  1. Not a bad idea to have a separate topic for this, honestly, so that folks who don't frequent the 200m topic can find their way into the discussion. The idea is that Jagex is adding official support for the existing community varient of DIY; they're just renaming it "Ironman." They aren't creating a new hard game-mode from scratch. The widely-accepted DIY rules say nothing about MTK or fiddling with monster drops; it'd actually be impossible to obtain most high-end equipment if you couldn't get it from monster drops and also couldn't buy it from players! And MTK is an excellent source of resources for DIY players that doesn't involve interacting with other players, so there's no reason to exclude that for DIY players. I see no reason to alter the drops Ironman characters get from monsters or to bar MTK.
  2. Yeah right... i mean there are shattered heart rocks, expert skill cape shards and now golden elf rocks. I feel sorry for players who will be walking freshly into these pieces of content. Eh, not when we have a bag to store the rocks, and probably a bag for the elf rocks, and hopefully a bag for the cape shards. I feel worse for the folks who have been doing each of those one part at a time than I do for the folks who can collect all three at once. Now there's a shitty bug. Did you report that? I highly doubt it was intentional.
  3. Eh, I'd still recommend reading over a full guide before doing Kiln, especially as to how exactly the Dills work (it doesn't matter how much damage you'd do while breaking through their armor, it just matters how many times you hit them - each hit has a chance to crack the armor. So, Fury is your friend!) and what order you should kill things in. But yeah, the safe spotting, knowing where stuff spawns, and invulnerability crystals for Jad make it pretty easy.
  4. Honestly, it might take two hours to do at most, since you already have the skills at 99 for the comp cape. It'd be a pretty minor addition, especially for those who are still working towards comp.
  5. For what it's worth, it's waaay easier now than it was when I first did it. And, as long as you aren't wearing terrible armor, it takes more than one slip to die at Jad. Grab a sign of life for your pocket slot and one or two portents of restoration, use ancients (ice and blood spells) and ganodermic or sea singer and an aura or two of your choice, and make liberal use of prayers and abilities to conserve supplies on your way there (Sacrifice, Guthix's Blessing, Regeneration, Soul Split - these all save you food. Just don't try to Soul Split while fighting Jad, heh.) If you view it less as "my reward is a fire cape which is pretty meh" and more as "my reward is access to the Fight Kiln to get the best capes in the game", it's definitely better. (Fight Kiln is ezpz in comparison, seriously. You get to heal back to full between each wave thanks to safespots and Regeneration, you know where everything spawns, and you have the crystal buffs for the hard waves.) All that being said, yeah, it's a pretty big time sink if you get to Jad and can't learn fast enough to keep up, and that's why I want to see Jad in any practice mode that gets released. Har-Aken I'd include just because there's no reason to include one and not the other, but honestly, Har-Aken is far, far, easier.
  6. I can see your reasoning, but I didn't feel like Jad was "an amazing boss to overcome." When I beat him for the first time, I mostly was just pissed that I had spent so much time overcoming such a stupid obstacle. If a practice mode could help to spare someone else that same feeling, I'm all for it. The fear of failure would still be present - even if you can beat him 100 out of 100 times in practice mode, you still have to do it again, for real this time, and with less supplies. There would definitely still be pressure. Practicing would just let you not get killed solely because you didn't know what that animation meant, or you weren't comfortable with prayer switches yet, or you weren't quite sure how the healers worked. In short, it cuts out much of the bullshit that made me feel like crap when I was trying for my first fire cape. I don't think that's a bad thing to get rid of.
  7. If you don't use Soul Split that much, and you mostly use Magic, then yeah, there's not much reason to switch from arcane stream/dragonrider to amulet of souls. The repair costs a fair bit.
  8. If you're using Soul Split (or Smite) against another player, it drains their prayer points faster now, I believe. The rate of your pp drain while using those prayers is unchanged.
  9. I think I meant to come across more as it's not appropriate to ask them in game whether they'd like to marry the prince or princess directly for example, not that exposing them to it was inappropriate. Like people shouldn't be forced to give that kind of information to continue a quest whatever their age Ehh... If the players understood the separation between the player and their character/avatar/whatever, then it's fine; you're not telling your sexuality, just your avatars, which may be different than yours. You wouldn't even be giving your sexuality, just choosing who to go with in this case, and that decision could be influenced by a number of things apart from gender and sexuality. But that's definitely more borderline. That line of reasoning does make more sense than what I thought you (and others) were saying; thanks for clarifying. So, one of the following is true: That quoted in-game PM is youYour listed RSN is false and you were lying when you typed what I quotedYour account has been compromised (highly unlikely)That picture was photoshopped (also highly unlikely)As I said, your credibility is getting pretty stretched here, mate (and that has nothing to do with your sexuality).
  10. but if it was put into the game then it would be good. No. If it were put into the game, it would cause a lot of controversy for almost zero benefit, and thus it would be a net negative. It's not worth whatever little dev time it would take to code, not to mention how many folks would react. Also, dude, there's an edit button on your posts; use that instead of posting multiple times in a row. Also also: Either that quoted in-game PM is you, or your listed RSN is false, or your account has been compromised (highly unlikely). Your credibility is getting pretty stretched here, mate (and that has nothing to do with your sexuality).
  11. On the subject of this not being appropriate for a kid's game: I disagree. We involve heterosexual romance in kids media alllllll the time; changing the genders of the people involved doesn't suddenly make it inappropriate for kids. I still totally think OP's suggestions are unnecessary for Runescape; I just have to disagree with that particular line of reasoning against it.
  12. You can. You need 99 in a skill to get a shard for that skill; the other skills for that cape have no impact on it. You do need all the shards in a given category to get an expert cape, ofc.
  13. I don't think the community of Runescape or Tip.It, or the game itself, are not accepting of non-heterosexual or non-binary-gendered individuals. I think you're trying to fix something that isn't broken here, and people are responding as they are not because they aren't accepting of your sexuality, but because they recognize this is something which doesn't need to be fixed. I hope you can realize that not agreeing with your proposed changes to the game is not the same as being intolerant or bigoted when it comes to the broader subjects of sexuality and gender identification. I am glad to hear you've found a group you feel comfortable with!
  14. I got one skiller outfit piece (First Age amulet); still need First Age ring, Botanist gloves, and Sous Chef boots.
  15. As a gay man... no. I see where you're trying to go with this, but I think it's completely unnecessary. The quest tweaks would be nice, but they aren't needed, and the other things you suggest, I am absolutely not interested in. If I want to go to Pride, I'll go to Pride, not play Runescape.
  16. Another system update; they're probably nerfing the droprate.
  17. I would guess that anything which can give Shattered Heart rocks can also give Expert Cape shards, but that's just a guess. I'm assuming that the Hydrix jewelry will just lose charge and not crumble to dust now? There's still the possibility that we have to use an onyx on it before it hits 0% or lose it entirely, but that'd be 1. obnoxious and 2. completely different from every other degrade mechanic in the game. I'm curious what formula Vecna uses to boost now; at 98 Magic I get a 11 level boost. I like that they finally addressed the Wealth Evaluator issues; sounds like turning off the untradable bit should make it pretty accurate now. I'm actually tempted to buy one.
  18. If you're wondering what equipment to focus on next, take a look at my spreadsheets (links in my sig); I maintain those for just such questions. Ports takes more active time out of your day in the beginning than it does in the end, because voyage times increase. If you can spend the first week checking your ships about as soon as they come back in, you can probably get something useful out of it within a month. It's also a nice daily thing to progress in, if you're wanting something to keep you coming back to the game regularly, and after the first bits it really doesn't take much time out of your day. Oh, and regarding "style bonus"... you could be referring to a couple of different things. If the armor you're wearing doesn't match the weapon you're using, you'll have much lower accuracy with that weapon. (I think the only pieces that matter for this are head/torso/legs, but I'm not sure that's still true.)Ranged armor has more armor against magic enemies and less against melee enemies, etc. etc. around the triangle.Enemies are weak to one of the styles (magic/melee/ranged), and especially weak to one type of weapons within that style (like, say, Fire spells for magic, Bolts for ranged, or Stabbing weapons for melee). The broad style weakness and the specific type weakness both affect accuracy, not damage. Unless you're doing the high tier bosses, the specific type weakness doesn't matter that much, as long as you're matching the general style weakness of melee/mage/range, and the lower level the enemy, the less that broad weakness matters as well. The bonuses you get from accessories (rings/necklaces/amulets/capes, mostly) increase your damage. So an amulet of glory boosts your damage for all three combat styles, while an archer's ring only boosts ranged. This is a somewhat recent change, but it basically switched things back to the old "Strength" bonuses of pre-EoC instead of the crit bonuses that EoC brought.
  19. Do keep in mind that it'll likely take at least a month before you have the trade goods and scrolls to actually get any rewards, so while Runecrafting is nice in that it gives an adventurer, trade goods, and lets you use those trade goods all in one, you'll have time to train other skills up for one of the other combinations anyway if you like. I definitely do agree that if you've no preference on which skills to train, Runecrafting is the best one to start with. That being said, Prayer and Herblore have excellent uses outside of ports; since they also give access to Ports, you might want to prioritize those. I think I did Prayer first, Runecrafting second, and Herblore third, because I wanted Prayer and Herb for combat stuff as well. Pretty sure Thieving was my last because I hate training it. Which adventurer you have really won't matter for quite some time; it takes a while to get through the first few areas and build up ships and crew before you can really focus on the trade goods and scrolls at all. (That being said, if you get scroll missions early on, do them! Each time you gain access to a new area, the length of scroll voyages increases, so the more you can get early on, the less 15-hr voyages you'll have to do at the end, though you do have to weigh success percentages against that.)
  20. I think Jad and Har-Aken should definitely be included (it sucks to get to the end only to find that you're terrible at prayer switching, says the man who took a dozen tries to kill pre-EoC Jad). The obvious ones are KK/Vorago/RotS/Araxxi (perhaps the whole thing instead of just the last phase?). Nex and QBD could benefit as well, since they also operate on phases which require a certain amount of learning; reading/watching a guide only helps with that so much (says the man who took five tries to kill QBD). I'm not sure of any other bosses that would majorly benefit from having a practice mode; including the rest wouldn't be a bad thing, but the above are going to be the main ones that mode will be used for. I think that consumable supplies should be provided but not equipment, and you shouldn't earn XP from the fight. As Steph said, it's less about the potential for abuse, and more because "practice" shouldn't give any benefit other than that practice. I also don't think a boss practice mode should provide an opportunity to test out higher level equipment that you don't actually own; that's just unnecessary. Adding it to Dom Tower would be cool.
  21. I'll save mine to use on Sundays for skill outfits... I only need a handful of pieces (cooking gloves & herblore gloves, two pieces of prayer but I forget which ones). If I get those... eh, I dunno. I'll probably use em on darts and silverhawk feathers. Also, can a mod edit the changes from here into the first post? Edit: Thanks Lio!
  22. I very much like the herblore changes; the original potion list was decent for brainstorming, but it definitely needed cleaning up before implementation. Also: YES THANK YOU SO MUCH AHHHHH
  23. On crafting: I remember Oddish saying doing Temple Trekking and taking silver bars as your rewards was a solid way of training crafting on a diy.
  24. Eh, it's not any less integrity than what we have now. Right now we even just take folks word that they're really DIYing; this at least enforces some aspects of it, even if not others. I agree it'd be better if TH was banned on Ironman, but it's not any worse than things are now. Edit: I quite agree.
  25. It was in a jmod forum post somewhere; forget where. Certain rewards are removed from the list of possibilities can only be cashed out (resources and lucky equipment, mainly, IIRC), lamps give half the XP, and while stars give the same amount of bonus XP, bonus XP is used at 25% the speed of the normal game (so, normally if you have 100 bonus XP and gain 100 XP, you consume all that bonus XP to gain a total of 200 XP; on ironman mode, you'd consume 25 bonus XP to gain a total of 125 XP). Edit: Found it.
