004,700 GB, and would not even cover Cruiser's choices of more characters than 12; [*:1brc5sll]a lower-upper-digit-special table for 1-8 characters would take 1,516,127 GB, and would not even cover Cruiser's choices of more characters than 8. Simply, we don't have this much storage in a reasonable number of server-grade hard drives yet. You'd also be wasting your time brute-forcing that hash. And another person would refute you and say SS is not the best, and so-and-so third-party client is. Then you'd repeat your argument over and over, making it an argumentum ad infinitum [en.wikipedia.org], a logical fallacy. Seriously, it is all a matter of preference, and each user is a fervent of one client in disfavor of another. Support one, and everyone will want links to their own favorite clients. There is no single client link that will please everyone. Even if other Swift users came into this topic and supported your argument, None2None, this would still be a logical fallacy: the bandwagon argument [en.wikipedia.org], "everyone is doing it, therefore it must be right; everyone is using it, therefore it must be the best." So there. [edits: Fixed various typos, wording and bad forum markup]

I get highlighted once in a while with script help requests. I want to see these highlights. I have a script to single out the messages destined to me, and I read them the next day. Something like this, taken from another network: If the highlight was important, I'll answer to them via MemoServ, or directly via a counter-highlight (AaF! ) when I get back. Sure, it's easy to rejoin #runescape, but I'd like not to have to. If I had to rejoin every channel I join daily, I'd spend lots of time just issuing /join commands. I have a !w## script that people use to get direct links to RuneScape game worlds. !kb to get a direct link to the knowledge base. I am a half-op in #help, and kick people who misbehave there after being banned from #runescape. I am a RuneScript admin, and often one to turn to when other admins are not there and a question/bug/etc. concerning RuneScript arises. Nazgul and others ask me specifically for scripting help in mIRC; when I'm not Looce-Away, I'm almost always available. And now can you say I do nothing constructive when idling? This post originates from a lurker account that I still post on once in a while. I quit the Tip.it Forums for the most part, though.

Slayer500's Fall 2006 Giveaway (5M + in prizes)

If it is to bad I would just set-up a bit of CSS to block the colour. Tried /ignore and it failed You'd have to enable a specific client option, not available in the Java applet though. In mIRC, you can go to Tools/Options, IRC > Messages, and check Bold, Underline, Color and Reverse in the 'Strip codes from incoming messages' group. Also, /ignore is present on most IRC clients; if it is not, your client sucks and you should get another. /whois UserNick /ignore *!*@hostname-of.user.here.com RuneScript now does not respond to public @commands and !level cooking 4. Do not talk without knowing what you talk about.

In this update Jagex made quite a lot of optimisations, including separating music from the gameplay using a Thread (Which is why they can call up multiprocessing on dual-CPU computers). I would assume they use smaller and faster data structures to hold the display elements that you see, too. And many other small improvements under the hood. What you see from this update, though, is that the game runs more smoothly. Which I like! :D And also that we have sound in Firefox, and that setting the music volume in RuneScape doesn't set my global MIDI volume to 100% (i.e. 12x louder than I have it normally). Having some dumb music blare in your ears until you can login is not fun... after that, your account's preferences load and your music volume goes to what you set in RuneScape.

< > ^ / and some other characters were blocked because they are used in HTML and URL's and whatnot (well, except the ^) I expect those to be blocked in some time from now. Again, except the ^. " :\ ", an emoticon, was blocked at some time too when there was a specific word before it (I can only suppose that was to avoid hackers telling people to run programs on "C:\Windows" or something.) But yeah, I expect many improvements to the current chat system. :D
